>intel unusable>amd buggyThat's it, I'm switching to ViA.
>>101576911just buy a skylake 10000
>>10157693510th gen bros stay winning
>>101576717what's going on with these anyway, are intel sending replacements?
>>101577026Their i9s are falling at a never before seen rate, estimated to be between 15-25% at the low end to as high as 50-100% when running certain tests. They are too cheap to do a recall To get a replacement, you need to contact them yourself, go through their rma process and pray that they don't deny your request
I'd like some advice: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/g2rYvjI'm buying from Germany, and upgrading/making a new workstation. Primary use will be Blender/CAD, as well as some various multi-core workloads. I don't plan on gaming. The GPU and monitor are transferring over, but as I want to move to an SFF format and also turning the old hardware into a server, I'm buying most of it new.
>>1015770679950x launches in 2 and a half weeksI'd suggest waiting until then to pick up a discounted 7950x or the new 9950x
>>101577087I'd love to wait two and a half weeks, but I would prefer to get this done sooner rather than later. Should I find a cheaper AM5 CPU to hold out until the launch?
>>101577067As a sidenote, not listed is one NF-A12x15 and one NF-A12x25 fan, to replace the stock fans on the Thermalright AIO. From other builds in the NCASE T1 it seems they're required.
>>101577103well the new cpus will be faster but they will also be more expensivethe old cpus may drop in price but not significantly
>>101577135I'm honestly not sure if the small build that I'm planning will have the thermal capacity to take full advantage of such a chip. I was planning on underclocking the 7950x to make it more efficient and fit better into the available thermal envelope available. I plan to put the radiator at the top of the case and use the fans to exhaust through it to draw in new air from the bottom.
I need a new cpu cooler (no aio), and my case allows for a maximum height of 150mm. Should I get something like the NH-C14S or the Dark Rock TF 2 or should I get something like the Peerless Assassin 120 and just leave the side panel open? I guess doing the latter would be better, so that when I'll upgrade my case in the future I won't have a dwarf cooler for no reason
>>101577187> just leave the side panel openworks if you have no pets, but also allows everything (dust, esd, feet) to get into the computer. What CPU and case do you have? The usefulness of a CPU cooler is highly dependent on how much heat you have to dissipate, and how much air you have to do it with. Even something low profile can get really decent cooling performance if you get enough fresh air over it.
>>101577187Also, I have been using the NH-D12L (dual tower, 145mm) for a few years now (even in a pretty small case, the Thermaltake Core G3) and have had no issues with heat whatsoever.
>>101576717dont really wanna go to the cesspool that is /v/ so ill ask herewhats a good (value?) wireless pc controller with hall effect sticks? ive had 3 official xbox controllers replaced under warranty because they get that shit ass stick drift and i cbf dealing with it anymoremust be aussie seller (amazon au would be best) since we get better consumer protection in exchange for paying out the ass
>>101577145The next gen is going to have the same or better power efficiency. They all boost based on thermal headroom so no power tuning is necessary unless you want efficiency for financial reasons.
>>101577145The new chips are expected to be priced around the same as ryzen 7000's launch msrp or slightly less, and we know from the anandtech leaker that the 9950x has better performance than the 7950x above 60W of power>https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-ryzen-9-9950x-gets-tested-at-253w-and-unlimited-ppt-settings
>>101577251>>101577245Guess it does make sense to wait then. How easy is it to buy chips straight off launch? Is it typical that they go out of stock quickly or just get marked up a lot?
>>101577277its typical that both those things happen for the first batch
>>101577281So I probably have to wait even longer? :(
>>101577295You could always choose to go 7950x after reviews drop on 14 August
>>101577295if its going to be used for work, just buy it now.this place is full of waitfags who never buy anything or will spend a year waiting for a $20 discount
is this something i should be concerned about? 13700 non-k
>>101577474oops
>>101577485How severe is the throttling and what cooler are you running?
Seriously guys. Can't find any information.Red light near VGA, PC working just fine.MB gigabyte b650m aorus elite axManual only has information about what to do when there is no image or something.Google says nothing except some r*ddit threads where people are complaining without solution. The only problem I found is bad power cable connection and it wasn't the case.
>>101576717kinda off topic but I'll post it anywayI just bought a Racing Sim but I want to put it downstairs, in my living room with my TV. I also have I have are bunch of pic rel.My options are:a.) Streaming WIRELESSLY from my main PC with Steamlink/moonlight (note: my router is also downstairs with my TV)b.) Upgrade one of pic related so it can MAYBE handle Racing Sims c.) Buy some cheapo tower PCI don't need 4k 240hz RTX shit, 120hz 1080p is ideal but I need atleast 60hz.
>>101577474>>101577485since it triggers on only 1 core, probably not
>>101577580take the gpu out and put it back in
>>101577580Install CachyOS

