I'll be installing Windows 10 IoT LTSC (2021) on saturday, what (preferably foss) software do you bros use instead of microsoft store apps? I'm not aware of a way to create a filter for a _combination_ of file size and image dimension. 4chan-x isn't that advanced. You'll have to create filters for one or the other. Read the guide in the filter dropdown menu and refer to https://regex101.com/ if you need to practice your regex.
>>
>>101890189
>>101897488
Also if the reason you want a combination is because you're trying to filter specific images, filter the image MD5.
>>
>>101897488
>>101897536
Nah, I was looking to filter specific dimensions under a specific filesize. It says it can support it under the general filters but I can't for the life of me figure it out.
>Types can also be combined with a + sign; this indicates the filter applies to the given fields joined by newlines.
For example: type:filename+filesize+dimensions;.
>>
>>101897575
I think that's for changing the types of fields that a general filter applies to. Normally it's subject, name, file name, and comment. If you wanted 4chan-x to also check the image dimensions and file size fields for a certain rule, it would be something like this:
/your filter here/;type:subject,name,filename,comment,dimensions,filesize
But if you want something like IF dimensions == x AND filesize == Y THEN filter the post, I don't know of a way to do that. Good luck.

Perhaps this is the wrong call, but I'd rather ask here than fucking reddit or something.

I bought a new cheap Lenovo laptop since my old one died, v14, the version with the smaller battery (Because I wanna put my old HDD on it), 12th gen i3 (1215).
But it comes with win11 preinstalled, now, despite mot using it before, I kinda hate the idea of switching to win 11, since I was already used to win 10, and I just dislike switching systems since the jump from win7 to win8 back then, I hate the idea of losing even more control of my own system, with shit like how win10 had you running in circles and fucking with the registry just to disable updates.
I already have a win10 installation USB ready, but I'm having second thoughts since I goggled it and saw some stuff about incompatibility with 12th generation intel CPUs or how win 11 is faster.
Now, as someone who can semi-competently handle a computer, but can't do more complex things like debloating or using anything more difficult than linux mint, is it a good idea to downgrade to win 10 or should I keep the win 11 that comes installed?
Is win 11 worth it in comparison?
Should I just kill myself?

Okay, so I found this ISO: en-us_windows_10_iot_enterprise_ltsc_2021_x64_dvd_257ad90f.iso

And am going to follow these instructions to create a bootable USB (I'm on a Macbook) https://www.pugetsystems.com/support/guides/w11-usb-macos/

That should be it, right? Or do I need to buy a key? Was going to buy one from https://vendafly.com/

All these sounds sound so iffy lol
>>
>>101900561
The best way to make a Windows install USB on Mac is to make it manually via mounting the ISO, formatting a USB as FAT32, copying everything from the ISO to the USB besides the sources folder, copy over everything from said folder except the install.wim, then install wimlib through homebrew (install if you don't have it) and use that to split the install.wim file in two pieces so it fits on the FAT32 USB (one 4GB, one 700MB or so.)
After that, you should be able to unmount the USB and ISO and use it to install Windows without issue.

And how does this in any way, shape, or form affect your privacy? The ClockButton, PeopleButton, StartButton number of interaction/clicks isn't even sent if you set diagnostic data to 0 and disable the connected user experiences and telemetry service. But even if it was sent by default on a W10 Home machine how exactly does it affect you personally whatever your first and last name are, whatever your home address is, whatever your phone number is, whatever your age is, whatever your gender is, whatever your race is, whatever your hair color/texture is, etc. it quite literally has nothing identifiable about you, its just anonymous telemetry for ms to see what features are actually used and what can be scrapped

Are AMD software and AMD graphics drivers different? I can't open my AMD software anymore since I updated it. I ran the AMD's compatibility software, but it shows that I have no AMD software installed. What should I do?
>>
>>101904506
Windows usually ships with generic drivers, then on the first connection to internet it grabs the barebone driver only AMD/NVIDIA stuff for you that's usually a few versions out of date. If you install AMD from their own site to get the latest version you are offered three choices: Driver Only (What you already have but updated), Minimal, Full. Both minimal and full are actually not drivers but the specific Adrenalin Suite software that lets you tinker with your gpu settings and do other shit. I'm assuming you installed windows, updated it, then downloaded the latest amd adrenaline and installed it then got this error? If so you probably picked the wrong GPU on the site
>>
>>101904506
IMO you should probably just DDU your driver and re-install it
>>
>>101904544
I recently updated the AMD driver through Windows Update, along with other updates that I had postponed for months.

