Trying to play a game that uses vp9 for videos, so I guess I need to install vp9 extension, but since win10ltsc21h2 has no app store (nor do I want it, honestly) and the MS website (https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9n4d0msmp0pt) won't let me download a exe/msi/appx/anything to install vp9, I dunno what to do.

Any thoughts on how I can install vp9 on win10ltsc21h2?

What's there to say?
It's stable, smooth, everything just works. Kinda like w10 LTSC but with w11. It isn't necessarily better than w10, but at least is on par.
Is that clear enough for you?
Test it yourself and see if you like it. If not, stay on w10. Simple as.

Intel and AMD both drastically improve performance on Windows 11 24H2 on all CPUs.

You're leaving up to a whopping 35% performance on the table by sticking with pre-24H2 versions of Windows.

Windows 11 LTSC also receives the performance update! Truly a blessing.

in the 3 other tests the difference between 23H2 and 24H2 for Intel is within margin of error whereas AMD is at least 10%. Hey guys, do you know of a reliable 3rd party software I can use to quickly and easily share files (some hundreds of GBs) between two PCs?

I have a laptop running Windows 10 Pro and a new PC running Windows 11 IoT LTSC and I spent several hours trying to make sharing work when I first set it up. Didn't use it for two weeks, installed apps & Windows updates on both and now it's suddenly broken; I spent two hours trying to make it work again.

It's broke just one way giving me the 0x80070035 error: my PC cannot access my laptop but it can access its own shared files, while the laptop can fully access both its and the PC's shared files.

I'm just tired of this.

(sorry if this didn't link properly)
Just a minor update on my Windows install progress: I haven't been able to begin yet, but I did torrent the entire 40 gigs of the Snappy Driver Installer Origin program and I got the rest of the stuff all ready to go when I get the chance. I have been very busy with helping a friend of mine to get them a beginner storage solution and figuring out what I can do to help them get a good monitor that will last them a long time and has an HDMI connection.

Monitor Context: I bought an old HP Reliable PC (no pun intended) at a thrift store that was just the tower and power cord and backed up the OS into an image. This PC appeared to be from a company called "Pats Glass and Glaze" and whoever the fuck ran that PC last should have at least wiped it before selling it, but whatever, at least I have the full macrium image backup. So I nuked the OS and tweaked the BIOS, then installed Linux Mint with a full disk encryption and backed up/stored the key safely. I tweaked Linux Mint to uninstall some unnecessary shit and installed better alternatives, but the most important program I installed I will not reveal. This program would serve as a private P2P communication between me and my friend and nobody else. I gave the PC to my friend and the last thing needed is a monitor, but we already know what we're getting, so we're good on that.

Storage Context: My friend's PC and phone was getting too full and they didn't have anything to store their stuff on, so I went out and snagged a 1 terabyte WD My Passport for a beginner storage solution. I used a dummy PC to install and use the WD software to tweak the firmware settings so that they could use it on any device they connect it to. The drive is tweaked and I will eventually test it and then nuke it, then I will properly format it to exFAT with the proper allocation unit size from a little chart I have.

I have been too busy and need a little break. Will be chilling here for now.
>>
>>102123425
Additional Context: My friend has a laptop as well if anyone wonders how their PC got full.
>>
>>102123415
I would wait until late October for the actual LTSC 2024 release.
>>
>>102123425
Well most people don't download the *entire* index of drivers that SDIO offers but I guess that'll help you in the long run whenever you have a driver issue I guess lol
Sure sounds like a big project.
>>
>>102123197
see >>102120294
everyone should update
>>
>>102123473
And one final thing: I had also been trying to install the original manufacturer's stock OS on my Toshiba Satellite laptop, and I finally got it to work despite the few hardware changes. The installer USB is one I bought from Microsoft in 2016 to nuke and reinstall the OS, I was a normie back then and faced the same shitty customer service issues like every idiot normie does to this day, but I started to become redpilled in 2017, and discovered this thread in I believe 2019, which I had installed the regular Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC back then, and eventually move onto what we have today. So back to the laptop, I got that laptop back in 2013 and I just wanted to experience the nostalgia of the shitty Windows 8 that also had the Wild Tangent Games thing installed and you could play shit like King Oddball and some others until the trial expired. Another reason for reinstalling this is to not only make an image backup of the manufacturer's stock OS install incase the 8 year old installer USB dies, but to backup the stock drivers as well since the Dynabook website no longer has downloads for the drivers (it's a fucking 11 year old laptop). So that was another reason I was busy, I just wanted to experience the nostalgia of the shitty Windows 8 Home Edition when I first got this PC back in 2013, and this PC still works great to this day!
>>
>>102123542
Haha, yeah I always tend to get the full thing whenever I can and archive it incase the their latest releases gets compromised or just flat out disappears, then somebody might want that full software and I will share it with them in whatever way I can! Hell I even still have the old version of a shitty cleaner software I found in a China Buffet dumpster called Wise Care 365, and even though the software is shit and should never be used, I still have it archived just incase somebody wants to fuck around with it for whatever reason.

