Could you recommend a new "flavour of the month" IEMs? I currently own a Letshuoer S12 Pro but looking for an upgrade. BTR7 as a source. My primary uses are gaming and music, and I'm seeking the most neutral sound possible. Budget is between $500 and $1000.

The changes look solid, although I'm curious about the reasoning you used for EQing the region from 3 to 8 kHz, and the region where it is dipped right after.
>>
>>101372269
reduce the 2khz a bit and yes. You can bump up that 300hz *slightly* for more natural tone, “mud” never killed no one
>>
>>101372291
wanted to increase the lower-treble a bit, but keep some of the dip at 6700Hz. Also most of it is auto EQ. I think this one was based on the truthear nova, starting from 300hz

>>101372342
Will do that. What's the reason behind lowering 2khz?

its not exactly mud as long as it ain't NGGAR bass and has treble sparkle to balance out

The reason I asked for your reasoning is because those regions shouldn't be EQed with the graphs. AutoEQ with this assumption that graphs are reliable in those ranges can result in "wrong" results.
More power to you if you like it, but just something to keep in mind.

Hello, /iemg/. I've been using KBEar Storm for about a year and am looking for upgrades.

My budget is about ~50€ and I listen to Jazz and DnB 90% of the time. I was about to stretch my budget to 80€ to grab the Truthear Hexa but a huge amount of the amazon reviews say they arrived broken OR broke very soon after (a few months). Where I am, it's a hassle to return shit to amazon.

Does anyone have any suggestions for my taste/budget? Should I just take the plunge on the hexas?

And honestly, do I even bother upgrading? I'm not unhappy with what I have, I'm just wondering what I'm "missing out on". (consoomer fomo i guess)

I really like the sound of these and the noise canceling (especially with foams) is way better than even good anc stuff. Unfortunately if you are using them in a situation where you will need to take them in and out of your ears at all, you’re going to want something else pretty soon. The other issue is since they fit so deep, I was constantly fiddling with them to get the fit matched well enough for good channel matching. You may not have these issues tho

>opinions on the Letshuoer S08's?
It won't be that planar-y compared to treble-heavy sets of yesteryear. It's more inoffensive, tamed, and warm (good or bad depending what you desire). Most planars don't fit great due to the larger driver. S08 is no exception and probably won't be the most ergonomic IEM.

>>101371975
>flat
>MDR-V6
FYI those two things are not analogous. MDR-V6 are V-shaped, despite any impression you have of them being "studio headphones." They are far from "neutral."
>something that'll last me at least 2 years
Depends how well you take care of your IEMs among other factors. If you have waxy as fuck ears and live in humid conditions, then it is what it is. IEMs use physical filter elements which may get clogged. Replacing filters is easy and inexpensive.
>200 USD at most
Artti R1, Kefine Delci, Simgot EA500LM, Myer CKLVX D41 / Pula PA02, TRI I3 MK3, Xenns Mangird Tea2. These are various sound signatures. It is up to (You) to judge them as more or less aligned to what you prefer. Without hearing them yourself or understanding frequency response graphs, just choose what looks cool. Ordering from Amazon = ez return policy.

>My budget is about ~50€
Do not get Hexa for your genres of jazz and DnB, they are severely lacking in the bass department.
>do I even bother upgrading?
Not really, up to you. Learn to EQ and/or enjoy what you have. You can have the mental copium of consooming when sales are active to feel better about it. I'd consider Artti R1 or Kefine Delci. Also, TKZK Ouranos is 50% off on Amazon right now, strong all-rounder.

711 and 5128 never depict the 5-8 kHz resonances on measurements. But they're always present during sine sweep check. It's the very ear gain that's neglected by Harman target. That's why it's so hated by everyone besides specific bass signature. The resonances also differ for every individual ear canal anatomy.
>>
>>101375123
They actually do in most cases. 711 is usually made at 8 kHz but that unrealistic for most people where the resonance takes place between 5-8 as you said.
For the 5128, it's usually subtle and not consistent because of the pinna inclusion and possible canal transfer function bullshit too.
Harman is NOT hated for that reason. It's mainly related to elevated 3-8 kHz combined with an excessive mid bass tuck, both of which tilt the FR counterclockwise in a very distasteful manner.

it is good-looking indeed, if not for the word Truthear written on the faceplate giving away its chink manufacturer I'd swear that it's made by Swedes or other Scandinavians because its minimal, angular, well-proportioned design looks like it's taken straight from those areas, it's like the polar opposite of those shiny "le status symbol" jewelry designs that I detest, that's why for me the Hexa is one of the best pos in terms of look

After contacting the local postal office, it turns out the pos had arrived in my city, but it has already been returned. Furthermore the chink told me to fuck off with my refund. The pos only stayed here for a single day before being returned and I was not informed about having to pick it up at the local post office. My 2 options are to accept no refund or "don't agree with above solution".
I just want to listen to music bros.

