Another day, another Hail Mary application to a remote first company. Maybe they'll talk to me. Maybe.

Also, today is the last day I should hear back from any FAGMAN hiring managers. I think that door is been firmly shut for now. 3 weeks was more than enough time.

I fucking hate working with retards. I am trapped with some 33 year old boomer (he’s white btw) that doesn’t know how to code, have to hold his hand through everything even though this nigga went through a boot camp. Then they just hired some female chink that has a thick ass accent that also got hired from a boot camp but is straight up using chat gpt to finish her tasks. Idk what to do anymore, there is no way we deliver this project by March. Never work for as a software engineer for a bank fellas, this shit is full of jeets and retards

I don’t have a vehicle to drive to work I’ve been working IT, networking, printer installation, etc, but apparently after Covid no one hires anyone who doesn’t have a car an I can’t get entry level work I got kicked out my family house because i promised a company that i would have a car in 6 months I just wanted to save for insurance then my family kicked me out because every time i tried to talk about lowering rent or splitting it with my sisters boyfriend who didn’t pay rent at the time So because that conversation would turn into arguments I had to leave for causing drama I’ve been in the shelter had someone bring me out of town to port Loring now I’m couch surfing. Any advice? I'm really feeling down right now, and don't know what to do.

Why are we still using phones for voice comms? I'm so tired of scammers calling me every day, multiple times a day, now that I'm applying. There's gotta be something easier to filter out. Yeah that's what I fear the most. Either a buyout or something drastically changing in the market so the company crashes and burns and/or starts cutting costs like crazy. Right now I feel like I make good contributions but not long enough at the company and valuable enough to be irreplaceable. I really hope I can achieve that level in 1-2 years and then I unironically will cling to this job till I either retire early or die or the company dies kek

tl;dr: What city is most similar to Boston, but has great outdoors, specifically mountains?

bros, I spent a week in Boston for the first time (actually it was my first time on the East Coast) a few months ago and I thought it was top-tier. Everyone there, except for the dickheads at the central public library gift shop, was friendly, the girls were hot, and there were hardly any homeless or crackheads. Everyone seemed educated, and the only people there who didn't speak English were the exchange students, as opposed to Mexicans in other states. Unfortunate amount of Indians but there are worse things to have. The city was lively (inb4 the hustle bustle meme) and had a rich culture and history. Seemed like it had a good job market. Not San Francisco or Seattle-tier, but definitely not lacking.
Anyway enough jerking off about my time there. I like the outdoors, specifically mountains and shit, so I don't plan on moving there (except for a master's program if MIT or Harvard accept me but that shit ain't happening lmao). What city is most similar to Boston, but has good outdoor activities? For reference I live in Denver right now. I kind of hate the city and I spend a considerable amount of willpower to not shoot illegal immigrants and homeless in the streets, but the mountains and snowboarding... amazing. If I could magically teleport Boston and its people to where Denver is I would consider that to be as good as it gets.

I take it SQLite because it is very easy to set up? I hate so many things about SQLite but for a shitty, need a DB real quick project it is hard to argue against.
>>
>>101929075
Because I'm following a course and that's what it is recommending. I presume that eventually I should move from Flask and SQlite to Django and SQL, but I fear that if I overwhelm myself I'll get lost in the weeds and won't actually build anything.
>>
>>101929137
SQLite is fine for learning and screwing around. You can't manipulate tables via DDL and the types system is not enforced, so you can't expand your project much without completely nuking + remaking your DB. Luckily the SQL you learn will be usable for most other relational DBs.
>>
>>101929137
The "Lite" in "SQLite" is because it's an embedded database. It more or less supports the same SQL that everything else does (you'll see this refers to as "standard SQL" sometimes)
>>
>>101928662
What do you expect from the southwest? For the Mexicans to fucking hop the border and not go through Colorado?

Are you fuckin mad?

I've been in Denver this past year and the only decent known food is Mexican lololol.

Only problem with New England is the fucking cold weather. Though to be honest there's nothing more than New York on the East Coast and a bunch of shittier cities.

I would go for New York instead if you're that young. The nature thing though tells me you'd prefer Connecticut with a NYC job.

However, you do you. Probably would just live outside of Boston and commute there.
>>
>>101929075
Doesn't matter if it's shitty. You're still using SQL, having a fun time, and getting experience. Beats fans who don't get anything done.

You'll be fine. Biggest suggestion is to look for 'awesome' GitHub lists, look at cool projects, and make a copy of them if they seem doable.

I think you'll be fine though. Python is pretty easy. I learned it with 'Automate The Boring Stuff with Python' a few years back and had fun doing projects with that book.

>You can't manipulate tables via DDL and the types system is not enforced,
Us androidchads solved this with room like 5 years ago
>Type system with type converters built in (want to use a date object? Np, just convert it into whatever primitive you want)
>Automatic database migrations
>Data access objects that represent entities and their operations

This makes sql literal babby tier. Here's what the CRUD codebase for a user table looks like:
@Dao
interface UserDao {
@Query("SELECT * FROM user")
fun getAll(): List<User>

@Query("SELECT * FROM user WHERE uid IN (:userIds)")
fun loadAllByIds(userIds: IntArray): List<User>

@Query("SELECT * FROM user WHERE first_name LIKE :first AND " +
"last_name LIKE :last LIMIT 1")
fun findByName(first: String, last: String): User

@Insert
fun insertAll(vararg users: User)

@Delete
fun delete(user: User)
}

Yes, that's literally it. You just use the functions with your user object and the database does the rest
>>
>>101927493

Old people just struggle picking up new ideas. I've worked with a couple monsters who still struggled to pick up Git because they had spent a long time in environments without it and by then they were too old (like 50+). I used to get on their good sides by writing them shitty little CLIs that let them pretend they were still using their old thing. Git's always flexible enough to do what they want - just something about old brains can't learn that shit

I’m slowly losing hope, and my mental health is at an all-time low. I’m even willing to work for witches or anywhere else, but those places still don’t hire. I’m 23 years old and broke. The Toronto job market is terrible.

