Probably comes recommended but I just wanna check, what are the impressions on the HiBy R3 II? Haven't really fucked with modern DAPs and I was originally gonna just mod an iPod Mini or 4th gen with Rockbox, but I figured it'd just be overall better to go with the R3.
Also what are some recommendations for IEMs to go along with it that specifically have a cute girl on the box? I don't even actually need to have that restriction if there's a better rec you have in mind, but I'm a sucker for the novelty. I previously had a pair of KZ ZSN Pro Xs and they were fine but one of the buds broke
>>
>>101291809
Yeah, you gotta look around.
About a month ago, I ordered a set of W1 in S size off AE and paid something like $18. I like them a lot but wondered if the SS size would fit me even better. So I got it off Amazon. I'll try them tomorrow.

I really like eartips that come in S and SS sizes. My ear canal is fairly narrow.

>Thoughts on the Spinfit W1
the current-gen spinshits, considerably different from older models like CP100 for example, designed from ground-up with the only common element being the swiveling neck which is also an acoustic element so there are similarities in how they sound, but the new W1/Omni/SuperFine spinshits are thinner, softer, more tacky and grippy, so they can create a good seal and remain in your ear canal even if you use big pos and have sweaty/waxy ear canals, so I think they're designed very well, but on the other hand...
>L size
this is where you should get absolutely sure what size is the best for you as they are very size-sensitive, pick one size too large and the fit will be awful, the thin silicone will wrinkle and break the seal easier than in thicker tips, they're fine-made and supposed to be fine-matched with your ear
what I can advise is to pick one size smaller than you normally use, for example ML if you use L tips, because W1s are supposed to go deep into your canal and canals are tapered, this would be your start point and depending on how good the seal is and if it breaks if pushing your pos deeper, you may want to get even smaller ones (in this case M)

melody is a smaller driver. most impressions of smaller planars is that they lack the "planar techs," and especially so for one like the melody, which is tuned a fairly heavy v-shape with quite a bit of midbass bleed. basically, meh, your f1 pro beats it out, just eq or enjoy as is. the melody is inferior.
>>
Reminder that only the center of a planar is moving so a 14mm planar is at best equivalent to an 8mm DD. This is how they achieve impressive treble extension but their subbass is trash.

Nevermind, I guess the wide bores were just not for me on Gates since using the small narrows make them a lot more comfortable. Still don't get a dip at ~10khz though, in fact, there's a fat peak there. And no, I didn't shove the pos as far as I could into the coupler.

>>
>>101303558

measurements pst 8khz are tricky. it’s all dependent on your own HRTF. For instance I have a peak around 7khz so subsequently around 9-10khz the gate dips slightly by comparison.
but yes I do think that dip at 10khz was intentional. Nuo doesn’t have a gap and it’s way too much damn energy. Measures better, performs worse.

Even people that make decent money in the first world would be cost averse to spending $250+ just to try new headphones. With chi fi you can try 10 different pairs for that, and at the end of the day all that matters is what sounds good to you personally, not what you paid. I admire these iem addicts because they actually can form their own opinions versus the average headphone buyer that blows hundreds in one go and hopes the youtuber didn’t lie to them and has the exact same ears they do.

How is isolation of bullet pos compared to normal pos? Many bullets seem to be sealed, so I thought maybe they isolate better?
>>
>>101305761
If you only have time to read one book, then Sound Reproduction by Floyd Toole is considered to be an excellent one that covers many topics in acoustics/psychoacoustics, from blind testing to preference research and more while not being too dense or complicated. A fourth edition is going to come out in 2025, with a rewritten (?) headphone chapter by Sean Olive.
Something that is a much easier read would be Ethan Winer's The Audio Expert book that is very basic, but approaches audio in a very informal and casual manner.
There are also more math/eng focused books on electroacoustics, but these aren't very relevant to what is being discussed in the hobby. The focus is primarily on psychoacoustics and very basic mechanical and electrical eng concepts that you can learn anywhere.
Most of the important knowledge is in forms of studies that are often locked behind AES/JAES subscriptions, although most of the important ones are in a mega folder somewhere.
>>

Let's put the shit flinging and memes aside.

If you're talking about sound quality, it depends on how you define it. If you are talking about overall enjoyment from the user's perspective, then the question itself is flawed because price is most likely correlated with preference. People will naturally gravitate towards more expensive IEMs because of various reasons.

If you're talking about "objective" audio performance, then there is very little reason to go above a certain price point. If you do plan on using EQ and are competent with it, then most IEMs and their drivers are capable of "responding" to said EQ with ease, and this includes dirt cheap IEMs (ie <$5).
If you don't plan on using EQ, then it depends on your preferences. As you go higher in price, more possibilities are available as companies have the necessary resources to shape FR to their goals. In most cases, you'll get every FR variation there is under the $1000 mark.

At $5 because I prefer flawed, cheaper earbuds to better sounding, more expensive ones.

What happened to the headphones general? I am looking in the catalog and archive and can't find it. Have inears taken over the world?

My point was he's just talking to shitposter/bot, not someone who's actually looking for advice.

Mostly dead. There's just not enough stuff happening to actually keep it alive. Add a few schizos, and a constant barrage of purchase advice posts and you get a general that doesn't have much value.
>/hifi/
Same story, but it's death was just due to inactivity instead of advice posts. Lack of market movement, relatively high barrier of entry, decreasing popularity, and solved science/innovation in terms of preference have made it useless.
>/iemg/
Doing fine all things considered. Market is about to enter a stagnant phase, but there's a lot of market movement and a decent chunk of innovation happening. Barrier of entry is also very very low, so a lot of newcomers and retards.

>>101312840
How else would you explain multiple posts asking about the same retarded question about using etymotics on the road instead of legitimate ear pro? That motorists are retards with no concern for their own well-being? because that's a pretty solid explanation too.

More autists discuss and shitpost here. /hpg/ has less.
>Have inears taken over the world?
Not at all if we're talking about average consumer awareness and ubiquity of headphones versus IEMs. General shift for both has been from wired to wireless, but particularly the smaller, more portable IEMs. People trying and liking affordable wired Chi-Fi is a steady upwards trend though.

you can also search a little more and discover other ways to pirate and realize how useless private trackers are nowadays, except for being foruns with nice organization and no ads with the same conversations as public foruns

It's not that hard
>download the .torrent and put it on the seedbox
>once it's completed, copy the folder in the library
And that's all, I don't even worry about maintaining a ratio