W11home uses 5GB for me on idle. I imagine less on a fresh install without drivers and manufacturer utilities and stuff.
8GB is still enough for light computing these days, 16GB+ for anything else. Windows 11 also fills up RAM with what you run, but unloads that stuff depending on what you are doing, so it is nothing to worry about.

Doing fine right now bro, I was able to experience the nostalgia of how awful windows 8 was on my 2013 toshiba laptop back then. I was surprised that the Microsoft NORB USB disk actually worked all these years later despite there being a few hardware changes I had made to upgrade the toshiba laptop a bit! I was able to play a little bit of the preinstalled Wild Tangent King Oddball game and cleared the first big square. I only want to backup the stock manufacturer's drivers from there and then nuke the system afterwards to experiment with a different Linux distro. The system back then was very locked down and I can't even back up the drivers using the command line or powershell since even those are locked down as well. Hopefully there is a tool that could do it in a live recovery environment in a similar way to the pnputils command I always use to backup and restore drivers. I wish I could also find a way to share the stock image in a way that other anons can sort of use it in a VM and see what this laptop was like back then, maybe there's tools to hack the NORB USB and extract the data into a useable thing for VMs, but the USB is copy protected.

I wouldn't be so sure that's it. I've seen a PC in a T-Force NVMe shut down in seconds. Meanwhile my own PC needs a few minutes despite being on a Samsung SSD. It's a SATA SSD, but still
>>
>>102132631
LTSC already comes without useless bloat and processes, going further than that would only be to remove telemetry for the most part, which doesn't necessarily make a huge impact in performance, it's more of a privacy preference
>>
>>102117548
Well you see it's got built in spyware that records your screen and uploads it's findings to Microsoft 's Cloud to be reviewed. If you install it even I've it'll always be in the background even if you try to switch back to 10 so the idea is to trick as many people as possible into downloading it like we did with opting in for automatic updates and installing powershell

>>102132831

>>102132809
That's not the issue. The issue is security. IoT LTSC doesn't get feature updates so MS doesn't sneak bloat in there but it gets security updates until 2032, as opposed to consumer editions which will stop getting any form of updates including security in October next year. So if any exploit like the IPv6 one gets discovered in 2026 and later, it will never get patched and you'll be vulnerable. The IPv6 exploit was a zero-click one too, meaning just being connected to the internet made you vulnerable, you didn't even have to run any shit

Depends on how much spyware and bloat ware Windows is running in the background
>>
>>102132815
usually comes down to processes running in the background, if you have a lot of stuff that needs to be shut down, then it's going to take a bit longer, it could also be due to updates and if your CPU is slow

however, I'd say more than a minute to shutdown in SSD is quite unusual, you might want to take a look at that

Funny thing is, after some Googling, I decided to see what Safe Mode is like. Sure enough, with my PC in safe mode, shutting down is very quick.

I suppose I should investigate in the future. Hopefully there is an efficient (ish) way to figure out what service(s) are the biggest bottlenecks other than turning them all off then turning them back on one at a time

I (and at least one other PC I have seen) also has this thing where after the Windows logo part of booting up, there's USUALLY a black screen for a minute or so before I can see the login screen. I heard that can be caused by a network drive being disconnected, and in fact have had a network drive that has been down for years. (Why nothing was done about it is reasons beyond my control). Sometimes, like after a Windows update or recovering from a BSOD, I don't get the long black screen, but I do get a delay after putting in my password before I can see desktop. Thoughts?
>>
>>102132815
>my own PC needs a few minutes
That's absolutely not normal, even with a SATA SSD
Unless Windows just downloaded an update and it needs to do shit while it's shutting down, it should never take more than a dozen seconds
>>
>>102133266
I read somewhere that fast startup, ironically, can be the one to cause this issue, you might want to try disabling it

if that doesn't work I'd start by checking CPU and SSD usage right after you log in, to see which processes might be causing this

Windows updates are basically a computer literacy test.

