should one go with 256gb model? that one has the updated storage system compared to the 128gb model? also how much bloat do these phones have, i mean how much of that advertised storage is available?

Nothing 2a if you need a close to stock UI, Pixel 8a is better in this regard ofc but it has a shitty Exynos

S23 (256gb model) is the best choice, the iPhone 14 is decent but it has a shitty 60hz display and iOS is babby's first mobile OS

>>102233998
Don't really think about storage speed at this point nor tier, they are all so fast and snappy its overkill.
But if you have the extra buck go for the 256gb, you will want that extra space, especially if you want to take full advantage of the camera, store your own music, or install any recent games.
Regarding bloat. It's a LOT, you even get some duplicated apps, like 2 sms, 2 email, 2 galleries. You can uninstall or disable almost everything without adb.
I should stop being a lazy ass cunt and post in a pastebin the full command I run with adb to delete everything I don't like.

if it wasn't for the clean android i wouldn't even consider pixel. the camera isn't so good that it will carry the phone itself. flashing the phone will also break banking apps (and maybe others). and if i were to do flashing i would rather get a phone with better chip.

Nah. ING, Commerzbank, and a couple others I have run without issues even without Google Play services installed. Stuff like trade republic did bitch about needing Google services, though.
Its not rooted and bootloader is re-locked.

> phine with better chip
Problem is there are no ROMs for most of the phones. If I could get graphene for Sony, I wouldn't even consider a Pixel.
>>
>>102235120
by any chance do you have the S23? how's your storage use?
at least for older phones when the memory bits start dying phone will slow down faster the more storage you use. though i suppose these have dogshit tier flash storage. i guess the modern storage last far longer than the phone can physically take.
i've seen this happen, old smartphone full of pictures will lag like hell but will be much snappier if empty.
the 256gb S23 is lil bit under 600bux. that's the one i'm currently considering unless pixelpajeet can convince me otherwise.

How much storage does a phone really need? I'm only using like 80gb on my phone rn so a phone with 128gb could be fine, but what if it isn't enough one day? Is 256 the sweet spot? 512? I can't decide. I miss when modern phones came with microsd slots.
>>
>>102235835
I'm still rocking a 2yo Snapdragon S22.
I really mean it that I pay no attention to storage speeds, my last phone was the s20, and the only time I see a difference is when loading CoD Mobile. My storage rounds the 80% mark, I transfer my pictures ASAP to my pc. So it's mostly games and music.
I still own, and sometimes use as a spare, a 16gb Nexus 5 and it feels as snappy as it was back a decade ago, so unless you are buying low end or chinesium, I would worry about storage degradation.
>>102235379

>muh graphene
You are not Edward Snowden you fucking nigger, absolutely no one is spying on you, and normal people need shit like their banking apps working.
>>102236012
Depends on usecase, normies are way more than okay with 128gb. Gaymers will probably want at least 256-512gb considering CoDM is like 100gb if you download everything, gachaslops also round the 60gb mark. Photography should be okay with 128gb for casual, 256 if using raw, filming at least 512, especially with 8k 24 or 4k 60.
So yeah, right now 256gb is a sweet spot.

bro, i'm the original guy who asked about the phones and this is the phone i will be upgrading from... my unit just turned 10 and a half years and it is definitely getting slower. if i use more than half of the 16gig storage it will start slowing. though it is kinda slow even if it was completely empty.
>>
>>102236055
>gachaslops also round the 60gb mark
Maybe if you play 3 games. HSR and ZZZ are each around 22GB on my Galaxy S23. Genshin is 35GB, but I haven't updated that in months, so it could be 40GB by now.

Is Z Flip good yet? I got an S24 for more than free with my carrier but never set it up since it's the 128GB and I've been too lazy to clear out my current S20 (or just start fresh) but the trade-in deal is pretty good and can bump me up to a 256. Mijoyo allows uninstalling of past/old resources in their games to alleviate storage issues. But 256gb now is definitely not enough as even gamers have more stuff than just games. I'm just putting up with 256gb as I needed a phone quickly. A bit of regretting it now.

I always end up restarting the head unit for it to work normally for awhile before it crashes again. I have an S24U if it makes any difference. It happens with S23U and S20 FE as well. So apparently you can't get the Samsung S24 Ultra 1TB anywhere except unlocked. I'm very hesitant to drop $1,300 on a new phone all at once, is there anywhere I can buy it unlocked and put it on a payment plan?

Also, what does the 4K HD Streaming on AT&T's premium plan entail?

Aren't the Google Pixel cameras technically inferior to the S24's and it's carried by software? Could you not just transfer the software somehow to the S24?

Then you are validating my point. If a phone with ancient storage technology and a microscopical 16gb flash memory is getting slower just after 10 years of non stop abuse, imagine how long new ones can last.
I didn't use mine for that long, I upgraded after 2 years, then it was just a spare/work phone, so maybe that why the storage in mine is still in good condition.

I think it will be same as other premium features.

