what's going on with these anyway, are intel sending replacements?
>>
>>101577026
Their i9s are falling at a never before seen rate, estimated to be between 15-25% at the low end to as high as 50-100% when running certain tests.
They are too cheap to do a recall
To get a replacement, you need to contact them yourself, go through their rma process and pray that they don't deny your request
>>
I'd like some advice: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/g2rYvj
I'm buying from Germany, and upgrading/making a new workstation. Primary use will be Blender/CAD, as well as some various multi-core workloads. I don't plan on gaming. The GPU and monitor are transferring over, but as I want to move to an SFF format and also turning the old hardware into a server, I'm buying most of it new.

9950x launches in 2 and a half weeks
I'd suggest waiting until then to pick up a discounted 7950x or the new 9950x
>>
>>101577087
I'd love to wait two and a half weeks, but I would prefer to get this done sooner rather than later. Should I find a cheaper AM5 CPU to hold out until the launch?
>>
>>101577067
As a sidenote, not listed is one NF-A12x15 and one NF-A12x25 fan, to replace the stock fans on the Thermalright AIO. From other builds in the NCASE T1 it seems they're required.
>>
>>101577103
well the new cpus will be faster but they will also be more expensive
the old cpus may drop in price but not significantly
>>
>>101577135
I'm honestly not sure if the small build that I'm planning will have the thermal capacity to take full advantage of such a chip. I was planning on underclocking the 7950x to make it more efficient and fit better into the available thermal envelope available. I plan to put the radiator at the top of the case and use the fans to exhaust through it to draw in new air from the bottom.
>>
I need a new cpu cooler (no aio), and my case allows for a maximum height of 150mm. Should I get something like the NH-C14S or the Dark Rock TF 2 or should I get something like the Peerless Assassin 120 and just leave the side panel open? I guess doing the latter would be better, so that when I'll upgrade my case in the future I won't have a dwarf cooler for no reason
>>
>>101577187
> just leave the side panel open
works if you have no pets, but also allows everything (dust, esd, feet) to get into the computer.

What CPU and case do you have? The usefulness of a CPU cooler is highly dependent on how much heat you have to dissipate, and how much air you have to do it with. Even something low profile can get really decent cooling performance if you get enough fresh air over it.
>>
>>101577187
Also, I have been using the NH-D12L (dual tower, 145mm) for a few years now (even in a pretty small case, the Thermaltake Core G3) and have had no issues with heat whatsoever.

The next gen is going to have the same or better power efficiency. They all boost based on thermal headroom so no power tuning is necessary unless you want efficiency for financial reasons.

I just bought a Racing Sim but I want to put it downstairs, in my living room with my TV.
I also have I have are bunch of pic rel.
My options are:

a.) Streaming WIRELESSLY from my main PC with Steamlink/moonlight (note: my router is also downstairs with my TV)
b.) Upgrade one of pic related so it can MAYBE handle Racing Sims
c.) Buy some cheapo tower PC

>>101577777
Does that apply to a first time build? First time everything is connected together? I've seen some people say 15 mins, some people say more, some say less, I don't know who to believe.
>>
>>101577764
Just to add to the other anon's figure, ~1 minute is average but it can take longer. Don't reboot the system right on the mark - leave it running for at least 5 minutes just in case. Indeed, if you're running 48GB+ you might even want to leave it for 10 minutes before you start troubleshooting because higher capacities take longer to train.
>>
>>101577792
Yes
Taking >2min to boot happens when you run an early 2023 bios

>>
>>101576457
The insane part is intel can't just lower voltage across the board with microcode updates as it will mean some chips won't be able to hit their advertised clocks (or worse, try to and just crash). Getting that 6ghz seemingly needs suicide voltage and I bet this problem will get worse as the chips age and probably on a very quick timescale (say, a couple years) as well.
>>
>>101577956
You can't prove that it won't. It's happened before, and it certainly can happen again.

does this shit affect 13th and 14th gen desktop i5s?

all 13/14th gen are defect by design, its only going to take longer for i5s to start being unstable. Sell your Intel trash now.
>>
>>101578148
Nobody knows yet. The over voltage aspect is unlikely imo as it is seemingly tied to the absurd boost clocks and the i5 chips are clocked lower so they might be safe, or the degradation is on a scale where it is effectively a non-issue. Oxidation could be anything, we just don't know.

Why not the B650E Taichi Lite ? It's half the price and the only differences the X670E has are:
- 1 extra USBC4.0
- 2x PCIE5.0x16 instead of 1x5.0 and 1x 4.0 (not like you need 2 since multi GPU is dead)
- A few more front and rear USB slots but the 650E already has a ton anyway
The Lite just has less rgbshit and I think it's also missing a tiny fan somewhere near the VRMs or on the NVME heatsink

It'll be the same issue for the new AM5 mobos announced recently, I don't think it's worth upgrading to those when the 650E Taichi basically has all the features.

>>101579560
5600g is like 90% 1T, 130% MT, and 200% iGPU, compared to a 12100. so it's worth the $60 if you want that iGPU. you're paying 30% more to get a big jump there and a $1:1 increase in MT. the 1T suffers but not very much.
>>
>>101579679
you're not tired yet. you still have to go through the optimization step. the right curve optimizer for each cpu core. the optimal v/f curve for your gpu. how low or high your soc voltage can go before your memory gives up.

then once you figured all that out you need to find a program to put it all to the test that you actually use on a daily basis. my recommendation is madvr.

Desktop usage is laggy (common with these P+E cpus) and power draw is way up even under light loads which makes my room feel like a sauna while gaming. I suppose this is what multi-GPU gaming feels like since the 13900k pulls gpu amounts of power lol.

