It's not bait. Even while complaining about outsourcing he feels this knee-jerk compulsive need to class-distance himself from other workers who experienced the same thing and reinforce the consensus that they should be mocked and ignored. It's funny and shows that he's arrogant and bad at recognizing patterns and therefore deserves what's happening to him.

I'm the one white guy on a tier 2 managed services team that's otherwise exclusively jeets and I talk to a minimum of 2 c suite users from our clients every single day who grill me about why we're offshoring our support (we're not, Canada is just overrun with jeets, management is nothing but jeets, and they only hire jeets,) and ask why they can't just talk to me every time because I fix their problems in 5-10 minutes instead of just pissing around and goldbricking for hours/days but I'm LITERALLY not allowed to mention this or I'm racist

Are there any suggestions you guys have for places that like people with an interest in high speed numerical algorithms? It's my interest.
I wrote some code which outperforms some BLAS functions for large data (at least, for certain architectures), and I'm going to update it with some more code that also beats LAPACK by a pretty good factor.
I know supercomputing clusters sometimes like this, but in reality you really need to know someone to work at many of these places. I know how those systems work.
This will sound a bit stupid but I've never even written a CV before. I don't know how to market these things or where to look. I don't really have a social life and my main colleague died, so I wouldn't have a reference.
Looking for a job seems complicated, especially with a niche interest. How do you go about it? Do you know who else would be interested in this kind of thing?
>>

Offshoring and hiring third world migrants are practically the same thing. The only difference is that when you hire migrants you fuck up your company *and* the town it's in.

I really don't care anymore. My work is mind numbing but I'm too lazy to try for a job that's more exciting, and even if I did I highly doubt I'd pass interviews.
I just keep things working adding a simple feature here and there and the company doesn't give a fuck. I barely debug the code I write because I'm so familiar with every chunk of it there's no need for it.
Mediocre work for mediocre pay.
My value to this company is that I know the entire stack inside out.

Existential dread. That is what I'm feeling. Existential dread. 31 year old sourpuss. I go on hikes and play the piano, don't @ me with advice. I guess I need to get some pussy but I'm too much of a fucking nobody piece of shit asshole to get some. Also I'm chubby. FUCK.

We all can feel lonely together knowing others in this thread are lonely or bored too.

For me is the fact that online communities normie-fied and are based on already existing real life relationships, the same goes for online games. It's either anonymous matchmaking or normies banding on you if you're the unlucky pug in dota-clone of the week.

Didn't people promise that the information highway would be a place to meet other lonely asocial nerds from all over the globe, instead of fancy phone and TV for normalfags?

All I'm asking is ideas about what kind of places people may share these interests. I don't see much of a need for doomerism.

That's the normie way of socialization: you need to know people to get to know more people.

You can't just download Discord and get social there, if you know no channels, no friends to invite you somewhere.

I want mid 00's style: Hello I am autistic and I like green trains, and other nerds answer even if they're from Hong Kong. Sort of matchmaking like on forums or in mmos.

I'm not even complaining about privacy or needing a phone, just that you need friends to start on Discord.

Do you guys normally email places directly and just ask "hi here are my interests, do you want similar skills" or something?

No. He wants to staple green cards to every masters. We can see how thoroughly that policy decision has played in in Bongistan and Canada - third tier toilets becoming degree mills to enable jeet immigration fraud.

For tech workers, I think it would be worse. Even if Drumpf improves QOL by forcing cities to actually start arresting schizo vagrants and hoodrats. Inshallah, the displacement of rap with country as the soundtrack for trashy people means that our decade-long love affair of taking their complaints seriously is over, and we can start treating them like overgrown children like we did in the good old days of the 90s and 2000s. This does not solve the fundamental problem of tech being disrespected as a profession and treated as a red-headed cost center, compared to law, finance, or medicine.

WGU engineer reporting in
>>
I took a public sector COBOL job as a new grad because it was the only shit that was available. It's easy and pays enough for me to put a bit more than half my take home pay into savings, but the salary growth is minimal, like it's fine now but 10 years from now it'll still likely be in the high 5 figures, and its also just kinda boring writing in the most tedious programming language on earth for 1 or 2 hours a day then being out of work
So my questions are
1. How long should I wait before looking for a new job?
2. If in a few years I try to get into some completely different form of development, how useful will my experience be even if its completely irrelevant. Like I assume pivoting will be tough but I just want anything to avoid another 8 month 700 application job search again
3. I will likely soon be placed on a modernization team which means I'll be working with the guys who are converting the COBOL to Java. I am very good at Java but will probably not be writing any myself and have 0 professional experience in it. Would it be wise to completely lie on my resume to make it sound like I am mainly a Java programmer?
4. Is public sector seen as a stigma to have on your resume?
5. am I right for wanting to leave or is it just a grass is greener thing
>>
>>103053362
Yes you are right, start looking now. No there's no stigma unless you spend too much time there. Your experience isn't worthless, it shows you can hold a job. Yes, you can lie about using Java if you are actually good at it but you might get caught out if they ask about details on specific libraries/frameworks.

