It's like this 4/10 type of girls with low expectations you take as girlfriends in the early years because anything else would be too mentally taxing to endeavour in the long run.
Forgiving and tunable to your likings but lacks in the faithfulness department and mentally not even close to you...
A Love-deprived girl, most likely because of lower class family with a cheating father and an unfaithful mother.
You can do anything you want with (or without) her but not in the social circles you would want to show up with her.
All in all it will keep you satisfied for longer time, just not truly happy.

Recently got a new pc (rx 6750 xt, ryzen 5 7500f). Currently using a decade old 1080p 60hz monitor and I have been pushing the decision for a new monitor away for months now bc i just cant decide whether i should get a 24‘‘ 1080p 144hz or make the leap to 27‘‘ 1440p. On one hand i think i played my whole life 1080p/60hz so even the change to 144hz on a modern 1080p monitor will be a huge difference but on the other hand i mostly play older games and use it for browsing and watching movies a lot so 1440p would make sense too)

Now the 1440p monitors cost atleast ~100€ more from what ive seen. A couple questions: How much performance on average is lost with 1440p compared to 1080p?
Does only using 1080p increase the lifetime of the hardware bc its less taxing? (I want this new pc to last atleast 5 ideally 7+ years).

Zoomers will actually buy a 240Hz 4k monitor that their GPU can't run natively, then activate DLSS to emulate the mid-2000s LCD panel experience.

All I know is I can play outrun2006 at over 200fps so that is all that matters.
>>
>>102467774
1440p has about 80% more pixels than 1080p so, very roughly speaking, it's about 80% more taxing at equal refresh rate. In the field this is going to vary a lot from game to game, however, so don't put too much stock in it. Check benchmarks of the games you actually play and see if the 6750XT is strong enough for them. For older games my guess is it will be. I myself play mostly old/indie games and get acceptable FPS with a weaker card than you.
Running 1080p would let your card last longer, yes, but I don't think that's a good way to look at it - this is an entertainment device so the value is fundamentally subjective. You don't judge your weekend car on its fuel economy.
I will say that 1440p is suboptimal for passive media because most of that is 1080p or 4k so fullscreen viewing will be blurred due to fractional scaling (on top of the loss of detail from upscaling). IMO it's not as big a deal as people make it out to be because most streaming/torrented content is compressed to hell from the factory - looks like crap no matter the res. The exception would be if you have a personal library of high quality 1080p media. Though if you're that much of a cinephile you probably don't watch it on your PC.
In your situation I would take 1440p because it's far better for gaming/web/office but only slightly worse for movies/TV. I'd maybe even consider 4k if you /only/ play old games that'll run fine on your 6750XT. Best of both worlds but your card will choke hard if you do get into modern games.

Thanks for this detailed answer! Yeah i dont even need to check, my gpu will definitely be able to run the older games i mostly want to play. I was more implying that 1440p would make sense since these type of games have such high fps anyways thateven a bigger drop wouldnt be noticeable but ofc the better resolution would be a great improvement for sure. And about the lifetime thing its just that I used my old pc for almost 10y before getting the new one and Im the type of guy who doesnt want to deal with all the planning or upgrading every 2-3y but instead have it last a long time. I even only updated drivers 2 times on the old one bc it just worked fine all those years lol. For movies I dont really torrent but watch on streaming sites in 1080p sometimes even 720p if its the only available option so Im completely fine if there would be a little bit of a negative on the media aspect. 4k is out of question tho, just too expensive for me. Makes me believe 1440p might be the right choice then.

I'm inclined to believe so as well. Do be advised that really old games, say <2010, might not play nice with 1440p. In my experience there's usually workarounds like modifying config files or just playing windowed but it's something to be aware of. I usually check PCgamingwiki in those cases.

Initially assembled everything in build, plugged power cable, keyboard and mouse into the back of the computer. Flipped the PSU switch on, hit the power button, nothing happened. Thought for a second, PLUGGED IT INTO THE SURGE PROTECTOR, the fans started "twitching" and a red light on the mobo was flashing. Turned PSU off, unplugged, looked at stuff, looked like the 24 pin mobo power AND GPU 8 pin power weren't ALL the way in. Pushed them farther in, plugged everything back in, hit the power button, still nothing happened. Unplugged everything again, unplugged the front panel connectors from the mobo to double check them against the pdf mobo manual, plugged them back in, I am at least 99% sure they are plugged in properly. Plugged everything back in, directly to the wall and have tried two different outlets (one of which had a WORKING monitor plugged into it), still nothing.

I'm out of ideas and ready to ask strangers. Would anyone like to speculate why this computer will not turn on, or give any other indication it's receiving any power?

Also checked the CPU power cable and it appeared to be all the way in, to the motherboard at least, I can check the PSU end of the things. Checking the CPU itself would be impractical as a cooler is already mounted to it, but I am fairly certain that was installed correctly. I very specifically made sure the "square" corners were matched. I also checked the manual for and was deliberate to install the RAM. I can double check that.