OCCT's a top-class app for validating CPU & memory stability.

>>101576981

I really should test my 13700k. But I'll only do it AFTER the August patch. Then I'll probably run a long OCCT test overnight or something.

>>101581267
Don't run anything stressful without an undervolt.
Maybe a 0.05~0.07mV undervolt should protect it from overvolting, but stability's not guaranteed.
Some motherboards allow you to set a Vcore limit, I'd set that at 1.45V or so.

I wonder how much power it can sustain in well ventilated case.
It's clearly designed for rack but as an experiment, too bad AyyMD doesn't allow for arbitrary power limits anymore.
Also it's using the melting connector.
>>
>>101581595
Sure - there isn't anything that inherently makes paste only for cpus or gpus (or anything else really).

>>
>>101581619
I guess it depends on what sort of power limit asrock allow - if they go balls out assuming it will be kept cool by screaming server fans if they went with the sort of power limit the nitro+ from sapphire has that would be a 450w gpu which is some serious juice for a consumer facing die.

you realized that gaymes are nothing more than a effort simulator without any real gains, as a kid this is enough because nothing else is happening and the novelty and bing bang wahooos are enough
as adult, you now always have to compare the effort to benefit ratio of doing said thing, even if just done subconsciously, you realize this fact
in short, gaymes provide no long lasting benefit, no dopamine reward circuit as you realize this, there is nothing to be gained... it's over
unless you play games for money, it's the only way you can justify playing them
but, there is one last thing and that is taking a long as break for like a generation, coming back when some new gaymes release with a fully maxxed out system, nolifing a game for a while and being fully immersed in a new tech and seeing how far things have come during this period could be fun, maybe
also one more thing, new games (most) simply suck ass cock, try playing old ass games that you played ages ago and they might still just be better than everything else, or, this might just be boomer brain and the inability to adapt to new games/wanting to learn new things
that's about it

This is my autism but I like running all fans max speed for a few hours to "break them in" and clean out the new PC smell.

>>
Why do new cpus have so many cores ?

I can choose old cpu with lets say
4x 3ghz efficient
6x 5ghz performance

or new with:
12x 2ghz efficient
12x 3ghz performance

this doesn't even makes sense on paper. It seems that i rather have few decent cores then a dozen shitty who release too much heat anyways. I know newer processors are better by why so ? Especially having lower clock speed. I just feel like i bought 32gb ram just because "to be safe" and the price wasn't that much different but i barely ever use the 1/5 of it at most.
>>
>>101581731
>Why do new cpus have so many cores ?
The tl;dr is need for moar computing outstripped the ability to make each core massively better year-on-year so the only solution is to have more cores and lrn 2 parallel your code.
>>
>>101581682
Do stress tests.
RAM: TestMem5 Extreme1 setting.
GPU: 2-3 runs of 3D Mark (free version is enough) and 4-6 hours of Heaven Benchmark.
CPU: Cinnebench r23 and OCCT CPU test. Run them 1-2 hours.
In this order. I say this as the bare minimum. Run them more times and longer to really test the stability of your PC.

Then start downloading useful programs. Have RGB, use OpenRGB to control it. Have multiple fans, then use FanControl to set up a speed curve.
After that I start adding my stuff back in.
>>
>>101581731
Depends on the workload. low count but high performance is better for gaymin.
High CPU count but low performance is better for workstations and servers.
pick whichever you need.

You can easily flash the BIOS to get high power limit.
I was just thinking how much heat it can dissipate without fan in vertical configuration. That card is very light just under 900g but it's using vapor chamber, the boost clocks on their website are the same as reference model.
In older Linux driver you could set 100W limit without a problem but that got "fixed".
>>
>>101581731
Because Apple butt blasted the entire industry and now they're trying to catch up by forcing this E-core/P-core meme into x86 which it's not meant for, it needs to be ARM. x86 performance potential is higher if you're willing to add more watts but now you're just getting a retard version of ARM. The whole thing is a mess. The only hope is AMD's 3D V-Cache.
>>
>>101581490
>Intel default power settings
It potentially overvolts the CPU AC/DC load line (1.1mOhm) to improve stability near maximum boost frequency.
You do you.
>>
>>101581797
I use it for stability. I can let it loop and leave it running for 10 hours. I believe you can do it in 3D Mark but I think you need the paid version if you want to loop it.
3D Mark for stress test. Uningine Heaven for stability. Both are free.
>>
>>101576717
Why is the 4070 super recommended as a 1080p card? Every benchmark shows it maxes out everything at 1440p 100fps or more
>>
>>101581490

>>
>>101581871
Typo maybe. Should definitely be a 4060 instead. Or maybe the assumption is 1080p MAXXED out settings or even some RTX. A lot of games have retarded ass settings. I mean even a GTX 1080 can play 1080p games perfectly fine today.

>>101581807
P/E cores aren't a meme due to x86 in particular, it's more that using them effectively depends on software being able to schedule work correctly, and until recently heterogeneous CPUs were rare in the x86-software-world. The situation reminds me of when we started to see x86 NUMA deployments, where software that assumed any thread could be scheduled on any core would see worse performance.

The main issue with x86 is that the decoders are huge compared to other architectures for various reasons, one of which is the variable-length instructions. Variable-length instructions increase code density, which is why caching is a comparatively easier way to increase performance than adding more decoders.
>>

>>
>>101581871
1440p should be at MINIMUM 120 FPS. 144 average. If a 4070 super can't reach that then it's not really for 1440p gaming and more suited for max/ultra setting on 1080p.
