Brehs, Pc just restarted on its own with a distinct click on the PSU. It's been stuck on a bootloop since, with the PSU click each time.

Could my PSU be dying or is it something else triggering the PSU protection?

Yes sorry the drive cage is not the way to go. You'd want to use the HDD tray kit(s) in "storage layout". Found this pic with a rad and T30s up front so there should be plenty of room. Obviously the drive itself will block some airflow but that's unavoidable.
If you /only/ need 3x HDDs maximum then I think you could put a multibracket on top of the PSU shroud. Best for airflow but you said "at least" so I'm assuming there will be more drives added in future.
One caveat - if your 3090 is a particularly large model then you may want to go up to a full tower.

Is be quiet! Shadow Base 800 FX a good case?
>>
Asus prime AP201 vs Lian Li A3, any thoughts?
seems to me that A3 is extremely compatible with most parts, considerind the very small size for what it is, but the cooling, especially fully on air, seems to be compromised by using botton to top air path with fully closed front
I think I prefer the ap201, even it it's bigger by volume, basically the same footprint, not small enough to put either of them on the desktop, but a3 has the front panel connectors on the bottom
why the fuck do they make these supposedly "small" cases so fucking long instead of tall, do they not fucking realize that table space is valuable for people
I'd fuck with the thermaltake tower shit if they made a proper one and not shitty connectors placement with glass all around

Possibly. TPU did their testing and found it and the Lancool III within 2C of each other, noise normalized in both CPU/GPU load temps. Living up to its name, it's about the same noise as the Lancool at full tilt, but 3db quieter at idle.

1: Standard advice - clear space, no carpet, take your time, RTFM.
Watch a detailed build video and follow along. This is what I used last but I'm sure there's something more recent out there if you care to look (not that much has changed). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5jFXl0GZJo

2: Everything should be included. Be aware that some components will be in "odd" places eg. M.2 screws in the mobo box. You will need a Phillips head driver. Ideally both PH1 and PH2.

3: It's compatible with Windows 10 but I can't speak to LTSC CCP ACAB Edition or whatever. If not, it'll be because of a M$ lockout; not by nature.

Check the mobo bios and flash the latest one if it isn't currently installed. The fun part is (iirc from skimming the documentation) LiveMixer can do it without the cpu installed if you really wanted to.

Nice build Anon.
>1. Any recommendations or advice about the building itself, set-up, or anything relevant? First time assembling my own.
Watch these (@ 1.5x) Step-by-Step Primer Guides:
Short ver: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkr07CutHrU
Long ver: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1fxZ-VWs2U

THEN
Watch these guides for what to do AFTER everything is put together (again you can watch @1.5x or 2x speed):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SY7iNTMjdrc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhHtHMQygzE&t=61s

For your monitor in particular I always recommend doing using the free online tools and Office Paper Test that will help you dial in fairly accurate colors and neutral whitepoint for your shiny new display like shown here (won't be perfect, but better than stock):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avJTz1JhkR4&pp=ygUmY2FsaWJyYXRlIG1vbml0b3Igd2l0aG91dCBjb2xvcmltZXRlciA%3D

>2. Anything else worth buying (as in, besides mouse, keyboard, peripherals) that might be helpful? Like cables, covers, etc.
If money's burning a hole in your pocket then I'd suggest a pair of good pair of headphones, a cheap USB DAC and Amp for sound setup. Consult /hpg/ >>101404491
Also if you find your monitor's ergonomics lacking you can get a cheap gas spring VESA-mount monitor arm for maximum flexibility like this example (€25):
https://www.amazon.de/-/en/wall-Monitor-Holder-Gas-Lift-black/dp/B0CP5Y85GT

>3. Does anyone know if this build is fully compatible with W10 Enterprise IoT LTSC 2021? Or do I -need- to install W11?
It'll work with Win10 fine, the mobo support page lists Win10 drivers:
https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B650%20LiveMixer/Specification.asp#Download
Consult /fwt/ for more info: >>101465548
>>
>>101467796
Get a 5700x3d and update your bios before installing it. You won't need a new mobo or ram.

>>
>>101467861
Nothing major. The video I linked has a sequel detailing what to do on first boot. Enabling XMP/EXPO and confirming the boot order are the main things to do in the BIOS. Check the revision while you're in there - just make sure it's reasonably recent i.e. you didn't get old stock.

