Are MediaTek chips that bad if I don't care about custom ROMs? I mentioned in the last thread how I was considering getting a Galaxy A15 5G (D6100+) to replace my Pixel, but something about their brand name just kinda turns me away. I remember seeing on Android forums how their chips were terrible back in the day, and I'm curious if that's changed.
At the very least, do they keep cool? My Tensor G1 6a gets hot to the touch easily.

Does anyone else with an iPhone 14/15 Pro absolutely detest the minimum camera focal distance? I don't feel like I can get anything in focus unless it's feet away, or unless I use halide and force the low-res fucking ultra wide to do it. I hate it, does the pixel or some other phone get rid of this, or is this just a product of every camera now needing to zoom far as fuck, so fuck anything in the 12-18in range?

NTA but keys shouldn't have any effect on that glass. Pocket dust or grit is way more abrasive than the dull, soft metal that makes up most keys.

the only thing I think we know for sure is that the TSMC chip just wasn't ready for primetime, so they went for their backup plan of a juiced up G3 with the added benefit of "beating apple to the punch"
that said i wouldn't be surprised if the 9 and the 10 look exactly the same with different internals, like we saw with the iPhone 14 and 15.

Also, if you don't live in a city and strictly commute between your cuckpartment and the office only, it's very easy to get a random microscopic speck of dirt on your finger or in your pocket and that's all you need for microscratches. Which is what happened to me.

Even a cursory Google search provides dozens of recent forum posts of people bitching about scratching their phone's screen with their keys in their pocket
But do go on about how you managed to scratch your phone screen like a fucking ape, I always wondered who phone cases and screen protectors were for, I guess that's you
>>
I've had my S8 in my pocket with my keys for 7 years and there's not a single scratch on it. No screen protector. Do modern phones have softer screens?
>>
>>101989219
Does your dumb monkey nigger brain not comprehend physics? A softer material won't ever scratch a harder material. In any case I did not have keys or anything else in my pocket, but I was out hiking because I'm not an autistic shut-in so I can only assume that some tiny speck of dirt with a moh hardness of 7 or 8 got on my finger, because the scratch is along the path where my finger scrolls.
Now at least I've learned that I shouldn't trust office drones and hikokomoris about their claims on scratch resistance.

Coming from a pixel 6 it addresses a bunch of the pain points (fingerprint scanner, front facing camera, and modem namely) while overall being a nice hardware upgrade. I didn't get the pro model of the 6 so I'm looking forward to the macro/telephoto functionality too. tensor g1 handled my day to day just fine otherwise. writing off the pixel theme and features is pure cope. they're cozy and useful.

Buying a new phone every year is the best value proposition. Think about it logically.
You can sell, trade in, whatever, a year old phone at 50% of its value.
Let's look at it over a decade. Assuming you enter the decade with no phone to trade in for your first purchase.
So if a new phone costs $1400 and you trade in the old one for $700, you will spend $770 per year over the decade. And you will have a brand new phone all the time which is nice.
However, if you buy a new phone every 3rd year only, your resale value plummets to maybe $300. You will buy 4 phones over the decade (in years 0, 3, 6, and 9) and you will in the end spend $470 per year.
$470 vs $770 isn't a huge saving and you will spend 2/3rd of the time using an outdated phone. QED.

Got a flip6 with a trade in and storage upgrade, didnt get one of the bad qa ones. I like the form factor but I wish it was a little wider. It's very comfortable to carry around, and cutting off distractions by just closing the device works surprisingly well. I've really enjoyed being able to have place it anywhere and not needing to prop it up to see the video, the problem of course is that because of the aspect ratio is stupid tall, video is pretty squished. Cover screen is surprisingly enjoyable to use, but needs to be larger. It doesn't feel compromised as a standard phone except the lack of optical zoom, it's just too expensive for what is basically a 700ish dollar phone that folds in half.
>must improve
Needs optical zoom, enlarged cover screen, a wider, less tall aspect ratio, revamped cover screen software
>would like to have
S-pen support, a larger battery, thinner interior bezels, hidden camera for the interior screen front facing camera because you're probably using the exterior cameras anyways and for the volume/power button to be lowered or possibly split on either side of the device and lowered.
Also the carbon fiber looks dumb but feels amazing, and it makes the phone less slippery.

>MUUUUH 7 YEARS!!111

Basically its the cargo cult of Apple.

Apple has been doing 7 years of support because they have already clearly formed a cycle of selling phones several times through an authorized network.
1. The phone is sold in Europe/USA on release.
2. The phone is resold in a year as "used/refub", in the USA or eastern Europe.
3. After another 2-4 years, the phone sold for pennies in a semi-official way somewhere in the third world, where owning an APPLE is an INVESTMENT.

All this is possible due to the control of the distribution of phones by Apple and making a profit mainly from the sale of applications. Therefore, Apple phones are not getting more expensive as much as androids. Do you remember how a typical android flagship cost 500 bucks in 2015 and an iPhone 799? Well, the iPhone costs 900, and the android flagship costs 1200.

I'm an idiot and the Galaxy A25 is available in the US after all. However, the only one I can find is a 6GB RAM variant. For $250, is that okay?
My Pixel 6a has 6GB too but I'm sure OneUI is a lot heavier.
Don't really play games, just web browsing and watching videos.

USB(-A) charging question:
>have a bunch of 5V 2.4A chargers
>one day decide to measure how fast they charge various Android phones (that should be able to take more than 2.4A)
>none of them get close to 2.4A. Seems more like they aim to take 2A max, in practice ending up like 1.8-1.9A
>measured at low percentagtes, so I'm definitely not confusing it with the natural slowdown that occurs when it approaches 80% full
Is 5V 2.4A some proprietary protocol that none of my phones have ever been compatible with? Is it some Apple shit? Some proprietary Samsung shit?

I don't know anything about the turbo but compared to note 13 line Poco has the same specs for 50 less, other than the camera.

>>101989160
that's pretty grim. it's not like it's expensive... a screen protector costs cents and a case is sub dollar too, why not include it.

Is there any reason to not take the pixel 8 at 450€
>>
>>101996349
just buy some chink midranger
>>
>>101996271
there are a couple of reasons, but it's not worth it when weighed against the reasons not to

>positives
OS and apps have more polish (less likely to have bugs)
facetime, if you have sodomite friends and family for whom facetime and blue bubbles or whatever is important
>negatives
shit restrictive hardware
shit restrictive software
paying ridiculous prices for hte privilege of being fucked in the ass by said shit hardware and software
track record of deliberately malicious updates to ruin your phone experience so you buy a new one unnecessarily early

iphones are the goodest goy choice
>>
>>101996366
chink midranger will be a lot worse than the Pixel 8. Have redmi note 13Pro+ and pixel 8

>>101996211
Truly the best phone right now
>>
>>101996282
If that's all you do then you should be good with 6GB, my guy

As far as I know your choice of phones, you have a white list, so you don't have any options.

I bought with 24 ultra because of the flat screen.
>>101996211
It's good, but I don't like very slow charging.

Telepaths are still on vacation, ask in mid-September.

the only advantage is to reduce the wear on your USB port but changeable USB ports could solve that problem entirely
