Not true. I now have 2 old phones with broken USB Micro-B ports that can now only charged wirelessly.
Usage be damned, having a backup option is a good peace of mind.

>copied from near the end of last thread
Pretty sure I have my answer but any other decent input would be nice.

I use my phone, a Galaxy S7 as basically just a mobile Youtube device that I can also use to check my banking and email as well as some other lightweight shit like looking at the weather. Basically boomer-tier use case.

Dropped it today and fucked up the screen pretty badly so I'm in the market for a new one. Has anyone tried the Galaxy A15 before? Looking it up it's a budget phone but as long as it does what my S7 does I'm happy with that.
>>
>>102085516
Bro, even budget phones today outclass flagships form 2016. My recommendation is just to get whatever has the best software. Galaxy a or s, pixel a series.
>>
>>102085085
I bought an A15 for my mom and I had to return it on the first two weeks of use because the charging port decided to stop doing fast charging and then it couldn't change at all.

Going by your description you're better off with a Poco or any other budget phone out there.
>>
>>102085564
This was my assumption but the more I've looked around, the more I've seen people complaining about the A-series.

That was one of the first things I looked at actually as it was on my shortlist of wants. I saw the S10 was he last of the series to have it while the A-series I think had it right up to the newest ones (I know the A15 does at least).

Reposting and reminding that sometimes the best phone you need is a decent or upper end mid-range phone as opposed to spending how many of hundreds to even a thousand dollars for a flagship Apple or Samsung phone. Sometimes a damn good upper midrange and Flagship Killer is the way to go, especially if it manages to have a flagship chipset with it

>Poco F5 Pro, 12 GB RAM and 512GB storage, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, 5150mah battery, and WQHD AMOLED screen

However, mine already has AMOLED burn or signs of AMOLED burn in the form of the home screen buttons' "marks" or artifacts being barely visible in bright white screens in less than a year, after 9 or 10 months. But I suppose it isn't a problem and is negligible as it won't be evident or visible if the screen is Dark or in different colors.

Any midrange and Flagship Killer bros here?

In addition, yeah I may sound like I'm glazing the Poco F5 Pro or Poco phones (which are basically Xiaomi phones but in the midrange and Flagship Killer phones with near flagship performance and specs in lower affordable prices).

I do and am praising Poco due to the fact the Poco F5 Pro has to be the first type of smartphone that isn't an overpriced flagship device to offer people ginormous 512GB storage space. And that is a good thing because thanks to the Poco F5 Pro being an affordable value for money phone giving people not only a powerful performing smartphone AND huge storage. Many other smartphone companies and brands are now having their midrange devices come with a 512GB storage option without paying flagship levels of prices.

So thank you Xiaomi/Poco, for normalizing and popularizing affordable midrange phones that're both powerful top performing devices, but also now coming with gigantic 512GB storage options. With a phone like my Poco F5 Pro, I don't need to worry about Genshin eating up my storage due to how big it is now.

Of course I guess some of you will argue that all phone brands should give expandable storage via SD card options...

>Xiaomi and Poco

Enlighten me what is the purpose of Xiaomi having two different brands for their phones? I get Xiaomi and other companies do be making different brands to sell different products to target different type of customers. Xiaomi main is the flagship stuff that sells their mainline Mi 11, Mi12 Mi 13 and 14 flagship stuff. And as I understand Poco is supposed to be the cheaper option phones made by Xiaomi too with their software and UI features, but cheaper.

But then there's Redmi. Which also sells cheaper Xiaomi phones??? Why does Redmi exist when Poco is already supposedly the cheaper and affordable version of Xiaomi? Does Xiaomi just want to make it look like they got two more brands under their name that sells different loads product (phones) and give off the impression their that valuable and successful? Whats the difference between Poco and Redmi?

