Tanchjim seems to be a sub brand of Moondrop. There is no official information about that, but an employee of the Japanese subsidiary told me that Moondrop, Tanchjim, and CHIKYU-SEKAI are all the same company.
>>
>>101510262
Tanchjim is most probably not a sub brand, but they are really close collaborators. Looking at their history, it wouldn't make much sense for having a sub brand in this manner, and small differences in their product release cycle, media coverage, and products make me think that they are similar only because of their extensive time and place in the market.

they seem to just. put them on top of a dvd player or something?

Like, i'd understand if there was some sort of input somewhere maybe the metal would mess with the signal in a good way if you peeled the jack's wire and passed it through that

but no, they seem to just put them over the plastic of a player like a decor, there is no input anywhere

I have an EQ question. When I apply an EQ preset to my pos it will get appended to its natural FR right? Shouldn't I make my pos neutral first? it make sense to adjust the EQ preset by adding/subtracting the pos frequencies from the preset so that pos becomes a neutral iem first right?

>>
>>101515109
>When I apply an EQ preset to my pos it will get appended to its natural FR right
Yes, the changes apply to the stock FR
>Shouldn't I make my pos neutral first?
Depends entirely on your goals, but usually no. You simply change the stock FR until you reach your desired FR
Also, "neutral" is much more complicated than it seems.

>>
>>101515152
I think you're confused about FR. There is no such thing as "natural FR", only FR (in this context referring to FR at the eardrum).
Any changes done to the IEMs (eg driver types, driver specs, air volumes, filters, etc) will affect the FR of the IEM; they are parameters that the engineer can use to tune and get their desired FR.
EQ is essentially one such parameter, albeit significantly more powerful, and reversible (not "hardcoded").

Pretty much, although it is oversimplified quite a bit. All that matters for the user (ie you) is the measured FR, whether it be stock FR or post-EQ FR.
There are certain factors that make FR a non-static measurement, but that's more complicated.

No need to buy anything, you need to equalize them. You can either simply use a lowshelf filter at 100 Hz and raise it a couple db, or try using a peaking filter at 8 kHz, q=4, -4 dB, to attenuate ear canal resonances. That should make the bass more prominent and lead to a more pleasant sound.

I recently misplaced and lost my pair of Truthear Holas. They were decent, though a bit outside my preferred frequency response. Definitely a good deal for the price (great accessories), and I was thinking of buying another pair, but it seems that they were discontinued. Unfortunate.
My choice of headphones for daily drivers are Sennheiser HD 600s, if that helps.

The EPZ Q1 Pros seem to be the most suitable ones on the list. Any thoughts on that?
>>
>>101519451
Truthear Gate are the Hola's successor. They are not bad, but I cannot compare them the Hola, since I don't have them. They say Gate sounds not as warm as Hola, so considering your frequency response preference you may prefer the Gate.

The cloth cable is unusual and frictiony, and the longer nozzle rapes your earussy, but the main weakness of the Truthear Nova is an anemic choice of DD and a lack of a techs bump above 10kHz unlike the Xenns Top or the Simgot Supermix.

It's ok for those things, and applicable for gaming, but for music, the real challenge is having good techs for a wide bandwidth signal with everything mixed up.

What I mean to say is, testing with a recording like this could be misleading for iems with unusual frequency response like Campfire Trifecta.

lol, lmao even
they are not in the slightest, they're the dumbest consoomers out there, perfect targets for greedy corporations to keep selling them extremely shitty products every time batteries of the previous one die, the reason those retards keep buying that shit is because others do, that's why kickstarting airpods with ad campaign worth big millions of dollars and watching people parroting each other was enough to make a product that would otherwise be a big flop successful, especially since apple is behind airpods and other companies tend to do what apple do
it's all about letting others think for you, ads and conformity do a brilliant job with that and it's exactly working people from richer countries that are especially susceptible to it, as their common cope is that a working person doesn't have time for researching what's good and what's not, while big city lifestyle and high earnings make one think that prestige and convenience are much more important that longevity of products or freedom/independence from FAGMAN corp.

>>
>>101525948
Very valid and something I've been pondering. Ultimately, I went with a denser guide since I wanted it to be a sort of reference.
I hope the warning is enough to dissuade people from wasting time, and I might move a few sections around to make it easier to find relevant parts for each reader.

>>
>>101526142
"Good" use? Shure kse1200 is the most sane implementation of estats in IEMs, it comes with its own portable amp. Stax IEMs are terrible. EST modules are just glorified BA tweeters.

