Do any of you know perl, and know it by heart?
Supposedly PHP i supposed to be for noobs and perl is the patricians choice, but I don't know how many people even still know perl.

why are so many programming "help" groups like this? like, somebody will specifically opt into helping people, and then get frustrated when they dont do exactly what they expect. it constantly feels like im testing everyone's patience whenever i ask for help and its even harder trying to just learn everything myself, especially considering all the weird semantic differences in both the language itself and guides.

like i can imagine a full script in my head but i wouldnt know how to translate it into the language im currently using. and on the offchance that i *do* get the help needed, usually its just "oh just use the blah function", so its not like i just Dont Know How To Code or anything i just dont know the shit thats specific to the engine, and its not like i can just look it up in a glossary or something because the words can be totally different from language to language, like how "object" in one language can be "entity" in another, and object in *that* language refers to an object in an array or something, so theres just a huge language gap that i cant really cross without the help of others, which sucks because working with others sucks

>>
Whether from the perspective of a frustrated noob like OP or some angry old nigger like >>107654160, the entire interaction called "help" appears to be a massive waste of time. I certainly don't bother with it anymore. If it's not the sort of thing I can teach myself, it's not worth bothering with
>>
>>107640271
if you were smart enough to figure out things on your own then you wouldnt be asking for help
ergo listen to what you're told instead of being """"creative"""""
>>
>>107654160
I ask that bc I want to learn the language / system and got stuck without a clue on how to proceed, and because I don't want my homework done for me. I only learn by really grokking the most retarded-seeming details of the language, not by adopting "design patterns" or "best practices", which is purely about aesthetics and preventing feuds between codemonkeys.

The core of this infrastructure is already operating at scale on problems such as code understanding.”

They effectively do the same thing. Check for something and abort current operation if a condition is not met. Whenever that is done via aborting the process, killing thread, unwinding stack or whatever else is configurable doesn't really change the point of that function.

Is the nvidia driver dx12 bug ever going to be fixed? You'd think with the growth in linux users they'd prioritize it a little more. I switched earlier this year to linux, I wouldn't be using nvidia if I had planned to use it before building my pc, but it is just retarded that half the games I want to play perform like shit because one of the richest companies ever wont bother fixing it.

do you mean 1TB?
it's done "in hardware", but you shouldn't trust that shit.
an analogy: in some cases software sends commands to simply "delete" encryption keys from SSDs, but there is research that shows that "hardware encrypted" data can be recovered, and keys are reused or insecure keys are used once and once again.
just run dban or
dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/your-ssd

Why are ""people"" (gamers) still so anti-VA? Modern VA panels have absurdly fast response times on par with IPS (faster actually except for black to black). On the plus side you get the blackest blacks, whitest whites and no backglow messing up everything.

I understand OLED is superior to both and TN is the competitive choice but it's weird seeing how many people still tell each other to steer clear of VA when your average $200 VA panel is almost certainly better than a $200 IPS one.

Some of the more recent IPS displays I've gotten have somehow made the glow much less noticeable. It's still there, but not as obvious as the distractingly uneven glow I got on a display from around 2015.

I actually kind of like the glass stuff. I don't like how buttons have less useful area and so iPhones don't get five or six buttons at the bottom of the phone anymore, but the readability hits aren't as bad as I thought because I mostly know what buttons' labels say anyway, so I don't really need to read the button label if there's something gnarly underneath it.
I'm actually coming around to the opinion that Alan Dye's Liquid Glass thing is overhated. It deserves to be hated, but not _quite_ as much as it's hated.

Python, one of the very few modern & popular programming languages not owned by big tech, is now begging hard for money at python.org (picrel), Wikipedia style.

This comes after the PSF rejected an US government grant because the PSF can't stop shilling for DEI: https://developers.slashdot.org/story/25/10/28/211237/python-foundation-rejects-government-grant-over-dei-restrictions
The same PSF then reported a surge of new donators following the above rejection: https://developers.slashdot.org/story/25/11/09/2017240/python-foundation-donations-surge-after-rejecting-grant---but-sponsorships-still-needed
Yet, they are now begging for money, using a big, intrusive and cringe banner at python.org, kek.

This is what your donated money is used for: https://www.python.org/psf/grants
>Conferences (e.g. PyCon Italia)
>Event site subscriptions (Meetup.com) (e.g. London Django Meetup)
>Django Girls Workshops (e.g. Django Girls Busan Workshop)
>PyLadies Workshops (e.g. All Day PyLadies Workshop)

These faggots have a whole page dedicated to their DEI philosophy: https://www.python.org/community/diversity
Their Libera Chat #python IRC channel is filled to the brim with trannies (they/them and she/her pronouns set as their IRC name).

I have always downloaded music, movies and tv-series and saved them on HDD's.
But i also ripped my CD collection back in the early 2000's
Music is strictly kept in .mp3. If possible i go for 320kbps.
Regarding music files, i haven't downloaded for the last 20years or so. I currently have like 120 GB of music.
Mostly stuff i listened to in the nineties and eighties.

TV series are strictly kept in .mkv format and i go for 1080p. If not available, i chose 720p or SD quality if it's a real classic worth keeping.
I am currently on about 160 TB of tv-series. So it's a well sorted collection.

I never had any streaming subs in my life. The only thing i have (but lost the login credentials to) is a lifetime premium account for Spotify, since i partook in their beta programme, but never used it after the beta phase were closed and Spotify hit the market.
