holy shit taste

I just bought a 32Gib 512nvme i7-9850H quadro t1000 with a 4k panel for $400 on eBay (and uncle sam fucked me for 40 in taxes and 20 in shipping)--and I am regretting it and wish I bought the cheaper $330 1080p 48gib option but bought this one because I thought that the 4k panel might be good since 1080p is a bit bad for split screen latex but am now regretting it since it will
- Drain battery faster (might take up 20% extra)
- Be a pain to use because I will be forced to set it to 200% scaling for a good experience with my external 1080p monitors (probably, I have never used 4k but xorg will likely strangle me too)
- Cost more
- Doesn't have as much ram
- At 15.6" and normal sitting, I probably won't ever notice

I don't think it has been shipped yet but also don't want to try to return it since that might make me an asshole...I will have to go check if the seller even accepts returns...

I am really crying over this...why is life so hard?

You coreboot chromebooks to turn them into normal UEFI laptops, this way you can run any linux distro without relying on the "developer mode" options in your rapidly aging version of chromeOS

I'll be real, having not enough real shit to worry out that you seek out firmware-level FOSS freedom on your hardware is a luxury you can't afford right now, work on your base needs, feeling comfortable in your own skin is one of those base needs.

>As for uefi ThinkPads miss some of hp and dell features, I'm used to.
What would I miss coming from a ~15 year old desktop? I'm assuming it has at least as good of UEFI support as that?

>>Backpack
>Ok. For me anything bigger than 13" is too big to really carry around.
I don't suppose there is anything smaller that would completely replace my current desktop while still being affordable?

>It's up to you if you want the 1080p one. It's cheap and p53 is okay for linux and light 3d
I thought it was fine for medium 3d too? Either way I don't really need too good of a gpu since I don't play video games nor do anything beyond super light Blender work on rare occasions. RDR2 can also be ran on a GTX 460 at like 7-13fps and I thought that was playable when I used to be a "gamer" all those years ago so I'm not too picky. Is the 4GiB vram limiting? I know that t40 24Gib gpus are like $100-150 if I ever needed to make a DIY external gpu via TB3 for local large AI model but that is only if needed and would be quite absurd. More modern gpus would likely be available by the time I would have need for one.

>Has good connectivity and overall feels ok
Having only two usb-a ports is annoying though but it has a trackpoint--are they worth it though? I hate trackpads but haven't ever gotten to use a trackpoint.

Unless you do lossless encoding (Which no one does, specially YT), uploading at 60 FPS doesn't double your filesize, and if it's just a slideshow, it should be pretty close since you're gonna re-use pretty much the same macroblocks.
What surprises me is that 4K isn't a premium feature, I feel that YT could save a lot of money if they only allowed monetized channels to upload 4K, and only YT premium subs to watch it. Realistically speaking, given that most people watch on mobile, you wouldn't really have that much backlash

It depends on the model.
Watch some videos to understand how well the anti-ghosting performance works. Black on white content rarely has problems, greyscale images are the biggest issue.

Linux has always lagged behind Microsoft and waaaay behind Apple in the audio domain. A DAW that BTFO's the competition that treats Linux as a first class citizen will attract many music producers who don't want to subject themselves to Microsoft's bullshit settle for Apple's stagnation. Gaming is already top tier on Linux now, audio is the next frontier then video will quickly follow.

Mark my words, anon. I actually happen to be in the know.

Can you point out where in this post lies the incorrect part?
Unfortunately, the privacy of those systems hinges entirely on the whims of the American megacorp in charge, hence why GrapheneOS isn't just AOSP and why Play Services provided on the GOS app store are sandboxed and don't have elevated access.
>>
>>107743989
Download the apps from Github, or through Obtainium or Discoverium. Realistically F-Droid is probably going to be fine, but it does some stupid things they're unwilling to change.
>>
>>107743945
well that is bc the unix security system of file permission is shit
they are guardrails for the programs that shitted the bed and fucked each other files. they were for "safety" not security

Have you ever considered the possibility that some day normal consumer won't be able to afford a computer anymore?
With GPU and RAM price increases, this nightmare scenario seems likely.

Wireless Internet connections might also get so full of traffic that one day fast Internet will be a luxury as well.

1. Give people cheap tech so they get dependent on it.
2. When they're addicted, start ramping up the price + scarcity
3. Win

Me? I'm already learning ways to survive without technology. In a few years you might have to live without tech.

I'm not going to "live" without anything. If there comes a point that my lifestyle is unsustainable because of the decisions of a bunch of old men in suits then I'm going to make sure I take down as many with me as I can before I die, and I'm sure I won't be the only one. The revolution will be a bloody one.

an inspiron 8000 started at $5,000 in 2000. it wasnt a gaming laptop or anything special, just a consumer laptop. And these are 2000 dollars, thats about $9500 today

$3500 today will buy you the flagship of custom brands like eurocom and sager. prices could quadruple, and i wouldnt care, the market is so saturated that mfgs are creating fake crisis, they cant make a buck off of budget equipment because the budget market is dominated by used shit. you really dont know how good you have it right now
>>
>>107739861
Okay, fine it was real but it's actually a good thing.
>>
>>107739312
Something like this is actually possible.

Hoard all your old computers and laptops. Even stuff like a Core Duo from 2006 is worth holding on to. Even a shitty AMD E2-1800 is worth keeping.

They're shit old computers, but at least they work, and at least they're open enough that you can install Linux or bsd and do some real computing with them.
In the future where you're only allowed some shitty locked down smartphone or ipad or thin client piece of shit, these old computers will be your only chance to be the owner of your own computing destiny.