If you're too dumb, stupid, or technology illiterate to do a 30 second google to block the updates until you want to do them, you are exactly the type of braindead subhuman normie retard who can't be trusted to take care of a computer. You're the exact type of moron who would click "no" to security updates for months or years while installing 200 malware greeting card toolbar trojans on your PC while blaming "M$" for having "bad security." If you cry about something this fucking simple, you are too fucking stupid to use a computer, you are too fucking stupid to even breathe without assistance and need to be put in assisted living since you clearly can't take care of yourself much less your computer. You are exactly the type of brain dead retard who should not have a choice to apply updates. The funniest part about this is that even with everything taken care of for you, you subhuman niggers still manage to fuck up your PC by ignoring all warnings and installing 219837387 viruses and 13952598 hobbyist system hacks that break your entire system and proceeding to blame MS and Windows for your own retardation. Forced updates on normie retards are the best thing to happen to computing, it protects braindead retard niggers like you from yourselves (usually), while having a net positive impact on computer literate users because we don't have to deal with most of your self inflicted retard problems anymore. I have to admit I'm a lazy fucker when I use windows, I like to sometimes just let go and play video games. Linux as an OS is superior especially if using Arch and installing something like i3 and configuring all your shit, but it is time consuming shit, not for the average normie. But everyone has a normie side and windows fits for that simple minded I want to not have to give a fuck about anything and just relax to play video games. I was mistaken sadly with windows in its current state, its not so hand free is it. I have to manually go in and disable and remove shit, i don't have to do that with linux because on linux I have to enable and install the shit I want.

Windows cited as being user friendly is a fucking lie...

But what ever man, I just got very angry with it is all. I do understand where you people are comming from, but I just like to use windows for gaming and that means I can't be bothered to fuck around with a shit UI to change settings. No shit. Question is, what's the best way to do that.

FWIW, I recorded stuff with Windows Performance Analyzer earlier this year, but I have no idea how to parse the results. Everything I could find basically involved DMing the report to a tech on the forum

My father's pc broke once again and it is once again my problem. What are the best backup solutions available natively on windows? Are entire restore images better than file history backups? I was asked to make sure this wouldn't be a problem in the future meaning he would be able to access the documents he uses for work from another computer.

What's the best course of action here? Automatic backups? Of just files or of the entire system? Mapping the Documents directory toward a network drive maybe? He's the kind of user to spread files everywhere on the desktop so I don't know if I can teach him proper etiquette that far in the game

Run these two commands for optimization.

Elevated command promp

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase

reboot

cleanmgr.exe /VERYLOWDISK

reboot

defrag C:\ -O -H

reboot

These can fix common slowdown issues, first one is for system files that store themselves redundantly, dism can fix it, second command clears up redundant userspace files last one optimizes your ssd and runs trim command.

defrag

I know. CLI still has the old name for backwards compatibility reasons. Even the GUI is called "dfrgui.exe" It runs trim command instead of legacy defragging operations.

Also, if you wanna get minimal system impact from bloated UWPs you can remove them simply clicking on it.

First install them from all users

Elevated powershell

Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers | ogv -p | Remove-AppxPackage

And then you need to deprovision (meaning removing them from staged operations, because creating a new user can reinstall them)

Get-AppxProvisionedPackage -Online | ogv -p | Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage -Online

These will open windows, click on what you wanna uninstall, you can do multiple uninstallation by selecting them with ctrl

Lastly remove redundant dependencies

Optimize-AppProvisionedPackages -Online

Optimize-AppxProvisionedPackages -Online

Where could I get an official complete ISO for win10 1703?

I have looked all over the net and I have found it only on rg-adguard and the internet archive with day-long download times, however I would like to download the whole iso in less than an hour. Heidoc.net windows ISO downloader freezes when I select win10 so this can't be used neither.

Where could I do that?