Got an a15 5g three days ago. Stupid app cloud bullshit downloaded tiktok and other poz. Deleted all that and disabled app cloud bullshit. They really try to force you into signing in to TWO accounts! (google and scamsung) but you can get around it. Uninstalled lots of crap and disabled lots of crap, except google play svc, I tried that one and some samshit poz regularly complained so i put it back on.
Like imagine having to sign up with two services before you even get to the home screen??!! nuts! Then shit got crazier. My alarm went off at 6am for work and there was some transparent pop-over with a wall of small text over the lock screen. So i couldn't snooze my alarm.
It had a swipe up thing, but it didn't work initially so here i was at 6am half asleep with phone tinkling bells or some shit loud as fuck. I started reading the wall of text but it was just too early and with the alarm going off... Still don't known what it said. Eventually it let me swipe up.
Next at work i hear msg tone, was it my landlord putting my rent up another 50 bucks?? no it was the digital health bullshit telling me I had used my phone 56 mins more than last week! I got the phone 3 days ago!
You cant uninstall that crap normally but at least you can disable the notifications.

Xiaomi's always used the Redmi sub brand for their midrange and entry level phones. The "Mi" brand was only for their more premium devices, but most recently they've dropped that and are sticking to just "Xiaomi number". You can think of it like Samsung's A, S and Z series for entry-level/midrange, flagship and foldables respectively, or alternatively like OnePlus's mainline flagship series and their Nord series (sub brand) of midrangers.
Poco as far as I know was meant to be a different brand than Xiaomi for different markets, but then they became just another sub brand for high value at a low price phones. Bang for your buck essentially. In exchange for lesser software support and worse cameras you get much better specs for the same price compared to Samsung (or even Redmi), when buying Poco. It's crazy that Samsung is charging about the same for a phone with an Exynos 1480, as Xiaomi (Poco) does for a phone with a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. Sure, the A55 is built better than the Poco F6, and probably takes much better photos, has a better software skin and will get updoots for longer, but the Poco has much better specs if you just care about performance and gaming or heavy multitasking.

It's actually cheaper in some countries. Halve the A55 price and you get a Dimensity 8300 Ultra X6 Pro. Now add $100 and you get the Poco F6, which was rebranded from a newer china phone variant than the one the F6 Pro was based on.

>>
>>102085516
Get a base model S23. You can find them for fairly cheap, it's got another 6 years of support, the hardware and cameras are solid and it's also one of the few smaller sized devices left. Always buy older flagship phones. Because good performance costs nothing these days, budget devices are cheaply made and cheaply supported because there isn't much profit to be made from budget tier devices, and often have intentionally crippled components to encourage a more rapid upgrade.

So literally except when it doesn't matter. Big fucking whoop

It's not a gimmick, I have mine and it still just werks 5 years later. The only reason nobody has it anymore is because
A) moving parts are expensive
B) custom solutions like this make factory streamlining harder
C) if it does break for any user (even if exceptionally rare), fixing it becomes much harder due to missing knowledge

Classic case of an adoption problem. If apple introduced pop-up cameras into iPhones two years ago I'm willing to bet my life on it that every single manufacturer would have phones with one by now.

But it's also relatively easy to uninstall all ad bloat the phone could possibly have? I get the second argument against flashing, but the first one sounds like something only casual user won't try to do.
But even then, what's the point of making it difficult if people that will try to flash are minority and even then, the specs of a phone will remain the same.

I'd say 3D gaming in general if you want a long term device, android already suffers from poor optimization from devs and games are getting more and more demanding. ZZZ is a corridor slop and has higher requirements than genshin, same with WuWa being UE4 and only running stable close to 60fps on gaming phones. And more higher scope games being released (though I don't remember the names besides azur promilia, but trailers look like console tier games).

Though if you want gaming you should probably just get a steam deck anyway and play games with less predatory monetization and better controls.

So I got a realme gt6 to replace the poco F6 I lost (or maybe was pickpocketed), I love it. It fast, it has great battery, decent photo, an excellent screen. I'm actually impressed I get nice things.
I don't understand how with the same CPU the battery life was so shit on the poco while it's great on the realme GT6.

