Get a dedicated device, no phone will come close. Same for cameras if you're a photographer/videographer, same for music if you're an audiophile. Smartphones do lots of things adequately but they do nothing perfectly..

My old phone had a mirror polish on the back, I found it very useful. It's basically 100% a mirror.
I want to upgrade but I haven't found any high-end phone that would have the same finish. Any recommendations?

Buying one of those shit with MediaTek is more worth.
>it’s configured in a more conventional 4+3+1 arrangement and uses newer ARMv9.2 cores from Arm: the Cortex-A520, Cortex-A720, and Cortex-X4. All the cores are also clocked slightly higher.
All they've done is importing a new imrpoved modem from Samsung. And added an Ultrasonic fingerprint-on-sensor. Otherwise, Pixel's software is bugged as fuck and majorly retarded, but at least their support is decent...

All the tech journalists are saying that everyone should give the Pixel 9 series a swerve and wait for the next SOC in the series but how can they be confident that the next upcoming processor is going to be better than the g4?
>>
>>101942445
For the smaller form factor get an iPhone SE 2022. If it's Android then you haven't really got much of a choice apart from phablets. I'm sure there are some small cheap chink phones with Mediatek SOCs but I couldn't recommend one.

They all said this. We all knew that Pixels were not getting any great until the Pixel 10 since then Pixel 7 was out.

By thinking they'll move out from the Samsung Foundries (due to expired agreement) and use TSMC or continue making they own system-on-chip.

Depends if you care about camera. Pixel 9 Pro brings nothing to the table if not shitty camera "improvements".

HMD also lacks of OIS and other classic camera features.
Pixel 9 will most probably get a display replacement from iFixIt, don't know why would you even consider HMD
Also, non-lockable bootloader on HMD.

You do you. Samsung S25 would be nice too, I was considering buying it next year, hope they fucking fix their shitty modem and improve consumption and efficiency with mobile data.

on medium settings with high res and 60fps it throttles after batt goes to 42c in like 10 minutes of playing.

Should I return it or just store it until I need to replace the other one? I mean I love my Pixel 3 but not THAT much since it probably won't be able to run most apps down the line.

Also: is it possible to go in there and upgrade the RAM? Do ppl do this kind of stuff?
>>
>>101945913
Privacy is subset of security.
>>
>>101945873
What made you want to completely avoid it?
>>
>>101946065
Mainly because I have a perfectly good Pixel 7 running Graphene and don't have never had any interest in any of the AI, assistant or "smart" features that Pixels offer. But also the fact they the vast majority of the keynote focused on all the gemini nonsense rather than the actual phone, the g4 is a minor upgrade over the g3 and that was only a minor upgrade from the g2.

Basically I think smartphones reached their peak from around 4 - 5 years ago and everything is just minor incremental updates now to keep the masses consuming and buying a new phone every year when there's absolutely no reason to.
>>
>>101945923
Naah man, no chance upgrading the ram. If you're not tight for money, I would keep the spare and use it as a device to experiment on. If you need the money just return it.
>>
>>101946196
This is what I was looking for. I watched the event too and noticed the big thing they were talking about was all the Gemini stuff. Although I do think it's cool, I don't see how anything they've shown looked to make the phone itself any better for me AND I have to pay $20 a month for it.

At the moment, the biggest things they keep showing for it are that you can make pictures with flamingos wearing hats and send them to your friends. Or you can do the "circle to search" thing. These and you can alter the pictures you take to make them less authentic (adding smiling faces and removing items in the background that weren't there when you took the shot). I can see how Gemini baked in to Android at an OS level can be VERY beneficial, but we're still doing these useless things with it. It feels like a huge was of the extra RAM they are putting in the phone so far and they didn't really tease anything about what they plan on doing to take advantage of what it has.

You can check my Xperia 1 IV post in the previous thread.
What Sony has is speed, at least on the 1 IV, after using it for a while I cannot believe how slow other phones are, whether it's the latest Samsung or iPhone, they don't feel half as fast. They also have really good build quality, the ruggedness of the Sony Xperia will not disappoint you. But that's about it, honestly.

get droidify
Install shizuku and canta
Connect Wireless adb by the shiUku instructions and carefully remove bloat with canta.

go to security settings authorisation and revokation and revoke everything other than settings and battery, optionally security if you're gonna use any of the features that require authorisation

also just uninstall bloat before that like games and TikTok and whatever it has installed.

if you're gonna update the phone always do full update with the 3 dot menu on top

admittedly maybe a dumb decision, but Best Buy upping the tradein value from $800 to $1100 for my phone clinched the deal for me. Then I can use the gift card to get the buds, too, for only $30.

Why am I trading in my Ultra? Because I hate it desu. Didn't pay full price for it, either- financed on a tradein deal through my carrier, so it's very low cost with the two year commitment I already have.

Don't feel bad they got me too, though they changed the trade value of the S23 Ultra 256GB version. On Thursday it was $1099, now it's $690. I'm hoping they still honor it.

Though I notice that your screenshot is the checkout page, are you still contemplating it but haven't actually placed your order? The way I figure it is that I'm paying for the sales tax which is $100 and then an extra $100 for the 256GB version. If I don't like it then I can trade it towards the S25 when that comes out, but at least I can get a decent value out of my S23 Ultra because if I'd waited until the S25 came out I highly doubt Samsung would have given me $1099 for it.