You never know.

I also like retro games, more into DOS and Amiga and old console stuff myself.

Maybe configure older arcades and resell them. Maybe modding Wiis and sell them for profit.

There's a lot of dumb people out there anon. Just look on Etsy for retro shit and copy what other people are selling imo.

You will make it my dude. We both will.

Probably a different-things-for-different-audiences kind of deal. Symbols and buzzwords and other bullshit for the recruiters, and then hiring managers will actually read what you did. For example, if you were a database admin for dozens of teams and petabytes of company data - there's no fuckin way the recruiter has any reference frame for that. But the person hiring probably knows if they're hiring for a role which is easier than that

this is for web testing, there is the API testing guide, but do this one later:
https://owasp.org/www-project-api-security/

find a vulnerability, report it to the vendor and to MITRE to get a CVE ID (https://cve.mitre.org/CVEIDsAndHowToGetThem.pdf)
publish an article on how you got the vuln and start sending CVs everywhere you can

do the offsec metasploit guide for network and general pentesting https://www.offsec.com/metasploit-unleashed/
do CTFs like HTB and stuff
LEARN as much as you can and make sure to have fun in the process.

A lot of people in my office are quitting or are heavily considering leaving because they are people who were doing this for enjoyment moreso than needing the money. Admin is becoming a nightmare of micromanagement to try to make the people they hired who eat and vape while on teams calls behave while making anyone competent miserable and adding duties they didn't sign up for with the idea that "every minute on shift is spent actively working" (a huge departure from what people were told when signing up & fairly hostile for the industry)

bros, should I be quantifying all the bullet points in my resume? His family had a history of mental illness. I stopped feeling bad for him when he accused me of being a "sociopath" and "manipulator" and then immediately proceeded to attempt some toddler-tier puppetmaster womanbrain manipulation shit on me. Like, performing a scene I'm pretty sure he saw on TV, or something. Crying in front of me. He just wasn't that bright, and it all finally came crashing down on him.

He's right about me, technically, but completely on accident, and he treated me like shit for no reason, so now I make bank and he's rocking back and forth in some room. I tried to help him – me and everyone else – but being a weird rude bitch faggot to my face is a bridge too far. He found out real quick what his real market value was, alone.

Some people are just destined to be crushed. They might scramble up the ladder a little bit, by chance, but they inevitably feel how out of place they are, get scared, and self-sabotage, spiting the people holding them up. So they fall.

>Tbh I think the reason the ratio of psychopaths in the corporate world going up is because you have to be wired that way for it not to bother you.

NTA but I'd only use units that are roughly standard. I think number of users can be fine, but you gotta contextualize it (a couple customers which are billion-dollar companies sounds is a lot more impressive than a couple customers who are random schmucks). A ticket can mean a huge variety of things, so a number of tickets doesn't mean anything outside of a particular workplace.

>>What were some of the biggest challenges you faced while freelancing, and how did you overcome them?
I didn't like the sporadic work and having to manage clients is not my strongest point.

>>How did you manage your time and client relationships while freelancing? Can you provide an example of how you handled a difficult client or project deadline?
I gave them 2x the time I thought the project would take, and it took me 1.5x on average. these were small projects, though, so the clients didn't set any deadlines.

i feel like i could probably get by without a linkedin. i don't have any social media. im graduating next semester in CS and i'm currently continuing my internship remotely part time (and will through this next semester).

i don't want to have social media but this seems like one of those things that is worth paying my pound of flesh for. i don't want to miss out on free offers by being a ghost.

i don't know. my intuition says "don't do it". but i interact with people who have bought into this system and they make it seem useful.

are the cons even that bad? what is privacy worth?

Just wanted to vent. I'm a Sys Admin looking for work and interviews have been tough for me. I keep getting caught up on questions that I usually google the answer to, but interviewers just don't like to hear that anymore I guess. I can describe exactly what the function of something is, but if I don't know the exact name of some value in a dropdown menu then I guess I'm not a good fit for the company. It wasn't this hard 3 years ago.

>I hate so many things about SQLite
What are some of those? Sure, there's lots of odd things by default like not being strict, or some non-standard compliant data types, and many functions (especially the fts ones) are far clunkier than postgres, but it just werks. I don't see stuff like pglite or whatever changing that anytime soon.
>>
>>101933306
If "being crushed" by life makes you think of TV and Vikings, as opposed to (for example) illness, debt, corporate restructures, and senseless policy, that's a fact about you, not a fact about the world. And it's not a particularly flattering one.

It's like complaining that someone "talks like Sephiroth"– we all know that just means you feel upset because you're confused.

You should be careful what patterns of thought you pick up from your surroundings. Not all of them are useful.

this might be more of a /sqt/ question, but I'll ask here anyways.
I'm fairly new to using git with vscode, and we use it at my new job. When you make changes on the branch checked out, it color codes where you made changes. Then, when you commit the changes, the color markers go away. Can I have the color codes stay forever? I don't want them to go away when I commit. Whenever I start a new project I'll just start a new branch, so I want the colors forever on each branch
