Completely unrelated and I know you're probably dead set on getting a 4k display and probably got a 4090 or will get a 5090 but as someone who's had a 4k display for a while for reasons, most of the time you'll want to downsize the resolution to 1440p and sometimes even 1080p to maximize framerates, and these resolutions usually look ugly on a 4k display. I'd get 1440p instead, you get the best of both worlds.

OLEDs are great for TVs (unless all you watch is news) but yeah pcs are static element packed I will continue using IPS monitors until micro LED becomes affordable and makes oled obsolete.
>b-b-but the blacks..
Once you're used to it they stop looking gray and start looking black, idk why or how but they do.
>muh response time
A good IPS has adequate response. Unless you're always at 120+ fps, OLED's "perfect" response time can male things feel choppy and bad sometimes... which brings me to my final point:

WHERE are the 1440p oled monitors? Everything is at least 4k for some reason. 1440p is THE sweet spot for pcs. Appreciably more screen real estate and pixel density than 1080p but still able to run at pretty high refresh rates. 27" 1440p oled and maybe I'll think about it. Maybe.

Never paid much attention to storage but now I need to do some upgrading.
From what I understand from the guide (and checking in my machine), my B450 Tomahawk Max has a slot right in the middle that should be compatible with a SN580.
Is there any worthwhile difference or trap between the "WB_Blue SN580" and the "WB_Black SN770"? It's less than 10 bucks more for same capacity but +20% speed (and I don't understand the other parameters much). Is there a catch or something?

Also is there any brand/model recommendation for USB-accessed HDD nowadays?
Ideally something with a lot of space and stability - speed isn't much of concern for those since it will be to store backups, photos, old games or paperwork.

Dev related stuff, C# in Visual Studio, VMs, transcoding random stuff for 4chan webms and video games. And the lower power draw than the 7950x appealed to me, since it means it's cheaper to run and my room will be cooler.

I bought 7900x for dev stuff and running VMs 4chins and animu. 7950x3d draws less power than 7950x because its gimped. because of x3d on zen4, its not able to clock higher. Just get the 7950x or 7900x. If you are really worried about power, get 9900x. For ffs, they reduced from 170w of 7900x to 120w in 9900x with performance increase. 7900x also comes with eco mode which is pretty cool. Other than 7800x3d, its a bust on zen4.

Local pricing makes the 7950x and 9900x retarded buys currently, and I'm not fond of the 6 core ccds in general. Currently 7900x or 7950x3d used are by far the best options if the x3d doesn't come down in price when the next gen x3d releases.

Assuming your case can deliver relatively unobstructed airflow, just have enough front intake fans (2~3x 120mm) and one rear exhaust fan.
Top & bottom fans are less impactful unless it's a space-restricted mini case.

MSI oleds have the shittiest OSD, you can't disable pixel jumping where the screen moves position, only slow down or increase the rate, you can't disable screen cleaning notifications, only set it to auto or 16h, unless. what does this mean? a big fucking popup IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR COMPETITIVE GAME IN A 1on1 FOR MILLIONS OF DOLLARZ

MSI engineers really need to take a dive into the suicide nets if you catch my drift

they patched some shit like a setting to disable dsc and shit but every thing of this garbage should be able to be disabled, no fucking compromise if you put in retard shit like this

not sure what the current state of firmware is, but retarded shit like this should not be tolerated

for this reason asus has the best osd so far, alienware is probably even better even though they have no pixel shift disabling function too, not sure about the others, I forget

>When deciding between 2 cases, the bigger ones and the ones with better airflow will serve you best. In fact, I suggest the biggest case you will still like in your work area.
>Micro ATX boards are fine, but use a small ATX case. Just make sure it has all the features you want like USB-c front panel ports, wife, the right number of M.2 slots, etc

So /g/ bros, I was finally upgrading my gaming PC to the latest and greatest, from my old GPU, to the new 4090 below, keeping the old motherboard in place for the time being (planned to replace it whenever it burned out). Thing is, it burned out immediately the moment I plugged my new GPU and PSU in, so the gods have decided the moba upgrade must be now.

