What matters is the idle power draw and intel shines there and in tasks like chilling as users wont run it all the time in gaming or rendering.
Want an intel cpu at 20-30ºC or a 7800x3d cpu at 50-60ºC while doing nothing and sucking power because they need those extra W to keep their infinity fabric running?

The high idle consumption problem on AMD was a bug with Zen 1 and Zen 1+ because the C-states had to be disabled for stability reasons, it doesn't really apply for modern CPUs and it's just a meme at this point, a system with a 4600G only needs like 12 watts at idle, almost N100 territory.

lmao, it's not like it's dangerous or anything but it's still unnecessary and retarded

the CPU will run faster at lower SOC voltage because
1. the SOC eats up less of the available power budget, leaving more headroom for the cores to boost
2. the memory controller becomes less stable and trains worse after around 1.1-1.15 V
https://github.com/integralfx/MemTestHelper/blob/oc-guide/DDR4%20OC%20Guide.md#amd-imc
>There are clear differences in how the memory controller behaves on the different CPU specimens. The majority of the CPUs will do 3466MHz or higher at 1.050V SoC voltage
>All of the tested samples illustrated negative scaling (i.e. more errors or failures to train) when higher than 1.150V SoC was used. In all cases the maximum memory frequency was achieved at =< 1.100V SoC voltage.

Since you think so highly of cpu reviews for gaming, which cpu should someone get who is buying a 4060? We know the answer can't be a 7800x3d. Clearly that's more perf than he'll need. Since he is a real gamer, we know he'll be running up 1440p, or upscaling to 4k (again, realistically we know what he will do - first he'll try to turn everything to max, then get irritated and try finally to get good settings)

He's not going to buy a 4090, and he'll be playing 1440 or 4k, or more likely upscaled to 4k, or at least try.

He'll be gpu bound in many scenarios. So, he shouldn't spend too much on a cpu.

Can a good anon explain to me intel's e-core and p-core thingy like I'm 5
>>
>>103035490
amd makes fast, good, cheap cpus using 2-3 smaller chips
intel can only make 1 big expensive chip. so they put small cores into their big chip to make it faster and not so expensive
>>
>>103035490
You must be 18 YO to be here.
Intel's chip design team had to work around the space limitations of the 10nm node they were working with while AMD had access to TSMC's 7/6nm processes.
It wasn't able to compete against AMD's CPUs with just 8~12 P-Cores in multi-threaded workloads, which includes a lot of productivity and server loads.

So Intel decided to pair 8 P-Cores and 16 smaller E-Cores in the 13/14th gen to compete against AMD's 16 core CPU.
4 E-Cores takes up about 1 P-Core worth of area in a 13/14th gen Intel CPU die.

The E-Cores are weaker than P-Cores and can cause scheduling issues for games that generally prioritize strong single-threaded performance, especially games with anti-cheat running in the background.

What's the rationale for that? Zen 5 has a starved backend that will get to stretch its legs more thanks to vcache. Moreso than zen 3 or 4 did. It'll probably be a bigger leap from the 9700x than the 7800x3d was from the 7700x.
>>
>>103035725
that's the best possible result. it'll probably be between 5-7% faster
>>
>>103035732
zen5 is frontend bottlenecked like all other x86 cpus. if it wasnt, vcache would have no benefit since the frontend would be idling waiting for the backend to finish its work

>>
>>103035769
Correct, you're agreeing with me. A bottlenecked frontend results in a starved backend. Additional 3d cache results in a frontend which is able to feed much more instructions to the backend. So expect 3d cache to be a really big deal here. 10% isn't the maximum, it's the minimum.
>>
>>103035757
5% is minimal uplift, AMD claims 8%.
in any case its still going to be king of the hill as long as there's not a regression in performance.
>>
>>103035793
that remains to be seen since amd cucked single thread performance by limiting each smt thread to 4-wide decode
>>
>>103035814
Indeed. Amd are attempting some silicon sorcery with their branch predictor to make 4 wide decode a non-issue but it does remain to be seen. The next week is going to feel painfully slow waiting for the 9800x3d reviews to drop.

A 240 would be adequate cooling
A 280 is 35% more radiator area meaning way better cooling than even that
A 360 is only 10% more area than a 280, which is already overkill.

Now here's the kicker, a 280 is cheaper and runs much quieter because 140mm fans are much more silent than 120; especially 3 of them.

If you're dead set on an aio get a 280. More case options too.

> power consumption was a mega factor for picking 7600
You can adjust the power usage of your chip.
Anyway, 7600 is the lowest-binned Zen5 chip. The silicon quality of an individual 7600 could be anything between "almost a 7600x" and "dodged the trashcan by a hair."
Due to thermal concerns, 7800x3d was probs binned for power efficiency. As opposed to clock speed, which would have been more useful on 7700x, 7950x, or even the non-x3d chiplet of 7950x3d.

nta, but yes you dumbass, its there to remove bottlenecks
but its still taking measurements at 1080p with a 4090, which is NOT REALISTIC
for the VAST majority of people, they will be in a far more GPU constrained situation, eg at 1440p with a 4070super or a 4080super. and in that situation, the practical difference between eg a 7800x3d and a 7600x will be basically 0.
hence the claim that people in the real world are generally better off buying a cheap(er) cpu and spending most of their money on a gpu.
there are exceptions to this, ofc. like, if some1 spends all their time playing civ/factorio and other such gpu undermanding but cpu demanding games, then i can see investing in the cpu. but in the general case, fuck no.

