Should I go for a triple fan 4070S or will a dual fan config work fine for that GPU?
>>
>>102860059
The answer is unfortunately still a lot on Windows, it's still the same bullshit since the beginning of CCDs.
>Xbox bar or whatever the fuck it's called required for correct core delegation
>process lasso often required as well
>stuttering when tabbing in/out of games sometimes
>potentially trips some kernel anti-cheats according to some reports (could be outdated)
these are potential problems, not saying that you will necessarily experience them. If you need a best of both worlds CPU that does work and play, the 7950X3D is the one if you can manage some wrangling.
otherwise 7800X3D basically just works because it's hardware level management. Linux on the other hand has essentially no issues managing the dual CCDs, but then again you're not really running multimedia tasks on Linux kek

I'm running the latest bios and windows, maybe that helps, but I haven't found a game which dips below 120fps at 4k and honestly that's what I wanted out of it. It's paired with a 4090. When I was deciding what to buy I saw the same reports about the ccds and I almost got the 7800x3d but I use the pc for video editing and I really appreciate the cores. I upgrade every 6 years or so I wanted something which will last. I know it costs lots but I like it. There might be better ones soon to be honest.

I do not understand this obsession with VRAM. The only reason we're seeing more VRAM usage than necessary is because of incompetent devs and UE5 slop. Game devs are actually retarded and don't optimise for shit, because they hire women and niggers now. You don't need a huge amount of VRAM for any well made game, even 8gb is enough.

update on my AOC 25G3ZM monitor cope about high minimum brightness
turing color red/green/blue down to e.g. 25/25/25 from 50/50/50 will have the effect of making it less bright so you don't need to adjust the contrast in the graphics card driver software. it doesn't crush RGB(1,1,1) blacks or RGB(254,254,254) whites. set "gamma 3" and then use the gamma slider in windows built in calibration tool to get it almost perfectly neutral. then you change red/green/blue to e.g. 50/50/50 when you want normal brightness and maximum contrast. in AMD adrenalin there's a counter intuitive name for a setting, set color temperature control to disabled and it does some wizardry to emulate sRGB quite accurately even though it's natively a wide gamut display.
>>

Yes to a degree.
There was some pretty tragic eras in hardware like the capacitor plague era and the introduction of lead free solder, as well as just general unreliability with certain select hardware.

If it seems like times are especially bad it's because hardware is getting more expensive but reliability isn't matching it. If your $200 GPU died 20 years ago, you're more likely to outright replace it because it wasn't that expensive to begin with and you can probably find it cheaper if it's a year or two into being released.

Nowadays everything has just blown past inflation in price, any breakage now stings. If your $1000 GPU dies, your not going to find a cheap replacement. Your are now reliant on arguably very hostile companies that don't like doing RMAs to having a working GPU.
Something can be said about the modern internet making failures much more public and viral as compared to forums where hardware is discussed.

The Vanilla 5000 series will if rumors are even close to true, be historically underspecced and a godawful bait for early adopters before the SUPER Refresh actually gives a meaningful price/performance advancement. I'd buy a 4070S on a BF deal if available, otherwise you're waiting a year or so for the 5070S to come out.

does Seasonic even make a good PSU? i thought their bread and butter were the cheap PSUs that come bundled with low-end cases
>>
>>102861728

>>
>>102861871

it's unlikely both PSUs are broken, did you try the old one?
Maybe you got the unlucky combination of an old broken gpu and a new broken psu
>>
>>102862174
What? Did you confuse seasonic with fsp? Seasonic is the premium psu manufacturer and they mostly do retail and indistrial, sometimes manufacturing top tier models for other brands.
>>
>>102862174
Seasonic is a higher-end PSU manufacturer, with their better units on a 12-year warranty.
You don't see their consumer PSUs recommended here often because the market's competitive and there are more affordable options that are good enough.
>>
>>102862154
Anon, the regular TX-1600 costs $600
Now add the price of brown paint on top
>>
>>102861728
If the 4070 super magically sells for around the lower $400 range I'll return my 7800xt and buy that instead. I'm not spending more than $500 for a GPU. But I doubt Nvidia will be that generous.
>>
After a year of weekly crashes and then multiple times daily for a month on idle/low load and now 2 months without crashes I can safely conclude that it was AMD's C-states that caused it. Not a single crash since I turned it off in the bios.
>>
>>102862293
If every fan of the PC turns on fine, including the GPU, I wouldn't assume the PSU is the issue. I'll try stuff tonight, if it doesn't work I'll ask a friend with a car to bring me to a repair shop or something

My main suspect would be the motherboard's GPU slot, my old card was very heavy and might have bent it. I hope it's not that though, I don't have the money for a new motherboard right now especially if I also spend in a shop

Thanks anyways, I'll try different PCIEs in the meantime

Hello I want an opinion.

