Reminder that stock android cucks have to deal with WiFi and Mobile Data being combined into a single button, requiring 2 taps to turn on either one. I'm so glad I'm out of my Motorola years and on a Samsung, so I can have a reasonable UI experience, after my old Motorola got absolutely fucked by Google when Android 12 came out and pushed this criminal UI change. Instead of just quick toggling WiFi and Data on and off, I had to tap the internet icon and wait a solid 3 seconds (on Snapdragon 778g) for the internet menu to pop up from the bottom of the screen.
There are rumors it's going back to normal in Android 16, but thankfully I don't need to care about that thanks to Samsung.

Samsung fanboys in 2019 when the Galaxy Note 10 removed the jack: REEEEEEEE
The same Samsung fanboys today: What? We never used the headphone jack in the first place, what are you talking about?
Ditto for the SD slot.

At least iSheep would acknowledge that they did use the headphone jack before Apple removed it from the iPhones starting from 7, even as they claim they don't need it anymore.

12R user here, it's pretty comfy except for the practically useless 8mp and 4mp secondary cameras on the back. I have it running pixelos and it's very easy to custom rom. (Plus there's a lotta ROMs available). The battery life easily exceeds one day (at least on lineage and pixelos) and it's super cool cos of the big ass vapour chamber

Ausfag here. Faggot telco's blocked my perfectly functional VOLTE phone (calls and SMS still work on wifi, they have just purposely blocked me from using their 5g cancer towers).

havent bought a phone in ages since my nokia just worked for 5 years. now its kinda shitting itself and i figure its time for a change, but im pretty clueless as to what to what brands are good and which i should avoid. all i know is that i want to stick with android.

main features i care about is that it's generally good quality and doesn't waste my time by being slow. decent camera is a plus

i was looking at a pixel 8a for 400 euros but no thoughts aside from that
>>
>>103013496
They're surprisingly decent considering they're gaymen phones.
Large batteries and battery lives
Flat backs
No front camera punch hole
Great performance and cooling obviously
And they cost significantly less that big name flagship phones
>>
>>103013496
Quite good if you can get past the gaming aesthetics and the lack of IP rating.

>>103013514
Main issues with pixels are the chipsets and sometimes ironically software. They're decent phones though.
Motorola phones are another good option, although most of the good ones have curved screens.
If you want something nokia-esque you could get the new hmd phones, although I can't vouch for how good they may or may not be.

I bought some $20 QCY buds (T13?) 2.5 years ago and they still work. They sound about on par with the $10 wired buds I was using before, and replacing every 6-9 months when the cable breaks. These shitty wireless chinkbuds have outlasted any wired buds I've ever had, I can just imagine how good more expensive ones must be. Thinking of getting the Galaxy Buds FE as a self christmas gift (excuse to spend money on tech) actually.

>>103013604

>>
>>103013623
Wired does sound better than wireless. Why do you think it doesn't?
>>
>>103013599
>Thinking of getting the Galaxy Buds FE
Don't. The sound is nice, the noise cancelling isn't bad either and I like the shape. But the connectivity is AWFUL. For me they were constantly dropping signal, especially outside. Sometimes it'd be playing fine and then I'd turn my head and the signal would cut out. I've used several 20€ wireless buds and even a fucking 8€ pair and they didn't have any of these problems.
If you're thinking of getting something a bit more expensive I've heard the QCY melobuds pro are good. Or you could get something else, just don't get the fucking FE buds

Generally it's not, but the main issue with their chipsets are worse connectivity and worse efficiency which leads to worse battery life.
Software wise some people find it buggy and you get shit like webm related sometimes, but it varies model to model and I imagine some of it gets fixed.

Why would I want all these features? I can't figure out what's useless and what's not.
>>
>>103014035
What features are confusing you?
>>
>>103014058
Pretty much everything. I've literally never used a smart phone.
Why would I want my phone to have my fingerprints?
What's 3D scanning for?
Why do they all have cameras on them?

