When Katawa Shoujo released there were multiple threads on /v/ about it, and the mods demanded that it all be kept to a single thread. So the "Katawa Shoujo General" threads became a thing, and eventually general threads about other games started popping up. The rest of /v/ hated this. They hated that there were games being discussed on a constant basis, even in their own containment threads, and eventually Moot had to create /vg/ (and /vp/ and /vr/ and so on). It wasn't the general threads themselves that caused Moot to step in, it was the threads complaining about the general threads. Those threads were the reason Moot made his "talk about video games" sticky. He basically said "ok look, I've created new boards for generals and pokemon and retro games, so will you stop shitting up /v/ with threads about how /v/ sucks now?"
