>>
>>103051484
I replaced mine after like 8 years or so. It had been an apparently bottom of the barrel corsair (I didn't know at the time), non-modular and without much headroom for wattage. So I thought why not, for peace of mind; it had served me well but I'd upgrade to something with a reputation for actual quality.

The thing about overspecced PSUs is that the efficiency drops down below the rated power, so if you're going to be upgrading in 5-7 years, just get a bigger PSU then. The memeium ratings categories can help a bit - especially above gold, shit like platinum and titanium rated PSUs are basically equivalent to gold at max load IIRC but maintain higher effiency at partial loads - but you'd still just save more power and probably money buying only what you need right now. Cheaper PSU for less capacity, cheaper PSU by only going gold and not ultramemeium rated, and less electricity costs over 5-7 years can almost certainly pay for a new PSU by then.

every GPU that nvidia / amd sells for gamers is $1000+ lost because a server GPU has 200% more margin than a gamer GPU that a AIB takes a decent cut from.
There are not enough server GPU's to satisfy demand.
Thankfully nvidia realized this, and started only giving the best technology for server GPU's, the gaming GPU's are using 4nm (5nm+) instead of 3nm which iphones had for a year.

There seems to be nothing wrong with that monitor, it seems to match an Acer 1440p 240Hz in features (W2bmiiprx). It has no height-adjustable stand though.
That monitor's being sold in limited regions, so tech tubers have less reason to cover it, and they don't review a lot of IPS monitors anymore.

The VX2758-2K-PRO-3 appears to have FRC added to the base 8-bit panel found in the XV272U W2bmiiprx model for pseudo 10-bit color though.

There's also the Acer VG272U W2 which is another 1440p @ 240Hz IPS of similar spec:
https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/11b335b2
It's also only $220 which seems to be a better deal for a 240Hz panel:
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/rMXV3C/acer-vg272u-w2-270-2560-x-1440-240-hz-monitor-umhv2aa201

Also consider the ASRock PG27QFT2A which is 1440p @ 180Hz but in typical Asrock fashion is selling at a rock bottom price of ~$148:
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/N2cgXL/asrock-pg27qft2a-270-2560-x-1440-180-hz-monitor-pg27qft2a
Reviews for the unit are good:
https://tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/asrock-phantom-gaming-pg27qft2a
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L97Ak-VfqGY

I'm not sure a $100 premium or 69% price jump for the extra 50 Hz is worth it in the current market all things considered.

Could it be that I've messed up a thermal pad placement and the memory is overheating (I can't check, Pascal doesn't have such sensors) or is it more likely that this new game/driver is shit? The card is rock solid in Furmark and OCCT.

It is not going to fix an issue embedded in AMDs chiplet architecture. Undervolting is quite literally not going to do shit here unfortunately, AMD chips need higher passive power draw to just function.
>>103054340
>Ryzen master
AMD unironically hides that extra power draw from you since it's the baseline power the chip needs to be active. It's the reason why so few people know about it. You need to use more specialized tools to accurately measure the power. Tests have been done and all the evidence is out there if you search for it.

NO BAILOUT FOR INTEL!
>The talks, which the people described as purely precautionary, show that Intel is seen as too strategically important to be allowed to fall into serious trouble.
>The US is seeking a national champion in the semiconductor space to ensure its own supply chain and as a counterweight to China, where manufacturing for global chips has moved.
>One option is a merger, led by the private sector but possibly encouraged by the government, of Intel’s chip-design business with a rival like AMD or Marvell, the people said.
>There’s little appetite for a 2008-style bailout, in which the government took direct stakes in automakers and banks, because policymakers are worried about losing money given Intel’s continued sales declines.

>>
Would lga 1700 be a good option for budget builds still with the whole 13th/14th gen fiasco going on?
12th gen was the gen you wanted to be at anyway since it offered the best balance with power and efficiency.
And for a budget build starting with a 12100f, you will have a great upgrade path to 12600kf/12700kf for years down the line if you need it, running those two without overclocking them doesn't even require an expensive board.
>>
>>103055685
In some sense they already are. Most recent games can productively utilize >4 threads. What stops them from becoming embarrassingly parallel is that most "game functions" are dependent on previous states - for example one AI can't decide what to do until it knows what the player or other NPCs have done. You can't "naively" split those AIs across cores but you can use a smart compiler and branch prediction to find parallelizations at runtime. Jim Keller talks about this on L*x Fr*dman's podcast.
>>
>>103055797
An RX550 is so old/weak that you could drive it with a 2500K. IMO you could probably upgrade to a 4060-class and be fine so long as you're sensible with settings. Anything higher and I'd be thinking about a new CPU which, unfortunately, does mean a new board.
>>
>>103055797
https://www.reddit.com/r/lowendgaming/comments/1e69328/anyone_with_ryzen_7_4700s_and_rx550/
Found someone else with apparently the same system as you.
But the 4700s is quite competent from what I can see (if the information about it being about equivalent to the 3600 is to be believed). To the point where it's not even close to bottlenecking your gpu. Quite the opposite in fact, the rx 550 is just too weak for that to ever be even close to factor.
You could pair that cpu with something like an rx 6600 (which is about 500% more powerful than the rx550) and it would run great.