>>101904892
What is DDU? Sorry, I'm not very tech-savvy. I googled it and found out that it's used to uninstall display drivers. Will it also affect my NVIDIA driver? Can I uninstall the AMD Adrenalin software through the Control Panel's uninstaller instead? Or... should I just leave it and hope for miracle to happen?

For context, my laptop has an AMD Ryzen 5 8645HS and an RTX 4050. I need the iGPU to save power, so should I leave it as is, or do I need to reinstall the driver?
>>
>>101904506
>>101905827
For igpu laptops you need to grab the driver directly from the laptop maker instead of the amd/nvidia website. the generic gpu driver is for dedicated gpus.
>>
>>101905851
Ah, I see... So next time, I should update the driver through Lenovo Vantage or Lenovo's website rather than through Windows Update. Good to know for the future. Are there any drivers that I should avoid updating via Windows Update?

Also, how should I reinstall the driver? Should I uninstall it using DDU, or is it fine to uninstall it through the Control Panel/Windows app settings?

Is this the correct driver that I should download?

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/gaming-series/loq-15ahp9/downloads/ds567039-amd-vga-driver-for-windows-11-64-bit-loq-15ahp9?category=Graphics%20Card

Yeah you run DDU first (it will ask you reboot in safe mode to do its thing) and after its done and rebooted you install the drivers from lenovo.

basically dont ever touch those. grab directly from manufacturer if you need it.
>>
>>101906034
>Download DDU
>Download the GPU driver installer from your OEM
>Disable your internet then restart into safe mode
>Open DDU and delete your AMD driver and files
>Boot back into normal mode
>Install the OEM GPU driver package
>After it's all installed, reconnect

>>
>>101906234
Nothing should go wrong because all you're doing is removing the graphic driver, which then Windows will default to a basic graphics adapter when you return out of safe mode until you re-install the new driver. You disable the internet beforehand so Windows Update doesn't re-install its own AMD driver.

Since this morning, my Windows 11 computer won't access the internet through my main 6G network (it connects to the network, but cannot reach DHCP server). That said, if I log in to my guest network instead, then the computer it will gladly access the internet.

The thing is, my main network is looks fine, I have several other devices that all connects to it through wifi, none of them has any problems.

>Windows saves desktop icons in the localappdata directory, this does not get backed up via OneDrive backups
>after any wipe ever most icons are just broken/blank and opening the app/shortcut/whatever does not re-add the icon to the desktop
How to fix this? I know it's not a big deal but it just looks ugly as all fuck, dunno why Microsoft would hide the icon locations in a hidden directory like localappdata or whatever else.
This is also ignoring duplicate creations of the same desktop shortcuts, sometimes users have 4 Edge icons alongside like 3 Edge (Work) icons, which I thought Edge (Work) was being discontinued or something so why is this trash even getting placed on the desktop anyway

The site I would recommend gets shat on senselessly here. I'm not trying to be mean, that place blows this one out of the water and out of planetary orbit for a number of reasons. 4chan is just a rather different crowd and fairly mediocre tech support.

All that said, have you tried checking Event Viewer to find out what has broken? Event Viewer is one of your best friends when Windows or some part of it breaks. I myself was frustrated with my Asus A17 slowing to a crawl to use until I figured out that stupid Windows Update fucked up my Radeon Control Panel. Going into Safe Mode to further investigate and run chkdsk/dism/sfc to rule out the issue allowed me to later boot into a normally working Windows. Then I re-installed my Radeon software and voila, fixed properly.

so are there any *actual* differences between IoT and non-IoT outside of update support?
I'm generally fine with 3 years of support so 2027 vs 2032 makes no difference to me
>>
>>101919467
There are differences between each edition, obviously IoT Enterprise and Enterprise are not identical, there'll be some services added or missing, some changes in default settings, some apps added or missing, some requirements added or missing, etc. But for the most part assuming general desktop use like browsing the webs and playing vidya there's no real difference between them, so you'd just be choosing less security updates and no hardware activation if you choose Enterprise over IoT Enterprise. And in general IoT Enterprise targets weak computers, meaning that Microsoft tries to remove all restrictions and make it as small as possible to allow installing on as many appliances as possible, as it's not really intended for normal computers. This means that in versions like W11 it's the only edition that supports installation on old CPUs

