What's /g/'s opinion on Mental Outlaw? I've been a fan of his for a long long time, he's the one that made me privacy conscious and made me switch to Linux. I remember once reading in one of his comment sections that he was "bullied off /g/" by some guy, is this true? Also, if you're seeing this thread Kenny, hi!

This is what happens to every channel once they get over 100,000k subs. They become a "company" a "brand."
I get my tech content from sub 20k channels. At that level they're not bought and paid for yet.

No one does. They can't. The software/OS world is fucked. Nothing works, nothing is reliable, everything is broken trash. This is because
>Companies hire the D student programmers/engineers who are grossly incompetent, to save money
>Companies hire quality and qualified developers/engineers who then have their hands tied by boomer executives who can't use their outlook without calling IT for help.
Either way, modern tech is dogshit. Sometimes on purpose (planned obsolescence) or by sheer incompetence.
I can walk you through how to install X, Y, and Z on your computer where I have zero problems, but you try it and run into a 1000 problems and brick your shitty system. Thus, no one can know what they're talking about.

Linus himself as said that if BSD wasn't in the legal situation it was in the early 90s he would have never made his kernel. What do you think the world would be like if BSD was being used for supercomputers and android and /g/ rather than linux? Would Free/Open/Dragonfly/NetBSD still exist or would eveyone just be using 4.3BSD/386BSD?

They got sued by UNIX System Laboratories for license violation and copyright infringement. It went on for 2 years and then was settled out of court.

What has changed in the last 20 years?

Image formats, audio formats, video formats, codecs, etc. all are basically the same. No new software that really requires a new computer. Everything you can do today can be done on a 15 year old computer.

What has even changed in operating systems? Shiny buttons, fancy graphics, and more fluff just so people have something to feel good about when they post their lame ricing screenshots.

After so many years, we still don't even have an open design of a CPU, Motherboard, RAM or any component. Forget current generation, if that's too much to ask, but even the ones from a decade ago don't have an open design. At least that would've been good reason to upgrade.

Otherwise, what even is the point of upgrading the computer so often? Just to play stupid video games?
>>
>>107691738
Local AI is the only reason right now to scale up.
It's going to take what maybe 5 more years when you actually need to upgrade if not more.
It depends also what cpu type you have AM4 or AM5 if AVX512 will become important in the future then I at least need to upgrade.

Heck, I can even do semi heavy stuff like compiling and it just go warm. While my main PC 9800X3D gets hot while being water cooled and isn't really faster at all.

I love my little MBA M3.

You can see .dmg files as a remnant of how floppy disks worked. Back in the day you'd mount a floppy disk and either run the software from it, or drag it to your machine and then unmount it.
The installers are entirely different, usually they require some extra configurations being set system wide or a specific driver to be added, if you use an installer you will not have to drag anything.

you have to be a subhuman to work in sales so absolutely fucking not, people do not understand how sick and twisted salespersons actually are, they would sell their entire family if it makes the shareholders happy, they're humanity biggest ennemies from within alongside hr, ruining companies wherever they go, there is a reason why jensen is doing the business himself, NEVER EVER trust a salesperson whose only skill is to sell things, it WILL backfire.

im curious, do you have any specific examples of poor optimization with normal engines?
>>
>>107689843
More a case of "damn, this screwdriver really sucks at loosening nuts!". Most common game engines are optimized for more static geometry, use of light and shadow, few transparencies, etc. The engines are an ecosystem, and integrating 3rd party compiled code with it... as a general rule, can either be very difficult or very inefficient.
Meanwhile, I had to spend 1/3 of each frame pushing new geometry, terrible compile times and crazy bugs from linking in my constantly changing library, duplicated twice/thrice buffers cause my library, the engine, and the GPU all wanted different formats, etc. Parallel compute issues were just the nail in the coffin.
>>
>>107689843
More than poor optimization it's that they have a fucktonne of extra shit a specific game doesn't need because they are used for everything from MMORPGs to FPS to archviz to movies.

It's not that you can do a better job than Epic engineers with 25 years of experience, it's that you don't have to do any job at all in 99.9% of cases when comparing with something like UE5.

Reminder of the following:

1. Google will merge ChromeOS and Android to form a FOSS Linux-based desktop OS that will be 100% free to download and use.

https://www.androidauthority.com/aluminium-os-android-for-pcs-3619092/

2. Windows will be severely affected by this new, totally free competitor and will bleed marketshare.

3. All existing Linux desktop environments will be totally outclassed by Google's top secret desktop UI and underlying OS. Even Linux users will give up on shit like Mint and just use Google's desktop for their daily driver OS.

2026 will finally be the year of the Linux desktop, and it will be because Google will do to desktops what they did to phones.

You know it's coming. Don't act like this was a surprise.

because android was historically written by white people, just like everything good in this world.
indians ruin everything they touch as their sole mission in life is to replace any non-indians under them by indians, chineses do the same, it's very well documented, look it up.
In the case of fagman, indians taking leadership positions lines up perfectly with the time these companies stopped making good products.
