I want an Xperia 10 VI phone but with a notification LED or always on display option. What choices do I have?

most important features that I want being: similar camera quality, expandable storage, 3.5mm in that order. I can give up 3.5mm if it means the others are there.
>>

Is there a phone to buy if I want as little money wasted on the camera or videogame shit as possible? I just want nongamer desktop PC style shit to be as responsive as possible.

okay fuck it I'll just get this. Thanks Anon. The Sony would be an easy buy if they didn't try to segment their product stack by locking out an obvious no brainer feature like not having to manually turn on the screen to see if I have a notification or not. What the fuck.

I hate the idea of not having a 3.5mm jack since it's removal is completely satanic, but realistically I almost never use it anyways, at least not compared to notifications.

i don't know why iNiggers lurk /spg/.
everyone talks about which Android flavor is better, which feature measures up to which price point, and how the various SoC's made for Android performs against each other.
meanwhile, iToddlers just sit silently, occasionally fanboys with one-line non-sequiturs like above, and disagree about why iOS is inferior without actually providing any reason, doesn't talk about iShit features or their SoC behaviors, contribute fuckall to anyone, and being the most insufferable niggers to ever graze this niggardly thread.

iSlaves bought their devices based on feeling. Once that feeling leaves, all they have left is buyer's remorse. Only way to delay that buyer's remorse is to try and dunk on those without iPhones.

The reason they come here and not redd.it is because the r/iPhone sub reddit is filled with people complaining about problems with their iPhones.

Are you a normie? It might be fine. If you are a hardcore /g/tard you'll have more fun tinkering with a Pixel.

Will probably be updated for a couple years with OS updates and several years (7 from release) with security updates.

But I don't recommend Samsung. I traded my Z Flip5 for a Pixel 7 and cash and like it a lot better. Running GrapheneOS right now on Android 15.

I've been using a galaxy note 9 for 6 years and it still works but I wouldn't be surprised if it dies any moment so figured it's time to upgrade. I thought I'd go for the next galaxy ultra but apparently Samsung have been resting on their laurels like Apple and don't offer best specs for price unlike Xiaomi/Vivo who actually cram their best tech. my question is, anyone made a similar jump and what it's like? My biggest concern is that they have a sperate inferior OS for global versions. but is it that bad/noticeable cause people rave about oneUI people rave about OneUI but eh, it’s fine I guess. The sperate volume for apps, and on screen buttons are pretty nice. just not sure what else I'm taking for granted that I'll regret switching to a chinese flagship.

Lol. Still not worth being tracked by China and having ads in the OS.

Some exclusive features on Samsung
>Modes and Routines: Can make your phone do certain things automatically under certain circumstances, like whenever my phone connects to my car's Bluetooth, it knows to open Maps and GPS but turns off GPS whenever it disconnects. Or it turns on battery saver mode automatically if my phone isn't connected to a charger by 10pm.
>Secure Folders: Hide apps and files, make them password protected. Android is JUST now getting this feature this year, Samsung has had it for years.
>Calandar, Gallery and Alarm apps are all better than what you get from Google or the app store
>Good Lock: Samsung exclusive app that let's you customize EVERYTHING, go watch a YouTube video on that
>Three different levels of battery saving: Stop charging at 80%, slow down charging to fully top up when you're about to wake up or have it charge to 100% then decrease to 95% and then top back up to 100% over the course of the night.
>Can natively make gifs and videos your background, lock screen or call screen, don't need a third party app
>Native split screening and picture-in-picture with every app
>Samsung DeX turning phones into desktops
>>
>>102973755
>Still not worth being tracked by China and having ads in the OS.
All of that shit can be removed and/or disabled, all you need is a brain
>>
>>102973577
Separate volume per apps has been a thing since my 2020 LG with Android 10.
And the only reason I bought chink was because the A55 costs almost $200 more than the X6 Pro while having lower res, slower storage and weaker chip. One Jew Eye not worth the price difference but that's just me.

this is a samsung thing? I thought it was android. I love using it for grinding gacha game while reading an ebook/watching a video

I have an actual good desktop though, so this seems like a gimmick but neat

I wasn't convinced by your privacy/intrusive ad argument because let's face it everyone knows everything it doesn't matter if it's china or uncle sam, and like the other anon said ads can be disabled. although I realize now that oneUI is much better/more ambitious than I thought and worth the slightly worse hardware. thanks for the breakdown, didn't realize Samsung had this much going on so it was pretty helpful.