EU user seeking advice on optimal airflow PC case

Looking for recommendations on a PC case with efficient dust prevention:

Seeking positive air pressure setup
Prefer configuration: 2 big front fans or 3 smaller frontal, 1 rear fan or so
Standard tower size for best airflow
Budget: 100-160 EUR
Prioritizing functionality over aesthetics
Prefer darker colors, not white

Main concerns:

Effective dust prevention
Good airflow
Reasonable noise levels

Not particular about brands, just need a cost-effective solution that meets these criteria. Any advice on specific models or general tips for selecting a case with these features would be appreciated.

It is just an i/o shield/retention bracket. How did it come off? Those things are normally screwed in so the damage to tear it off would be catastrophic and if it just rattled loose just screw it back on. Option B I guess would just find/make something to prop the card up to stop it pulling all of its weight from the pcie slot.

I just realized GPUs point downwards when mounted horizontally. Why? Can't you mount it upside down so the fans point towards the ceiling, helping it cool down much more, with the CPU cooler and case fans helping the hot air evacuate faster?

GPUs pull cold air to cool itself, the coldest air residing at the bottom of your case, while releasing heat from its sides. Mounted like this the GPU is also isolated from the heat-producing CPU. Last but not least, you can't mount it backwards because the PCI slot works one way only, and if you try to force it you'll break it.

How much do I have to spend to get a good OLED monitor?
>>
>>101468326
>>101468344
Okay. Here's a jumping off point for your locally available modern cases (with Type C front USB connectivity) in your budget (apparently ~800 RON is equivalent to €160):
https://ro.pcpartpicker.com/products/case/#X=0,82531&D=16,4,8&sort=price&f=2&page=1

You'll want to take a close look at each and see how many fans that come preinstalled to meet your requirements and importantly if a removable front panel dust filter is included. Of those the ones that stick out to me are the:
be quiet! Pure Base 500DX (need to reposition the 2nd top intake to the front)
NZXT H7 or H5 Flow RGB (not the vanilla H5 that only has 2 fans preinstalled)
ENDORFY Arx 700 ARGB
and Fractal Design Meshify 2 Compact.

Possibly the Deepcool CH560 too if you find a good deal for it.
Check individual reviews for them.

>>
>>101469010
>>101468326
Lancool 216 is the go-to imo, it's 95€ in Romania. Its 2x160 1x140 fans are enough for most users so you don't need to buy any more case fans.
>>
>>101469009
>>101469024
About $720 for a good QD-OLED (360Hz):
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/TfQKHx/msi-mag-271qpx-qd-oled-265-2560-x-1440-360-hz-monitor-mag-271qpx-qd-oled

There are cheaper 27" OLEDs but they are based on older/less-good 240Hz WOLED panels that have worse color volume and matte coatings that ruin contrast and clarity. The latter is especially bad as 1440p OLEDs already have issues with color fringing on text which is why I typically recommend the 4K 32" models instead for around $1000 which isn't much more than the smaller lower-PPI 1440p SKUs.
>>
Does anyone here know a source where *ALL* major RTX cards, preferrably 4070 (Super), are compared including metrics like PCI powerdraw?
So far I have only found Igorslab to measure it but they only did so for very few cards.
Why does it matter? Some aftermarket cards are at the limit and potentially exceed specs e.g., KFA/Galax.

Yeah, this ain't it chief. With that money you can buy two good LCD monitors, one VA one IPS, and they'll serve you much better.
>>

Thanks, should've mentioned I'm in EU as well. Sorry, the heat is getting to me. I have a 27" IPS that I want to keep for work/text display because I do use my monitor a lot for that. The OLED would be strictly for vidya/video content. I much prefer 1440p to 4K for performance reasons.
>>
>>101469280

Depends. Some people are introduced to vidya as children/adolescents and because it's an activity where you can achieve success and be rewarded for comparatively little effort, it's easy to get sucked into it. Add to that a proclivity towards being shy or finding social interaction difficult, or even something like being on the spectrum, and well, you're almost guaranteed to spend your developmental years playing vidya and not building the skills that allow you to be successful with girls.

Other major consideration is the Lancool supports 4x3.5" HDDs, while the other two only support up to 2.