I wanna build a PC around a SAPPHIRE 16GB RX 7800 XT that I can find relatively cheap at a local store.

they have/had a good reputation but were ironically the ones with the most reports of coil whine (corsair used a bunch of different OEMs so they nooticed). especially in EU with 230V 50hz you might notice a lower pitch transformer buzz if you have low ambient noise but the flextronics manufactured models like AX760i/AX860i actually had little to no high pitch coil whine. there is a ticking noise from the fan testing every 10 seconds but you can fix that with a fan swap.

I personally think buying any AM4 CPU other than a 5700x3d off ali or in the ABSOLUTE pennypinching scenario, a 5600(x) is a mistake. How much are you paying for that in comparison to this? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3256806921974699.html
16gb is workable but I absolutely would not build a system with it nowadays, 32gb just allows you to not have to worry about ram every single fucking time you do anything
MAG A-BN is "okay", not good. See if you could get a better one from this list https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/ without spending an exorbitant amount

Hey /g/
I have an MSI MPG B550 gaming plus mobo and a Ryzen 7 5800X3d cpu. I also have a 6900xt GPU and 32 GB RAM.
I bought another M.2 SSD for the second slot. I installed it. In Bios setting the mobo recognizes it but when I boot into the OS I can't see any drive in This Computer folder.
I was thinking a bios update might help. The thing is I suspect only one BIOS version supports 5800x3d. The mobo natively supports older CPUs.
I want to know if I am wrong or right in wanting to update it.

Ryzen 3 is only viable when they have issues with yields and have a lot of silicon that doesn’t pass inspection. Those Zen 2 yield issues gave us bargain CPUs like the 3100 and the 3600 (non X) that were nothing but CCDs with only 2 or 3 decent functional cores. They didnt cut good silicon to make those bargains. It was just bad silicon. Yields have been much better since Zen 3 and therr really hasn’t been enough failed chips to sells as Ryzen 3

I have a 7800x3d and every single thing I've seen online tells me that this CPU is too much for an ITX build and requires undervolting and lots of extensive cooling autism. I've never done SFF before so I'm understandably worried.

Furthermore, I plan on buying a xx90 or xx80 series card in the future and this will just make things worse.

The best decision I ever made was getting a pretty good Peerless Assassin which I will reuse if I find a case that fits it. It keeps my temps pretty low.

your breakers arent gonna be what catches fire when your wire in the wall overheats
>>
>>102865809
No, regular wire is rated for 15A continuous. Besides, are you using the full 1500+W for over 3 hours at a time? That's some PC.

It doesn't. I thought sagging was a gradual over time kind of thing.

Getting real tired of waiting for the 9800x3d
>>
>>102865837
there is no "regular wire", there's many different gauges and they all have different ratings
at minimum you have 14 awg on a 15a circuit, with a continuous load rating of 12a, thats the electrical code
>>
>>102865802
is there any reason to believe 18A will be better than arrow lake and not just another 2 year wait for a +5% performance boost?
>>
>>102865933
Because Lunar Lake already addressed some of the cache memory latency issues existing in Meteor Lake & Arrow Lake's disaggregated tiles.

That's the code, yes, but the wire I have is 14Ga and says it's rated for 15A continuous. So the code is just being conservative, it's fine running 15A.

Like I said, that's just because of the code. The wire itself is rated for 100%. But in building applications it's listed as 80%, but somehow for all other applications it's allowed to be 100%.

>>102866354
you're just wrong though, your wire doesnt say anywhere on it that it's rated for 15a for continuous load, that's not something that would be listed on any wire or even make sense to list it on any wire because of voltage drop over longe runs and temperature differential in walls, both directly affecting amp capacity in the wire
>>
>>102866384
I never said I read it off the wire, you can get the specs from the manufacturer.
>>
>>102866389
they're not gonna list that either, at best they'll give you max amperage (not continuous) under optimal conditions
you're just making shit up
>>
>>102866364
For me its better because b650e and x670e boards are more expensive. Also, wifi 7 and usb 40 giga bit is pretty cool. The ethernet is 2.5 giga bit, but wifi is faster? The usb is faster? That's wild.

I'm skeptical of the wifi, that's 40Gb/s for the whole wifi network, so you're sharing that with anyone else running wifi. The 2.5Gb ethernet is guaranteed full all the time. But yeah, 10Gbit would be nice. But you can get a pcie card because it has an extra slot.

Yes. You'll save more money by just putting that money in stocks or whatever, then immediately buying a part you need in a local store even if it's not the best price rather than buying depreciating parts on the off chance you need them

14 gauge wire is good for 15 continuous amps.
Building codes allow for 15 amps continuous, it's why your breaker is 15 amps.

The 80% max load is for appliances only, there is not one particular reason why it exists. It's just a requirement that is a good practice, it can prevent both safety issues and general annoyance. One of the reasons is that an 1800W appliance ties up the whole circuit and almost no household has dedicated circuits to a single outlet, so it prevents alot of tripping