I would appreciate help finding a top-end moba and Ram to put in it. Am primarily gaming and I have no idea what good mobas go for, but my two secondary priorities are

a) Longevity (~10 years with no hardware failures)
b) Privacy (tinfoil hat mind would prefer hardware without gaping vulnerabilities or an infinite attack surface)

Any advice would be appreciated.

then how am i supposed to know how it stacks up against other processors? i gotta make my own charts now wtf?

people will want to behead me for this but framegen and dlss on the 40 series is genuinely good
worth the upcharge? for now probably not but the 40 series will age much better than 30 or amd 6000

amdrones hate it because their version just isn't good
anyone who has used framegen knows it is black magic

40 series cards that have the same performance as 30 series cards draw half the power (4060ti vs 3060ti)

7900 GRE vs 4070 ti super vs 7800 xt vs 6800 xt vs 4060 ti 16 gb for a zen+ cpu. If I get an AMD card it'll be used on Linux, a Nvidia one will be used on windows:
Please tell me if my assessment is correct:

The 4070 ti super is awkwardly competing against pcie 5.0 cards set to launch early next year which would require me to build a whole new system to really use but might offer fancy pants NPUs fed with system RAM if Linux ever gets driver for that and AI shit ever gets written to use them. The 4070super requires me to get a 12vhpwr adapter and risk housefires or spend at least $200 on a new PSU. It has fancy upscaling and frame gen that makes things wibly wobbly and unclear, but of course it's better than everything else by a lot.

The 7900 GRE costs 17% more than a 6800 xt and does like 15% better maybe but uses less power, and importantly for me causes fewer clearance issues. The 7800 xt costs more but performs slightly worse than the 6800xt but avoids clearance issues. Both the 6800xt and 7800xt are better value than the 4060 ti, which can't use 16gb to its fullest effect, if you're not using dlss and frame gen but still beats it even in ray tracing.

One factor I haven't heard much about: which of these is going to be more stable, ie. cause fewer game crashes? If I had to guess AMD would be worse because of fewer users and AMD on Linux is a niche within a niche, but I still have a GTX 1080 that'll be fed to a windows VM.

Without a CPU upgrade I'd only go up to a 4060Ti. Maybe a 4070 non-super if it's cheap enough. With a stronger card, Zen+ would be a bit of a bottleneck in modern games. If you don't play those then you don't need anything stronger anyway.
If you're prepared to upgrade the CPU as well then the sky's the limit. Just buy according to budget and preferences (Nvidia if you want RT/DLSS, AMD if not).

i was told 8gb is not enough for 1440p but it seems like 4080ti can handle it just fine... wtf bros

Just make sure your noodle arms push the connector in all the way. Maybe ask your sister to do it.

Can anyone help me choose a 2TB main drive?

From what I can see the Patriot Viper VP4300 Lite does everything the other drives can do, for cheaper
>>
>>103009933
>Can anyone help me choose a 2TB main drive?
Literally whichever is the cheapest drive in your local market at the time. There is no real world difference in speed of SSDs. Of those options, the Patriot looks good, same 5-year warranty at the Samsung which is the only differentiation factor for end users:

how much of a difference does it make for streaming when choosing between 4060ti and 6700xt?
Tempted to buy the latter but I plan on streaming tekken 8 and I heard you should always choose nvidia for that sort of stuff. what's bad about streaming on a amd card?

Can you overclock 3200mhz RAM beyond that value?
>>
>>103010453
Depends on the kit, motherboard, AND CPU's IMC. Basically gambling.
>>
>>103010426
NVIDIA produces higher quality video at the same bitrate
if you're streaming to youtube it doesn't matter
if you're streaming to twitch it matters
if you're streaming to discord it's gonna look like shit no matter what card you buy

of course
some of the best DDR4 is 3200 14-14-14

lol oh no
>I mean the frequency, not the CL
kits with low tRCD (the second timing, not low tCL) is samsung B-die and will scale very well with frequency
read this

>>
>>103010453
If you are running anything newer than intel 8th gen it can be worthwhile to consider ram OC, only DDR4 ICs worth tuning are hynix C/J/DJR, micron Rev e/b, with Samsung b-die sitting at the top for performance

Well shit, I looked at a review and it says that Patriot randomly switches between SLC + QLC
https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/ssds/patriot-viper-vp4300-lite-4tb-ssd-review

So:
Lexar NM620 (Gen 3) for 105eur
or
Samsung 990 Pro / Crucial T500 for 150eur
