People will say mpc-hc or VLC because they've been conditioned to say it. Truth is most people aren't very adventurous when it comes to media players and don't know about other options.

Try Potplayer.

Like, what more do you need other then the video to be played? You can look up the mpv manual on its website to find out what kinds of hotkeys there is as well. Though if you want mpv with a right click menu with options then just use mpv.net.

Fucking around with an old laptop with XP. Had its original install with recovery partition, so it's safely cloned for me to fuck around with, so that was a nice score. A problem I've been having though is that whenever attempting to connect to wifi, it sees the networks, but attempting to connect gives the issue in pic related, despite even being in the same room as the router.
In testing with a linux live CD, it works fine on that, and in trying a USB wifi card, it too won't connect to any networks on this system, so i'm confident it's something with XP.
I updated it over ethernet via legacy update, tried different drivers, and a different network adaptor and yet the issue still persists. Anyone have any advice as to what to try now?
>>
>>102210929
thats the annoying part
the documentation its not well organized
i didnt even know you could save the video position with shift+q

can someone shill me a browser that does the following?
>has ability to hide toolbars so the window is just the website
>is lightweight

if you passed the usb to a vmware virtual machine running a stripped linux distro for routing which is compatible you could share that router VMs connection to your host machine via virtual network adapters.
so you would use the linux guest OS to scan for wifi and authenticate and then it shares that to the host.
i could be wrong about some of this just thought i would share what my idea was.
>>
>>102211279
In Youtube videos I've watched the chapters are on the timeline, yeah. There's probably a hotkey that changes to each chapter as well.
>>

Anon these days it's either Chromium based browsers or Firefox a majority of the time.
I guess there's something like Qutebrowser which is a lot more minimal but mostly uses keyboard input to get around pages.
>>
>>102211507
just not google chrome i literally want a browser with a different icon and a UI i can toggle off or only pops up if i hover some where. lightweight proffered since its just running stock charts and workout timers and shit like that.
>>
>>102211527
Vivaldi I guess? There's not really many web engines out there these days that're actively developed still. You got either Blink (Chromium), Gecko (Firefox), WebKit (Safari), or Goanna (Pale Moon).
Vivaldi is basically 2000s Opera in spirit and ran by the original Opera founder and is one of the most natively customizable browsers.
>>
>>102211547
ive dabbled with Vivaldi but that fucker is a bit of a rabbit hole and not something i would consider lightweight. good trivia about the Opera founder starting it I guess has a huge music lover.
im literally looking for any browser with any engine along as it can perform the aforementioned in my original comment.
>>
>>102211561
You could probably just get Firefox to do what you want.

yeah might just give that a go. atleast the different taksbar icons is a step in the right direction.

since I can't change my entire router to WPA2 for my entire house, the closest thing i could think of trying was to try my phone as a mobile hotspot and manually setup security types. WPA3 only networks don't seem to appear whereas WPA2/WPA3 and straight WPA2 ones do. despite being set to WPA2 and the system actually seeing it, attempting to connect does the same thing as shown in the original post without even asking for a key or anything, just attempt to connect then straight to that.

The folder is completely useless for any actual programs because windows keeps setting every permission to "admin only" which makes the programs not able to access their own files most of the time

You should be able to make a boot USB manually on macOS if you can format USBs as FAT32 on its current version, can mount ISOs and be able to install Homebrew so you can install wimlib to split an install.wim file into two pieces so it can fit in a FAT32 formatted drive.

If you actually pay for 10 then if you want to use a standard 10 edition past the late 2025 cut off date then you need to buy access to the extended updates. Or you can just wait until someone on MDL figures out how to hack them into being free like they did with 7's extended updates.
>>
>>102212845
I used Win XP until 2019 with no issues (aside from modern gaming not being viable). I'm sure you'll be able to use 10 with some tweaks if you truly insist. But by then you might like the current Windows offerings more. I actually wasn't big on 7 but 10 won me over so I made the switch eventually.

I knew FAT, exFAT and such did not do it, but I was under the heavy impression that both NTFS and ext4 did have checksums.
So that means, for all these years my data was vulnerable to bit-flips?
I probably have some corrupt data by now.
>>
>>102213579
yea possibly. ext4 also does not do data checksumming, you want btrfs or zfs for that
>>
>>102213660
Yeah, I'm using btrfs from now on.
So, what do Windows people use if they want to ensure data integrity?
>>
>>102213711
I'm guessing ReFS is used in this case. It's a filesystem you can use on Windows Server installs that includes file checksum validation.

it is reliable and, at least with 10/11, it's unlikely to get patched since it's the closest it can be to a legit license, and MS doesn't care really, otherwise they would've sued the guy already or some shit

that depends on massgravel. last time I checked the first script didn't work and the 2nd script is now deprecated. This is a known issue with no fix, specifically changing the bit rate and sample rate, depending on your DAC and audio software. Spatial sound should be untouched, but you never know. Mine defaults to 16 bit 48kHz, which is fine because it's ubiquitous, but you can get worse, like forced 32 bit 44.1 kHz. Either go back to an earlier version of Windows or use a different OS like Linux.

A fun fact concerning the recent Intel kerfuffle.

