They don't seem like very popular devices.
>>
>>103038134
I'm not sure I'll like the 21:9 screen ratio and I'm not sure I'll like the quality of the panel. It has 3.5mm jack and microsd, it has decent cameras, nice software support, etc...I mean, the pros clearly outweigh the cons but I never had a Sony device before.
>>
>>103038225
>I'm not sure I'll like the 21:9 screen ratio and I'm not sure I'll like the quality of the panel.
Any irl phone stores near you? Call them up, ask if they have this device in stock and ask if you can use it in-store to see how it is.
You'll never answer these sorts of questions with a review video. You need to hold the device.
>>
>>103038201
depends which ones you want. I had a titan pocket which I used for a year. they're built just fine and the OS is basically barebones android aside from some toolset crapware which may or may not be useful to you. I had no issues with mine and I would definitely try their other ones if I had money to burn because I think their phones are funny looking
>>
>>103038284
I'm thinking of getting the Jelly Max, because I think modern phones are too big.
A barebones OS is great for me, I don't remember the last app I even installed on my phone. It's literally just a telephone and emergency web browser when I need one.

>>
>>103038297
I had high hopes for the jelly max as I do prefer smaller phones for myself. what I like about it is that it's around the same as an OG iPhone in dimensions. what I didn't like is that i feel it would be too heavy for its size and lacks a headphone jack. I forgot to bring this up but aside from unihertz phones generally being unusually thick (though I think it makes sense on their jelly phones) they're pretty heavy too.
>>
I don't mind buying a phone without SD card slot but I have over 500+ gb of storage on my phone's SD card. Is there even a convenient way to transfer the data to a new phone's internal memory? I'd like to upgrade since it's severely outdated, but the pain of transferring the data seems daunting.
>>
>>103038323
Yeah the jack disappointed me too, but it comes with an adapter so that's nice at least.
What counts as a "thick" phone these days? I haven't bought a new phone in maybe 10 years.
>>
>>103038339
I'd say thick is anything close to 10mm and over. An iphone pro max is one of the thickest at around 7-8mm. Foldable are thick but that's unavoidable. unihertz stands out because they like to hide their thickness and weight with rugged designs, but weirdly enough their titan slim and Luna phone aren't rugged so that's where I figured their thickness isn't exactly intentional
>>
>>103038368
forgot to add galaxy ultra that's like 8-9mm thick
>>
>>103038368
My current phone is around 1cm thick, and I wouldn't mind it being thicker honestly. I've held a modern phone once or twice and it feels like I'm going to snap it in half.

I wish I could get a version without the hole punch in the screen, but I might get the Jelly Max.
>>
>>103038240
I have some stores nearby but none of them have the Sony in store. They only carry the good ole Samsung phones and iPhones.
>>
Man, I really like my OnePlus Open, except it'll randomly run at 15hz on specific apps with seemingly no fix
>>
>>103038388
Then my advice would be to buy one, and if you don't like it, return it within 30 days for a full refund.
>>
>>103038387
my current phone is an iphone se because I like phones that are small, thin and light. I want them to disappear in my pockets. that's why I had high hopes for the jelly max but i think I would stick to a jelly star personally if I wanted to indulge in unihertz' weird world. I like the light on the back
>>
>>103038405
The phone being flat isn't a concern for me. Like I said earlier, i would prefer a thick phone, easier to grip, feels more sturdy.
>Light on the back
Sounds annoying. Does the Jelly Max have that? That might make me reconsider.
>>
>>103038431
no the light is only on the jelly star. And the Luna phone. jelly max is a transparent back from what I can tell
>>
>>103038454
Okay good. Sounds like I might get the Jelly Max, but if there was a version without a hole punch I'd be much happier.
Do they still make phones without front cameras? It doesn't seem like they do.
>>
>>103038461
nope. I don't think I've ever seen a phone without a front camera in a long time. maybe there's a government version of a phone out there somewhere but no, haven't seen one
>>
>>103038482
That's a real shame. I don't use the camera itself and the hole punch is just ugly as sin.

