READ THE (temp)WIKI! & help by contributing:
https://igwiki.lyci.de/wiki/Home_server

/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. Know all about NAS? Learn virtualization. Spun up some VMs? Learn about networking by standing up a OPNsense/PFsense box and configuring some VLANs. There's always more to learn and chances to grow. Think you’re god-tier already? Setup OpenStack and report back.

>What software should I run?
Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavor of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

>Why should I have a home server?
De-botnet your life. Learn something new. Serving applications to yourself, your family, and your frens feels good. Put your tech skills to good use for yourself and those close to you. Store their data with proper availability redundancy and backups and serve it back to them with a /comfy/ easy to use interface.

Kanidm is likely a better fit if you want to delegate authentication to another service (with single sign-on as an added bonus). Piss easy to set up; single binary with no external service dependencies, can be deployed in a container also. Easiest solution of all is still just tailscale with headscale though, but if you really wanna avoid VPNs, OpenID Connect with kanidm is probably the simplest you'll get. Really recommend reading their documentation about what they do and can do for you.

How many machines before I should look into using something like ansible? I've got 5 vm's plus a backup server.
>>
>>107708562
I've only got 2 VMs, but I use ansible for my server and also both my desktops because I just like automating stuff. I think it's a good skill to have, and it's just fun. I recommend giving it a go, see if you like it

language is the precursor to developing intelligence. This has been theorized for almost a century. I published a research study on this a decade ago.

Long story short - with basic language you can convey information, which leads to understanding and gives meaning to specific things. This information can then be passed down and it naturally evolves. As language evolves, conveying information becomes more complex and thus intelligence grows alongside it. Its a symbiotic relationship between the two, but language comes before intelligence.

Think of it like this - Cavemen ooga booga their words, they are not developed. As soon as languages evolve, intelligence evolves along with it. Writing becomes invented and so on and so forth.

Look at the other intelligent species on the planet for reference - Corvids have a language and are able to pass down information to each generation. As such they have the intelligence of a 7 year old human. Dolphins are in a similar position. Cats and dogs and other species that have some vague basic understanding of what our words mean are also generally more intelligent and are capable of doing more complex tasks

The invaders have infested and destroyed every part of the internet, and almost every part of human civilization itself. That particular plan uses AT&T now. Older mainstream phones look like they work. Maybe more unusual phones would work on an MVNO. Would use the IMEI checker regardless.

Alright well since firefox is doubling down on implementing ai in their browser and theyre completely ignoring their user base professing how they dont want it. Which is the better fork of firefox to flee to? Im considering waterfox or librewolf since both are likely not to implement the new aislop bloat. Recently heard about this floorp browser too but its new to me and idk anything about it. Plus the name sounds gay as fuck which is the only reason im suspicious of it, the name alone already sounds like its begging to be abandoned but thats just my surface level take

Neither do all these Firefox "forks" you absolute fucking moron. Librewolf, Zen, Waterfox and all these other retarded "forks" just preconfigure Firefox for you using Firefox policies and user.js files. None of these "forks" are doing any coding related stuff. At least get your facts correct.

They shouldn't even be called "forks" at all. They are flavours. Distributions of Firefox. Not forks. If Firefox rolled over and died tomorrow, none of these "forks" would be able to do shit.

If you use the GNU Image Manipulation Program, there is something wrong with you mentally.

It is the only thing preventing me from using a Linux-based OS on a permanent basis. I need Photoshop to work and WINE is buggy as shit. The GIMP is a shit alternative.

Everyone is shitting on the OP but that is genuinely mindblowing to me. Every one of those normal powerbanks is also just those vape batteries soldered together inside, with the electronics to make it work. But having the batteries be removable, and making the device function as a battery charger too? ALL powerbanks should have been like this.
>>
>>107707148
Everything you read about new battery tech is bullshit until someone offers it at scale. Lithium batteries have been 'the future' since at least the 60s. The gap between what you can make in a lab and what you can mass produce is gigantic.

>>107709075
letting just anyone work with lithium batts is dangerous. A shitty contact can cause unbalanced tanks, some retard may use a soldering pen instead of a spot welder, etc.
If you know your shit you can just buy a cell holder frame, BMS and print your own casing to make your cell replaceable power bank.
Also those disposable vapes fucking piss me off, such waste. Sometimes I think technology got too cheap and accessible for its own good.