One more thought that occurs. The PSU end of the mobo power cable is split into two connectors like this. I had previous tried to google why and what to do with it, but found no answers Every other mobo power cable i saw on the internet appeared to have a solid 24 pin connector as I would expect. I plugged the larger connector to the slot on the PSU labeled "motherboard," which is a perfect fit, and just left the other half unplugged. I would imagine if I'm supposed to do something else, that would be the issue and I would be a retard.

Startup code for the nVidia usermode driver. The damn thing converts an ASCII string consisting of all non-NUL characters into UTF-16 multiple times in a row without so much an attempt to store the thing somewhere, store it in the static data segment, or use vector instructions to perform the conversion (CPUs with AVX support can convert 16 characters with a single instruction).

And then there was Windows startup code that performed copies within the same process, but instead of doing movs or memcpys it did a whole roundtrip to the kernel and back, wasting thousands of cycles ...

Assuming Germany prices,
a 7700 is MORE than a 7700X. It's also 70-80€ more than a 7600X, so think about whether you actually need that. Alternatively, you'll be able to get a 7600X3D for 40-50€ more.

For storage I'd ABSOLUTELY get 2tb, the QOL improvement from just having to worry about storage space significantly less is so nice. It's just 30€ more for an entry level one like NV2 or SN580 which is all most people need. That's just 30-35€ more.

For 1.5€ more, you can get the Gigabyte Gaming OC 7700xt, which has an extra fan and higher boost clock. Sapphire Pulse tends to be pretty shit from what I remember because it's an absolute budget tier model.

Yeah I'm just going off PCPP prices, it's hard to know all the prices in europe and what you can get things for.
>I read that gigabyte cards tend to have bad fans or/and coil whine. Plus I can just overclock the sapphire card a litte, right?
The sapphire pulse 7700xt specifically had a review saying it had coil whine. It's always a bit of a lottery & everyone can lose it.
I personally always try to get 3 fans unless the 2 fan model is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper

>>102469386
Looking at benchmarks, the 7700 performs marginally better (sub 5%) than the 7600 in games (which I default to assuming is the workload/focus). I'd argue that's not worth the 40€ at those prices, but if that's important to you or you see a lot of use for the extra cores go for it. 7700 vs 7600x seemed margin of error.

Oof, 4K under $1000 is tough. You are overpaying on the mobo, psu, ram, nvme, case, etc. Gimme a few minutes. Do you mind the GPU being used as for the money it would put you into a higher tier of gaming performance than what is available new.

Doesn't need to be. If he's sitting further away from the screen 1080p will probably be fine. And upscaling from 1080p to 4k with DLSS works well enough for most cases like this.
Also, it's probably a 60hz panel so no need for high frame rate gaming.

Alright this is my primary recommendation (pictured):
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/z8fwTY
The 12600K is at parity with the 5600(X) in games but is significantly faster it in general usage apps by 14%:
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-9-9950x/27.html
Swapped around some overpriced parts and took the savings and upgraded your GPU from a 7600 XT to a 7900 GRE which brings your average FPS @ 4K from 32 to 64 (literally double). I realize I'm veeery slightly over budget by $20 (I tried everything without major sacrifices) but it's really worth those last $20 out of $1000 for the performance in my view.

If $1000 is an iron ceiling I did make an identical build around the 5600 (enable PBO in BIOS during startup configuring to make it perform like a 5600X) which again performs on par with the 12600K in games but falls behind elsewhere. Both won't bottleneck the 7900 GRE at 4K. Just sneaks under the limit.

What made you switch from console?
For me, I initially got into PS5 due to the value, but months later when I looked back I realized that I could've bought a 4090 and pirated all the games or got them for really cheap instead with the money I spent on the whole PS5 ecosystem. It's crazy but that's how they get you.

Just to drive the point home:
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/xfx-radeon-rx-7900-xtx-magnetic-air/36.html
Even with the much beefier GPU, native 4K is brutal so don't expect max settings but turning settings down to a combo of High/Mid and/or using 1440p upscaling should make things smooth. Also this a worse case scenario test bench of the most graphically demanding AAA titles. Older and less intensive titles will deliver far better results.

I never really "switched", it was a matter of what I could afford
At some point I could afford to play some 360 games on PC and that was it, that was the last generation where I considered consoles other than Nintendo stuff (I even skip that, I bought a switch only a year ago). It's depressing seeing shelves full of games and there's like 2 or 3 exclusive ones for consoles and the ones for PS5 and Series X look stupidly similar.
Might be my boomer ass but I miss when shelves were different.

Fellas, it's time for an upgrade.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/sVdL6D
This is the shitbox I've been running for about a little over a decade now. The GPU and RAM were scavenged off a friend's old build that he scrapped for an upgrade. The monitor and SSD are the only pc components I've actually bought to replace since I built the thing so I'm well out of date when it comes to actually planning out a new build.

I would keep using this old rig until it gave up the ghost, but I use this for remote work and some of the software involved now requires DX12.2, which the GPU doesn't support. The Motherboard is slowly failing, one of the RAM sticks is dead, and the CPU struggles handling Chrome so I'm probably just going to take this opportunity to make a new build.