I'd like a normal phone. Maybe I'll just get a landline again.
>>
>>103014035
Smartphones are pocket computers nowadays, they're designed to be able to replace every other electronic device you own - TV, gaming console, computer, etc.
It's also why phones are getting so huge nowadays. Pajeets don't own any of these other devices, so they need a huge phone to use as their everything device from work to entertainment.
>>103014075
>I'd like a normal phone.
Companies still make regular "dumb"phones. I guess some of them are, like, brainlet phones with some smart-ish features like web browsing, but you can probably walk into a store and buy a regular phone with just calls and texts for 50 bucks.
>>
>>103014085
So why do people want smart phones? I've really never seen the appeal. I musch prefer dedicated devices.
>>
>>103014075
>Why would I want my phone to have my fingerprints?
Faster unlocking that a password without being too insecure
>What's 3D scanning for?
No clue, maybe for people wanting to import objects as models
>Why do they all have cameras on them?
Because almost everyone wants a phone with a camera
>>
>>103014098
I want one so I can remain connected to the internet, and entertained by it, wherever I go. The appeal is instant internet access from your pocket. You can't really do that with a Laptop.
If you're just staying indoors most of the time, then I can understand why a smartphone might lose appeal. At home you have all your other dedicated devices. The smartphone combines all of them (albeit worse than the individual devices) in a handheld package you can pocket and take everywhere with you.
>>
>>103014102
>Faster unlocking
I don't want that.
I also don't want a camera phone. I already have a great camera. Seems like I have zero options for this
>>
>>103014113
>The appeal is instant internet access from your pocket.
I would hate that. Why do you want it?

>If you stay indoors most of the time
I don't. I still prefer dedicated devices.
>>
>>103014117
No one really wants to make phones for 0.01% of the market. Not even trying to belittle you or anything, that's just how it is.
>>
>>103014153
Sure, but I'd grossly overlay for a smartphone that didn't have the bloat like cameras and sensors.

I don't see that happening. What I do see is countless iTards who just accepted the disappearance of the headphone jack, the hardcore shilling of airpods and always defend apple by saying the headphone jack was obsolete.

Not a single one of them says they miss the headphone jack or demand it be brought back.

He also does a weekly livestream for his channel and a weekly live podcast called Best of Our Week.

Two topics I haven't seen anyone else make videos about was the framerate of 4K video recording being compromised and the requirement of a filter to control light for 24fps video. When Xperia was still having problems about shutting off the camera he took a simple look at the files to show other brands were compromising the footage whereas the 1 IV maintained the requested settings until it couldn't. 24fps footage looks terrible from most phones, but that's because no one uses filter accessories to control the light interacting with the sensors. The colors on his "improvement" after the filter look worse in my opinion, but it eventually shows how blur was achieved at 24fps.

Skipped to parts:

>https://youtu.be/PGTMaZeAt-g?si=yylL51CgdyYnZ1b4&t=43 (blur shown around 5:10)
Reminder to use SponsorBlock on desktop and Tubular or BraveNewPipe on mobile.

Another channel I follow is GroundedTech. Infrequent and doesn't use loads of B roll, but he's a guy who buys phones and talks about his months long use of them like a person. His recent video from today was about enjoying moving back into a 1 V from a 1 VI.

These two posts about two channels seem like Xperia shill ads, but there's a channel called Shibi Chan where after 4 years of tolerating Xperia he did a video calling them out on their bullshit before trying out the Vivo X100 Pro. He didn't like it and changed to a Xiaomi 14 Ultra with the photography kit within the past month. Usually posts street photography of Japan.

Not a channel rec but another anti-Xperia point despite Xperia support channels. This video shows the increased magenta and horrid low light camera footage.

Huawei does some interesting stuff but their chips are crap and while harmonyos isn't awful it's still gimped.

It still confuses me how aosp doesn't move menus lower on the screen like oneui does.