Yeah it's very good for budget builds. I will caution your optimism vis. the upgradability though. If you're broke enough to be considering this you're probably not going to be upgrading on a cadence where 12100 -> 12600K will make a difference. In eg. 5 years they'll both be equally obsolete and hopefully you won't be so broke any more.

>Why are the new releases so disappointing and just incremental improvements. Don't white people work at these companies no more?
Sadly, end consumers are no longer the principle market for PC (you know PERSONAL Computer) hardware. AI, Enterprise/Data Center, and ML are where the margins are so that's who the companies design and build their tech for first these days. It's all businesses selling to other businesses, and what we find cool and interesting is barely an afterthought.
>>
Upgrade from Comet Lake to Zen 5X3D or re-enter hibernation for another gen or two?
>>
>>103056065
For a start, per TPU, the 3600->5700X3D jump is about twice as much as 12100->12600K. Plus the cache has other benefits like to 1% lows and some naturally CPU-bound games seeing massive swings.
More importantly, the AM4 chips were fine options at launch and "synced" to a normal upgrade cadence whereas the 12100 and 12600K are both "budget" options right now. In fact, given the mere $80 price delta, I'd even suggest that most buyers should save up for the i5 and get the full performance from the start. Indeed, if $80 is going to completely blow the budget then whatever PC you're building is probably not something you'd /want/ to upgrade in 5 years' time.
Now, with that said, I'm not shitting on the idea as a whole; just tempering one aspect of it. You could do a lot worse for a cheap gaming rig.

I'm glad I didn't waitfag and just got a 4080S new for the price of a 4070TiS. I fully expect NVIDIA to just kill old supply and if the leaks are true the next gen will be both too damn expensive and retardedly inefficient in the energy department.

You don't need more than X670E
Realistically, you don't even need more than B650
>>
>>103056535
What do you want X870 for? The USB4? It's a neutered chipset, worse than X670 boards and way overpriced.

Just get a nice B650 board and flash the BIOS for the 9000 series chips.

Usually two front, one back. CPU heatsink fins tend to be horizontal orientation along with the GPU (unless you vertical mount) so want a fully parallel direction of airflow congruent with it. An intake on top is asking for turbulence.

Through Monday you can get a 1440p 27" OLED for $450:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CMSVLJW2
I'd say the difference between LCD & OLED is worth a $150-250 splurge if you are able. It certainly beats the snot out of Mini-LED as far as HDR is concerned.

whilst on paper and from the recommendations from internet people it does not seem like munch improvement, I noticed an incredibly snappier system when I went from a 3700x to a 5900x for simple web browsing
an x3d might be overkill, I would go with a simple 5700x as it will be the cheapest option

I would let Lisa Su peg me if she stayed with me for a weekend in bed.

Saturday would just be fucking constantly with cuddles in between. Not even leaving the bed except for piss breaks. Breakfast wouldn't begin until 9pm, and we'd both lose 5lbs from fucking and starving together. She'd continue looking better and better in her black latex and shoelace outfit.

Sunday morning we'd leave bed and go outside in oversized winter jackets and boots. She'd hand me a cigarette and light both of ours like in a film, and I have never even smoked before, but rolling with the theme of a dizzying couple of days of degeneracy, I'd feel obligated.

Come Sunday evening, we'd both be just about over it, and anticipating the big Monday to come, meetings with PMs, TSMC engineers, press conferences.

Finally, when I'm nodding off at 8pm from hunger and lethargy from the cigarettes and empty balls, she'd dress, pack up, and leave when I thought she was just out of bed using the washroom.

I'd wake up Monday morning, the curtain allowing an inch of sunlight to cast on the foot of my bed. Bird and children shouting outside. Quiet stillness indoors.

My weekend with Lisa Su would never happen again because she's just one of those girls

>>
>>103057842
>>103057915
afmf2 is actually derived from the original video frame doubler they had, thats why it can work in anything without needing the special hooks that FSR3/DLSS3 use

it's pretty much artifact free though, unless you dip well below 30fps, which is pretty impressive
sometimes simple is better

If your case allows a 360 AIO it would be better. Smaller 120mm fans produce higher air pressure than larger 140mm fans which is more effective with thick radiators. If your case allows only 280 you still get enough cooling just a little less and prolly more noise.
>>
>>103058558
>If your case allows only 280 you still get enough cooling just a little less and prolly more noise.
what? i always heard it was the opposite, a 280mm cools quiet than a 360mm because the fans are bigger, is the static pressure difference between 120 and 140 really that drastic?
