If you haven't made friends in college then you should go to tech meetups in your given space. Network with the people there and somebody might be willing to refer you if they think you're nice. It's not a hard lift either. Most companies give referral bonuses of a few thousand dollars if you're hired for at least 90 days. They're incentivized to hire referrals on all levels.
30-40% of new hires are referral despite only being like 15% of applications.
The rest are cold apply but those have like a 2% success rate.

Should I be multitasking more? I've spent the last two days making changes in a product that takes 30 minutes to compile every time (no intermediate targets and it rebuilds every object file every time). If it was me I'd zip everything and encrypt what it is you want (7zip, etc) and upload it to a single-use cloud storage depository (Drive, Mega, etc), or alternatively if I had access to said files on work-phone, save them locally and transfer them to your PC that way.