>>
>>103020492
They did it for a very good reason. You're getting deep into diminishing returns with such a high resolution on a phone. Doubt anyone can tell the difference between 4K and 2K on a 6.5 inch screen. The cons of having to run a 4K display however are very real. The display itself uses more power, the GPU needs to render more pixels, using more power, leading to shittier battery life.
>>
>>103019755
>can run a version of iOS that still gets security updates
But not the most current one, right? Kek.

Most Android phones usually get 2 Android updates from the year they're released. Samsung and Pixel have decided to go for 7 years. The difference is that most apps support most versions of Android going as far back as Android 5. So if you've had a phone from 2014, you would've had 10 years of support so far. Facebook app on the iTunes App require iOS 14 (2020) or newer. Twitter on the Google app required Android 5 (2014) or newer. They only just now changed the standard to Android 8.

>>
>>103021947
>not small, not too big
That narrows the choices down quite a bit.
Google pixels have good cameras, good enough displays, are the right size, but have kinda crappy battery life.
The moto edge 50 neo is reasonably sized, has decent cameras, a good screen and much better battery life than pixels. Main downside is that the chip isn't great for the price, but apparently there isn't much slowdown when it comes to just regular phone browsing, so if you don't care about gaming you should be fine.
Or you can just get an iphone if you're into that

>Wireless earphones can be had for under 50 bucks and phones START at 128 or 256GB of storage.
phone storage is for the ever increasing size of applications and their caches; sd card is for photos, music, absolutely legally dumped games, ebooks/docs etc.

for the people asking about 3.5mm jacks, not everyone likes bluetooth, be it because of needing to recharge things all the time, or wanting to use their existing headphones without wasting money on wireless ones just for their phone.

Higher ppi is good for playing mobile rhythm games with flick notes, like many gacha rhythm games (and Phigros). Flick notes need a movement of a certain number of pixels to register, and the higher the ppi, the smaller the movement required. Flick misses are a very common issue among these games' communities.

The problem is that this market is not anywhere near important to cater to (especially since most people use iDevices for these games anyway), which is why Sony stopped bothering.

Maybe I'm too self conscious about my phone, but this is a big reason why I got a Samsung for my newest phone and am slightly leaning towards trying out iPhone for my next in a few years, assuming iPhones are still considered cool and appealing by the general public in the second half of this decade. I'd be too embarrassed to pull out my phone in public if I had a fucking Redmi 13C poverty chinkphone or something, when literally everyone I see using their phone on the bus has at minimum a midrange Samsung from the last 2-3 years, if not straight up a Pro iPhone.

>How is the experience with it so far in general?
Really good. No lag in the UI or daily use apps. Really heavy games like ZZZ do cause it to shit the bed, but medium-heavy games like Genshin or Star Rail work well. (S23U should do better in gaming because of better cooling and more RAM!) Only stuttering I experience sometimes is when swiping right (left?) on the home screen to go to the google news feed for the first time every day. Calling and RCS messaging has worked as expected, no problems there. Blocking numbers in the default caller app works, and I've blocked a bunch of sales numbers from my cell provider so they don't bother me.
>Can it run discord without it shitting the bed?
Discord app is complete dogshit on Android. Sometimes when I go to open the emoji or image upload tabs they only open like 10 pixels instead of the usual size, and I have to swipe up to expand them fully.
Left is the expected behavior. Right is the incorrect behavior that happens like 30-50% of the time.
>>

Google Pixel 8a, or any in the "9" series. Pixel phones (starting with Pixel 7) have the best cameras for photos among all smartphones. However, their battery life is ass. But it's worth sacrificing it for the ability to install and use GrapheneOS and have the most private and secure OS.

>>

Just get the latest Pixel. It's fast enough and supports GrapheneOS which lets you install Play Services without it being a system app.

Also, do you really need system-wide adblocking? There's several different things you could do instead:
>use alternative/FOSS apps for whatever adware you're currently using
>block internet access to the adware apk
>use something like TrackerControl or NetGuard with a custom hosts file
>re-compile the adware apk with an injected hosts file (with something like App Cloner)
I can't say I've seen an ad on my phone since Android 4.

since I'm not going to use a custom ROM, does it matter if I go with motorola, xiaomi/poco or even samsung regarding data collection? I never had a samsung before but the hardware is very interesting

Yeah and test the gorilla glass with a claymore

Actually yes it did completely.