Just do a charge back from your bank. That's what I had to do when I bought something off of aliexpress, returned it, and they kept denying that I ever returned it despite giving them the receipts over and over showing it was returned and delivered.
Aliexpress customer service is dogshit, it is impossible to get shit resolved, only way to get your money back from these chinks is through your bank.
I fucking hate aliexpress cause when it works it's fine, but when something goes wrong they will refuse to refund you. Chang will fight tooth and nail to keep your money and insist it's your fault.

Going to be working in an office in the coming year. Want some IEMs that have good noise cancellation and battery. Price isn't too critical but their use wouldn't basically be "office ear plugs for calls, occasional music or audiobooks" so top-end sound quality isn't imperative. Anyone make any purchases with similar use case?

Listening to Wanker studio more, they've definitely tuned down the bass compared to the original, they're quite flat but not sibilant like most flat-DF tuned iems.

I'd say even relatively huge 3 kHz peak is okay to me but there must be a 5-8 kHz deep for neutral sound with slight decay to upper frequencies. According to bass response Harman has okayish shelf with 200 Hz dip which I prefer to the way it is elevated for HBB collabs. I also prefer deep decay between 200-1000 Hz down to -20 dB according to approximate graphs.

I always used medium sized wide bore tips. I got good seal, there was enough bass. Now I tried small narrow bore tips, and they seal just as good + provide better isolation because I can insert the IEM a bit deeper.

My right iem is suffering channel imbalance. I'm going to put it in a container with some silica gel to see if that helps. What else should I do? I really don't want it to shit itself.
>>
>>101384714
I don't have those, but I got the Hexa also from Truthear, and I think the included tips are the same. I'd suggest the smallest tips with the small hole, because this maximizes insertion depth. If you don't get a good seal, move a size up, but I think those Zero Reds have a pretty wide nozzle like the Hexas have, so it might suffice, even if you usually use medium/large tips.
>>
>>101384808
they are replacement filters, you only add them if the previous ones fall out
not sure if these are acoustically transparent, but if not then you have modified the sound
>>101384809
depends on what type of iem it is. metal iems and those with condensation-prone filters will probably be fine after a while
>>
>>101384809
It is time to consume new product.
>>
I am currently trying Etymotics for the first time, so I guess I am not a virgin anymore. While the feeling inside the ear is indeed a bit unusual, they are actually pretty comfortable. The sine sweep was nice, there is really no need to EQ until 14 kHz where there is a peak for me. I need to try them in a noisy environment to compare isolation to other pos.
>>
>>101384846
It's a resin build with a metal nozzle and dust cover.
>>
>>101384946
make sure you inserted them deep enough. the best, and often forgotten method is to check for occlusion effect. speak with them in your ears and see if you still hear your voice being amplified. low frequency humming will still be amplified but normal talking shouldn't.
>>101384947
having a pic of the nozzle or the name of the iem would be nice. don't know if this is attributable to driver failure or otherwise
>>
>>101385027
>occlusion effect
Thank you, I didn't know that. It is exactly as you say; humming is very loud compared to speech. I use a mechanical keyboard with blue switches, which are one of the loudest afaik. With the etymotics inside, it sounds a bit like as if I type on a laptop keyboard.

ntg but i use musicolet & wavelet for android. in musicolet go settings - audio - set to system equalizer, then in wavelet import an EQ profile in AutoEQ. You can make/get an EQ profile from Squiglink.

Go on the squiglink site, go to models and find your IEM, then set a reference target OR pick another iem to your liking you want to mimic. Then go to equalizer and select your iem in the parametric equalizer, scroll down and press autoEQ, change to taste.

This is why if you don't have a speaker setup your "preferences" are completely meaningless. You simply have no reference on how things are supposed to sound, you can't tell a bad mix from a bad tuning.

You can't use EQ because you have no IEMs.

So literally the only thing i don't like about the Nova is the stock cable. Luckly I had a older Zonie just hanging around, and it solved everything. But now I'm considering getting a blue one to match the IEMs. Is this gay or do you guys do this with your pos?
>>
>>101391153
having mismatched colours signals that you're serious about your musical experience, even to the detriment of your physical aesthetic uniformity (which can be an aesthetic in itself)
i'd say wear the zonie you have with pride, knowing that you're above the people who take more care in matching the colour of their equipment rather than the output of the equipment itself
>>
>>101390802
This is why i switch between many different EQ's in quick succession, otherwise i won't be able to tell what sounds good and bad.

I'll elabrote.

With the release of the Kanas Pro (1DD), they sort of hit a decent tuning for a 1DD IEM (pretty much good all around).