The only thing that could bother someone is the curved screen, I bit the bullet telling myself for the spec I can accept a curved screen. Well, it turns out I actually don't give a shit and it doesn't bother me.

I just assume it's made so they can arbitrarily not provide support if they deem not profitable even if it's the own phone fault (like IPX8 phone breaking from getting mildly splashed or the phone not regulating the power and blaming on cables or chargers). You should always at least try to see if you can get the support (if they are in a good mood).

Listen up, smartphone companies don't want you to know this, but you can easily convert every phone on the market to have a 3.5mm jack.
All you need to do is get a drill bit that's exactly 3.5mm in diameter and drill out the speaker to be large enough to fit the jack, you can then pull your jack directly into your phones sound demon and it'll be forced to sing through your earbuds/headphone.
Make sure the drill is exactly 3.5mm wide, any larger and the whole might be large enough for it to escape.

BBK have even more. OnePlus, nothing, iqoo, realme, oppo, vivo.
> But then there's Redmi. Which also sells cheaper Xiaomi phones??? Why does Redmi exist when Poco is already supposedly the cheaper and affordable version of Xiaomi?
Because you still don't understand audience.
Poco is even more cheap than Redmi, just having good SOC for gayming. Average Poco don't even have proximity sensor.

There's two main reasons: the US sanctions on a random things and target audience.

Factory reset just wipes all of your user data. Your phone doesn't store a secret copy of the original firmware to flash over your shit. Depending on how janky the lineage port for your device is, it's possible that a factory reset could soft brick it and make you flash it again, but it's been a very long time since that kind of thing was common.

Oh hello there! Glad to see even just two midrange/Flagship Killer gang members who're Poco users too. For the guy who's using his Poco X3, I assume you prolly used that old Poco X3 as a gaming phone have you? That is what I've heard and read from some users and local reviewers, the Poco X3 serves as a decent non-5G gaming phone at the time it came out.

As for the European Poco F6 user, I take it you chose the Poco F6 regular because it was cheaper AND had a flagship levels chipset, even though the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is actually inferior or toned down than the regular 8 Gen 3 SoC. Also for some odd reason the Poco F6 has better IP67 water and dust resistance while the stronger pro version has shittier IP rating. Plus I seem to favor the regular F6's fake iphone appearance than the Pro's super rectangular back design present with the Poco X6 phones.

>>102087712
>Enlighten me what is the purpose of Xiaomi having two different brands for their phones?
As far as I'm aware, the Poco seems to be the midrange and Flagship Killer brand of Xiaomi for those looking for powerful smartphones but not willing to fork over money for a flagship. While Redmi seemingly is the cheapo budgetty sub brand of Xiaomi as the Redmi phones sold in my country seem cheaper than most Poco phones...

Also another glazing session for Poco and my Poco F5 Pro: it has an outright Flagship phone chipset, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Though I DID already said it, but wanted to add another, that I love the fact my Poco F5 Pro has a flagship SoC. Oh sure, in this current day and age, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is not the top of the line flagship hardware. But it was top shelf super duper hardware for phones a year or two ago. Plus, non-Western techies will tell you upper end midrange and Flagship Killers like the Poco F series phones are surprisingly powerful phones that're affordable AND are great gaming phones too. Again, my Poco F5 Pro and it's Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip.

Android skins are all universally garbage, nice cope tho. iOS is better than OneUI but vanilla Android is better than both. Google Pixel 9 Pro XL: A Battery Life That Defies Expectations

In the ever-evolving world of smartphones, battery life remains a crucial factor for users who demand reliability and longevity from their devices. The Google Pixel 9 Pro XL has set a new benchmark in this regard, delivering an extraordinary 18 hours and 50 minutes of continuous use on a single charge. This impressive feat is not just a testament to the efficiency of Google's hardware and software integration, but also a game-changer for those who rely heavily on their smartphones throughout the day. With nearly 19 hours of battery life, the Pixel 9 Pro XL ensures that users can confidently go about their day without the constant worry of finding a charger.