>>103036424
I don't think the first anon is entirely correct. You can run most AIO pumps off of a standard fan header with some exceptions which should be obvious from the manual. If you do need to do it you might get misreporting in pump speed due to polling differences. It won't matter if you're giving it the full 12V but it could cause some confusion if you decide to run at a lower speed.
>>
>>103036424
>>103036493
Oh, and I should warn you to check the current draw against the fan headers' spec. Pumps typically need more current than fans. There /should/ be a big safety factor on these things but a board without a dedicated pump header is probably pretty cheap so best not to trust to that - if you've got a 2A pump and 1A headers, get an adapter.

240(/360/etc)hz panels are for esports, which are quite easy to run on most systems, and where a half decent modern rig will easily do 200+ fps.
that benchmark is either using only AAAs or at best a mixture of mostly AAAs with a couple popular esports titles thrown in. but probably only AAAs.

the more interesting question to ask is, at what hz do all benefits stop? like, how high do the hz has to go before even the professional players stop seeing an increase in their performance?

Check Cybenetics and HWbusters testing for specific models. Look for something with hybrid fanless mode and a large fan. Also, going up on the wattage means the fan won't have to spin as fast, if at all, for a given draw - most kick in at about 40% so aim for a power level where your "typical high" load is under or around that.
For example, a 7600+4070S build will pull about 300W while gaming so an 850W unit, assuming that 40% set point, could run passively almost all the time. Of course even at 50-60% load the fan should be quiet so 750W, or even 650W, might be fine depending on your autism levels.
OTOH if you're regularly loading both the CPU and GPU to 100% you'll need more wattage to stay passive. Though in this circumstance their respective coolers will likely still be louder than a modern high-end PSU so consider upgrading the cooling before you spend $400 on a 1600W supply.

Hello anons, Im finally graduating from a 5600g getting ready for MH:Wilds as I managed to get a good deal on a 4060. I have a B550 Mobo and dont really plan on upgrading anything but my CPU.

So what should I get? No X3d, too expensive.
5600, 5600x, 5700, 5700x ? Best value that doesnt run hot, I'm using some cheap tower cooler.
>>
>>103037205
5700X3D from AliExpress is cheaper than all those other options
>>
>>103037205
Don't buy any one of them until you bench the game. With a 4060 you're probably going to be hard GPU bottlenecked so upgrading the CPU won't do much. If MH:W turns out to be too much for your 5600G then the 5600 will be the best value upgrade but by then you might have enough saved up for a 5700X3D.
>>
>>103037195
It's ok bro
I don't think there will be a CPU fast enough to handle the 5090 without bottlenecking until we get the 2 generations newer 13800x3d
>>
>>103037219
Im very skeptical of aliexpress, and i think id need a bios upgrade and Im too afraid to try and do that, as I might break something

>>103037226
I'd wait for the benchmarks, but theres little to no people who would even bother testing a 5600g+4060 nowadays. Hopefully someone does tomorrow with the betatest. To give me an idea
>>
What should I set my pump speed to if I want it to last as long as possible?
>>
>>103037247
>I'd wait for the benchmarks...
Sure by all means look for some from the beta but you're going to buy the game anyway so you'll be benching it yourself. Runs well? No upgrade necessary. Stuttery mess no matter the settings? Need an upgrade. Due diligence in the second case would be to confirm a CPU bind with RTSS.
>>
>>103037205
5600 best value
5700x good too
5700 is garbage
5600x offers no meaningful advantage over non X
>>
>>103037250
Find the highest that you can tolerate long-term and leave it there (or lower if temps permit). Ramping up and down is more deleterious than any particular speed. Also be aware that this is just fiddling - random chance/defects are going to have a much bigger effect on longevity than your settings.
>>
Is the Xiaomi A27i IPS any good?
>>
>>103037205
>>103037247
Wouldn't you need a bios upgrade regardless? I had to get one for my 5600. Regardless it's really not that scary, especially if you have some manner of EZFlash or whatever.
As for ali, it's safe as long as you don't try to save even more from the aleady very cheap popular store.

I think if you buy anything other than the 5700x3d you're basically throwing money in the garbage because the increase in performance you'll have is minor at best. Checking benchmarks, 5600g & 5600 often perform comparable, with the 5600 doing up to like 15% better in some games. The boost you'll get, especially in 1% lows, from the 5700x3d is significantly more.

Either stay on the 5600g, get a 5700x3d or get a new mobo+ram+cpu

>Despite our use of game-ready drivers from all vendors, the game runs much better on AMD than on NVIDIA. Yup, you read right, AMD has the upper hand here, by a pretty big margin, actually. At 4K, the mighty RTX 4090 gets 102 FPS, the RX 7900 XTX is breathing down its neck with 89 FPS, beating the RTX 4080 Super by a pretty impressive 15 FPS. Even the RX 7900 XT is faster than RTX 4080 Super, and this continues across the whole stack—AMD is rocking the game. Now you probably wonder why you haven't heard about this before. Besides a subpar-crafted press release, AMD didn't mention this to anyone. If this were NVIDIA, they would have sent keys out to everyone who produces tech gaming content. Why not aim to get as much coverage as possible, especially for such a rare event where AMD has the upper hand by a big margin

Various people kept confirming throughout the years, including some AMD Vanguards on Reddit.

Get several DX10/11 games and enable 16xAF on them. You'll see it works.

It doesn't work in Vulkan at all. In DX12 it works when it feels like it.

TL;DR:
1. DX11 and earlier? It works.