It's been my backup for a long time, buy new phone, break it and go back time and time again.
However from february next year software will be too old.
How is this device indestructible? For it's age and price it's not even that slow, well it's slow but it was cheap even new.
Is anyone making something like this now?

Any advice on buying used eletronics? I wanted a tablet since I've never had one before, so I went with a Tab A8 from Samsung. I found it often for half the price of the current Tab A9 Plus, so that seemed like a good deal, keeping in mind that I could dislike the experience and not want to use it further, so I decided to go with this one here.

Well, at first the seller answered my questions about it, and it seemed alright, but after I bought it he didn't reply, and after a few days he hand't even sent the order, so I cancelled it after 5 days.

At least I got my money back a few hours later, so I suppose using a safe website is key, but are there any other tips? I've bought another one since then and this seller replies more at least.

I bought it today, so I don't find it odd that it's not sent yet, but after what happened I'm a bit more anxious. I mean, I have the case, the screen protector, the keyboard and mouse, a capacitive stylus, all bought new, but for cheap, all I don't have is the main one, a Tab A8. How to make sure I get my used product, and in good condition?

it’s kinda insane how none of the big tech channels mentioned anything shady about this phone when it's practically a meme in china. sure, it's hard in china because the reviewers who critique this phone face censorship on the internet due to Huawei’s close ties with the government, but there is no excuse globally. from the 7nm chips in this model that fall several generations behind typical flagship phones in the U.S. in terms of performance and efficiency to the numerous reports of the device's seam breaking within a month, with Huawei refusing warranty coverage any repairs or replacements. the cherry on top is that it will automatically delete photos you taken if it recognized anything "political sensitive".

>b-but my phone needs to do raytracing
techfags cant seem to accept that phones are fundamentally restricted by their form factor and their practical functionality is also restricted as a result. Nobody is seriously going to sit down and play a full AAA game or watch a full movie on their 6 inch smartphone screen when they have a tv/pc at home. If travelling? With a controller? Sure, but its a compromise and one that nukes battery. Weaker chipsets also tend to have far superior battery life because theyre not as power hungry. Its crazy that phones are actually going backwards in terms of battery life due to this.

A dedicated device will always beat a phone for any of these tasks because a phone is a jack of all trades master of none. This may get slightly better with the advent of folding phones but a steamdeck is always going to be a better experience than a phone. The power of the CPU is basically wasted because phones are only really used to take the occasional picture, listen to music, browse social media and answer calls for most people.

me. i'm on s20u whose deteriorating condition i've extensively documented on /spg/. it can't do 1440p120, only either 1080p120 or 1440p60.
i used to prefer 1080p120 but when my screen breaks and i replaced it with a chink screen replacement that can't do 120Hz, so i successfully adjusted to 60Hz in 1440p60 after a very short while after convincing mtself that there is nothing i can do about not having 120Hz anymore. it turns out, however, that it's not as bad as i thought. it's not as horrific as the 60Hz30Hz move and i appreciate more screen real estate from higher pixel density, case in point >>103037676. i can go as arbitrarily small for character size as i want to fit more things in which is what i've wanted for as long as i can remember.
i can't say whether your brain prioritizes refresh rate or pixel density though.

what's the fucking point of 48mp+ cameras

>pixel binning

every single phone camera above 12mp barring the galaxy s20 telephoto uses a 12mp color filter array that effectively bottlenecks the sensor to that resolution. this is what "quad-bayer", "tetrapixel" etc mean. they try to fake having a full res color array by virtually moving the subpixels around, but that only allows recovery of edge detail and not textural detail. most full-res modes are either burst mode upscaling or just a straight upscale from 12mp. in 1x 12mp mode the additional subpixels are ignored

>sensor cropping

looks a little better than a straight digital zoom but not "lossless" due to above. only phones without OIS bother because burst mode upscaling usually outperforms it

>noise reduction

one large subpixel captures the same amount of light as four small subpixels over the same area

>HDR

this should be the selling point. in practice nearly all phones do hdr temporally. apple and google for instance alternate between two exposures each frame to do hdr video

>shooting in full res and then downscaling to get around a phone's shitty oversharpening filter

you shouldn't need to fucking do this

Where did I say I wanted it to be cheap? I'll happily overpay for a niche product.