This is a very dangerous mindset to have. A lot of tracking can be blocked and law enforcement needs a warrant to check your records.

A foreign government with a social credit system and street cameras that can scan your face and identify who you are even with a mask, isn't the government i would want to have my personal info. I'm gonna give you my honest, rambly thoughts:

I have an iPad, but use android as my phone and no matter what applel says, iPadOS is still iOS.

iOS is still locked down compared to android, but slowly that's sorta changing due to the EU. Most (normalfag) apps that are on the Android Play Store are on IOS.
You'll never have the same customizability on iOS as you do on android, but for day-to-day use, both kinda work similarly enough where at this point, it's personal preference/you're an American and you've been peer pressured into going apple.

Apple's notification centre is still ass and doesn't intuitively work as it does on android. Swiping one way brings up the widget centre and swiping the other way brings up a menu with an option to clear the individual notification, where as on my Samsung, if I swipe a notification away, it buggers off, no menus, just gone.

face Id works really well, no complaints about that. the complaint about needing to swipe to get to the home screen after authenticating is stupid, but I got over it.
Speaking of things that are bullshit; background apps, give me a button to close everything, and swiping each app is dumb. Is it possible that google owns the (((patient))) to this? maybe, but it's always probably that this is apple saying fuck you to the users, or it has something to do with how it manages apps, idk

iOS has back gestures, but most of the time you're still gonna be reliant on the dedicated back button, on my s21, you can swipe back on any app and it goes back, which can be a touch annoying when I don't need to go back but that doesn't happen all that much.

I could probably go on about downloads not working like they do on android, but honestly, I can make it work 90% of the way I use android. It's fine, android is fine, everything is just fine now.

What isn't fine is apple changing $2k (local currency) for 256GB, it's 2024, this is not okay
>>
>>102978507
Isn't OneUI 7 going to have a notification centre like iOS? :/
>>
>>102978652
No.
>>
>>102978652
>>102978698
Yes and no, quick settings and notifications will be separated like on iOS, but it'll still work like Android. My issue with iOS notifications stems from the extra steps required for dismissing individual alerts - I don't need confirmation, maybe itoddlers do, but if I dismiss it, it's because I want it dismissed. I don't mind having a separate location for quick settings and notifications

You mean like on Android? Because Android had them se[arated until Android 5. Notice the toggle on the upper right to switch between notifications and controls.
Anyway, that feature is optional, and it's even present in OneUI 6.

Look, if you want to be autistic and obsess over feature lists, 90%+ of which you will never use, and that gives you a weird feeling of superiority, then Android phones are for you. If you just want a high-quality flagship phone that doesn’t require you to dive into minutiae and has an incredibly finely polished OS, then iPhone is for you. I’ve had them all, and in my younger days, I enjoyed all the tinkering that earlier versions of Android needed, but as I got older, I stopped wanting to fuck around, and Android became less and less open as phone manufacturers started putting their own bloated software suites on top of the base Android operating system. You pick up two different Android phones and get massively different experiences. That’s a level of unpredictability that I just don’t have time for as an adult. I just need my shit to work.
>>

>That’s a level of unpredictability that I just don’t have time for as an adult. I just need my shit to work.
Meanwhile iOS with multiple distinct ways to go back within the same app, swipe up, swipe down, swipe to side, back button on top left, little cross icon on top right, whatever, etc., while Android has a "swipe inward from either side of the screen" gesture or a dedicated back button on the bottom navbar, depending on your preferences. You can't tell me iOS is more consistent.

There is a simple solution just buy Pixel 8 Pro. Android phones tank in value shortly after release, if you want it cheap wait a bit after launch.

How can I stop my rampant consumerism? I'm not kidding, I must have had about 30 different phones in the last 5 years. I can't help myself. I buy a phone, use it for a bit, get bored, either switch from Android to iOS or vice-versa, or from one flavor of Android to the other. I need to accept that I'll never find the perfect phone and settle for one with the fewest compromises. But HOW?

I have had my chink phone, the redmi note 9 pro for 4 years strong. I recently flashed lineage os on it and it's been good so far. The battery drain on lineage is a but worse than miui, but not a deal breaker.
Besides that phone which I have had for nearly half a decade, I recently bought a pixel 6 pro. But I'm gonna return it >>102976285.

Limit yourself to 1 phone per year, that would be a good start. If money is not an issue, and it doesn't seem to be with your 6 phones per year, just spend it elsewhere. Phones aren't a good money sink, try cars, gacha games, model airplanes, drones, etc.
Get an old BMW and make it your project car or something, work on it, make it look nice and drive fast.