>>101577584buy some cheapo pc that can handle whatever sim you want at whatever res and fps you desire
>>101577584>WIRELESSLYYou need something with a gigabit ethernet port to even consider playing through streaming.
>>101577600Lmao
>>101577683Yeah I know, I have 10 of these fuckers. Plus I have 290x lying around somewhere/
>>101577580https://www.reddit.com/r/gigabyte/comments/162twe9/b650_aorus_elite_ax_red_vga_light_despite_working/Literal first result on jewgle, did you even try
How long does memory training take when you first turn on an AM5 system, and is there anything on screen to indicate it's working? Just so when I turn it on, I know whether the PC is not working, or if I just let it cook.
>>101577580probably the vga light like other anons suggestedweird because your board's leds are located differently than what's shown on gigabyte's website
>>101577764about 45 seconds to 1 minute after a clear cmosno nothing shows on the screenthe only signs of life is the board's boot leds
>>101577103>I'd love to wait two and a half weeks, great, that settles it then
>>101577777Does that apply to a first time build? First time everything is connected together? I've seen some people say 15 mins, some people say more, some say less, I don't know who to believe.
>>101577764Just to add to the other anon's figure, ~1 minute is average but it can take longer. Don't reboot the system right on the mark - leave it running for at least 5 minutes just in case. Indeed, if you're running 48GB+ you might even want to leave it for 10 minutes before you start troubleshooting because higher capacities take longer to train.
>>101577792Yes Taking >2min to boot happens when you run an early 2023 biosMy board came preinstalled with a December 2023 bios and booted within a minute on first boot
Is there a small (6L or so) ITX case that only fits very small GPUs but in exchange can actually fit a decent CPU cooler?
>>101577780>wait two and a half weeks>chips sold out>wait another two weeks>oh boy 150% markup over msrpsounds fun
>>101577926This never happens anymore.
>>101576457The insane part is intel can't just lower voltage across the board with microcode updates as it will mean some chips won't be able to hit their advertised clocks (or worse, try to and just crash). Getting that 6ghz seemingly needs suicide voltage and I bet this problem will get worse as the chips age and probably on a very quick timescale (say, a couple years) as well.
>>101577956You can't prove that it won't. It's happened before, and it certainly can happen again.
>>101577026>>101577063>overvoltage>oxidationdoes this shit affect 13th and 14th gen desktop i5s?
>>101578148all 13/14th gen are defect by design, its only going to take longer for i5s to start being unstable. Sell your Intel trash now.
>>101578148Nobody knows yet. The over voltage aspect is unlikely imo as it is seemingly tied to the absurd boost clocks and the i5 chips are clocked lower so they might be safe, or the degradation is on a scale where it is effectively a non-issue. Oxidation could be anything, we just don't know.
>>101578148Every single 13 and 14 gen.
Is this gonna be an issue or is the mobo 5000 ready?
>>101578231would undervolting and disabling race to halt help? I vaguely remember that this setting causes voltage and clock spikes to finish execution faster so that the cpu can enter a lower power state and save energy
>>101578272Depends on when it was manufactured.
>>101577580Why the fuck do people still buy Gigabyte and Asus? They are the worst brands on the market along MSI and Zotac.
>>101578218>>101578252depressing, i should've gotten an ayyymd
>>101578272you need another cpu to pop into it so you can flash the newest bios AFAIK, at least last time I saw a situation like this that's how it was resolved
>>101578287In theory yes but again, reports of failing i5's are extremely low and could just fall into the normal failure rate.
>>101578289>>101578296ShitDoes AMD still do that loaner boot kit thing?
>>101578290Been using gigabyte motherboards and graphic cards for last 17 years and never had an issue with anything. The two asus products on the other hand........
is this a good am5 boardhttps://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X670E%20Taichi/index.pl.asp
>>101578304any board you buy now is going to have a newer bios on thereZen 3 is what 3 years old now?

>>101578340they wanna gauge how goyim react to this and then push it further next time
>>101578320Yeah, it's ridiculously expensive though. I'm not sure it's worth double the price of other am5 boards.
>>101578272those boards, the r2.0, came out 1 year after zen3
My monitor delivery is being delayed for a few days. Can I use my laptop as a monitor for my PC? I have no other monitor to use and my TV doesn't work. I only found guides to duplicate another screen on the laptop, not using it standalone.
>>101578340>redesign the cache system in record time (gotta deal with spectre and meltdown yo)>clock chips to the moon to beat out zen>do about 5 minutes of testing because fuck it, the last design was good and we've used 90% of it>YOLO>what the fuck the chips are failing, how could AMD do this to us!?
>>101578320>>101578358Why not the B650E Taichi Lite ? It's half the price and the only differences the X670E has are:- 1 extra USBC4.0- 2x PCIE5.0x16 instead of 1x5.0 and 1x 4.0 (not like you need 2 since multi GPU is dead)- A few more front and rear USB slots but the 650E already has a ton anywayThe Lite just has less rgbshit and I think it's also missing a tiny fan somewhere near the VRMs or on the NVME heatsinkIt'll be the same issue for the new AM5 mobos announced recently, I don't think it's worth upgrading to those when the 650E Taichi basically has all the features.
>>101578416RDP into it maybe
>>101578340It's what happens when the marketing department drives your technical decisions Cuck cores, muh GHz and pointless yearly refreshes are symptoms of this company wide deficiency

>>101578465Nevermind, I have an old monitor but it uses VGA. Do modern GPUs support that?
>>101578544Not directly, you'll need some hdmi-vga adapter.
>>101578572How much do those cost?
>>101578272If you're buying new just get a newer one if not just update the BIOS?
>>101576717I need an adapter that looks or functions like either of these. Should I go for the cheapest I can find like chinesium, or are there good brands for them?
>>101578712I could wait, it's for the USB slots at the top of the case. There's not enough for cables to connect without bending somewhat, so I'd rather get adapter that make the connection horizontal rather than vertical.
guys all my amd shader stutter went away when i updated my mobo bios. you should do the same. agesa is important as fuck ignore everyone else.
Unrelated, but I want to transfer files worth a few hundreds GBs between my old and new PC. Any open-source software to do that easily?

>>101578823Then you don't want to transfer them, you want to copy them. It's not the same.
