My computer had its first fatal error message in several years and it was on startup. Almost got stressed and just ended up spamming the power button until it went away.Unironically what causes this to happen and how do I fix it?
>>107673317Hardware might be starting to fail, if the fatal error becomes a regular thing you might want to count the beeps and find the specs on that Laptop or PC and see what part is failingSo don't be so quick to hammer the power button and let it play out (if you want to fix it)
OP here nvm guys I figured it out
You're telling me, the entire infrastructure of the Internet that relies on this single service ran by a bunch of pajeets while also already proving that the entire service is not stable and has demonstrated that it can crash at a moment's notice, and NO ONE has decided to make an alternative?

Switching to Linux for gaming seems to be the popular thing these days and Steam is the choice for it. Whereas on Windows using GOG I can actually own my game and keep a copy of it, I'm not leasing it if the platform decides to just take shit back. Windows has better software support and freedom.

Why did valve based SteamOS off of arch instead of something like debian or fedora?
>>107671951They want full control and not to be held back by others.
>>107672148They'll use Nix next time
>>107672438No they can just sit in their own corner like a buncha nerds if it works for them
>>107672493Doubt it. Maybe in a decade if the devs ever get converted. They dont seem to want to remake their whole development and CI system when the Ubuntu runtime works. The linux container runtimes are Debian based and I doubt those will change in the next 4-5 years themselves.
>>107671951Arch is unironically the best gaming distro because you don't have to compile the newest drivers and libraries to make it work with recent games.
I was thinking about this for some time, renewable is a joke, nuclear is too expensive, hydro isn't available everywhere and cause problems with downstream countries Oil and Gas as energy sources are>Scalable >Cheap and abundant >The price of a power station is dirt cheap>Less variables that can reduce the output >Tech can be improved to reduce pollution Other alternatives are just failing to meet one or most of these criteriaThe US current attempt to change Venezuela gov is a public declaration that alternatives have mostly failed and at best just reduced the need for gas and oil by small margins

Any version of Windows since 1995 has been more polished, production-ready and user-friendly than any Linux distro ever made. That's obvious to anybody who has installed both of them on the same machine. Are Linux users just lying about their distros being a better experience than a Windows installation?
>>107621970>Why do Linux users pretend that Linux is a better experience than Windows?Because the Qubes OS experience is objectively superior in almost every metric conceivable.

bought an older XP computer cause I wanted an older machine to just own, I like the look of the old computer cases and wanted something that could run some old programs and cd-roms, didn't feel like emulating on my main pc.anyway my problem is I'm struggling to make out some of these parts, and also what to do in regards of if I need to add anything else to it. I'm gonna have to post like 5 comments under this with all the screenshots......
>>107673138looking at other motherboards but yeah my one wont support it.found this: https://ebay.us/m/wnP1Ow which looks pretty decent and should be a nice upgrade!
>>107673157Oh ok I misread, yeah that would be a nice with the added bonus of running a lot cooler. But once you reach the core 2 it really does feel like you're using a slow modern PC whereas the P4 you posted in the OP would make for a fun win98/2K dual boot. IMO get keep both machines running as they can do different stuff.
>>107673181I'll definitely keep both, but I'm just aiming to have a fun retro sort of xp build that can run some games from back then!