Because it's a cargo cult of what poor people think successful businessmen are like. There's a reason none of these guys are successful in [domain], and make their money selling courses to people who want to break into [domain]. Usually, they still make less than a good W-2 job.

The correct answer is almost always to study hard mathematic in high school, go to a good college, and get a prestigious internship - if you failed this step, get an MBA before 33 and get into the zaibatsu (this caps your earnings versus doing it the right way as an intern, but better than most Americans) or jeetcode hard algorithmic into Big Tech.

yeah most people don't even do an internship until at least 1.5 years from where you are at now
>who've built actual computers out of spare parts
building a PC is very easy in modern day my girlfriend who can barely use a cellphone has done it. Unless by spare parts you mean like electrical boards and shit that's impressive
>they know half a dozen languages at master level, they're putting wild projects on their githubs.
As someone who isn't very experienced yet, it is hard for you to judge how much skill and effort something takes to pull off. Programming in general there is often a loose correlation between how difficult something seems and how difficult it is. As for languages, once you know one language very well, you'll find it's very easy to pick up new ones
>multiple internships
doubt it unless their dad works at the company or something like that
Just have 1 internship, pay attention in data structures and algorithms class, get a presentable GPA, and have 1 or 2 quality projects - academic or personal - to talk about at interviews and you'll be fine

I'm a retarded third worlder with 2.9 GPA who spent 5 years in compsci repeating classes and semesters. My parents have wasted like $25k just for me and i can't code for shit. All my projects are made by someone else.

I want to make game projects but i don't know where that will lead me. I'm tired of webshitting and even low tier IT jobs like QA or helldesk. If i ended up working in govt or the military i guess I'll take it.

In this market I've been burned multiple times by companies going the distance, making me waste multiple days of PTO just to shoot me down after 4-5 rounds, and then I look online and see they've reposted the listing like they weren't serious about hiring in the first place. I'm not wasting my PTO on that shit anymore.
>>
>>103057343
Yeah. Applying for jobs has never worked for me though, I can only get interviews through recruiters on LinkedIn.

They didn't hire you, so why wouldn't they repost the listing?
>>
>>103057397
They send an email with the usual "we decided to choose another candidate" and then repost the listing. And I'm still seeing some of these listings for places I applied to months ago and got the template rejection email.

Most of my recent interactions have been recruiters on LinkedIn. I made it to the third round for a position where everything was on prem and managed with puppet and I still got eliminated. It has to be a bitch to find someone that can fill that role.
>>
>>103056929
I really don't get what they're even gaining info wise at this point. Like I got hired with 30 other people simultaneously and I could tell by the end of the first week I had everyone mentally categorized as good employee vs lied their way through the interview, and I was only wrong on 2 of them. And that's just with casual observation, if I could actually ask pointed questions I think I could've had them all pegged in 15-20 minutes
>>
how to look better for recruiters
>>
>>103053978
Let me offer a humble proposal: don’t interview anyone who hasn’t accomplished anything. Ever. Certificates and degrees are not accomplishments; I mean real-world projects with real-world users. There is no excuse for software developers who don’t have a site, app, or service they can point to and say, “I did this, all by myself!” in a world where Google App Engine and Amazon Web Services have free service tiers, and it costs all of $25 to register as an Android developer and publish an app on the Android Market.

Man how the fuck do I change industry in this market? I've been working as a engineer in a finance and accounting platform using python and django and this work is boring as fuck. I want to do something more meaningful instead of dealing with bureaucracies and artificial complexities created by accountants. I would like to also move away from django and python in general because anything enterprise written with these tools is destined to be a nightmare to maintain. Yet, despite 7 YoE and plenty of experience with Node.js from previous jobs, and some Golang and Rust from personal projects, I've been constantly rejected/ghosted. The way, I understand it works in Canada in the UK is the jeets come for a Masters and then disappear into under-the-table work. This happens in the US too, but I think the incentives of stapling a greencard to every MS or MA is to empower TTTs to become degree mills - devaluing our degrees in addition to perpetuating the usual jeet scams/money laundering surrounding hotels and gas stations.
>>
>>103058088
>jeets come for a Masters and then disappear into under-the-table work.
nah they come here with certificates from Durgasoft and then bitch and moan that they can't make 800k starting with it because their "advanced degree" isn't recognized by canada or (most) canadian companies