Despite having a 13700KF processor, so one of those supposedly affected, I have never had a single issue with it. Not a single freeze, stutter, BSOD etc. Despite that, somewhat alarmed by all the news, I updated the BIOS.

Since then, I started having completely random freezes, once every few days. It didn't matter what I was doing - whether gaming, watching a movie, reading something - it came out of complete nowhere.

So now I rolled back the BIOS to the exact same version I started with.

TL;DR: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

>>
>>102228426
None of my ISOs we're corrupted. It's a Windows issue for me.
>>
>>102228569
it's also possible to move the existing install to the other drive without formatting it, though this may be a more advanced process (i've only done that "manually", so i'm not aware of any "easy" tools to do that, not that it's actually that hard if you know how to do it)
if you don't care to keep it or even want to install a new copy of windows, then you don't have to do that, just select the volume you want windows on and hit next in setup without hitting format. i would suggest at least moving/renaming any folders if they are in the same place as ones windows installs, like "C:\Windows" or "C:\Users", etc
remember: a windows install is just a set of files, it's not blessed in any way compared to other files
>>
>>102228804

I don't know what it could be in my settings. My Laptop has 3 performance modes, Quiet, Regular and Performance. I have the same issue in all 3.
On further testing, it might not even be exclusive to Chrome. It might even be just whenever graphical elements in general are called up. The sad thing is just recently I clean installed both my graphics drivers on this machine (the problem was still present before that so it's not what caused it)

Funnily enough after leaving my laptop on a while it is better right now, but it does also return and seems like it's choking with graphical elements. I would guess if I switched to only my dGPU then the problem would go away entirely, but I don't see why I have the issue using my iGPU. It's aggravating

It depends.
The quickest answer is 'No', since windows 10 is more stable than W11 at this point.

Yes and no, braindead moron. While the sampling rate is indeed largely irrelevant and pointless, high sample rate records tend to come with excellent mixing/mastering (90-99% of the time from what I know), hence why audiophools tend to believe why higher is better. I love that the only software that NEEDS to be kept up to date just updates itself without my having to use command lines or do anything at all.
As for the rest, it doesn't matter, and I'm too lazy to do anything about them.
"If it works, don't 'fix' it."

will Chrome/Firefox support Windows 10 until then? I guess Windows 7 support was yanked in Feb 2023 with Chrome 110.

I asked a question in a previous thread before (couldn't find it) about logging into outlook without logging into the other office suite apps (word, ppt, excel).
I'm happy to announce that I found a way, and it's to enter your live/hotmail email manually with imap instead of letting the outlook software do it for you automatically. Hope this helps anyone that wants to use their MS email in outlook without signing into the rest of the office suite!

For someone dicking around with windows XP and wants to attempt to use it online, anyone recommend a decent antivirus that won't absolutely bog down an old pentium 4?

Maybe try some of the old classics.
>>
>>102239033
if it's for a quick nostalgia trip then just be careful not to go to any shady sites and don't put any sensitive data there, if you're feeling schizo you could isolate it in your network or use a VPN, using an old antivirus would be pretty much useless honestly
>>

Looks sharper to me. In fact W10's fonts look worse as in most windows applications they aren't properly implemented unlike with W11 where they are consistent. Metro really was a unfinished ugly piece of shit, glad we moved over to WinUI3.

>Low IQ Retard
Doesn't know that windows updates exist, only updates when it's automatically forced on him, stay on the latest and greatest general access channel that way and has the least amount of bugs and security issues
>Midwit
Trannytinkers and tries out pirated isos with no official hash checks, tries out multiple third party debloot scripts that brick his system and slow it down, and enters insider channel or goes for LTSC or accepts preview updates just to be hecking different and ends up with a worse OS experience
>High IQ 0.1% bull
Just lets clean Windows 10 / 11 Home / Pro / Pro for Workstations from retail update itself and werk. Gets by far the best experience.

TLDR: Don't touch or change anything unless it's broken, your OS will update on it's own if it's qualified by the end of 2025.
>>
>>102239033
The average detection rate for any antivirus is about 30% or less. They don't even detect obvious infostealers written in Visual Basic .NET with unobfuscated code, unless someone submits the hash to their databases directly. You're better off just not using one at all.

Just stop using antiviruses you stupid fucking chud
>>
>>102239033
just using a firewall that blocks by default should be plenty, you don't need any built in services accessing the internet anyway
if you're going to use cracked software, maybe give those a scan with one of those online multiple-engine scanners before running it if you're concerned. also if you plan on giving it access to network storage, consider not giving it write permission to important shares

Comma as the decimal separator is based and culturepilled. It is used by France, Italy, Greece, Germany and the Netherlands (among many other countries). All pioneers in science and mathematics.

Not switching to 11 until 2032 when it will probably be good. Thanks for beta testing it for me though fags.

Does anyone know of a good guide on how to correctly install the new Windows 11 update for Ryzen Branch Prediction?
>>
yeah windows 11 was bugged, this is a fix for it to perform close to windows 10
>>

Nightly is best for something like yt-dlp
>>
>>102242437
if you're on 23H2 you install the latest KB update via Windows Update or Microsoft Catalog Website.

If you're on 24H2 you already have it or just do Windows Update if you're paranoid.
