I tag everything. Sic supports tags too, but you can also go into folder tree.

This is very useful for multi-artist albums such as soundtracks, sometimes it's easier to jump to the folders and play.

I want to browse by the tag album artist, not just artist, and most players don't let you do that.
Also, a lot of players poorly manage multi-artist tracks and multi-disc albums
For those players, browsing by directory is still a better solution

Musicolet does that and it looks much better. Use version 5.1.1, it is the most complete and the covers are seen without a frame as in later versions

I like AIMP but it doesn't work too well with Android Auto. You can skip tracks and change the volume and all that but you can't select folders or even albums or anything (as far as I can see)
Is Android Auto just bad or does AIMP lack good integration with the API?
>>
>>101564389
youtube, I download them as ogg opus with the highest quality (usually ~130) using yt-dlp. then I sync the files from my server to my phone using rsync.

thumbnail embedding sadly doesn't work for some reason, but that doesn't really matter to me.

this is the command I use:
yt-dlp "$1" --progress -f 'ba[ext=webm][vcodec=none][acodec=opus]' -o '%(track,title)s.%(ext)s' -x --embed-metadata
where "$1" is the url
>>
>>101566026
Thumbnails embed fine for me, they didn't a couple years ago because they were being set as something other than "Front Cover" and that would be lost upon editing the tags in mp3tag
--external-downloader aria2c --ignore-errors --geo-bypass --no-playlist --no-mtime --prefer-ffmpeg --audio-quality 0 --embed-thumbnail --extract-audio --audio-format mp3 --output "D:\Downloads\`%(title)s.`%(ext)s"
>>
>>101566026
I used yt-dlp too but it's slow and sometimes get 404. I put all my music in a public playlist, at least its convenient even to just stream from newpipe.
About embedded images, i remember them working but taking too much space.
If i embed metadata will $MUSIC_PLAYER sort the music by itself?

if your player supports tags, and properly sorts by tags, then yeah.

if downloaded from newpipe, you'll need to tag the files yourself though

I use free Spotify premium and pipepipe for my music. It would take me forever to build a local music collection because most artists have few good songs and the rest of their music is shit. It's taken me 2 days to put together a 30 track workout playlists. The vast majority of music is trash and it would take weeks deleting everything if I downloaded a ton of albums.
