Everything is already from China, but in here we discuss the cheap chink shit you see on various sites.

1st rule of /csg/: if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

those are good if you are (de)soldering something using hot air or a large thermal mass iron, but the grip is terrible. to this day, the best grip on tweezers i could find is still on the ones used by femoids for their irl face filter shit. ask your nearest fembot if you can borrow her tweezers to test out, then if they fit your needs have her buy you another pair

That's a valid dispute reason, take a photo of the connector where you can see that it has only 4 pins and you'll get your money back. That's what I did when it happened to me.

On a unrelated note, good haul. Only those tweezers are absolute ass, literally so bad I threw mine away.

>>102929988
I'm pretty sure the anons mean the tweezers not the cutters. Those work just fine, I have 2 of them myself, use them for 3d prints mostly, but also sometimes for wire if my multitool or wirecutters aren't in reach. If you leave them anywhere with some air moisture they will eventually rust, but a simple overnight bath in some citric acid or vinegar fixes that (not that it inhibits function in any way). If you oil them after the bath they even keep fresh again for ages.

I've had the mhp30 USB-C smd hotplate by Miniware (the guys who invented the TS100) on my wishlist for a while. It sounds kinda neat, but I don't do enough SMD work to justify 100€. However I stumbled upon picrel (right side) in the bundles section for 10,50€, which looks like a cheap version of the same idea. I don't have high expectations regarding temperature accuracy or proper grounding, but I ordered it and will report back when it arrives. Worst case some dude in the reviews seemed to use his as a cup warmer, which still sounds kinda based as a usecase.

On a related note, anyone know what happened to Miniware? I like their stuff and they had a good bit of brand recognition going, but their .cn site is down and they seem to have rebranded as "morningtools" for some fucking reason. Only idea I have is that it may be because the miniware.com domain belongs to some children's dishes store and as a result their SEO is so fucked they are borderline unfindable, but at least keep your old domain up and redirect or something, they are really hard to find now.

that seems like a manufacturing error, the tips should touch before it starts to spread apart (with something in the tip it should never even spread). maybe remove the screws holding the ceramic parts, and slightly tweak each the metal arms inwards a bit (do not exceed 1mm total, the tip will exaggerate the change), try doing it using a couple small pliers, one to hold and one to apply the bending force. again, do not bend it too much, we are talking hundreds of microns here

Review of a "work" flashlight i got
So i wanted a flashlight for working in dark/tight spaces so i got this
>2x18650 batteries (came included, kinda shit performance with 30min at full brightness)
>USB-c port for charging
>pretty bright dimmable COB
>alternative "simple" two led mode
>COB encased in an aluminum body that can open up to 90°, also this helps with the heat as it gets pretty hot when using at full brightness
>strong neodymium magnet on the base as well a small clip for hanging
>despite feeling rugged plastic it doesn't seem to be waterproof, battery cover is secured with a small screw
>it's supposed to work also as a powerbank with a USB-A port but I don't need it/don't trust it

in sweden, the last couple of ~$10 orders went to a postal office and having to show ID with the option to redirect to a parcel locker. it would be awkward to have to collect dozens of parcels like this. a few bucks worth of USB cables went to my mailbox but that was a couple of months ago, not sure of the current situation. anyone noticed anything like this with a change of logistics?

>>
>>102933196
Nope, but I'm also not from Sweden, so that's not surprising.
Had a similar situation a year ago, my usual post office dude changed. The old dude used to ring the doorbell and if no one was home (99% of the time) just put the parcel in front of the door or into the stairway. The new guy rang and if no one was home delivered it to the post office where I had to go to pick it up. Thankfully after a month he stopped, because that would have been really annoying. I did instruct our delivery dude to place the items in front of the door on their website just in case as well.
My packages arrive the normal way again, so I hope it'll be similar for you.

that has to be a problem with the pickup part of the capacitance thing (bottom right on pic related, small vertical traces on the small pcb), otherwise the strip would be upside down, so maybe a short or something? after you get your full refund, open it up and see if there is a little piece of metal or solder connecting two of the pickup traces (probably the least significant ones, since it only measures half of the changes, so on one of the edges)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKSSY1gzCEs (this is probably the video >>102933612 is referring to)
also a little advice, those things still use the battery as much while turned-off/sleeping as turned on, so if you are going to store it for more than a day remove the cell first.
there is also a custom data export port on the side above the battery, in case you want automate some measurements with that thing

well yeah, but those are easily 10x the price of these $3 plastic ones, for an anon that doesnt do precision metal machinery its kinda pointless. a $7 analog micrometer + one of these cheap plastic digital calipers is a much more useful combination, and cheaper, than a single mitutoyo caliper for a home gamer (i know cause if walked both paths, a generic vernier metal caliper is the same price as one of these plastic digital ones)