Better privacy settings by default (ask apps not to track, Lockdown mode)

General ecosystem support, if you have all Apple devices they will work better together than Windows and Android
Probably better security, in the sense that Apple won't sell your data, they just use it for themselves
Slightly better apps for the same equivalent on Android. Even some Google apps have extra features on iOS.
Longer software support. This is getting a bit better on the Android side, but if you're going to buy an older device, you're likely to still get updates for it compared to a similar Android phone
Better gaming options. For example, Genshin has native controller support on iOS because Apple pays for the exclusivity.

That's about it. I hate Apple btw, the few times I've had to use an iPhone, it felt like a fucking nightmare.

4 years with a sealed in battery is impressive. The V20 only lasted me as long as it did because I could replace the battery every year or so, and I only kept it as long as I did because I was foolishly waiting for a "suitable" replacement.
I gave up on trying to find something with an IR blaster. I gave up on 16:9. I even gave up on the removable battery. But 3.5mm and microSD are NON-NEGOTIABLE - so my options were either a. pay through the dick for a previous gen Sony flagship because AT&T ought to be fined a billion or two by the FCC for their VoLTE whitelist or b. buy one of the cheapest fucking phones on the market. Kek indeed.
The $59 Moto G 5G 2024 I mentioned earlier was a "fuck it" impulse purchase I figured I'd regret in a few weeks. Other than having to get used to the big drop in DPI and adjust my settings in certain apps accordingly, I like this thing! I didn't think I'd notice an improvement in performance going from a (very old) flagship SoC to a new entry level one, but it is snappy! The level of bloat that's crept into shit like Google Maps is disgusting.
I miss the rear mounted fingerprint reader, I'm a lefty so using a case makes the right mounted one a bit fucky sometimes. Then again the phone was $60...if I smash it I can just buy another one! Fuck the case!

Before the V20 I had a Nokia 8 (DE launch day) and I hated it. The SD835 overheated about as bad as the 808/810, TONS of Evenwell bloat didn't help.
Lumia 950 (free, Bing Rewards sweepstakes lmao) before that - used it for at least a year longer than I should've but the retina scanner was some real future shit...and Cortana in W10M was and is still better than Siri, Assistant, Bixby, Alexa, etc. combined. But of course, Satya did the needful and killed it off.

Anything earlier gets fuzzy and I can't even remember the order at this point. Only including smartphones or "smartphones", tried to bunch them up by 2 year upgrade cycles:

SGH-i607 and HTC Dash, SGH-i617, HTC Touch Pro
Nexus One (850 MHz release day) - actually kept it 2 years
HTC Mozart (shit, months), Lumia 800 (wow it's nice but where are the apps? A year? Kept it as a spare because it was cheap and pretty), Galaxy Nexus (actual dogshit, NAND suicide after 4 or 5 months, RMA'd and sold), Nexus 4 (shit, battery went spicy in under a year, RMA'd and sold)
RAZR HD (double shit - it blew itself up. Motorola US incompetently RMA'd my Canadian unlocked phone for a fucking Verizon locked DROID RAZR HD), HTC One S (this was actually really fucking good), HTC Windows Phone 8X (let's try Windows again - this one was my fault, water damage)
HTC One M8 (oh no I'm stuck in Windows land now), Nokia Lumia 1020 (camera grip GOAT)
Microsoft Lumia 950 (A REMOVABLE BATTERY? HOLY SHIT I CARE NOW)
Nokia 8 (HOW DARE YOU STAND WHERE THEY STOOD?)
LG V20 (A REMOVABLE BATTERY? HOLY SHIT I CARE NOW)

Yep. Used to have a problem. That's ~2007-2018. 17 fucking phones. I'm likely forgetting several that I used only briefly after buying broken, repairing them, and selling them off. I doubt the V20 will ever be dethroned I had it for 6 fucking years and it was technically a "downgrade"

Now that I'm already shitting up /spg/ - anyone know how to force Bluetooth AVRCP to actually send album art? Or a way I can use something to try and debug it?
Car runs Android Automotive 11 so album art over BT is supported, which also means using "Android Auto" itself is out - GREAT JOB GOOGLE.
I switched to AVRCP 1.6 in Developer Settings which is supposed to enable album art/BIP but it doesn't work. Tried from Poweramp with every imaginable combination of Album Art setting, tried YouTube Music. Not sure if any other apps even try and send it.
Poweramp dev has apparently addressed a few people complaining about it before with "it's entirely down to your phone's firmware" but from what I can tell Android 14 is supposed to support BIP anyways.
Also tried cooking a "test" song that had a 200x200 progressive JPG cover - just in case it wasn't properly resizing shit to meet the limits of BIP, but nothing changed. And the AOSP code for BIP looks like it is already set up to resize images before they get sent in the first place...