To put this into perspective, 18 hours and 50 minutes is an incredibly close margin to 19 full hours, underscoring the Pixel 9 Pro XL's endurance. Whether you're navigating through your busy workday, streaming videos, engaging in video calls, or using power-hungry apps, this phone has the stamina to keep up. The difference between 18 hours and 50 minutes and the full 19-hour mark is a mere 10 minutes, which is negligible in the grand scheme of daily usage. This near-19-hour battery life means the Pixel 9 Pro XL can power through almost an entire day and evening without needing a recharge, which is a significant achievement for any smartphone.

For many users, those extra minutes make a world of difference. It means the Pixel 9 Pro XL can support your lifestyle from morning to night, even with heavy usage. This nearly 19-hour battery life is not just a number; it's a promise of reliability and a demonstration of the advanced technology that Google has packed into this device. In a market where battery life is often a pain point, the Pixel 9 Pro XL stands out as a robust solution, ensuring that you stay connected and productive without the constant scramble for a power outlet.

Amerifat on T-Mobile here, anything I should know before I pull the trigger on a Sony Xperia 5 V? Should I save the $200 and get a 5 IV instead? I don't play Hoyoslop or edit videos, really just trying to replace my Galaxy S9+ with something smaller and it looks like the 5 series has everything I want. I used to run a OnePlus 3T on this SIM and didn't notice any issues so I don't think I'll run into any connectivity problems.

actually I use it to play Fortnite on bed lmao

nowadays I don't think I'll buy a Poco/Redmi ever again, brute performance isn't that important for me right now

I'm currently using a mid-range Samsung phone and I like it a whole lot more than the Poco, software is as important as hardware and Xiaomi is terrible at software, not even custom ROMs are enough since most of them just try to replicate the Pixels, and Pixel UI/Android stock has gotten stale, Android 12, 13, 14 and 15 are practically the same thing

Got an s10e again. Fuck this piece of shit s21 ultra. The battery life and performance ARE better, but it's just not worth it. The price in lost shitty wireless earbuds and clumsy fucking dongles has practically paid for a secondhand one, anyhow. I can't fucking live like this, no expandable storage and no headphone jack are just atrocious. How the fuck can Samsung treat the people who are theoretically their best customers like third worlders? Even worse than them, actually. At least third worlders get a goddamn 3.5mm jack on their 20 dollar Motorola PoopPhone G or whatever the fuck.

Is the 200 euro jump between the normal pixel 9 and the pro worth it?
I don't care much about half of the AI features and minor upgrades, but the telephoto lens is the point I am stuck on.
Is it worth it for someone who just likes taking pictures in nature and of his pets?

Wrong, love the S10e. The only reason I ever parted with mine was because a close friend was struggling financially in uni and hated his ancient, decrepit iphone. I figured I'd "upgrade", that maybe I was being a baby about the whole headphone jack-and-no-storage thing, but clearly not. So fucking bad, I'll be happy to be back to an s10. Not sure what I'm gonna do when it finally bites the dust.

Imagine like a small 640p 60hz screen phone but you put a modern battery (say 4000 mAh). How long would it last in usage and standby time?
>>
>>102111856
I honestly just use a DAC (either an integrated one like moondrop freedsp for iems, apple dongle or my qudelix 5k for wireless). Losing SD card is a worse thing because with audio you need a cable already and the DAC doesn't make the cable bigger but having an external usb storage device is just too inconvenient (though 256GB is generally enough for me). Of course easily removable battery was my favorite thing that is lost, but that was too long ago.

