/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. Know all about NAS? Learn virtualization. Spun up some VMs? Learn about networking by standing up a OPNsense/PFsense box and configuring some VLANs. There's always more to learn and chances to grow. Think you’re god-tier already? Setup OpenStack and report back.

>What software should I run?
Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavor of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

>Why should I have a home server?
De-botnet your life. Learn something new. Serving applications to yourself, your family, and your frens feels good. Put your tech skills to good use for yourself and those close to you. Store their data with proper availability redundancy and backups and serve it back to them with a /comfy/ easy to use interface.

I could make do with 16 ports now that I think about it. No less than that though. 10 wall jacks minimum would be going to it and that could go up to 13 if the ISP situation changes (their IPTV shit NEEDS to go through a separate port on the IPTV VLAN and I have 3)
>or VLANs
It's possible. Will have to read more into how the fuck to use the .1q vlan shit.

a PON fttp cable terminates wherever the engineer sees fit for it to terminate. They can run it outside, inside, upstairs, downstairs. They can run almost invisible 600 micron fibre (Invisilight) around skirting boards and doorframes if they need to.
You and I might be happy to run our own wiring and might even find it convenient to have the ONT in the basement. The vast majority of people are clueless about home networking, use only wireless connections, and would have no idea where to start troubleshooting other than calling the ISP and saying "my internet is slow".

The installer ought to have been aware that the router will need to go somewhere central and placed the ONT accordingly. A basement isn't a suitable location unless there's existing ethernet that allows the router to go elsewhere.
>>
>>107586914
>a PON fttp cable terminates wherever the engineer sees fit for it to terminate.
Where I live, infrastructure cabling tends to run through the ground and thus terminates in a basement.
People don't just go about drilling holes through outside walls on a whim.
It might be different if your house is made out of paper mache and dreams in the US.

>/g/ makes a 19th album
Theme: [Accepting suggestions]

>Song submission rules/guidelines
Upload the file somewhere, preferably in a lossless format, and post the link here. If you want to update your track, make a new post.
Include the song title in the post, and make it clear that your song is a submission for the album.
Optionally you may include cover art for your track, but please confirm that the image in your post is the cover art or it won't be included. You may not use your real artist name.
Songs that contain anything against YouTube's policies won't be uploaded on YT, but will still be added to the album.
By default, tracks will be normalised to -14 LUFS (integrated loudness) in the release. You may specify a lower loudness for your track.
Use of AI is banned. This includes AI generated stems, samples, and effects. "AI" includes all neural network-based models and not hard-coded automation/procedural generation. You are allowed to ask an LLM about music-related questions, but asking it to give you musical ideas (eg. generating a chord progression) is already a no-no.

cant make this sound cleaner, i've compressed everything with kick input, and compressed when vocals briefly kick in, but i think it sounds messy all around

i have zero experience in mastering, just ear-balling lol

there is no excessive reverb, basically no send reverb

what can i do not to drown everything in bass and ambient sounds?
>>
>>107586087
Sometimes it just comes down to sound selection, percussion included
for me when things start feeling hopelessly messy to me, it's back to the drawing board with sound selection or composition.
you say messy, well in relation to what? Listen to the 'what', and make what you're doing closer to it

>might accidentally murder you in your sleep

Not a real problem. Just make them physically weak like babies.

People raised on scifi books always have this unspoken assumption that a humanoid robot must be built physically superhumanly strong but there is no rational reason to do that if you're not designing them for anything that requires strength. If anything, the rational thing to do is make them extremely weak, for safety.
>>
>>107582914
Correct. Have you also taken the gf pill?

>this unspoken assumption that a humanoid robot must be built physically superhumanly strong
A robot that is strong enough to open a door or help you carry stuff from your car into the house will also be strong enough to kill you, even without superhuman strength.
>>
>>107575577
Define "realistic". We already have prototype robowaifus being demoed by XPeng now. Not sure when they'll be on sale, but I'm guessing in a couple years. Probably be expensive to begin with though.

uBO creator himself does not suggest enabling any extra filter lists beyond the pre-enabled ones as it's likely to cause breakage with sites and in many cases have worse filters overlap and disable better filters making your overall privacy and security as well as compatibility and usability worse. Average tweaker/deblooter brain can't comprehend that things can be okay out of the box.

>uBO creator himself does not suggest enabling any extra filter lists beyond the pre-enabled ones
He never said this. Complete nonsense. uBlock handles overlap between filters. The defaults are balanced for compatibility, great enough coverage and most importantly cpu/mem usage and startup speed.

I've imported a dozen high quality filters and i regularly see garbage blocked by one or more of those that aren't by the base filters in the ublock logger (ublock logger assigns blame to which filter(s) blocked what). All the while very rarely encountering breakage.

However, updating filters and startup (incognito) (especially before ublock has created a "selfie") is abysmally slow and very memory and cpu intensive now.

GrapheneOS discredited them

>It's not a theoretical problem. There have been numerous cases of F-Droid reintroducing vulnerabilities patched by apps and breaking the security of apps. F-Droid also rarely every notices when apps make changes they consider a problem prior to publishing the updates but rather they mark their list of anti-features or patch the app retroactively. It's only when an app very openly does something detected by their basic scanning that they'll deal with it prior to publication. It's a misconception that it provides any protection from app developers since they publish whatever is published by app developers unless they did something like including a closed source library detected by their scans, which can be tested by someone malicious in advance. Multiple F-Droid core developers have also repeatedly covered up vulnerabilities, misled people about how things work and other actions demonstrating it isn't trustworthy.
>>
>>107586683
Isn't the maker of GrapheneOS the same guy that created CoppheadOS, which is another security focused android spinoff that sells user data?

>>
>>107586730
https://grapheneos.org/history/copperheados#new-product

>The new product branded as CopperheadOS is closed source and not associated with the original project. They took our project's previous name and copied our legacy source code and documentation. Attribution to us has been stripped away and they pretend to be the ones who created it.

>They've essentially stolen the identity of our open source project and have invested substantial resources into misrepresenting GrapheneOS as being a new project. They've built a business based on taking credit for research and development not done by them. Substantial damage has been done to GrapheneOS through an organized campaign of misinformation and harassment.

>CopperheadOS is a paid product and has license enforcement compromising user privacy and security through tracking devices to implement DRM. They use the outrageous business model of charging users for security updates rather than simply selling them the software or devices with it.