Ever since its release, every single successful 1DD has been tuned the EXACT SAME (with a few deviations on the tuning). If you release something that's not tuned to the Kanas Pro Target (KPT) people will see the measurements and have a meltdown about it on headfi/iemg/other shill site and you will sell 0 units.

The only successful 1DD you can make MUST be tuned to the KPT, otherwise you risk going under as an IEM maker.

Sorta yes sorta no. I’m a massive oldfag who’s sorta been in the headPOS hobby for over a decade but I hadn’t gone back to IEMs since like 2021.
>>101396761
Thanks. Ya that makes sense. Kanas i would dare say is a pretty decent IEM so there’s a lot worse measurebators could cling on to I suppose.
>>
>>101396849
im not EQing incel

everyone in this "hobby" (consumerism) is a measurebator these days, or even worse, a braindead EQ study trust le science poster. It's very grim.

in-ear monitors, which means a neutral, very well isolating set of earphones, suitable for professional use first
only a handful of what we're used to call "IEMs" are real IEMs
>>
>>101397052
what do you consider neutral?

Professional IEMs sound fucking awful lol. You are not mixing on stage. Isolation and fit security is all that's required from stage IEMs.

the progenitor to coomdrop's throwaway shit that clogs or breaks after a few weeks, including Aria and Chu
it goes like this:
>hi-end
Kanas Pro -> KXXS -> Kato
>mid-end
Starfield (2)
>low-end
Aria (2)
>uitrabudget
Chu (2)
>how it happened
Starfield spawned from KXXS as its lower cost version, then Starfield spawned its cheaper version Aria and this leads us to Chu
>impact on moondrop products and others e.g. truthear
all of them break nowadays, including expensive ones such as Darksaber, and yet they continue to sell like hot cakes
tl;dr Kanas Pro paved way to general acceptance of shit that will break in one way or another

KPT iems exhibit the most earbud-like timbre a 1DD iem could ever have, idk why. I'd agree they are pretty good but not better than $100 benchmark of 15yrs ag like anons claim they are. maybe long forgotten pos like se215, gr07, re400(soundmagic e80 too but i'd actually take that over kpt) but ba offerings like addiem, hf5 would run circles around these when decrippled.

you probably wouldn't actually prefer e80
>>
Buying an IEM based on graphs is even worse than looking for something that "just sounds good". IEMs can and often do sound bad despite having good graphs. Find IEMs that are comfortable and just EQ, otherwise you'll end up like sharur.

There are IEMs well-suited to all-around professional use that don't sound like ass, such as Truthear Hexa.
Its single-vent structure gives you the best noise isolation you can expect from an IEM with a dynamic driver for bass and a generous room curve, while its tonality is excellently aligned with diffuse field targets including the current standard, JM-1.
>>
>>101397244
i prefer to have 2 iem's that i can switch around. curently looking for a second pair
>>
bros I lost my MDR EX15P...

so I bought another pair today :)
>>
>>101397273
Hexa will break from one day of stage use.
>a dynamic driver for bass
Who's gonna tell him.
>>
>>101397226
I remember them having more resolving mids than the competition but yea it's been a long long time, I could be totally off base on E80 being acceptably decent in today's standards of dirt cheap pos. I still stand by rest of what I said tho
>>
>>101397296
unless you get them with the infamous unsoldered BAs they should serve you for a long time, the bulid quality is very solid
>>
>>101397343
Truthear is former moondrop engineers. They know how to make shit that breaks.

just buy a well implemented diy er4b like yu9 and follow the picrel chart.(while ignoring horrible diy coupler measurement as it's for ref only) keep your earussy happy and full.

didnt like the zero red im selling my pair. too bassy, like all i can hear is thumps

can i get a recommendation

i really like my headphones (he400se) but i think they could use some extra bit of warmth so i eq around 30-125 hz by a few db (like 3) and 125-300 by 1.5-2

i see the simgots are very shilled everywhere like the greatest thing ever but idk about a bright signature
>>
>>101397452
Reds are extremely sensitive to the output impedance of the source, if you're just plugging them into your mobo you probably aren't getting the intended sound. I'd still return them though, cringe collabs not welcome.
>>
>>101397490
>you're just plugging them into your mobo you probably aren't getting the intended sound
exactly what im doing i got a laptop

getting ka11 in some days somehow i ordered these reds off aliexpress 4 days after and they arrived yesterday

i'll hold off the sale until i get that ka11 and i'll check back. still would like to know other more warm V alternatives

Just use EQ, don't buy another pair just for a different sound, especially if your current ones are comfortable. If you really want to try something else, get the Truthear Gates. They are cheap, are not bass-heavy, and come with a good cable.
