Start with
>yt-dlp <URL> -f bestvideo+bestaudio/best/best --merge-output-format mkv --add-metadata --ffmpeg-location <path to ffmpeg>

I added the ffmpeg path to Environmental Variables so I don't have to type out the full path every time. Pressing the up arrow after yt-dlp allows you to recycle the last prompt, so you only have to replace the URL not re-type everything all over again.

If it is hardware that W10 can run on, W11 also will via the same drivers. W11 = W10, fundamentally. No one should have issues.

From what I'm reading, only Windows 11 has the ability to enable mirror mode between the Linux subsystem. The goal is to install WSL2, install SSH/Ollama, and be able to hit that server from another laptop. I'm not familar with Windows at all, so it's been a struggling trying to figure out the firewall/networking port. I just want to run ufx or iptables. :/

Anyone know how to do this in a better way? I had downloaded the Windows 10 ISO, but maybe I just need to go to Windows 11.

So will it be impossible to change things like the start menu, taskbar, etc. in a legitimate way from now on, or is it just a matter of developers change the way they work?

Best free program for making disk images (including system backups)?

Is Macrium Reflect Free still it, even though it's not updated?
Is it even still available? It's still working on old machines of mine, but it seems like it's no longer available to download from their website, only a trial edition. MajorGeeks has a link to download it, but don't know whether to trust.

Or is it just time to move on? How is AOMEI? I used it once before, but then got worried about chink spyware.

Or should I just cuck and pay? And if I'm gonna pay, should I still go with Macrium? How about Acronis? Paragon? Something else?

any windows vm + rufus

>>102393707
WoeUSB or Ventoy would be easiest.
You can also set it up manually via formatting a USB as FAT32 then extracting a Windows ISO to it (besides the sources folder) then extract said folder but not the install.wim. Then download wimlib and use that to split the wim into two pieces to fit it on the FAT32 formatting. Then you should just be able to boot it like normal.

thanks but it looks like a normal transfer with extra steps.

They're going the full-corpo "everyone has the same experience" garbage that's so popular right now, so customers aren't "confused."
>>
>>102394294
So the "drive" mentioned in the guide is C:\ or something else? Sorry I'm new to this and kind of confused.
>>
>>102396438
It would be the drive that Windows is installed to, so yes the C:\
If you want to move from 11 to 10 LTSC you'll need to clean wipe this drive after backing up anything on it.
When you're in the 10 LTSC setup USB, press shift+f10 to open up a command prompt so you can access diskpart.
Run "diskpart" then run "select disk 0" then run "clean" to wipe the disk of all partitioning data.
After it shows that it was successful, close the prompt and refresh the drive listing and install to the unallocated space
>>
>>102396438
the guide is referring to the drives as physical drives or disks
you're referring to drives as logical drives or partitions
drive is used to refer to both, but referring to C: and D: as partitions in this context makes a more clear distinction
C:\ is just a partition on your drive
you have C:\ and D:\ partitions on one drive
if you wipe C:\, you still only have one drive and one EFI partition
the windows installer wont care

some people have C:\ on one physical drive and D:\ E:\ F:\ etc on another physical drive
and they might have two EFI partitions, one on each drive, one left over from a previous installation, in that situation they'd want to wipe all the EFIs, or at least the one on disk2/drive2

>You can't upgrade/change LTSC to or from a GAC edition.
Alright, lets put this persistent myth to the rest. You ABSOLUTELY can upgrade (sidegrade rather) from LTSC to GAC branch, as long as you are using the same build. It doesn't even require any hacks and is natively supported. See: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/upgrade/windows-upgrade-paths
Going from GAC to LTSC however isn't supported and requires you to do hacky things and you'll end up with a frankenbuild.

I need help with an installation usb since I don't even know how this problem happened. (Either some funky shit happened or my brother trolled me and just swapped my usb with another one.) My Windows 10 USB stick seemed to have randomly turned into a Win 11 one.

I was planning to dual boot with Linux on a laptop and when I got to the set up it said that it was an incompatible install which confused me since I knew it was Win 10 from the very beginning. It wasn't until I tried it on my main station that I saw it was trying to install 11.

How did this happen and is there a way to revert this?

I even said "fuck it" and tried to install it anyway yet the boot menu didn't even show Windows 11 as an option.

If the SATA isn't showing up in BIOS, that is a definite sign that you can't install/re-install.