I have some old shitass HP Pavilion with an I7-8700 CPU and 6GB GTX 1060. It's unupgradeable since it has a proprietary PSU, case and mobo where nothing fits. I have a spare PC case and 580W PSU lying around, is the processor still good enough to shell out a couple quid for a standard mobo and some newer entry level GPU like RX 6600 to extend its use as second machine? VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION

Are SSDs safe to buy from the grey market? Vendor says it's new, with the unopened box and everything. I'm pretty sure there's ways to tamper with the box, so I cannot trust what the sticks says, so I have to open it in his presence. Is there a way to check if the SSD is genuine then? And even if everything is fine, how rare are defective/suboptimal SSDs? Specifically a Samsung 990 Pro.

Just update your BIOS and then set the CPU profile to "Intel recommended limits" or whatever. You'll lose 20-40% of the max perfomance based on the particular game, but it won't crash anymore.

I don't think RT will stay a meme forever. When Nvidia is this dominant in marketshare for such a long period of time they are going to have their way eventually by shoving it into more and more games.
>>
>>101475691
RT was always going to eventually take over - this has been known for 30 years. The problem is today is not that day and while what we have now is all kinds of insane from a computing perspective that isn't particularly relevant to the end user who is just looking at their games and going "yeah looks nicer but my framerate being a quarter of what it was is not worth it". I could see within 5-6 years the big games being made with RT in mind and traditional methods of lighting being fallback mode but it is likely a good 10 years until RT is just how games are made. Consider not only the hardware side but the amount of work that has to be done with software and developers learning the tools.
>>

>>
>>101475913
>I could see within 5-6 years the big games being made with RT in mind
Try even less. The new ratchet and clank game (from 3 years ago) somehow is able to run at 60fps 1080p with full RT reflections and lighting. The game technically has a mode that disables RT and renders at 4k50fps but there is no reason to not just use RT whether you want 60fps or 4k.

I think we'll see a lot more games be built with RT in mind when even console games can run it at 60fps.

>people larping like electronics don't have a life span or if it's even relevant.
Even if lots of people will throw away a monitor after 3 years, what other people don't want normalized is an engineering focus on making products last only as necessary.
People are going to want to hand down their electronics, sell it or put to reuse elsewhere. Or maybe someone's upgrade cycle just isn't as short as yours.
>>
>>101476951
It's alright. The only demanding games we get on PC are console ports, these days. Plus these RTX cards are way more powerful with the Supers cheaper than the OG 4000 series non Super cards. Whatever you get at a 4070 Super or above, it'll practically last forever.

>Are these needed for all GPUs now, or only the 4090 due its size/weight?
it is purely for the big chungus gpus. If you want to believe the rumours the 4090 was specced as a 500w card and coolers were built to handle that only for nvidia to revise the power limit fairly late and everyone just went "fuck it, we've got the design, ship it". Not many gpus beyond the 4080 and 4090 are so massive though I think the nitro 7900xtx comes pretty close.

Always better to turn whatever resolution you can run into a higher resolution with DLSS. 1080p DLAA doesn't look as good as 1440p DLSS Quality, and they cost the same in terms of performance. 1440p monitors are also dirt cheap these days, and you can even get one with passable HDR for under $300 if you're in the USA

>>101476550
Not worth spending your money on a 1080p monitor unless you have some specific esports use for it, and in that case you'd already know what you're buying.

You seem confused. DLSS is reconstruction technology. 1440p DLSS Quality has an input resolution of 960p (IIRC), but it looks substantially better than 1080p full resolution. The performance cost is also similar. Study the image I posted previously and maybe you'll understand

Most demanding games support DLSS. Almost 100% of new Unreal Engine games support DLSS, and that's by far the most commonly used engine

NTA but that's terrible advice. I've built entire PCs out of second-hand components and saved thousands of dollars, and I can count on just one hand how many scams I ran into, and I'm talking minor stuff, a few hidden flaws of the components, not broken or fake ones. As long as you follow common sense (does the vendor have good ratings, age of the account, what else does he sell, is he hesitant with basic questions you send him, etc.) you're unlikely to get duped.

Best option is still and will always be testing before buying if the vendor is in your area and accepts that; with an SSD it's not even a hassle to do, but I can understand vendors not allowing strangers into their homes.

Thermalright's heatsinks like the HR10 sit right on top of the controller chip and NAND memory chip, and you have 4 screws ensuring contact, so the temps are exceptional. You're not gonna gain accessibility with it or any other heatsink; if you want to be able to quickly pop it out and in at all costs, no heatsink is your only option.
>>
>>101481590

Right now I'd recommend the usual AM4 upgrade path of the 5*00X3D, 32GB RAM, and the best card that fits your budget. Leave it much longer, however, and it could be better to replace the system wholesale.
>>
>>101482126
What >>101482145 said, but the price om 5800X3D has really skyrocketed recently to unreasonable levels so if you can't find a good deal on one consider the 5700X3D (especially off Aliexpress) which gets you most of the perf. Make sure your BIOS is completely up to date first before upgrading the CPU.

