But what can you do with vr? It's pretty useless.
>>
>>107740527
Nobody is willing to pay that much for a device that isn't even sure if it wants to be a vr headset or an ar headset.
Also no games.
>>
>>107740527
even if it didn't have all the weaknesses that it has, I'm not sure what value proposition is.
the 3d effect seems like a gimmick that gets old quickly.
>>
>>107745471

You seriously think that the reason why 3D never took off is because the glasses?
3D never takes off because it's a fundamentally shit idea that only existed as a gimmick from day one. It does nothing to enhance movie watching experience, on the contrary it only hurts it.
It makes movies feel like ass and any movies specifically tailored for 3D, use shots that are blatantly there just to appeal to the 3D factor.

VR is an entirely different subject, even when very limited it's still immersive. It will absolutely get more adoption once the hardware is good enough and when the prices come down considerably.
There was no chance in hell for VR to take off when it was basically in alpha and that was the biggest issue.
You buy the goggles that are bulky as fuck for couple of grand.
Then you realize the tracking is shit and you need to buy additional lighthouses which are extra grand at least.
Then you realize you want a full body tracking and need to buy the trackers and it's another grand. Oh hey you want eye tracking? That's even more money spent.
Soon you'll have spent like 5k on the damn thing and you can't even wear it for that long, because you're going to be sweating like crazy and it's uncomfortable.
Oh yeah and you need America tier home space for the fucker to begin with, meaning you can't even use it in most European homes unless it's in the fucking living room.
So far it's been a niche at best due to a lot of limitations.

Do you remember this technology news site? It was recently sold to an AI slop generator. Martin, the author of ghacks, said he'll post on chipp.in now. It's still sad. ghacks was my main tech news site in like 2010, and now it's over.

Post source you nig

I just bought a 32Gib 512nvme i7-9850H quadro t1000 with a 4k panel for $400 on eBay (and uncle sam fucked me for 40 in taxes and 20 in shipping)--and I am regretting it and wish I bought the cheaper $330 1080p 48gib option but bought this one because I thought that the 4k panel might be good since 1080p is a bit bad for split screen latex but am now regretting it since it will
- Drain battery faster (might take up 20% extra)
- Be a pain to use because I will be forced to set it to 200% scaling for a good experience with my external 1080p monitors (probably, I have never used 4k but xorg will likely strangle me too)
- Cost more
- Doesn't have as much ram
- At 15.6" and normal sitting, I probably won't ever notice

I don't think it has been shipped yet but also don't want to try to return it since that might make me an asshole...I will have to go check if the seller even accepts returns...

I am really crying over this...why is life so hard?

I didn't get that one because of a shipping problem but the taxes I paid would have made it a loss if I would have tried to resell it on eBay, and to a lesser extent, the shipping, but somehow it wasn't that much either.

In paleo-conservative countries the rule is any sexual activity outside of life long marriage is evil and immoral. They hold zero tolerance for sex outside of wedlock. Though the AoC for them historically is 2 to 4 years lower. In feminist countries today (such as the US) any sexual activity a day below 18 is evil and immoral and enforced by laws of government.

Both paleo conservatives and feminist claim certain sexual behavior is evil gross and immoral and they respond with strong emotional engagement when their values are violated. But they differ on what triggers it. I believe these morals go deeper then cultural norms. They reflect evolved instincts to ensure early human tribes had social cohesion. For cavemen 19,000 years ago having a tribe not fighting over mates and knowing who's kid belongs to who is far more likely to survive then tribes that didn't know whos parents the kids belonged to and bashed each other with clubs over who gets to mate with the women of the tribe.

All those morals people have. Rather it be life long monogamy, opposition to gay marriage, and 18 or wood chipper are just the result of prehistoric pressures put on ancestral humans. The strongest moral values some people hold (even if logical) came from evolutionary pressures .

> Compositing is only an issue if you can't disable it
Once compositing becomes the norm, it changes how software is written, thus even if you can disable it, you can't really. Before compositing was a thing, software drew directly to the front buffer with accelerated drawing apis. This allowed for an unrivaled responsiveness. But now all software draws to offscreen buffers.

I don't know, there is more to that.
For example Xfce4 feels sluggish compared to Windows.
Only after I changed to plain window manager and I'm still using Picom in-between the certain heaviness has gone away.
I think gtk and some other stuff is just way too heavy for what they are suposed to be.

* the problem was created in the 70's when bill gates said if people stopped sharing software he was going to hire 10 good programmers and never did. that was the beginning of enshittification
* in the 90's, factories were sold to asian countries for a few years of output, and americans were going to be employed by writing shitty proprietary software that it would be illegal to modify yourself, i.e. rent seeking instead of innovation
* in the 00's and 10's, the flower of my generation went to silicone valley to grow boobies while writing garbage user-hostile programs. even linux systems began to have incompatible trash forced on them by lennartswami poetterjeesh and the waylandgupta team. by now weve transitioned from oss -> alsa -> pulseaudio -> pipewire and sound still regularly fails. every command you learn has a half life of 5 years before the next swami comes along and replaces it with something inferior
* the indians are better at the izzat system of modern software

It's been verified by reviewers like that Kerry Wong guy. Checked myself and it's legit.
Advertised as 20000 count but actually the current is 2000 count. It's 20000 on the other DMM functions. The other functions except NCV work as expected. NCV is worse than your typical shitty meter.