Anything else that supports English, traditional Chinese, simplified Chinese, Japanese and Korean at the same time? And has a number row?

I genuinely want to switch away from Swiftkey because it keeps giving simplified Chinese whenever I type in traditional Chinese and vice versa, and it's even worse at giving me the kanji I want to use whenever I type in Japanese. All kidding aside, the iPhone, even the Pro Max line, is just good enough across the board for most people's uses. The camera is not best in class but pretty great, the optimization is respectable, the display and overall functionality is pretty good, it's all just fine, there's no major drawbacks to them. But with Android devices, you can pick and choose what actually matters for your use case and choose a device based around that. The only thing iPhone objectively has going for them is a top down integration of OS, device, and accessories that even Google can't replicate on their own Pixel devices.

Like for me, coming off of my finally deceased BS5, I wanted something with comparable rapid charge, a really strong camera, and a clean, lean setup, and OnePlus delivered all that to me with a used OP11. Shot for shot it easily outperforms even one of my coworker's Pro Max, and has solid all round performance and 80W rapid charge that will fill me up from dead empty in about 30 minutes. Before that, I didn't care much for a good camera, I wanted something with gaming gimmicks and bonkers fast charging, so I chose the Black Shark 5 because it had pop-up triggers, screen mappable controls, and sub-20 minute dead to full charging capabilities. Before then, I wanted a music capable device, so an LG V60 fit my bill, and I still can't find a device so deftly feature packed in the US market, certainly nothing geared towards music lovers with demanding headphones without the addition of a DAC/amp dongle, a highly capable camera, and a secondary screen before everyone was making foldables.

I ran a Xiaomi Black Shark 5 for almost two years off AT&T with no issue, and got reliable service for 4G LTE just about everywhere I got it with my prior carrier-provided V60. Looking it up with Frequency Checker, it looks like you should expect solid coverage in the LTE range, and moderate coverage in 5G.

All that being said, I'm just one anon, hopefully some others will chime in with other suggestions within your desired spec and price range.

Are foldables still a meme? I can get Galaxy Z Fold 6 for the same price of a Pixel 9 Pro
>>
>>102978021
I went from a galaxy s8 to an iPhone 13.

Cons:
It was marginally more annoying to install a 4chan app, I have to pay a $10/year subscription to get a decent file manager with syncing options for my windows share (FileBrowserGO), I have to use brave to watch jewtube in the background since there are no third party apps and a shortcut that calls a YouTube-dl command from a terminal app to download vids as mp3s from there (the app is a piece of shit that doesn’t even work with playlist downloads for whatever reason). And it has no background multitasking so I have to do shit like keeping games running in the foreground just to download updates for them or keeping the aforementioned terminal app in the foreground after it gets called from the shortcut.

Pros:
Tinder roasties won’t ghost you immediately when they see your green bubbles.

I’d switch back to android in a heartbeat if someone would just find a solution for the woman question.

What is the best, fastest phone Android phone you can flash degoogled custom ROM on? Bonus points for screen as large as possible. Budget is irrelevant.
I tried looking but can't find anything unless you count iPhone 16 Pro Max as degoogled. Please don't say Pixel 9 Pro XL, Tensor G4 is abysmally slow.