With only a 2x8GB setup you might also want to throw some extra RAM in the other 2 DIMM slots later for edged cases as HUB showed recently (or just replace them with a 2x16GB kit and keep the 8GB DIMMs as spares if the motherboard decides it doesn't like having all slots filled, they can be fussy about that sometimes):

It's 43.8 mm, but you usually can't install it with most fans from my experience, DH15 defintely won't fit on its width, so you gotta move it to a secondary or tertiary M.2 slot.
>Why wouldn't a double sided heatsink work?
If you meant just removing it with the heatsink on it, then my bad, I misunderstood the question. That's no problem, it's one screw to unscrew, only an issue if you want pull out the drive too.

I'm honestly not sure. I tried to figure that out myself before pulling the trigger. I pretty much looked at everything in the 90-120$ range for 1080p monitors. Everything I found either was no-name chinkshit brand or had some kind of problem in the reviews. People were saying good things about the MSI in the reviews, both on Amazon and Microcenter's page. I looked at some of the video reviews, and it looked like the best option in that price range compared to some of the other stuff out there.

The other monitor I was looking at was the KOORUI 24E3. I've read that KOORUI makes panels for other, bigger, well-known companies. The reviews looked pretty good both on youtube and the review sites. But the thing that just ended up putting me off was the no-name brand. It probably would have been fine, but those upper capital chink brands on Amazon usually just give me bad juju for some reason, so I just ended up ordering the G244F E2 because had equal-better specs for a lower price.

If anyone has any other comments about the G244F E2, I'd love to hear them

Or go the expensive route with an OLED for $$$ - $$$$. The area in-between is a wasteland.

>>101484183
>There are monitors with the exact same specs, better outer design/materials and factory calibration for less money.
Other examples? Besides the AsRock everything else is either the same price without reviews or more expensive.

Awww shit here we go.

Upgrade GPU (3060 to 4070 Super) or upgrade monitor (32'' LG Ultragear 1080p to 32'' Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 4K)?
>>
>>101484474
>Other examples?
The mi 2k one from Xiaomi. Tests are good, and it's cheaper. That's why I'm asking if there is something that is not reflected in the raw specs, because otherwise that offers a lot more for less money.

Where would be a more appropriate place to ask for headset recommendations, here or /hpg/? I feel like /hpg/ is gonna give me the "just buy a good pair of cans and a separate mic, bro". I do not want that. I want a headset.
>>
>>101484560
Get a good pair of speakers, who are you going to talk to anyway?
>>
>>101484403

monitor
that's a nobrainer
you use 100% of your monitor 100% of the time but you almost never use 100% of your gpu

>Xiaomi Mi 2K
Not seeing it for sale in the US (except a listing on Ebay for over $500 is near OLED territory).
>>
>>101484597
What the fuck. On the official site in the eu it's about 300. Nevermind then.
>>
>>101484560
>feel like /hpg/ is gonna give me the "just buy a good pair of cans and a separate mic, bro
They're right tho bro. A headset is a jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none. For the money you'd spend on a premium headset a separate pair of HPs and a mic will you better audio quality recording & receiving.

just finished my first build ever (5700x3d + RX7600)
I wonder, any reason I should install Win 11 over Win 10 LTSC?
Will I miss any feature or driver by going with 10 over 11?

>>101484620
I literally do not care. I want headphones with a mic. I want it to sound good enough for the money, which right now my Sennheiser PC37X's have been doing wonderfully for the last several years with. The only people hearing me are going to be my friends. I do not need to hear whatever audiophiles are pursuing and I have no delusions of becoming a content creator so I do not need people to hear my every glottal stop or saliva click in crystal clear quality. I just need to hear and be heard well enough.
>>
>>101484670
I went back to win10 ~2 month ago and came back ~1 month ago because of driver issues
>>
>>101484689
Just get the cheapest USB mic from amazon

I've been using my 3060 with DLDSR and looks miles better in 1080p (native 1080p sucks in some games), but I've heard that DLDSR doesn't compare to native 4k, I really really want to try 4K but I'm worried about the performance hit, I don't think my 3060 will be enough and I won't have the money to upgrade my GPU for another 6-7 months
>>
>>101484695
what exactly?
>>
>>101484689
In that case, I really don't know if the PC37X has been majorly improved on now.
You can read this (current best tested model is the PC38X): https://www.rtings.com/headphones/reviews/best/by-usage/gaming

rx570 crashing

Just go for the win 10 ltsc. That's what I was using too. Should issues arise you can just upgrade to win11 in a matter of minutes without needing to reinstall.