These are probably basic bitch questions but I I'm seeing a lot of different answers online and I'm not sure which of them is actually for the problem.
Got my first HDR capable monitor this year, the AOC Q27G3XMN. I wanted something with good blacks and good response time for vidya without risking OLED burn in and it seemed like a good pick despite some small issues like black smearing.
Is there any way to make everything not seem so washed out and awful? I started playing my first game that had to have me turn on Windows HDR and instead of making this better, everything just looks worse, which isn't what I was expecting.
Aside from everything being extremely gray I have a weird bug with MPV. When playing a video things look okay (still washed out) but when I pause a video and either move the window or move my mouse cursor over the window the saturation goes insane, pic related. This has to be a windows hdr problem because it happens even on my second non-hdr monitor.
From searching people say to just fuck with color settings/HDR SDR brightness in Windows HD Color settings/Nvidia control panel color settings but nothing I do counters that general bad looking washed out colors, and I've got not clue what the deal is with MPV.

>>
>>101921404
Just use Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC and you won't have to worry about windows updates causing issues since you will only get security patches. I do suggest getting onto the latest patch though, but it's not as big of a deal as people think. There are a billion vulnerabilities out there on every single OS at all times, but 99% of them are sold to be only executed on targeted specific people/computers.
>>
>>101921437
I'll keep LTSC in mind for the future, but it's too much to reinstall everything on my pc just for this bug, and being 4 years out of date, i'd really rather avoid waiting an entire week just for windows to finish updating everything, so i hope it's possible to only and just install this patch without anything else.
>>
>>101921532
The only thing it'll do is install the latest cumulative update. The monthly updates work in such a way that you don't need to install every monthly update if you're very behind, just the latest cumulative.

Why use KMS instead of HWID and Ohook? Is there a reason?
>>
>>101921641
HWID is objectively the best if you care about permanent activation, but KMS serves it's purpose on editions of windows that don't support HWID activation. OHook is necessary for Office I believe.
>>
>>101921641
It's all a preference of taste, really. HWID is online and gives your install a spot in MS's activation server. KMS lets you activate locally if you want that.
Ohook is for permanently activating Office 2013 and above.

HDR is a disaster on every OS bar maybe macOS since it's tightly integrated with hardware.
>>
>>101921664
HWID literally stands for Hardware Identification, you can activate your PC with MAS HWID once and you never have to run the script ever again no matter how many reinstalls you do as long as you are using the same motherboard. It's completely offline and local. KMS on the otherhand has to be ran every single time you install the PC, it has to create a service on your PC, and in task scheduler you can see warnings and errors as it tries to fool MS into thinking your shit is activated.
>>
>>101921601
we've been stacking new shit on top of old shit for 3 decades now (arguably longer), regardless of what os you're using
new things which are fundamentally incompatible with old things are an absolute pain in the dick to stack
you'd think HDR wouldn't be that hard really, like why can't SDR stuff just be mapped into HDR space? well in a perfect world where you were able to build a system with both in mind from the beginning, that would be easy, but we don't live in a perfect world, SDR is assumed in a good chunk of the system, and you can't change much of it because you need to be able to run old things at the same time as new things
>>
>>101921762
>>101921839
mac o's gets away from much of this by just not supporting old software. that is the easiest route
>>
>>101921832
Anon you need to be connected to the internet for HWID to work first run. KMS is the local one that doesn't need internet at all.
And running KMS_VL_ALL with auto-renew enabled isn't hard.
>>
>>101921878
No, they make everyone use their blessed APIs and ensure the APIs to run optimally with HDR.
This is contrary to Windows and Linux with 51672 different APIs and rendering frameworks.
>>
>>101921895
You don't need to be connected to anything, it's activation that's purely local and connected to your hardware. Once you activate your PC with HWID once it's activated forever. You can go to a forest and do a windows reinstall and it'll still be activated. KMS is an unecessary risk, you have to create a service directly on your PC that's pirated and it has to interact with microsoft directly all the time to fool them into thinking you are activated. Just open your task scheduler and check the errors related to windows activation. I don't understand why people are obsessed with talking about shit they just don't have knowledge about.