When phones became big, cheap phones remain small for some time. When phones became glass, cheap phones remain metal. So I think there would be plenty of cheap phones with curved screens.

No. Never ever consider Xiaomi.

MIUI is buggy ass, some software have bugs with it that MIUI exclusive.
There also ads, plenty of them and it's hard to remove.
Hard to unlock it you want, but it doesn't matter because custom ROMs are dead.
MIUI is random shit. Sometimes it's works, sometimes it doesn't. You may have problem that you and 3-5 folks on XDA had with no solution.

You have plenty of money to get good chink phone without this issues, like OnePlus 12.

If I had the money to start my own phone company I'd make a top notch Android phone that would have all the positives of the iPhone with all the features of a flagship chink phone.

Basically I'd only have 3 models. Low end model that isn't total dogshit like some A0 series Samshits. A mid ranger and a flagship phone or maybe just the a midranger and flagship.

Flagship would have:
- 6.7" screen
- flat display
- rounded corners
- headphone jack
- would take 2 SIM cards (inc. eSIM)
- 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging
- QHD display (1440 x 3120) OLED LTPO
- only Snapdragon CPUs
- 12GB - 16GB RAM LPDDR5X
- 256GB UFS 4 storage (goes up to 512, 1TB for cheap),
- 5 years guaranteed regular updates at the same time, 4 OS upgrades
- WiFi 6, BT 5.3, Ultra Wideband Support
- Decent camera but nothing too high end
- Fingerprint reader
- Face unlock
- IR blaster
- Stock Android with something Hello UI from Moto just to add some worthwhile refinements
- Includes case, charger, cable, screen protector

I'd release a new line up every two years. They wouldn't be cheap but for the price you are getting solid everything, top notch build quality, great support. Since a lot of people are willing to pay for quality. I'd make money selling cloud storage, extended warranties, care plans.

I am not going for the third worlder segment (Xiaomi), mostly just trying to displace Samsung in the developed world. Not trying to appeal to incels either like Sony does with the Xperias.

They have headphone jacks and a rather dated design, both of which can be considered a plus by some. The jack is said to be of not the best quality, so while it is there it might not satisfy an audiophile but those types have type c DACs.

They are also priced way too high because Sony. The 10 series (lowest tier) costs more than some phones that mog it. If you want a 5 or a 1 they are competitive on specs but be prepared to spend an arm and a leg.

I want an Xperia 10 III for Sailfish, but none are available. Only one I saw for sale was a mark V and isn't yet supported. I always buy based on capabilities now not hypothetical future ones.

Probably a lot if ever, try folding a group of pages and see how much the hinges have to stretch with each extra fold. Happy to say I made the right decision. One issue though is WiFi is limited to ~340MBps while my OP6 used to hit ~560MBps, even though they both support 2x2 802.11ac. Any clue what's happening here? Don't know, but to my experience western carriers don't do that because they main business is selling phones.

Actually managed to test another provider's SIM card to test calling a few minutes ago and it calls just fine without a bot message, so there won't be an issue despite them insisting to consoom their spyware phones every call.
All good.

For other anon's knowledge if someone lurks the archives in the near-future with this problem:
>This year, mobile providers are repurposing some 3G bands meaning 3G calling is kill
>1/3 of the big carriers already shut it down, the other two are happening next month
>Phones now have two requirements: 1. VoLTE compatibility and 2. supported LTE/NR bands in Australia
>Non-certified phones (aka those not sold in the country) are not included in Australia's register, so checking on their systems prompt you to check and seek an upgrade
>However, I've verified VoLTE calling works just fine on the """unsupported""" Xperia 1 VI

From calling my provider the other week, they also gave a $200 discount on a phone from their "approved" list, so might just cop a $200-400 one for keks

Thanks to the anons who recommended me FFUpdater to update my browsers on Chromecast TV. Worked a charm.
Also got Obtanium but seems like I have to add apps manually?

Was also suggested KeyMapper instead of ButtonMapper, so thanks for that also. At least it's not going to botnet all my inputs

Which one of these is the best "bang for a buck" or however is it said

S23U 790€ 256gb
S24+ 750€ 256gb
S23+ 730€ 256gb
Z Flip 6 700€ 256gb
S24 650€ 256gb
S23 550€ 256gb

Why s23u, cause no shitass 10x less lens, why zflip6, cause interest
Mostly will be used for noraml shit and a lota photographing
Why not anything else than samsung, casue im too deep in the ecosystem
>>
>>102257736
S23U or S23. Obviously S23U is the better device - better cameras, LY+TPO screen, bigger battery, etc, ut the smol S23 is also a great phone, and that's a good price too.

repost: I didnt wanna make an own thread for this but i thought maybe someone here could help me (Since the screens are somewhat similar). So i have an ipad that has 2 pretty big and long scratches across the entire screen. They are not deep at all, like if i pay attention and go across them with my finger i can just barely feel them. It works perfectly fine but its just annoying visually ofc. Anything i can do? I read of several methods like using tooth paste or polishing paste and even of screen protectors that make the scratches transparent (which i kinda doubt). Anyone here had a similar situation and knows what works best?
>>
>>102258234
>I guess s24 line nah since exynos?
Correct. The Ultra is the only one you should buy from the S24 series, but it's significantly more expensive.