>>101484689
a headphone mic will never sound as good as a standalone mic due to how cost-cutting
You can grab a decent lavosier mic for really cheap and just clip it to your headphone. It will sound 100x better than most headphone mics.
That's the recommended /hpg/ way since eons ago and it is still valid to this day
>>
>>101484749
What? I thought that W11 LTSC release from months ago was some chink forgery?

Yeah, 38X seems like the logical conclusion.

I tried the "nice cans and cheap mic" meme long ago and hated it. The highly recommended mic sounded like tinny shit and the headphones weren't anything special.
>>
>>101484778
That was a Chinese leak of 24H2 before it hit the public. Since then 24H2 has already been deployed to OEMs and release preview. Global rollout is September/October.
>>
>>101484794
>The highly recommended mic sounded like tinny shit and the headphones weren't anything special.
should've bought better ones then
doesn't change the fact that the "nice cans and cheap mic" meme is better than buying a headset with a crappy mic

Rate and hate. I’m buying today so let me know if you see something wrong.

You don’t have to read this part but it explains some stuff. I’m spending a little extra to future proof the mobo and psu for peace of mind in case I want to upgrade gpu or cpu next year. And hopefully avoid the problems the cheaper b650 boards have. The cpu comes with a free ssd I’ll probably just sell, 1tb is enough for me. Uhhh the ssd was the cheapest with an sdram, and the gpu was a prime day deal. Monitor is 1440p 144 currently
>>
>>101484894
I would not go higher than the 7900 GRE (maybe XT if a good deal) or 4070 Super.
>>
Is the intel instability for all of 14th gen? I bought a 14700k last black friday and am running it stock on a freedom respecting OS and haven't experienced any issues.

Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE or Peerless Assassin?

0. The 9000 series Zen 5 chips are literally launching in two weeks. It's EXTREMELY dumb to buy 7000 series at this last moment.

1. You don't live within driving distance of a MicroCenter I assume?

2. Nice deal on the GPU

3. DRAM isn't important for NVME drives these days as HMB has pretty much reached parity with it as a pseudo-cache at the cost of using a small amount of system RAM. For a 50% increase in price you can double the capacity of that drive with this 2TB model which gives you breathing room for all the bloated apps/games that come out these days:
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Dpgrxr/leven-jps600-2-tb-m2-2280-pcie-30-x4-nvme-solid-state-drive-jps600-2tb

Alternatively, this 1TB model is $10 cheaper (the difference in speed between PCIe 3.0 & 4.0 drives is neglible in real world applications if you aren't running a datacenter):
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/wGXV3C/leven-jps600-1-tb-m2-2280-pcie-30-x4-nvme-solid-state-drive-jps600-1tb

4. The dirty secret is that even the 4090 barely exceeds 340W in gaming, meaning you could get away with it in a 750W based system. It's fine to be conservative with the PSU but this 850W Super Flower Gold unit is $25 less and plenty for 99% of what you could want to add onto the system in the future:

PS 120 SE (while not as good as the regular PS 120) is better than the PA. That said both are good coolers so if there isn't a huge price gap get the PS 120 SE, and if there is (like more than $10-15) just get the PA.

Thanks for the reply. So the thing about zen 5 is I’ve seen rumors the 9600x will be $230 all the way to $300. I was covering my bases getting a 7600X at a pretty nice price of $175 + a free ssd. Although if it turns out the 9600x is actually only $230 I will return it and get that.
No microcenter

Okay. Also as far as Mobo features go what were you looking for in particular (did you need WiFi, # of USB ports, etc?)?
The ProRS Wifi seems pretty much comparable to the Riptide except lacking a USB 3.2 2x2 Header (still has a USB 3.2 Gen 2 header) and a less beefy VRM but still plenty sufficient in testing for $35 less:

Sapphire variant, base model. Really enjoying it since I am 1080p mostly and it will max everything out for the most part at the resolution
