Pros:>Strong sandboxing/isolation improves security.>Widely supported across major distros (especially Fedora, GNOME-based distros).>Uses Portals apps can request access to files, devices, etc. in a controlled way.>Good integration with desktop environments.>Flathub is a central, well-maintained app store with lots of apps.>Auto-updates supported.Cons:>Flatseal has the potential to change the permissions of other flatpaks at will. Essentially, a flatpak with the ability to change the permissions of other flatpaks. >>106493957I'm sorry but I don't understand. Are you saying programs can go outside of the sandboxed folders?Linux malware does exist but its pretty rare considering 95% of people downloading from torrents or elsewhere will be using windows 10.
>>106493984I mean, if we assume there is some sort of Linux-specific code in the exe that specifically targets wine / Linux and that can access the Linux file system and that can access any file or folder Heroic has access to, then if Heroic has access to bashrc or other files that are used to run commands outside the sandbox, the malware could easily add malicious code there.
>>106494018Pretty sure flatpak apps can't access outside of .var unless you give them access. Thats why Flatpak Firefox cant open local files without first copying them to a directory it has permission to access
>>106494018It has access to these folders. Dunno if that would be bad
>>106494039Devs can give apps access to anything they want by default. >>106494049What does it say above "other files"? If it doesn't enable filesystem=host or filesystem=home enabled, it shouldn't be able to do that specific thing I mentioned. However, there might be other attack vectors. For example, since in your image it seems to have access to .local/share/applications, it might be able to override one of your system desktop files with a desktop file with a malicious command.

Is anyone here fucking around with Meshtastic or some similar LoRa based communication thing?I've come across Meshtastic today, fell into a bit of a rabbit hole and now I kind of want to get some aliexpress transceiver if only to play with it for a bit.Naturally I'm imagining situations where it could be very useful, but any connection between the truth and the justifications I come up with for a new toy is entirely coincidental.Do you regularly talk to anyone with it?Did you ever make use of it in a situation where a cellular network isn't available?
>>106493663Sorry, 433 MHz. I'm a little drunk.
>>106492788Texting over radio signals seems cool but I don't have a usecase for it. I do offroading with friends and talking over radio is already established and much easier to do while driving.Maybe if we could send images too people would want to use it. I read meshcore is seeing a lot more progress because meshtastic devs are digging in their heels on new features, not sure how accurate that is but something to consider.>>106493663>meshmap.netYeah I'm in a deadzone, nothing inside of 10 miles from me. I'd have to travel to talk to people or convince my group to use this instead of normal radio.
>>106493728In fairness, this map only shows people who've recently connected over MQTT. There very well could be people around you who just aren't connected to the main MQTT mesh. Either that, or a lot of people don't choose to share their locations, for obvious reasons. I'd say it's worth a shot nonetheless, I'd just use a cheaper bit of hardware like a Heltec V3.
>>106493796>this map only shows people who've recently connectedThat's a good point I didn't consider. One of my offroad friends birthday is coming up, I think I'll get a couple heltec v3s and gift him one.I just thought of a usecase for texting over radio, one of the guys ate shit on a dirtbike going out alone and got the wind knocked out of him. Couldn't call in for help for like 15 minutes and by the time we got there he was mostly recovered and could ride back himself. I think some kind of backup SOS with meshtastic would be good since it transmits location data too and we could hoist up a tall antenna at the basecamp for wide coverage.

>>106490828>Just let the marketing team tell all the users how to think. You're fucking retarded. The HDD user interface in old-windows used to tell you tracks and sector counts as well as data locations. You could also configure the segment sizes. You could look at this if you wanted to and was a great way to teach kids how a hard drive worked. You're advocating for software being dumbed down to the lowest common denominator so the vendors can lie to consumers more easily and the system back end is further removed from the users ability to monitor and configure it.As it stands I have to download a third party app to do what used to be built into the system and then I have to deal with retards like you who don't know how an SSD stores data or why that even matters.

What with the government trying to force age verification?
I'm game for verifying my age if it means that the sort of content that being a verified adult remains freely available. The problem I have is that, in spite of proving I'm over 18, there seems to be a push via backdoor channels to censor and deplatform all the adult content I'd want to consume as an adult.

>>106493178>I think what anon is saying is that the "we want to protect the kids" thing is a false motivation. Yes, some politicians don't care about children and are doing these things for many reasons, I stated a few.>it's just what they use to sell the idea to the public>Honestly, anon, if you actually believe these justifications at face value, then you are kind of retarded. Not all politicians have a sinister ulterior motive. I understand disliking authority and government, but it's actually naive to think they never have your interests at heart. Many politicians are simply too stupid to think of the ramifications of their actions, it's why they constantly propose solutions that are technically infeasible/impossible and make no sense. Look at the state of governments around the world, don't you understand how STUPID these people are? Many of them genuinely believe in what they say.>"Think of the kids" was never once the actual reason behind any of these policies.I can't state conclusively that you are wrong because I'm ignorant, but it's highly unlikely that you are right.