So I'm looking to build a PC in Canada under 1k CAD (budgeting is a priority). Work software is not normally resource intensive and most of the gaming I do is RTS and Grand Strategy so I'm looking mainly at middle of the line. Just something that's robust and ideally widely compatible so I can continue to upgrade as necessary over the next decade.
>>

He has 12 minutes per stop.
Grabbing the package 1 minute, ringing the doorbell and waiting to answer 1 minute, signing off, another minute.
Then get back in van, select next address, other minute gone. He now has 8 minutes to get to the next one in time.
But if nobody is home, he loses 2 extra minutes just putting the package back and doing the work to put it as "customer not home". If that's the case, only 6 minutes left.

That's not a lot of time.

Is it considered weird to build your own NAS?
I see alot of people buy QNAP and Synology shitboxes after building a whole ass PC, when they are ultra proprietary hardware.
>>
>>102471867
If all you have is a laptop and you're afraid of the command line, and you want it to work out of the box, tomorrow, then it makes sense to buy one.
If all you want is a data backup, you can get 99% of the utility by just putting a bunch of storage in an old PC, and plugging it in once a month to run rsync or robocopy.
If you really want a server then a proper ZFS home NAS can be built better from scratch for less and be far more upgradeable.
But again, a home server is basically a fidget spinner for most of the people that set them up.

proprietary software is the real issue, especially disk partitioning abstraction layers. both qnap and synology use their own logical volumes systems that can only be mounted on similar devices, even generation upgrade is not always possible.
for the price of a qnap or synology I'd much rather build my own, try to find hp microserver, or if 4 bays are enough get ultra low end asustor that's like $200 and use the rest on bigger hdds.
hp and asustor are both notable for using no proprietary and minimal amount of otherwise custom software, just a regular no nonsense smb/ftp on ext4 on mdadm on bare metal.

Alright then for new GPUs according to https://bestvaluegpu.com/ your best options are:
RX 6750 XT 12GB for $300: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CH1R789W
RX 6800 16GB for $350: https://www.jawa.gg/product/43599/rx6800-16gb-vram

They are each 134% & 165% faster than the RX 590 respectively:

Is it worth upgraing my 6700 xt? I am running it with a 7800x3d on a 1440p and 1080p gaming monitor depending on use case. Everything runs 100+ fps but I feel like I need MORE. The mid level upgrades to a 4070 s or 7900 GRE just don't seem worth it.

No, at least wait for RTX 5000 & RDNA4 chips to launch. Current gen was a disappointment from both sides.

I also know Nvdia has fancy tech like DLSS and ray tracing so at equal price it would be better right?

Is it worth it bros?
The cheapest 7800XT is €90 more expensive and is barely more performant, also 6800XT doesn't suffer from software issues as much because it's a monolithic GPU (which RDNA 4 will also be). It consumes a bit more power but ironically it also has better idle and multi-monitor performance performance

Man, picking a GPU at this point in time is fucking torture.

DLSS is just a cope for when your GPU is too slow to run native resolution, RT looks nice but at that performance point it's not practical.

>Is a 4060 for 300 bucks a good deal? It seems to perform slightly better and for the same price.
The plain vanilla 4060? Absolutely not, it vs a 6750 XT/6800 is the difference between 45 and 60-67 FPS minimum.
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/xfx-radeon-rx-7900-xtx-magnetic-air/36.html
As far as features like DLSS & RT they are either crutches for a lack of native performance or take such a colossal framerate hit you'll rarely enable them (at least at this price level).

How hard should I tigthen the spring screws on the CPU cooler? Enough that the cooler won't move but not enough that I have to apply strength when tightening, I assume?
>>
I'm thinking of buying a new LCD monitor to replace my Eizo EV2450, which isn't bad at all, however it's a basic bitch monitor, and I imagine there are far better options now. I'm specifically looking for something that would be best suited for media consoomption. Requirements
>Budget
Around 100 euro because I'm a poorfag. I could pay slightly more than that if it's worth it. I don't mind a 2nd hand monitor.
>Panel type
Preferably VA because of the better contrast
>Size
24-25", my desk too small to fit a 27". No curved panels.
Other nice features would include at least 120Hz for less jitter during playback, 10bit bit depth or at least true 8bit. I don't care about gayming performance in the slightest, I have my CRT for that. Wide colour gamut isn't too important since most content is in sRGB anyway. With all that said, which monitor would best fit my requirements?
>>
>>102472979
Sure, do what you gotta go.

>Enough that the cooler won't move but not enough that I have to apply strength when tightening, I assume?
Enough until you meet significant resistance and then stop.

The springs are there to prevent over tightening. You should tighten them up until they feel like they shouldn't move any more without applying tard rage levels of force.

Nah, government export laws
Intel, Nvidia and AMD are barred from supplying their highest end hardware to any company not friendly with the US government.
It's why China has the 4090D, it's also why they ger weird versions of CPUs that are cut down in strange ways, it's why every other week there is some Chinese women smuggling hundreds of i7s and i9s, no because it's cheaper but because they don't have access
This would extend to chipsets too.

Occasionally this shit would fall off a truck but even that is getting harder as companies move production out of china, boards used to be almost made all in China but my last 2 was from Vietnam