Also, where could I verify the iso so that I can see whether it is modified or not as the official microsoft website doesn't show the hash anymore?

The settings but it does it automatically.
If you mean upgrading to Windows 11, you can set the target version to Windows 11 in group policy to download it through Windows Update, you can perform an in-place-upgrade with a Windows 11 iso or you can just make an install usb with the iso and do a clean install. Either way your Windows 10 license will work on Windows 11 without having to do anything even on a clean install. Not that activating Windows for free is hard with MAS.

mein komaraden,
If Winhoes is slow to shutdown, you can try going to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control in regedit and then add a new String Value called "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" and then set that to some really low number, perhaps even 0, and your machine should shut down faster.

Before that, however, the OS must run off an SSD as others have mentioned, and it is also best to check Event Viewer and see if anything is stalling or taking a long time to close, sluggish shut downs on systems with an SSD drive for the OS are going to be more likely caused by software issues. Of course, if you went full retard in trying to minimize background services and disabled Windows Event Col;lector, then you might be screwed on using Event Viewer to troubleshoot your machine, if I'm not mistaken. Never disable that service.

>>
>>102145813
If you're doing everything right, LTSC 2024 doesn't have any requirements. It should let you install like any edition of windows Enterprise. You select 'I don't have internet' and the 'Join Domain' to make a local account.

not necessarily. keep in mind that LTSC despite getting feature updates every few years, they still get quality updates and fixes monthly or so, so if they make a substantial improvement, it will most likely come to LTSC as well around the same time. Although it is true some stuff still has the chance of not working the same as in with Home/Pro

So here's an update on my current attempt at getting updates without drivers downloading:
>The good news
I got the updates without getting driver downloads.
>The bad news
Despite slimming the windows ISO and removing shit I don't want like the stuff in the LTSC guide, windows update reinstalls those and bloats my pc again, defeating the purpose of slimming windows ISOs in the first place.
>My findings
There are some services we need to have running only when we want to activate windows and update, but there are some services that must be disabled if you do not want driver downloads from windows update, mostly certain services relating to diagnostics and telemetry and a few relating to drivers which I don't remember which these were.
>So what now?
I need help on figuring out how to prevent windows update from reinstalling the extra shit I don't need that I removed from the Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC ISO using Optimize Offline. Windows update seems to be a major problem, so there needs to be something we can do to search for updates manually but also needs to be easy to identify what updates we need. Security updates are critical so those are needed, but it seems that microsoft is rolling many things together into one massive cumulative update that cannot be avoided when using windows update, so if that's the only update with performance improvements in it, then the only option I see happening is going back to the unmodified ISO and finding out what we can do to remove the unremovable shit like the ones removed in the LTSC guide via Optimize Offline. Just trying to figure this shit out, I will type up a list of usecases for each PC and post them, I will need some help with those since trying to install linux mint on those causes it to freak the fuck out because of Intel and Nvidia and starts destroying itself, and I don't have time for mint's crap.
>>
>>102147183

>using tools that were deprecated years ago
>>
>>102142243

>>
>>102147289
Doesn't his software cost money to unlock the full features? I really don't want to spend money to do a one time tweak on an ISO that would be installed on a couple PCs, we have FOSS software for that. Anyways I have decided to just use the default ISO and tweak it to what I need, I had hoped to make the most optimized ISO I could get, but whatever.

Another thing: Why do I refuse to spend money to do these simple things? Although I do have money for better hardware and software, my unique life situation prevents me from being able to spend it easily on these things, and Social Security has made it so that I cannot save over $2000 in any form, otherwise they nuke my medical benefits. They already bitch about my trust fund money, so I am forced to resort to finding ways around their bullshit to get what I need. I cannot post the reason for my life situation here, but maybe when I finish typing up the big TLDR of my life experience, then I will post it to /x/ when I feel ready to do so. It's fucked up and very dark, yet I lived through it and I'm just hanging on by a thread, struggling to break free from their control, I will not lose this fight.

I'm tired now, the second windows tweaking failure had killed my motivation once again, and I need to sleep. I am thankful for the knowledge and help you anons have provided me, and I will keep trying once in a while when I have the motivation to do so, but for now I will go back to lurking until I do manage to get a good install working. We will meet again sometime, I just need to rest and regain my motivation.