>that's actually pretty fucking bad from a caliper.
Yeah that's why I got the better ones. The ±1mm was a cheap one from the bundles section for like 1,50€. To be fair it seemed to be more accurate if you didn't pull it apart quickly and thus it was just good enough for 3d printing with my piece of shit ender, but I still got fed up with it and got myself metal ones that (as far as I can tell) seem to be accurate.

This Gundam mouse from the bundle deal died a week in. Opened it up and found it uses a li-ion battery shaped like a stick of gum, fully bloated.
The case has a compartment for a 14500 battery so I snipped the wires and taped them onto a spare I had. It worked... for a few hours, but as I expected I can't charge it via the usb-c so into the bin it goes

I'll have you fags know that it's a risk now to buy xiaomeme since they now disallow mi unlock tool if the purchased phone (refurbish or otherwise chinese hardware variant) does not match where you made the account for unlock and its sim included w/e. that said it is impossible to unlock at all when it used to be few clicks or wait time.
just letting you guys know, there are xiaomi resellers that also jumped ship after that policy and they unlocked everything in their stock since there would be no way to unlock them for the global/foreign buyers.

I clipped off a bit more plastic and got thin steel wire to create more surface area for the contact points and swapped it with another 14500 battery.

>>102939831
I'm not entirely sure. There was a chip on the original battery which I assume regulates the current and cuts it off when it's full. It's a very nice mouse which feels good in the hand, but a new "602040" battery is $8.20 which is double the mouse itself. It really feels like a waste if I can't use it even if it's cheap.

>>102940408

>>
>>102940655
so you got it to charge now?
>>
>>102940870
Not sure.

It's a different battery. The original battery charges via the usb-c but also has a chip.
The 14500 battery replacement has no chip and I assume doesn't get the juice fast enough? But then again when I plug in the cable the blue light below lights up. We'll see in a few hours when it empties.
>>
>>102940970
that chip on the battery is probably just a protection circuit, at least i hope it is, unless the usb-c vbus is directly connected to the battery terminals. do you have a multimeter that you can use to check if with the usb-c cable plugged in the battery positive cables gets 5v on it? it is literally physically impossible to extract 3ah of a aaa nimh cell. the aa rating is exaggerated as well, expect something like 2.8ah from the best cells

Okay, thanks. At this price 2.8ah doesn't sound too bad, considering I'll probably only use them in clocks, remotes, etc. I'm good as long as they don't leak or explode.

I have a set of Energizer rechargeables for my controllers which I expect better performance from.

qshave , mingshi it's all the same stuff, it does have 6 adjustment levels, in reality it's a continuous spring action that changes the razor angle , search youtube for some videos, i have the mingshi one and it's good only difference is that it came in a not so fancy box like the qshave
>>

those chink green aa cells wont be 2.8ah, they wont even be half of that, all of them score bellow 1.2ah with most being about 800mah. yes, it sucks.
chink pkcell branded ones are decent.
but if you have an aldi/lidl/ikea near you, their nimh cells are very good, on pair with enerloop, and not that expensive as well (a pack of 4 lidl aa 2.8ah cells is $4)

I have used a shave for many years. It's nothing too fancy, but I really like it. Compared to some other razors it's got a pretty aggressive angle, which I like, it means it gets the job done fast and works well for stuff like body hair like under the arms and stuff. If you've never used a razor before that more aggressive angle might be a negative because the risk of fucking your skin up is slightly higher, but that just means a little blood and irritated skin for a day - a great motivator to learn your lesson. I own a gilette safety razor too and it's pretty ass, it's safer, but in return it needs multiple passes to do its job well, I much prefer the shave personally.