If your HDD install is still usable, install Macrium Reflect 7 Free and use that to copy your HDD partition to the SSD. You've got some kind of HP machine with a 7th gen i5/i7? Weird that you are even having issues. Double check your BIOS settings, something is off. Is your SATA mode set to AHCI? You need that with SSDs.

Windows 10 issue here
For some reason whenever I do full scans or during windows updates, it says it's using 100% of the C drive but it barely caps out at <5 mbs per second according to task manager and hwinfo and slows down the entire system
The SSD is fine according to s.m.a.r.t and benchmarks, it still read/writes at the advertised read/write speeds which are way more than what I'm getting whenever windows wants to do anything. It's not full, only 20% of space used, my ram is more than fine, and transferring large folders from D->C drive and vice versa also goes more or less according to its write speed.
So i want to ask is there some obscure setting somewhere that I need to turn on or off to make windows utilise it properly?

na, it's normal for operations that involve tons of small random i/o to be way slower than large transfers, and it even more pronounced on cheaper/sata ssd's
"100% utilisation" just means the drive is fully busy, as in it's doing something the whole time, what speeds you get depends on what you're doing. you may be thinking "didn't ssd's fix this? isn't this a hdd problem?", yes and no, yes, ssd's have far faster seek times than hdd's and far higher IOPS than hdd's (in general, if you don't cheap out too much), but they're still slower at random operations like hdd's, just not by as great a degree

Thanks for answering
That makes sense, I guess I'll have to just deal with it (I already disabled any auto updates so I don't get bogged down in the middle of something important) until I upgrade to a better ssd for my C drive

Do I just partition my SSD, download and install Win10 IoT onto the new partition, move files over and delete the win11 partition? I dont have an external drive at the moment and will not intentionally backup pictures and videos of my children to the 'cloud'

Then you can install to the now fresh unallocated space with none of the 11 install's detritus.

I did a fresh installation of windows 10.
To copy old VMs and other data that stayed on old SSD, I did shutdown, plug in data drive and booted into old windows. On the new windows, the files that I copied to the data driver weren't visible and drive had still empty space. I did reboot again, and system did "repair" the drive and these files did appear.

Did the old windows10 have malware? I never seen anything like files that don't appear until a disk scan and a reboot.

Mobile devices, such as laptops, require OEM drivers to function properly. For example, I have an AMD graphics card, and Windows version updates often lead to generic driver upgrades. Unfortunately, the UWP app for drivers won’t work because it’s fucking outdated. Additionally, battery and power management drivers often don’t function properly because OEMs design them for specific versions, like 21H2, for instance. A device that is supposed to have a 7-hour battery life may end up only lasting 2-3 hours due to these issues.Driver updates aren’t straightforward, and the kernel version will be bumped as well. In a perfect world, Micro$aft’s telemetry would work effectively so that users wouldn’t have to deal with this mess but no, we need to suffer.

it got autoinstalled during the night and I woke up to my pc bsoding every 10 minutes. Doesn't the Windows installer give you a list of disk/partitions where you can just delete everything until it's just one disk with unallocated space? Why the need for cmdprmt?
>>
>>102412192
>No, that means the iso that you used for fresh installation has corrupted file system.

But the errors were on the data drive not on the system drive.

The only strange idea I had, back from xp era, was that both systems overwrote their permissions, but that wouldn't explain why the new files on the data drive were invisible and drive didn't report the decrease in free space.

If a known anti-virus software vendor flags the software with something else than 'generic', yes, then maybe you have an issue.
Almost every patcher and keygen these days are getting flagged by the AI heuristics. I know that Defender itself has some keygens also hard coded into their definitions.

Software gets heavier over time as demand for aesthetics and new features happens, ms can try and optimize it but the reality is W10 was super fucking ugly and barebones but that made it's system requirements much lower. I'm on a 11th gen and W11 Enterprise works just fine for me with all the bells and whistles like animations and transparency enabled. It's a very good looking OS and decently preformant as long as you get used to animations being slower to mask the loading unlike with W10 metro where everything felt a bit faster but uglier.

Also practice some basic cybersecurity and privacy hygiene by running an updated build of windows, and running either Firefox+uBO or Brave when visiting dodgy pirate sites with pop-ups. qBittorrent is best for downloading, make sure to enable Anon mode or whatever it's called and use a VPN if you are in a country that requires it. As for anti-virus software, only thing you should use is Windows Defender, just disable automatic sample submission and make sure everything else that's not virtualized based is enabled in the main tab and reputation protection tab.