I'm currently looking for a cheap phone that supports lineage (or some other custom ROM) out of the box. Previously used Xiaomi and unlocking bootloader on one was pain in the ass
Are goolag pixels a good option?

There’s an iOS Safari extension that I REALLY want to get that forces dark mode on every website. The developer insists that they don’t receive any data. However, how can anyone trust that? It looks really useful, but I’m too paranoid.

I don’t really care about the iOS part because Apple is massive and doesn’t give one single fuck about you. The extension was developed by one person, though, so that’s why I’m paranoid.

I don’t think we have one in my country. A phone repair shop did the replacement, and they claim it’s an original screen. They also told me beforehand that the fingerprint reader might not work afterward. It’s working, but it can’t read my fingerprint or register a new one. After a few attempts, a message appears saying there’s an issue or something like that.

bros, is there a way to shorten the scrolling duration? I mean when I scroll and take my finger off it keeps going for an obnoxiously long time. Can I make it continue to scroll for like one second? >>
>>101969904
Both Xperia 1 VI and 5 V have very capable cameras but the problem is they are manual cameras. With the Pixel you're used to pulling out your phone, pointing it at the subject and taking a picture. With Xperia you will need to adjust shutter speed, ISO and white balance for every scene or every time the light changes. If you know what you're doing, you can take literally best in class pictures out of your Xperia, if you don't, you're gonna be very disappointed.
Good automatic camera + microSD slot nowadays... I think you're gonna have to get something from a few years ago, maybe a Galaxy Note20 Ultra
>>
>>101970479
Can't just fix that by using the google camera app or whatever?
>>
>>101970550
I couldn't get the GCam to work on my Xperia, it probably needs a little more know-how than I have. Do your research first because they are really expensive phones and if anyone asked me, I'd say don't buy a new full-price Xperia, it is not worth so much money. A used one or if you manage to find it on sale or a bundle (like I saw one where if you buy the Xperia, you get the latest wireless Sony headset for free), those are worth it IMO
>>
>>101970657
Not buying it full price for sure, already have a good option with some discounts, though the 1 VI is still a lot of money for a poorfag student like me. The 5 V is like less than 60% of the price of the 1VI, so it seems like a great deal, plus I am unsure I would enjoy a phone bigger than my current one. Though I feel like I might want that extra camera. I can get another 4a 5g for 10% of the price of the 1 VI. Almost makes me want to do it, or the 5a 5g for the extra battery, but otherwise almost the same.

Can someone tl;dr all the camera specs? Still have no idea what most of them mean. I know MP is a marketing meme, but I don't even know what's the sensor size.
>>
>>101972605
sensor size is the size of the matrix, so it's where the light hits, like a size of film frame in film camera. bigger the better.
mp can be a meme but it can also be good and use pixel binning to improve performance (using multiple pixels as 2 big pixel)

biggest thing is that different CPUs with same camera will produce drastically different results.

really just go to GSM arena and look up camera comparison tool and compare.

A55 will give you solid photos, but like >>101972673 said, SoC/CPUs make a MASSIVE difference. So compared to the images you'll be getting on an S24 Ultra, it will be a big downgrade.

Are there phones with a sub 16:9 aspect ratio that are more squarish?

I don't like ultra wide because it watch a lot of 90s cartoons and even watching stuff in 16:9 seems dumb with bars on the side.

mp is mp, f/1.8 is aperture size, it makes depth of field different like blurry background in cool photos. smaller number is wider I think.
1/1.56" is sensor size, bigger better obviously. 1.0um is pixel size in nanometers, bigger pixel is better because photons have a fixed size, so you can't make it too small.
pdaf is autofocus, OIS optic Image stabilazing,

Does anyone know where I can find the apk of the fixed version of Kuroba-Dev? I know the developer stopped updating last August, there were some changes with how posting worked when we dropped 4channel and now the app doesn't work. Someone made a working one and I can't find it.

Can someone explain why iphone and android has pretty similar battery on wifi but once you go on mobile data the android decides to kill itself, draining 2-3x more, whereas the iphone battery stays the same as if it were on wifi? Why is android like this, it's unusable

also 24mm is the lens equivalent, the less the mm the wider is the lens (and less the zoom)

and for binning it takes for example in 4 to 1 binning 4 pixels, averages the input and treats it as one big pixel. in 64mp sensors that makes 16mp photos, with a benefit of having less noise and also you can on some (like X6) have an added bonus of "lossless" X2 (or more depending on the phone) zoom. where it doesn't do the binning but takes a crop of the sensor at native megapixels, resulting in technically lossless x2 zoom but without binning.
it's like taking a full 64mp photo and then cropping it to the area that would show up in x2 zoom.

on x6 it works great and I was hard pressed to tell the difference between x1 and X1, it probably matters more for low light where noise is a factor and binning helps with noise and light sensitivity.
effectively it also means you have two main lenses because with x1 I have 25mm and with x2 I have 50mm which looks nicer in a lot of cases, especially portraits.

>>101974929
oh and pixel size also helps with light sensitivity
you can also shoot raw if you use a third party camera, but then youll have to manually process it with something like Snapseed, there are also gcam ports that improve photo quality for a lot of people due to googles processing libraries, but generally snapdragon makes better photos than mark as you can see on the gsm comparison, only x6 is snapdragon.
also gcam ports usually work good on snap and bad on MTK.