As you know, Taobao is B2C platform like Amazon. But there must be chink C2C platform too like Mercari or Craigslist? That's Xianyu.
That means you will find all kind items listed, and mostly prices are cheaper compared to Taobao. On downside they got usual anti-bot limitations so you will need account petty quickly, and for that you need verified Alipay account. Also you need communicate with sellers to buy items, so that's why Taobao agents do charge small fee.

I've had the same issue, but there's no way to verify accuracy without some reference. I think you may have to buy the expensive version to get accuracy. Same for the guy with the digital caliper.

Actually if you have enough chinkshit hygrometers by different brands you are starting to sort of build a probability cloud of what the real value is and can toss the more wild ones. I got 4 overall and 3 of them agree on one value, one is wildly off, so I tossed that one.

Metal buckles, good seams, good quality zipper. Only downside is it doesn't have rain protection because of the canvas, but if you spray it with some silicone spray (those to waterproof textiles and shoes) you have rain resistance for about a year.

I got an Attack Shark X6 awhile back for $20, same sensor and fairly similar design to the VXE R1 aside from some different button locations.
Had wireless stuttering issues like the other anon, but the charging dock has a port for the wireless dongle so it can be moved away from any interference and that fixed it completely.
Quirks: the mouse doesn't read battery life properly on the stock firmware, this fixes properly after updating. Scroll wheel design annoyingly lets dust and debris into the mouse, but it's the same wheel as the R1 so whatever.

I don't have that specific one, but they do come in handy. Quality depends on the stiffness of the arms, there's a sweet spot - too stiff and getting a good position is hard, too soft and it can't hold any boards.
For individual wires I usually don't worry and instead just jam them in a 3d printed solder helper, but for board repairs or soldering to headers they are quite nice.

Nta, but what do you want to solder?
For wires I find those 3d printed helpers quite helpful (picrel left), for boards I do like the ones with crocodile clamps, but they need to either have a heavy base or - even better - a clamp to secure it to the table.
For boards a small plastic vice, ideally with adjustable angle, similar to picrel on the right can be nice.
Both pics are from from bambulab, but thingiverse etc have similar ones.

I changed out the battery in my brother's phone recently and I used a wet hand towel in a freezer bag with all the air pressed out microwaved for a minute or two. It made a nice hot pad to just leave the phone on and evenly heat.

Mounting will always suck. Just take 2kg of scrap metal plate and bolt it in. Give it some rubber feet and you will have a very solid mount.
And I have both the metal one and this blue pipe one, but I prefer the pipe one anyway. The metal one is cheap, so it's poorly made. If I do bulk work I will just 3D print some jig for it.

>Do you have the dongle next to the mouse on your desk?
Yes, tried connecting to the USB hub and back of the PC
Most likely problem is the router with 2.4ghz wi-fi standing right next to the desk
>>
>>102974171
Impossible to tell without having your hands on it. Conceptually it seems fine, those spacers for the bottom of the board can be nice, but how good it is to work with is going to depend on how well or badly they articulate.
>>
>>102974965
>I need to open up an old phone (glass sandwich style) and take out the battery
Depending on the phone this is super easy or super hard.
>Do I really need to a special heat gun for it? Or can a normal hairdryer do?
You can totally make do with a hairdryer. If you have one of those heat pads with the crystals inside that produce heat in the winter, even better. Ifixit also sells some gel thingy that you can heat in the microwave, but I've always gotten it done with a normal ass hairdryer. If it doesn't get hot enough, partially block the intake so it has less airflow, immediately results in more heat. Just don't block it totally and for too long or you can fry your dryer.
>Also what else would I need for the job? I've already got a big screwdriver set and a spudger thing
Spudger is nice, screwdrivers are a must, some plastic sheets to pull stuff up and pry without instantly scratching everything are nice (guitar picks are great for this, also cheap phone repair bit sets have thicker guitar picks and a plastic prybar by default). A old plastic card can work if you don't have anything else too.
A magnetic mat is nice to have, but you can totally get things done with a old plastic card, bit set and a hairdryer.
>(Gonna do an AliExpress shop so wanna get everything I want I can think of into the cart)
Honestly you'll be cheapest with one of those ultra cheap 117 in 1 bitsets(8€ in a bundle deal). The bits will be made from the most buttery of chinesium alloys, but electronics repair doesn't require much torque so it doesn't really matter. If you already have one, there are sets with just the plastic parts for phone repair, might save a buck or two that way.
Give ifixit a visit too, they will have a solid guide with info on what to pay attention to.
Just pay attention that ifixit will advise you to buy their stuff like the heat applicator which you don't need, but usually they say that you can use a hair dryer too.

