wtf is wrong with youtube these days? I am watching this video in 1080p, the highest resolution, and it looks more pixelated than I've ever seen on a video. And it's not a temporary buffer issue. I've reloaded and rewatched from the start, and it continues to look like this. I also frequently have 20s freezes for buffering on a video when I have 500Mbps down speeds. Is youtube just cheaping out on bandwidth to save money or what

/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. Know all about NAS? Learn virtualization. Spun up some VMs? Learn about networking by standing up a OPNsense/PFsense box and configuring some VLANs. There's always more to learn and chances to grow. Think you’re god-tier already? Setup OpenStack and report back.

>What software should I run?
Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavor of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

De-botnet your life. Learn something new. Serving applications to yourself, your family, and your frens feels good. Put your tech skills to good use for yourself and those close to you. Depends. How long is the warranty? How much is it? If it has a short warranty then how much is it to replace?

I personally stopped buying them from. They jacked up the prices so much after they started sponsoring youtubers. Why buy from them when if I spend $50 more I can get a NEW drive with a longer warranty than what they can provide.
If you can get a deal where you can save 50% off compared to a new drive then I would go for it, but not $50.

I'm fed up of making pods for every and any service I add to my server...
On the other hand, I learned so much more because if something crashes, it's only my pod, and I can purge and retry.
But, yeah, either I'm doing it wrong, or it adds more complexity than I tough...

Also, can I use lvm now on my already installed "hypervisor"?
With my luck I guess I must do a fresh install...

What in the world?
You buy a new stripe for 10 bucks on aliexpress and it's changed in 30min. Sure, you have to remove the panel, but that is barely an issue.
You can pay an electrician to do it for a proper wage with taxes and it will still be worth it.

ecelebs are such disgusting failures. Even when they throw money into 100 TVs and do years of testing, they still end up being dumber than an average consumer.

The wife wants me to buy her some cleaning technology to make her job a little easier. She asked for a battery vacuum that can take batteries for a quick suck before she mops.

I already own some Makita tools and Milkwakee so I have a bunch of spare batteries she can mooch from. What stick vacuumn technology should I get her so she can clean our house?

>VRR improves tearing at shit frame rates and nothing else,

VRR improves motion clarity, reduces tearing from frame pacing at the _ENTIRE RANGE_ the VRR is set for on the monitor, and however the drivers support it for the given vendor. (Nvidia is jewish)

It's not just for FPS far below refresh.

>So what happens when just one of those 144 frames renders in, say, 6.8ms (146 FPS average) instead of 6.9ms (144 FPS average) at 144Hz? The affected frame becomes ready too early, and begins to scan itself into the current “scanout” cycle (the process that physically draws each frame, pixel by pixel, left to right, top to bottom on-screen) before the previous frame has a chance to fully display (a.k.a. tearing).

I don't see any reason to not use G-Sync + V-Sync w/ 3 fps limited below your max HZ, unless you're some pro e-sport gamer and have the inhuman reaction times to merit it.

You're supposed to use G-Sync with V-Sync and framerate limiter 3 FPS below max VRR rate.
V-Sync won't introduce additional frames as long as you're in VRR range, which the limiter makes sure, it's for compatibility only.

You'll get no tearing and the lowest latency.

I don't want to see any snide remarks from Windows users about Linux users online habits ever again. Linus Torvalds is a wife fucking American who became an American by choice, which is the best kind of American there is. Bill gates had a great life and still turned out to be the kind of man who cheats on his wife with teenage girls. He's scum, just like his user base. Your OS is forever tainted and we will never let you live this down, because GNU knows that you would never let us live something like this down.

>Now, several women have reported that Gates engaged in inappropriate sexual misconduct or sexual advances over the past few decades while he was married. He allegedly made sexual advances and pursued sexual relations with women who worked for him at Microsoft and at his philanthropic organization, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Specifically, in 2019, Microsoft’s board of director, on which Gates sat at the time, opened an investigation into one of the claims after it received notice that Gates had pursued an “intimate relationship” with an employee back in 2000.

What’s up with all the anti Windows 7 posts lately?

I switched from Gentoo to Windows 7 Platinum a few weeks ago, and I haven’t had a single issue so far.

It’s noticeably faster than any DE or WM I’ve tried, which honestly surprised me, especially considering I’m running an RTX 5090.

At first, I was worried about security and getting hacked. But it turns out I can install a fully up to date browser and a modern firewall, so that’s no longer a concern.

It’s also much easier to use overall. The UI is consistent, clear, and easy to read. Because of that, I installed it on my girlfriend’s laptop and my parents’ PC as well and they’re really happy with it.

I genuinely don’t understand why some people are so strongly opposed to it, especially considering the massive influx of AI generated packages Linux distros have seen in recent months.