The one that comes with current Windows these days (Defender) is more then enough a vast majority of the time. Doesn't get in your way and you can set it to be less spooky in the settings (pretty much just disabling two options.)
If you want another option you could look into BitDefender or ESET.

>>102424061
okay, so basically what I was doing before. qBitTorrent, windows updated, Ffox + Ublock and some other addons. The source is decently good, especially for my needs (films and music).

Thanks, I'll stick with the basic.

fmhy is very nice. Helped me get back into my groove when it came to site knowledge.

looks good to me, maybe I have something to discover from it.

Using anon mode in qBit while binding it to a VPN seems to pretty much be ironclad when it comes to torrenting higher profile content

so i dont completly follow all that, guess i got to read up some
but are you telling me that these $10 windows keys sites are selling is them getting keys for free?
>>
>>102425604
It's either going to a third-party Windows key reselling site and getting a certain edition key for like 10/20 bucks, buying a Home/Pro license from MS directly for like 150 bucks or using MAS's HWID module to permanently activate your install like you bought a real MS license.

so
>step 1: get windows installer on an usb
>step 2: install and choose activate later
>step 3: once on desktop just follow the guide here https://github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts
>step 4: enjoy free windows for life
am i missing something?

That's it. When I first installed LTSC I used my phone to look at the rentry guide to make sure I don't fuck something up.

Is there a way to recover deleted files in Windows 11 if the "restore previous versions" menu shows nothing? I tried using a program called Recoverit, and it even shows me the files I want to restore, but I'm asked to pay even when I torrent allegedly cracked versions.

No problem here. Are you another low-IQ that uses memescripts that modify/delete files in C:\Windows? Seems pretty much every problem niggers have with Windows updates trace back to doing this.
>>
>>102419662
We're achieving levels of brain-damage that shouldn't be possible.
Fuck off back to Linux where we don't have to suffer your negative IQ.

As someone who started using Windows at version 3.0, this was cool... for about 15 seconds. The nostalgia wore off the nanosecond I tried to right-click something.

It makes an acceptable minimal Windows PE shell - but why you'd choose it over Explorer++, even on PE, is beyond me.

I don't really understand the use case in sudo
Assuming a managed device and basic non admin user, the admin needs to log in to access powershell to begin with. We can now run commands as an admin but we need admin pw to even start typing any commands, what's the use case here that I am missing? I guess it could help for deploying software through intune? Thought intune ran as admin already anyway

>-Only if you fell for the 12th+ gen Intel meme and need the new CPU scheduler
What does this mean? I will set up a Win11 but don't understand what version of it is suitable to activate with MAS and have a longer support. The rentry.org guide also says:
>When choosing edition there will be two choices, LTSC and IoT LTSC, select IoT LTSC for HWID activation compatibility and longer support cycle.

Should I get one of those Win10 keys from ebay?
I have this copy since 2016. I have no idea where I got it originally.
>>
>>102428897
for some the p cores and e cores stuff is bullshit, mostly due to the fact that you get basically equal or better performance in Windows 10. It's still an ongoing debate specially now that W11 is getting more performance updates

as for the version, you can activate any version with the tool, IoT LTSC is the one with longer support

how do you install visual studio 2022 on windows 10 enterprise iot ltsc 2021?

Not sure if it's better to ask here or in the smartphone thread, but since it deals with the Windows side of things figured this was a better place to start. My phone (A Galaxy S21+ I've had for a few years now) has been bugging me to switch over from the old messages app it had been using to Google Messages for a while now. Finally decided to go ahead and do so, but it seemed like it broke Phone Link in Windows being able to view my messages properly, with them syncing occasionally (usually just when I remove and readd my phone) but otherwise not tending to stay current and just making it a pain to view my messages in general. Oddly when I decided to just login to the Google Messages web page on my PC to use that instead to get around this it seemed like it has been working ever since (even after closing the tab), but since it's only been a few hours I'm not sure if that's coincidental or not. Anyway anyone have any input on all that and/or if there's a good solution for it?
>>
>>102429981
Also googling a few days ago suggested it may be an issue with a lack of RCS support in Phone Link, though I'm a bit confused as to why opening Google's web app on my PC fixed it in Phone Link (at least for now)