The actual chinkshit isn't found in brick and mortar stores, you go to the markets. There are indoor markets that much more closely resemble chinkshit, small booths with sellers who specialize in one thing (like just soldering irons, or just microscopes, or just phone parts etc.).
But there are no fixed prices, you have to haggle and they will try to fuck you over when they see that you are a filthy guailo. Still cheaper even with being taken advantage of though, kek.

For the price, they're good. I see alot of wildlife like eagles, hawks a bit clearer now. I'd say spend at least $40 and you can get a very good one.

I want to get into photography, mostly do outdoors shots of the sea and birds.
Is chink shit good enough for this? I don't want to break the bank for a canon or sony camera.
>>
>>102980553
For the camera body no. You'll want to stick to japanese/western brands, fortunately that is the less costly part of the setup. A decent used aps-c crop camera body will run for about $500.
For lenses chinks produce some amazing third-party ones. brands such as TTartisan and Viltrox make quality glass for often half or a third of the price of a comparable first-party lens. They usually aren't as good but are close enough.
Personally I tried ordering a chepo TTartisan from Ali "TTartisan outlet store" and not only was it well packaged and protected but it was my fastest order from mainland China to EU ever (among hundreds of orders since 2016), in just 5 working days.
If you're planning to do bird photography you'll want a telephoto lens and those get very expensive so chink ones would save you a lot of cost.

I don't really mind spending 500-600 bucks in a good camera if I'm going to use it, but the thing is I'm in a "testing the waters" phase right now and I don't really want a paperweight that expensive in case I don't really dig this hobby.
Does buying something in the 100-200 bucks range even makes sense or should I just stick with my phone to get started?

Is that a bad thing? I had class in school that went through some of those algorithms and they seem pretty based. Or I would personally desire in digital camera to have the ability to turn them on or off. But some of them go beyond raw processing, they do require certain hardware and it would be a pitty to shill out few hundred for camera that doesn't have those capabilities like your smartphone has.

While not what you're asking for, it is related
Consider a 3D printer, there's so many things you can fidget with from relatively simple to pretty complex that you can print out and fuck around with. Due to the nature of the 3D printer, each one will be pretty fucking cheap to make. Obviously the big upfront cost makes it not too appealing if you don't have other uses for the 3D printer but hey

I'm looking for a flashlight for emergency situations. I was considering what would be optimal for this and came up with these requirements:
>red and/or green LED, for more optimal efficiency than white and keeping some night vision
>low light output (mode available)
>built in hardware to cap battery charging, to prevent battery degradation when not in use
>small form factor, so I won't mind keeping it in my bag or something when not in use
>decent enough build quality that I won't accidentally break it by dropping it or being rained on
>relatively cheap since I'll probably never have to use it, say at least <$30

I've found a few flashlights that have most of these, but the battery charging cap is something I'm not sure is even done at all? So either I get one with a replaceable battery and store it with a halfway charged lithium/LiFePo battery or I settle for a hand crank so I won't have to deal with batteries at all but trade off convenience and size. Or build a diy, but that's a lot of effort for something I probably won't use often or at all. Any thoughts or recommendations?

Interesting. That was literally the only point where I said that Trump had a point: I can buy chinkshit and including shipping it's cheaper than mailing a postcard to my neighbour. Subsidising cheng is not the idea of the international postal union, so Trump's clumsy threats to leave it might actually move them in the right direction.
I almost forgot about that until now, Trump didn't do shit. Which, personally, was nice to save money. However, if the shipping becomes more fair, it's hard to argue that it isn't right. Shipping a package across the world should be more expensive than within your town.

I'm thinking about adding to my soldering "lab" for electronics. I already have a pinecil knockoff with some random smallish tips. But that doesn't get me anywhere on the SMD components. I'm thinking about getting one of those cheap 30~50$ hot air guns.

Is there a current recommended one to get or whatever in that price range?

A good digital magnifier would also make sense since I'm thinking about fixing up HDMI ports, USB-c ports, and SMD components. Basically I'm tired of pointing friends and family to repair shops that'll just send the whole motherboard to be changed for a single faulty component making the repairs too expensive.