What's the most lightweight Windows version able to run Office 2016? Also is there a way i can get all the Office 2016 upgrades offline or already patched binaries now that Microsoft is discontinuing support for it?

Windows 11 Edu here.

Is ExplorerPatcher safe now? Someone said it didn't support latest updates or something.

I've seen screenshots posted here of some anons using 24H2, but my own W11 machine is still on 22H2. I'm a little puzzled as to why? Or the 24H2 images were trolls.
I have W11 on a laptop with i7-12700 and RTX3060. I also have W10iotltsc on a Thinkpad and on an old Latitude I have set up as my 24/7 torrent server.

No, it's far from over.
I'd rather die in Windows 10 IoT LTSC than moving to that piece of garbage.

Why would you use beta software like Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC? It's based on 24H2 that hasn't even released on the GAC (General Access Channel) and you are using the LTSC (Long Term Service Channel). Surely you see how retarded that decision is?

I use both systems and no, each have their strengths. In a sane world we would move over the concept of being stuck in a single OS into the hardware hypervisor model, and design proper APIs to do hardware passthrough, it's 2024 not 1986, but is very hard to make Widevine and TPM to work under that model. Copyright lobbies and Tencent/EA manchildren ruined everything, once again.

>>101926400
I'm a perfectionist and very OCD about my system, I like to keep things organized and to have as much control and stability as possible. Linux just doesn't offer that, I hate silent package manager installers, I hate not having the option to choose where installers go, I hate not having the option to update only one app instead of every single package on my system, I hate the concept of wine/proton and how forced you are to use it if you are into games, I hate the way linux filesystems work and how confusing navigating them is, I really dislike all the major DEs like KDE/GNOME due to their bugginess and instability, I can't stand having a new game bug out or not install properly immediatly, I do not have the patience to deal with linux's shit, if I was unemployed and single then maybe I would. I've just realized that I really love how windows works and any attempt at using macOS/chromeOS/linux just leaves me disappointed, none of them are windows and every time I use them I try to turn them into windows and can never succeed.

Because it's usually always focusing on shit nobody cares about.
>Whoa... linux transfers files 15 seconds faster
Conventionally fails to mention that linux has no anti-virus while windows has defender and smartscreen by default that scans every item being unzipped or downloaded
>Whoa linux is 5% faster in these specific 5 game titles
Usually some meme shit like running windows 11 home out of the box as the comparison which has a bunch of preinstalled OEM and Laptop bloatware and background/startup apps by default that make the OS use like 15% of CPU/RAM, or it's some case of running shit like GTA 4 with vulkan layer which windows users can do as well
>whoa dude linux uses so much less resources out of the box!!!
Conventionally forgets to mention they are talking about some niche shitty distro like artix with a window manager like dwm instead of a normal desktop environment that normal users would need. In reality both GNOME and KDE out of the box on popular distros like Ubuntu or Fedora take up as much space and use as many resources like RAM/CPU as Windows 10 or Windows 11 do.

In reality linux always has to run shit through translation layers and nothing is optimized directly for it since it's a meme hobbyist OS, well its not even a fucking OS, it just has a bunch of meme random third party distros that are just random collections of packages/programs, so linux always performs worse than a debloated windows setup.

linux fanboys always complain about windows taking more resources meanwhile they let every programs they install start at login

People piss and shit their pants because Windows uses 4GB of RAM but they don't mention that Windows will free up memory if some software needs it

When you've been in /g/ long enough you learn how many linux fags here are pathological liars, literal cultists. I would rather trust a car salesman with my life than a linux shill. Everything they like about linux hasn't even happened yet, their whole infatuation with it is based on some specific future in which Windows goes to shit and becomes cloud only spyware, and Linux becomes some heavenly ecosystem in which everyone agrees on everything and decides on supporting the same package manager and desktop environment and gets investments from massive companies instead of linux foundation investing only 2% into linux kernel. It's all based on delusion and lies.

Not only this specific benchmark is cherry picking, perfomance for everyday tasks depends on so many things that is hard to give an accurrate shot.
Of course the average Linux distro has less processes running in the background, also the simpler filesystem helps to their case (most distros still default to ext4, a few more to btrfs but most don't), you would have to laid down the specific metrics you are going to monitor and baseline tweaks allowed for each side.
