It actually looks good on the modern iphones. But Its a load of bloat for older phones and looks terrible on mac. I still prefer the older functional and compact design.

I have a cabin in the woods and would like to know when a new device enters the area. What would be a practical way to detect cell phones and log activity?
>>107916321>cabin in the woodsWith this premise we know the highest frequencies will not be used since they have a far shorter range (a few 100 m). Monitoring sub-GHz frequencies will be sufficient. Bandplans are public information.

>>107927323Right. This was a land rush because all the tech companies are very familiar with the first-mover effect and how powerful it is. Microsoft has bungled so many things, they REALLY didn't want to fuck it up this time. So they spent outrageously. And it's not paying off. Google was a bit more circumspect and built out in ways that complemented what they already have. OpenAI is just going to fold in a year or two because they're being run by a scam artist. Some of the better code tools will probably survive and get big. But these trillions of spend are going to evaporate.

Chat rooms used to be so common in the 90s and early 2000s. What happened to them?
>>107919545Discord is IRC for incels. Also embedded images
I (2001 zoomer) used to be addicted to Xat chatrooms, you know the ones you could embed into websites? I would talk with people on there for hours, even convinced my dad once to get me a $20 gift card to buy some bullshit emoticons or whatever on it. I miss when that was popular, it was a lot of fun. But now every website has a discord so you can't join those chat rooms. Despite being more fragmented the internet felt more social back then (the 2000s). I fear we'll never go back, at least not on the clearnet

Is the world ready for an entire generation of software engineers who don't know how to engineer software?
What's the problem here? If they can understand and fix code by someone else they are above 90% people in this industry
>>107924951>Engineering is all about following some very strict rules and constraints, you are not an engineer and you don't understand what engineers do. STFU.

>>107927129How can these tards understand code if they're not even learning to code in the first place? They are learning to put a bunch of shit into a prompt and crossing their fingers that AI can figure it all out for them. They don't realize they are making themselves irrelevant. It's really sad. Ie. for what the fuck does a manager need some tard to enter prompts into AI for the answer if the manager can just do that himself? Idiots.

Does anyone else hate modern YouTube? I miss the times when the YouTube homepage wasn't a fucking feed but just the latest videos from your subscriptions. While the "Browse" button ('member that?) at the top would take you to the page with all the viral videos from across the world. But now, being on YouTube feels like you're hooked onto some kind of drug, because the algorithm tracks your viewing habits and patterns and fills your feed with videos that will keep you endlessly watching one video after another, and by the end of the day you feel like your brain literally rotted a bit from mindlessly consooming bullshit content you didn't need or ask for.Not to mention, they way YouTube videos themselves are produced these days seems like they're specifically designed to induce anxiety and break your mind from over-stimulation.

What alternatives are there to YouTube?
Why does the internet seem to get "emptier" by the day? I mean most places seem like a ghost town with barely any activity. It almost seems like people just disappeared, which shouldn't be possible. This isn't a schizo post either, just a genuine observation. What is causing the apparent slowdown of all online activity? Where are all the people going? Are people just slowly disconnecting from the online space and doing something else with their lives? Was there a massive amount of bot activity everywhere that has suddenly stopped over the last couple of years, which makes the internet seem slower than it used to be?The quality of the interactions online has also seen a massive drop. On /g/ 10 years ago during the last ram price spike you had genuinely good discussions and insightful posts about the situation. Now it's just a bunch of pepe pictures with "Lmao I got mine" and almost no genuine insight such as calculating the die-sizes between fabs and calculating output and decrease in supply from HBM to calculate when the supply shock should be over. This was just a random example but even hackernews is slowly dying out.A couple of potential factors that I can think of>Everyone primarily interacts through places like discord which isn't on the public web anymore>Since 2022 LLM breakthrough most people interact with their LLM instead of with other humans online anymore>Economic situation is so bad that people are too busy with work to use the internet anymore>Internet quality has dropped so much that there is a downward spiral of quality users leaving the internet, which lowers quality, which causes more to leave.I'm guessing it's the last mentioned option because I am also considering leaving this place (not 4chan, the entire internet) as it's not even worth visiting these places anymore.
>>107927177how come the 4chan source leak from a while back didn't show that?

>>107925676GPL zealots hate anyone that doesn't use their license. They also "steal" code from BSD projects since if you re-license to GPL to appease them typically they refuse to re-license in return if they make changes to their fork. It's a big stupid gay divide and conquer tactic from both sides to ensure people that develop software for free are constantly in-fighting because they're split into two different camps. Trillions of hours of time have been wasted over the years simply because a sperg insists that you use his sperg license so you have to re-implement something by coding it from scratch instead of using an existing piece of code. Both sides have their idols promoting their preferred license and everything. You can dual-license which means licensing under both at the same time to avoid the issue. But GPL zealots claim this isn't good for <reasons>. Their whole argument is some large company will take the code and not give back any changes they might have made. In reality, large companies steal GPL'd code all of the time without crediting them (closed source software) or they take over GPL licensed projects by paying people to work on any code they want to use. Thus ensuring the entire project goes to shit because most FOSS developers don't really care about ethics and only want more of the almighty dollar. You shouldn't concern yourself with it. Ignore licenses and pirate everything. Treat data like speech.
