Let's be real here, x86 will be forgotten in 10 years.
Fex makes it obsolete.
give it 10-15 years and lets hope that arm machines will stay as open as they are right now (bootloader unlocking and shit). actually, give it another 30 years and riscv will be the hot new thing
>>107823946>x86 will be forgotten in 10 years.Said Andrew Tanenbaum in 1992. Here we are in 2026 still using it, albeit the 64 bit extension.Alternatives will probably come, maybe even from Chinese companies. Maybe cheap laptops will transition, as they already have started to. But I think desktops and workstations will continue to use some sort of x86 processors.
>>107823946> let's be realyou are retarded. x86 has been around for over 40 years. do you think there is a company out there that is a) going to rewrite all the microcode required to run anything and b) obsolete all software made from the last 40 years and c) even with emulation nobody is going to want to run the newfangled buggy shit because it's going to be a fucking mess. you don't understand how many bugs have been ironed out in the last 40 years. that is the only reason your computer is stable and not crashing every 20 minutes. good luck with your newfangled shit.
>>107823974>These things never happen as fast as people want.it literally fucking used to happen this fast just 20 years ago.
You MOTHERFUCKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERS.How do we solve the RAM crisis?Good gaming should have 32 GB, Workstation (heavy compilation, DB, calculations) 64 GB, and good home-server + simulations best should have 512 GB (4x128)
I was hoping that would slup pc sales and GPU's get cheaper. But they already slowed production 30-40% and cancelled the refresh.
>>107824720GPUs need RAM too, so a RAM crisis tends to make them more expensive.

So, I'm a retard that had a USB extended storage device for my PS5. It can only handle partitions up to 8tb, so I formatted 8tb as ExFat in windows, then extended storage on PS5. I just gave someone the PS5 and forgot to format it back. Now my PC can't see the other 8tb partition to wipe it, only the 4tb ExFat partition. I still have my PS4 Pro, but again, it only sees the 4tb partition and not the other 8. Am I just fucked now
>>107825827TLDR, it's a 12tb HDD with 8 of it formatted to Snoy's gay proprietary file system. Now that I want to use it on PC, i can't see the other fucking partition to wipe it.
What a retarded subhuman, next thing you're telling me is you're dual booting windows and linux in the same drive.
>>107825932Negative. This is pretty fucking irritating though. Not even the fucking disk partition tool in the command line can see it.

>>107818973You can link dynamically in rust.Literally a non issue.
>>107819013It's complex. While that is possible, one problem you have to contend with is side-channels. Two distinct programs can bypass memory protection by using cross-process page dedup as a side-channel. Usually such dedup only happens on processes in the same process tree for this reason. Linux has some kernel "daemon" that can do whole memory dedup, by the way. It's a bit strange honestly.

/g/, where did (You) learn Assembly?
>>107818149>whereAt home. I had a CP/M machine and I learned 8080 assembly. Actually the machine had a z80 so I could also use the handy block move opcodes. I taught myself from a book and from existing source code. Got to the point where I wrote a text editor and a disk editor. Fun times.More recently, also at home, in progress, I am learning x86 assembly in the Linux operating system. Not as nice nor clean as z80 but it has some features z80 didn't. I wrote a Forth in it, also a False (a language created by Wouter van Oortmerssen). Step by step progress.

>>107825273there is a GUI chat you can use it's just not very good and no one uses it, gui in general are very ineffecient for quickly doing a bunch of stuff/configuration. LLMs are just arbitrary text and the best things to edit and adjust those are the keyboard and arbtirary text. Running and passing in command line outputs and even using claude as a command line tool is very common. GUI are also not as customizable, are slower, are less adjustable (you can litearlly install and use a terminal claude code on any terminal) it's insanely useful. Frankly I didn't actually use that much terminal based stuff before claude code but since adjusting it I literally do everything in terminal (apart of using emacs for a text editor which is still similar in spirit) Once you get used to it any gui is just bad and unpleasant to use. Much of what it does is itself just running terminal commands, and getting comfortable with those and knowing what it's doing, adding terminal tools it can use and other stuff is where these tools are very useful. It's just something dynamic to be integrated with other stuff.
>>107825243GPT 5.2/Sonnet 4.5 for general questions and Opus 4.5 for actual coding. Lately I’ve been experimenting with GLM 4.7 which has performed as well as Sonnet. I’m prepping for the probably that Claude is going to get priced out of the average consumer so better to get an early ear in the open source models. Granted I’m not doing any complex tasks, certainly not automation.
>>107825357>gui in general are very ineffecient for quickly doing a bunch of stuff/configuration.Almost any feature in a TUI can in principle be implemented in a GUI. GUIs can be super keyboard-driven. Check out qutebrowser for example.A CLI that you can use in shell scripts and pipelines gives real advantages over both a TUI and a GUI but can coexist with both, it's a third thing. A TUI that takes over your whole terminal and draws its own graphical elements loses most of the advantages of a CLI.IMO the only important strict advantage for users of a TUI over a GUI is that you can run it over SSH and in other situations where you don't have a graphical interface. In many other ways it's worse, for example copy/pasting text into or out of a TUI can be very annoying compared to a nice GUI (or a CLI once you master xclip).Though there's also an advantage for the developer of the software, namely that they don't have to deal with the bullshit that is GUI programming. So my hypotheses were:1. Anthropic hasn't invested the effort it'd take to create a really good (keyboard-driven, resource-efficient, cross-platform) GUI.2. People like running it in a terminal for the hacker cred.3. There's some kind of synergy I'm missing that makes it better than the other TUIs I use.
>>107825573navigate in terminal and run claude when you need to do something quickly, there is no gui flow that will compare to that. Like I said I'm not really interested in convincing you I just assume you are retarded or can't type or something. Yes you could hypothetically put together a gui application that does this but you'd miss out on that quick ability to say hey i'm in a diretory I need to quickly do some busy work, let me run claude and tell it to do it here in 1 second and wow its done
>>107825745>navigate in terminal and run claude when you need to do something quicklyThat's actually the kind of use case I was interested in, thanks. I've been thinking of it as something people use for long sessions in which case popping open a separate window isn't a big deal.Does it have access to the context of questions you asked it five minutes ago or does it start a fresh conversation every time?