Like anon says, the Sonion "EST"s used in most IEMs are basically just overpriced tweeters. I like Letshuoer EJ07 and Thieaudio Monarch MKIII. Hisenior Mega5EST and I/O Volare are probably decent too. Note that these shells get fairly chonky. Full-range electrostatics are paired with their own amps, and are arguably mid / poorly tuned. Stop chasing dumb tech, lrn2read graphs, pick one that aligns to your preferences.
>>
>>101525763
Personally I think all this spatial stuff is doomed, a speaker with any FR will sound outside of your head, even if you plug one of your ears, but the same speaker will sound in your head if you listen to it in an anechoic chamber. All the heavy lifting is done by the reflections. But you have to be aware of what room you're in for the reflections to work. The overall tonality has minimal impact, but maybe the effect of hrtf on the reflections matters.
>>
>>101526519
That's to be expected. Really the only way to have actual proper spatial audio is to roughly match HRTF, and then add the relevant cues that are missing from the regular listening experience with IEMs.
The matching to one's HRTF I'm not expecting to be ideal, and some studies have shown mixed results when comparing localization strength using personal and general HRTFs, so that's likely secondary to the need of said cues and more.
>>
>>101526519
>>101526552
Yeah spatial stuff is a job for DSP, the FR needs to vary with the signal with an analysis of the L+R and other channels. One of these days, crinacle may add DSP to an iem equivalent to dolby audio or whatever.

So that's what those weird inductors are for in expensive iems....
>>
>>101526608
Of course it can only be done with DSP, but what I'm saying is that DSP must recreate the room you're currently in somehow. 90% of the effect of shit like dolby/hesuvi is from the reverb, but it's not correct reverb, the brain can't figure out where you are.
>>
>>101524701
I am uncomfortable.
>>
>>101526707
It's your unknown HRTF and other factors that screw things up and make dolby audio sound wrong. As for the room, it can be a virtual room. You can get software dsp, it lets you choose "concert hall", "venue", "large room", "small room" and so on.

Please ruin my opinion about tanchjim kara. I'm about to pull the trigger, but looking at the reviews again they're really conflicting. Also preferrably something that can be shipped from within europe, so I don't need to fuck around with customs.
>>
>>101534064
>What iem do you want to compare to?
The tuning is not new at all, it's Harman like Moondrop Variations or Truthear Nova. It tries to sound like speakers in a large room.

The best thing about Supermix 4 is probably the planar and the PZT tweeters which have higher linearity (that means response to very small signals) than BAs and seem to boost microdetails.

>>
>>101534278
I think the Supermix 4 is safer if you have that mindset. It's FR is smoother and techs are one class higher, so you can EQ it to what you like with great results. Kara slightly lacks treble extension. The main reason to prefer the Kara would be if you like the mid-bass bump and you're not going to EQ (the latter makes no sense).

I already have a dedicated room for anime figures. Just trying to decorate my 'tech room' with more things. Keyboards, controllers, headphones and other tech related equipment.

you don't have IEMs and ywnbaw.

That's too pathetic, just improve your workstation if you must, like get a better desk and chair, and hide away the hardware. You don't want to look like you just came from reddit or whatever.

I already spent thousands of dollars on my desks and chair. The room looks so boring when there's nothing in my walls.

Humn, well minimalism is the male standard for decor. I just have colored walls, a picture of the Saturn V rocket, and a marble statue of Athena in my office. Maybe you can get a Japanese room divider or something, put that near a wall.

why isn't chifi copying 64 audio apex modules? too complex?

Not much point when a regular vent already equalizes pressure. Controlling isolation is a niche requirement.

Hisenior is starting to do them, IEMs like LZ A4 Pro feature swappable back vents. Tanchim 4U dial is something similar. It's not some novel trademarked sekrit tech, it's just adjusting rear ventilation of the DD, leading to altered bass response. Switches also offer adjustment which KZ of all brands has reasonably implemented. Switches are arguably superior to physical swaps you have to store, keep around, and fiddle with any time you want to adjust.

Nice guide, desu. I was going to write something similar but without such clear structure and in the form of advices.

Thanks! If there's anything you feel is missing or needs modifying, let me know and I'll go over it.
The guide is still very much in an editing phase right now, so there will be a lot of changes as I get more feedback.

unironically a fishing tackle box will do (and probably cheaper)

Apex adjusts the front vent, not rear vent. Anyways all of these memes are inferior to software PEQ so there's really no point apart from changing isolation, which is very very niche.