You can proxy your messages to iMessage if you have a mac. Or you can have a cheapo iPhone for thots and Android for everything else. iPhones get updated forever, even the old as shit XS got iOS 18 and probably will get iOS 19. And you don't even need the latest iOS for 99% of apps. XR can be bought for pennies nowadays.
>>
>>102978021
Apps on iOS generally work better than their Android equivalents including Google apps, ironically.
You don't get all of your data harvested by Google and sold without consent or any choice to opt out. Apple is not a privacy haven but they mostly don't give a shit about your stuff unless it's illegal. You can't do that on Android without giving up support for banking apps, NFC payments and DRM content like Netflix shit.
Much better battery life even when normalized for limited background activity but that's mostly due to Apple silicon and not iOS.
Safari is nicer than Chrome in that it let's you block ads and install extensions. It's a bit of a moot point if you use Firefox on Android.
Photos and image files on the phone are separate. Images you save don't show up in gallery unless you save it to gallery. It's nice if you backup stuff to your phone because on Android every little shit image file shows up in gallery which can be supremely annoying.
Day one updates on every device even if it's ancient by modern electronics standards.
iMessage is genuinely very nice even ignoring the retarded green bubble drama. It works way better than RCS which at this point I don't think will ever stop being shit.
Not really a pro but I've been using iOS and Android on and off for a long time and I've noticed that iOS is gradually getting less locked down and more like Android while Android is getting more locked down. Of course Android is till a gajillion time more open and customizable but this trend makes me less optimistic about Android with each new version. Widevine, Safety Net, Device Integrity, SAF etc. Shit is getting worse and worse.

its just more polished experience. much much more polished compared to android will ever be. just like they say, everything "just works", and when i mean "works", i mean flawlessly (well, most of the time, but very rare that they fuck up).

i still prefer android UI tho, and features, and customizability. but until they get to the point of polish of IOS its really hard to switch back. the closest i wanted to try is nothing phone (because it seems that theyre trying to lean in the iphone direction of polishness when it comes to software) but then theyre still stuck with the android disease of playstore apps having a lot of different forms of devices to cater for therefore nothing is optimized to work flawlessly. until google solves that optimization problem, android will never be as polished as iphone can ever be
>>

Snapdragon 8 Elite is a massive improvement and S25U will be that price within a few months of its release because Samsung phones don't hold value whatsoever.
To put it into perspective: the jump from 8 Gen 3 to S8 Elite is the same as 888 to 8 Gen 3. The equivalent of 3 generation leap.
Buying S8 G3 phone for $750 is a meme when S8 Elite launches next month on phones that cost about that much. It's like buying a 3090 full price $1500 a month before 4090's release.

GPU yes. Adreno were always top of the class when it came to the GPU. It's just that the CPU was shitty basic Arm design that couldn't compete with Apple from years before. The new Nuvia developed cores change everything, Snapdragon is now a king in pretty much all aspects from CPU to GPU to efifciency. And all that without using the shitty efficiency cores.

Hello and good morning everyone! I got a iPhone 16 Pro as present and am currently working everything out. I've only had Androids so far. The biggest annoyances (so far) have been finding a well functioning AdBlock solution. I always used Firefox +uBlock. The second is awful sound quality compared to Android (Galaxy Buds 2 pro). What AdBlock would you recommend, Adguard or wipr? And I assume Apple is intentionally sabotaging every non-apple headphone, so no solution there other than buying their stuff?
>>
>>102990076
Wipr works pretty well. Can't say what the deal with the earbuds is but I can't imagine there is not a workaround. Try looking in audiophile forums for your particular ones, maybe someone has figured out a solution.

This is some next level cope. Apple gives your information to law enforcement without even needing a warrant, all LE has to do is say "pretty please". On Androids, they need a warrant. Not to mention the tons of tracker blockers that are free on Android.
>>
>>102989133
>Apple is not a privacy haven but they mostly don't give a shit about your stuff unless it's illegal.
And yet they still save your nudes after you delete them, and allow them to re-appear on your phone. Sell your iPhone and now a stranger knows what your gf's tits looks like.

>Photos and image files on the phone are separate. Images you save don't show up in gallery unless you save it to gallery. It's nice if you backup stuff to your phone because on Android every little shit image file shows up in gallery which can be supremely annoying.
That's because Androids have FOLDERS and actual file management.

>Day one updates on every device even if it's ancient by modern electronics standards.
While apple throttles your device to a screeching halt.

Listen, I know you're trying to be level headed but Apple is only good at marketing and bullying people into thinking their shit is good. They have no redeemable qualities.

>but until they get to the point of polish of IOS
That will never happen because android lets every company fuck with their OS. IOS is as polished as it is because apple controls 100% of its development. No need to worry about breaking compatibility with some smartphone makers bloatware. That bloatware also makes android’s devs lazier because they know that companies like Samsung are going to do their work for them and add 50 features the OS should have natively. I mean, what excuse is their for a third party company being able to add massive amount of functionality to your product and them just sitting there for years not adding them as native features? Android will also never be as polished because of how much different hardware is out there and the OS has to work with every device no matter the specs. That’s an inherent amount of unpredictability that will never allow it to be as uniform as iOS.