Well it's only important if you drop water on your phone. If you like baby your phone all the time or just keep things nice and dry it's not important at all really.

Throwing every feature at the user and then having more behind Good Lock is bad design. Especially when they remove actually useful features such as adaptive charging. Sure you can design a whole routine to emulate the functionality, but that is a pain in the ass.

I don't miss any of these features. So they are all wasted space on my device and in my menus.

The look trying to be iOS is funny too. Just look at the OneUI 7 control panel.
>>
>>103033496
people who say it looks like iOS are being disingenuous. if you're not parroting popular sentiment, can you honestly look at this and say it looks that similar? sure, both use rounded squares and rectangles but is that all it takes? I have no doubt samsung want to be apple, but not in this aspect.

Ausfag here, need a new phone since the telecom kikes decided to cut my connection 2 days after the 3G shitshow.

Budget is about AU$300-500 (depending on how much value I can get out of spending a bit extra)
Main requirements:
>will last a long fucking time
>good battery
>audio jack
>SD card
>no bloatware/built-in ads
>decent camera

The Motorola G55 128 GB seems to fit the bill aside from maybe the camera, the G84 is also an option but $50 more with double the storage. Are there any other options worth considering? I'd normally shop online for this shit but I need it ASAP, so it has to be available in a physical store.
>>
WHats a good portable battery for samsung android phone?

just realized the only reason I want to replace my S10 is because the battery is kinda shite, but portable battery chargers exist, also I could probably replace the battery itself for 50$....

Because it does everything else I need...so not really worth getting a new phone?
>>
>>103034826
portable battery isn’t that great or convenient. getting a new model with longer battery round be the best option. any good power banks won’t be pocket sized

>I can't think for myself, spoonfeed me: the post
First off, you're a dumb cunt for waiting to get network banned. Blah blah blah the government is corrupt and has telco cock up their ass, yeah tell me something that's new. If you had half a brain you would have observed the months long discussions on Whirlpool forums.
Anyway...

>will last a long fucking time
afaik none of the Motorola phones have updates past 2-3 years. Not sure about Nothing Phones. Pixels are the best for long-term support + custom ROMs.
>good battery
literally every phone now apart from Pixels and Samsung (AU Exynos) which have shit Samsung node SOCs
>audio jack
Motorola or Nothing Phone
>SD card
Motorola or Nothing Phone
>no bloatware/built-in ads
Basically no phones unless you put a different ROM on it. But in this case Motorola or Nothing Phone are the best at this price range out of the box, neither has ads to be clear.
>decent camera
Motorolas seem to have shit cameras but apparently Gcam helps. Nothing Phones should have a better out of box camera experience I think.

Overall G55 is the sweet spot because it has 30W charging (vs 15W) and a slightly better SOC than the G54. Again, consider a Nothing Phone for slightly more.

Also don't buy second hand you fucking flop, chances are the battery will be fucked or it will be IMEI banned or some shit. Don't even think about buying anything online now either, it's easier to just get something cheap and decent in a local brick and mortar.
This ensures you have the correct modem configs and a whitelisted IMEI for the telco cartel. We'll just have to ride this out to see what our options are going forward with this pozzed government.

redpill me on UFS 3.0 vs UFS 4.0
>>
>>103035789
What do you need to be redpilled on? Faster speeds is gooder. The best gains are made in gaming, but in day to day scenario, it's not going to radically change your life. You can get smooth performance even with UFS 2.2.
>>
>>103035812
>it's not going to radically change your life
thats what I want to know lmao. i kept looking at benchmarks and random app-launch videos and couldn't really see that much of a difference
but if so, why call it 4.0?? surely there's some unseen gains elsewhere that convinces them to name it 4.0 instead of 3.2