Get 7a it should be around that new, maybe a bit more. I don't mind buying used stuff for myself but gifting is kinda cringe
>>
>>103053642
slow phones are already frustrating if you're tech savvy, don't make your gramps suffer through that. if you're going that route you might as well get him a dumbphone.
>>
I would happily pay extra for a 5" smartphone, it's stupid they make handheld devices where you can't reach your thumb to 2/3 of the screen.

iPhone 5s 5" was great, iPhone SE 5" is great, surely Android would have plenty of options

There is no demand for such phones, very few people care about it at all.
I have 24 ultra and I wouldn't buy a phone smaller. But probably larger, too.

What for?

I know this isn't a tablet thread but does anyone have the combo Pixel phone and Pixel tablet ?
How well does it sync ?
>>
I have an older phone with a notch (and LED notification light). do modern phones still do the LED light? they have no notches but a single camera so how does it work
>>
My phone screen is dead, when connecting with usb windows detect it in device manager as MTP UDB device, but doesn't open the folder.
I suppose I need to accept a prompt or something on my phone which I can't see ?
Am I screwed ? How can I access to it ? Everything else works, just the screen is dead, and google doesn't help.

take it to a repair shop

Is LineageOS good on the Xperia VI?

Looking at the Sony Xperia 1 V to replace my OnePlus 7 Pro. The main feature I like is it does not have a camera bezel. The Red Magic 9S Pro+ also looks interesting. What should I get

Single camera always worked fine.

I finally got my iPhone 16 Pro Max, and I love it!
>>
>>103046214
garage sales, estate sales, etc can be a good way to find cheap tech assuming they don't know or care what it's worth. how I got my tab S9 FE anyway. but that's all I can think of, aside from more reputable sites that'll actually refund you
>>
>>103046214
Dunno how to help you but I will say I bought the a8 once, used it for about 2 hours and then returned it because it was shit

>There is no demand for such phones
I think the existence of the iPhone SE proves the "no demand" story is made up. It's more likely big phones are being pushed on us anti-competitively.

>>103055311

what?
I'm asking about the LED light, not the camera. I was saying how there's no notches anymore but a camera now

I assume you don't have usb debugging enabled. Is the screen completely dead, as in it doesn't register an input? What phone is it? It might be able to do usb c to hdmi. If not, your best bet might be to get a cheap screen replacement at a local shop
>>
>>103055832
eh it's been about 2 years so feel like an adequate enough time to consider the next thing. just feels a bit bad doing it without an actual reason.

thanks, but nah. I don't have anything against iphones (used to but live and let live), but android's kinda become part of my identity at this point. I'm like the only one at work not using an iphone so, and I know it's dumb as hell, but it makes me feel unique in a sea of apple users so gotta stick with that

I have a sony xperia 5 mii. Have had it since 2020.
It doesn't always just werk when you want it/need it to. Most annoying things are
>camera
SD card reader failing requiring the camera app to be restarted just to take a single photo.
>Overheating
It becomes useless while it does. (I'm in Texas)
>Audio
Sometimes the audio only plays from the earport instead of also speaker on the bottom requiring a phone restart to fix the issue.
>Microphone
Sometimes this mic stops working and whomever is on the otherside of the call can't hear you at all. You'll just be muted. Fixed by restart.
>Battery Life
Greatly diminished over time and since it's not a common phone, you can't take it to any shop and get it replaced then and there like you could with a samsung/iPhone.

I do love how it feels in the hand because of the 21:9 aspect ratio, but I honestly never see the benefit of that aspect ratio. Most of all media doesn't output in 21:9.
That being said, I don't like how tall the phone is. It's long and feels weird in the pocket/anywhere you put it. The screen length also makes it hard to use onehanded, but that's probably applicable to wider phones as well.
>Would I recommend?
If you're willing to put up with quirkiness like mentioned above, sure. I was sold on no notch/punchhole, SD cardslot, 35mm (even though my model is the one without it lel), zero bloatware.
So, yeah... Goodluck!
