tldr, laptop recommendations?work might have me traveling a bit in the near future. recently I've started doing commissions for people and I'm trying to build up a reputation so it pays off, but I can't really bring my whole PC setup with me on the road so I'm thinking about getting a low end laptop, just enough to run clip studio and run youtube in the background. I have an old iPad already but I don't really like it, can't say why. >captcha KREM8>cremateam i gonna die if i go on this trip

I plan to use the cooler that came with the CPU.The pre-applied thermal material looks like this (only slightly off-center).Is it fine? Are the empty spaces going to fill in once pressure is applied?

>>102867291AIO has two major benefits:Able to relocate the heat exchanger (radiator). This is surprisingly useful especially for smaller form factor builds.Far greater thermal mass because of the first point which means you can more effectively cool things down.I don't think there's a scenario today where you need an AIO for a typical desktop CPU if you dont have case size restraints. For example, I have one of the most notoriously difficult CPUs to cool, a 5800x3D, and a Noctua D15 is entirely adequate. You could rock a Thermal Spirit 120 SE to get the price down significantly (50$ I think). So, unless you have money to burn on aesthetics or have an actual need for an AIO in a small Factor build. you can largely ignore them.
>>102867449Yes and yes.The major downside to stock coolers is noise. Fan runs high speed and often. Otherwise they are just fine.
>>102867577fuck I love my 5800x3d. Such a good purchase to go AMD on the 5600x back in the day. picked up a 5800x3d cheap and its been amazing.

>>102867638Will the AIO not improve the performance? It seems my 7950x gets up to the throttling temperature almost right away with all cores going & using air cooling. I'd like to get all over 5GHz. Is a custom solution needed for that?
>>102867686yes
>>102867686Just make sure you're not using conductive paste or something and then it won't matter.

>>102867689Volt limit it, they ship it with a dumb power envelope. PBO will always push the chip to 90 without restrictions. You only lose something like 10% performance and you can claw back 10C+ in thermals by volt limiting it.

>>102867689Depends what youre trying to do. If youre running prime95 as a benchmark on a CPU like that youre going to max out temps no matter what conventional means you use (AiO or air cooled) unless maybe you shove a 420mm radiator in there and have fans maxed out . FYI on high end CPUs its not really a good benchmark. Something more realistic like Cinebench would be better for real world benchmarking. In my opinion air cool like ps120se or d15 is just as good as AIO up to 360mm where it breaks even. That being said for a beast of a cpu like that, Id do 360mm AIO just for the larger thermal mass as it would mean smoother temperature curves and less aggressive fan speed changes.Hope this helps.
>>102867771read the manual u retard it shows you how to do it

There's nothing wrong with the corsair 4000d airflow case. It's a perfectly adequate case for a decent price, even better when it's on sale.

I'll admit that I glossed over what anon was asking for though, in his case he probably doesn't have much room for adjustment.
Finally finished switching out the CPU after way too long. Some freaking thermal paste somehow flung from the tube and onto a nearby component. My attempt at cleaning it up resulted in a delay as the towel broke into pieces making a new mess to clean all while the CPU had thermal paste on it. Was like up to 30 minutes I left it on there without attaching the CPU cooler. Will that be a problem?I'm however paranoid thermal paste got on the carpet considering I somehow didn't even see that bit of paste fling onto a component like 4 inches away from the CPU. How do I even make sure I don't have this on the carpet? Is it normal that after booting the PC the first turn on took like 15 seconds before the screen showed anything when I have an SSD that's typically already on the desktop view within that time?

You should already own one if you live in a house. you can rent one from nearby stores or buy a 300 dollar one on amazon.
>>102867967>>102867991There is no use waiting for stuff anymore, I don't know how you guys haven't realized this. Companies specifically do limited production runs and adjust prices dynamically according to their fab costs and distribution figures. Even if some products get cheaper further into the future, the odds are that you'll simply miss out on them because they're produced in such limited numbers nowadays. Even a lot of X670 boards have dried up

>>102868142>360 aio won't be enough to offer much improvement over my air cooler? You'll get hysteresis benefits but otherwise the only thing that gives you performance headroom is a 420mm AIO. >>102868245Nothing that justifies watercooling anything?
>>102868239No, I can fit a 420mm radiator. I was just asking. Most people say air cooling is all you need so I didn't really think much about it, that's all. It works fine as is, but extra performance would be nice.

>>102868039remember when Intel made fun of AMD for gluing chiplets together
>>102868311Alright I'll hit you with one last reply because you're pleasant. You are asking for pinning your CPU to max all core sustained clocks on a notoriously hot chip. That's a bit different to most of the people in this thread who are just playing games on their rigs, just keep that in mind. My take on it is that you might as well drive the temps down as far as possible while achieving these clocks, so a 420mm is the answer. 420mm also has better surface area configuration for cooling (distance from inlet/outlet to nearest surface area) and quieter 140mm fans.
>>102868363YesI also remember when Intel glued two housefire CPU's together
On the product page for my motherboard one of the highlight features is "Hi-Density Power Connectors; 8 pin 12v Power Connectors"https://www.asrock.com/MB/Intel/B760M%20Pro%20RSD4/index.it.aspIs this just the normal CPU connector?