I'm probably retarded but I can't find a definitive answer for this. Does anyone know which samsung phones in production have s pen support? I can find the ones that come with an integrated s pen, but I know there are a few with s pen support but they don't come with one. Can't find a definitive list for it though.

It's easier to design multiple separate tumors bulging out the back of the phone all with different lenses and separate sensors than it is to design one sensor and one lens capable of zooming.

One is usually a wide angle. ~28mm FF equivalent FOV. This is your standard camera.
One might be a macro, these are usually useless.
One might be a telephoto "long" camera, useful for taking photos of distant things.
One might be optimized for low light with a lower MP sensor and bigger lens letting more light in.

Just like how professional cameras are all interchangeable lens cameras (you can swap lenses) smartphones have different cameras behind different lenses to use for different things.
Designing one with a zoom capable lens is possible but likely not practical, especially since they have to be shock proof and durable to survive drops/etc.

so when does the mustard gas kick in. am i fucked
>>
I have RAM boost on my OnePlus Nord N30 5G so I can spam the fuck out of widgets on my home screen. It doesn't slow the phone down that bad and the phone is a secondary phone anyway.
>>
>>102263299
Minor wear on the storage from using it as swap space. Good to turn off but not essential.
>>
>>102263356
You have 8gb you don't need swap. Do the widgets not work if the "feature" isn't turned on? That would be odd.
>>
>>102263408
It's not that the widgets don't work if the feature isn't turned on, it's that I don't want the widgets to cut into memory that I would rather have reserved for the music player playing in the background while I'm surfing the web.
>>
>>102263299

are the lower end exynos chips that bad compared to the lower end snapdragon chips? I wanna get an a54 which has an exynos 1380, and I think samsung basically killed snapdragon on their low/mid range phones. I've got an a52 with a snapdragon 750G atm so at least I'd want it to perform better, or the same but with longer battery life.

>>
>>102263800
The Exynos 1380 is a good chip, just not for full price when you can get better chips at the price. But for $250 usd or less, it's a good chip, and the A54 is a very good phone.
>>
how much can you debloat samsung phones? can you make it so there is absolute minimum amount of background shit going on? and how much longer will the battery last if you autism tweak it? can you do it without 3rd party apps or rooting?
>>
>>102264209
thanks, just got it. it was a clearance sale so it was $170 or so after conversion I think.
>>
>>102265025
What ram variant did you get? Hopefully the 8GB version
>>
>>102264596
Doesn't make a huge difference, I tested it myself with my S23U. First year I debloated everything and used it without a samsung account. Few weeks ago got bored of my phone and updooted to 6.1 and signed in to Samsung acc to try out AI features. Didn't notice any significant difference to battery life. Also note this time around instead of debloating I just manually uninstalled/disabled/restricted anything I could. Maybe for midrange/budget phones debloating makes a significant difference but otherwise dont worry about it too much.
>>
>>102265043
8GB/256GB yea. I didn't realize there were variants.
>>
>>102265097
cool awesome thx bro
i suppose there are savings with debloating but the biggest savings come from dark themes, low brightness and not playing genshin 24/7
>>
>>102265687
the bad part of debloating OneUI is that you'll lose a lot of features unique to Samsung like Secure Folder, floating apps, some Dex functions or Samsung's backup software (way better than Google's/AOSP imo)

The exynos 1380 basically performs the same as the sd778 which was in the a52s, a 2021 phone
>>
>>102266871
And the Snapdragon 778 was a good chip. They now have a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 tier chip in the form of the Exynos 1480, but the 1380 is going to perform well, especially for $170.

Which iphones dont have volte and in which countries?
I thought it was enabled anywhere there is volte.
Anyway, it's easy for the carrier to send updated firmware, or apple to send updates to iphones, whereas vile google has said "only Pixel X supports volte/5g in Y country, not Pixel X-1 or X-2, because they weren't sold there." and they NEVER fix it. Android betas have full support, it's just a plist you have to tweak.

The 13 mini is what I have currently

I honestly liked it a lot at first, but I used it out in the sun for a 6 months all day long for wagecucking like a brainlet instead of getting a cheap work phone. My max life is currently 85% and I’m sure the internal hardware is deterioratated some as well. It probably doesn’t help I haven’t had any good charging routine since I bought it nearly 3 years ago. A lot of the specific screen features and functions as well as the text/keyboard functions have always been a bit wonky bc I don’t think they tried very hard to implement them well with this itty bitty screen. I also have Tony Soprano hands so maybe that’s why. I do love the compact size of it bc it’s not like walking around with a fucking tablet in my pocket.

I’m hoping the 16 is halfway between the mini I have and the current 15 in size, but I know that likely won’t be the case