We would have to consider the brightness of the screen, as this is also a factor. Use it in the summer sun and it's either unreadable or sucking dirty pond water trying to max the brightness.
>>
>>102110031
other than spotty 5G coverage, xperia phones apparently work fine on T-Mobile after messing around in the *#*#4636#*#* menu to enable 5G.
as for why not the xperia 5 iv. it uses a samsung OLED screen so there have been reports of people getting green lines on their screen after a year or two. sony changed to a different screen manufacturer for the 5 v so maybe the screen will be more reliable.

Okay but what about software support and security updates? I read and heard your Poco phone only gets 2 years of Android updates and 3 years of security patches and updates.

2023 has passed, a lot of phones previously on Android 13 are now 14. So now you only got one more OS update and security patches until 2026. You sure it was worth it?

And this goes out to all of you. You sure and confident you can use your older model phones for many years to come once their official software update schedules end and run out?

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but does anyone know where I can get a modded version of Monarch? I've tried multiple apk sites with no luck and I want to use it without having to pay for it, since I'm trying to switch over from Mint and I haven't found any good budget replacements for it. Again, sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, this was the closest thread to phone apps I could find and I didn't want to make a request thread. If I have to go to /wsr/, just let me know, but any help would be appreciated.

>burn in after 9 months?
>I'm worried about my x6 now
Weeelll... I will admit a likely factor why Poco's WQHD AMOLED screen already has signs of burn in is partly on me and my fault too.

I am heavy user of of my phone, have used it for work in my temp contract job, use it as media consumption machine. As in watching YouTube, shows and movies in full HD or 4K, HDR and high brightness. I also constantly bring my Poco phone with me in jogging workout every morning and afternoon, meaning it does get exposed to direct sunlight and heat during morning and afternoon jogging sessions.

And most of all, I play Genshin in high settings with performance mode enabled via game space AND sometimes even enabled the phone's performance mode on along with the game space performance mode enabled to get extra frame rates with the high graphics... Sooo yeah, part of my Poco's AMOLED burn is also on me.

BUUUUUT! It really isn't bad. I emphasize my Poco's showing signs of AMOLED burn, but it really doesn't have burn in yet. Like I said, it's artifacting or the shadows and marks of the bottom home screen buttons that're now the visible signs of AMOLED burn. And the home screen buttons' artificating marks/shadows are only ever visible if my screen is white and very bright if you also squint too. But if my screen is in different colors or in different scenes, especially if you're just watching videos, shows or movies. You won't notice it at all.

So my Poco phone's screen is still pretty good and fine and the home button artificating marks are negligible. And the colors of my phone screen are still fine and pretty good and as colorful and vibrant as always.

Upgraded from iPhone to S24 Ultra too, any nice launchers or themes to use?

Samsung Gallery makes folders automatically based on photos and video files in your directory. Google's gallery doesn't make one unless you make them. Also just more appealing UI overall.

The super thin feels insanely good in the hand. I wish they had something in between these two in terms of protection. I barely trust the super thin when I'm setting my phone on a table. I feel like I can throw my limitless out of a moving car.
They both have great build quality though, very nice.
>>
>>102115722
I actually switched to something in-between, the phone rebel clear case for the iPhone, you're looking for reinforced corners so the rest can be thinner. On my s23u I just use a thin rubbery case with magnet on the back from AliExpress

My faves include Niagara Launcher (hope you got ten bux), SquareHome, and Lawnchair 14 beta you can get from their Telegram channel. I have ended up using the stock Pixel Launcher as I like the at a glance widget that Lawnchair doesn't quite exactly replicate.
>>
Do any launchers currently have support for the Android 15 beta release? I used Nova Launcher before but their app drawer doesn't seem to work with Android 15's private space because it's at the bottom of Pixel Launcher but not the bottom of Nova Launcher
>>
>>102115998
Was running the beta for a while and basically all launchers will work, but for that specific feature I have no idea. Some launchers like Smart Launcher can hide apps with a pin code or fingerprint challenge, but you should just stop cheating on your wife.

I hate that annoying iPhone like design. These are the worst generations of phones yet. All so uncomfortable in hand without a case. Everyone just say fuck ergonomics anymore.