most of them are being "sponsored" (imported by the container) by high caste jeets that are landed/naturalized and own stuff but trick them into coming here and then they all end up working at Wendys

it's more insidious though because those same jeets own apartment buildings, grocers, etc. and charge outrageous prices that the jeets they are importing don't mind (since they live 20 to a room and eat at their boss's house) but the locals now have to contend with 1 room apartments being 2500/mo and a dozen eggs costing nine dollars.

definitely a third world thing. your parents wants you to work in the govt, so you have to say yes trying to apply for the civil service selection. whether you got it or not in the end, it doesn't matter. but if you don't say yes at first and follow the first rounds of interviews and tests, they will always bring it up during random talks to belittle you.

same thing goes for other favors too. "anon can you edit this picture for me?" "anon can you make this presentation for me?" "anon can you write down 100 UML diagrams" "anon can you input this million data to excel?"

We had a workplace range day and I made Top Shot! I am very proud of this and it's definitely cute and impressive and not super weird that I'm good with a rifle, and it's definitely super good return on resume too!
>>
>>103060107
That sounds like it's begging for a workplace accident.

I'm an IT guy for the navy; it was a routine re-qualification on the service rifle and branch-relevant pistol. Everyone from pay clerks to spec ops assaulters has to do it!

And yes, it is begging for workplace accidents. Most of the morning is safety briefs for people who have been dodging requals since basic and only barely passed it then. We had nothing even close, but the end-of-day "you're all good, here's the news, now go home" brief stressed that it went without incident hard enough that I had to wonder how badly these events could go

I made some noise last year about having range days at a proper private/commercial range for teambuilding though; I am tempted to restart that noise. we have money allocated for that kind of thing.
>>
>>103060175
I wasn't referring to accident in the literal sense, but in the "I fucking hate all of you and you just handed me a loaded gun" sense.
>>
>>103060208
I knew exactly what you mean.

Luckily people are humans, and can see when you're cracking up. They just don't care.

We had a guy like that at basic. Curiously, he wasn't allowed onto the firing line with the rest of us, and I don't believe he had any kind of meaningful career in the forces.

Though also, the local range I was thinking of using had an incident like that -- someone rented some guns, and domed himself right one the line.

All the more reason to do it with the IT krew; if you can operate a computer and have admin credentials for a network and not do anything shady, surely you can operate a Tavor X95 (best rifle on the market) without shooting your coworker
>>
>>103060271
>surely you can operate a Tavor X95 (best rifle on the market) without shooting your coworker
What if your coworker is a pajeet?

Then I hope he's either very familiar with the INSAS and can translate those skills to the AR platform, or he's a scammer who will not make it through a deployment without being flown home, quitting, and losing his pension. If we're both lucky, we're both fellows of a brown water navyand he'll be making the same shitposts I am, except getting a little more mad about saar posts.

Either he's a landed Brahmin who is absolutely my enemy, and I'm his, and we both know it, but now is not the time for open combat, or he's some imported slave who is just here for the best time he can have so it's my duty to enable at least a few smiles.

I'm an untrained idiot, a furfaggot, a complete retard, probably autistic, and I likely place value on incorrect things.

I see worse people than me making way more money, though. Where are the jobs? Yeah, I'm a shitty werido, but shittier more weird weirdos make bank doing nothing. Where's my slice?

I don't do a lot where I work, but I do it well; even the dumbest niggas I've ever seen in my life still manage to weasel their way into shit like port operations or air traffic control. But am I just doomed to play pretend on a series of do-nothing ships and shore units?

Even if I don't get to do anything I want to, when do I get my high-paying job in air traffic or port control!?

and most of what i do is in voice with brevity codes and shit, the way i write is not at all like how i talk on the radio. and business writing is its own game
>and think
it's not my fault. every time i say something, i have to fight tooth and nail to prove it correct and even then it's usually disregarded for no good reason. i have done a lot of things wrong, but when I decide something is absolutely the case, it's not frivolous bullshit; if I make a clear statement, I believe in it. and if I haven't done that kind of thinking, it's because I don't care about the subject and whatever works works; I don't care beyond that and try to make that clear.
>>
>>103060474
I'm sorry to say we have no autistic/retarded under-performer roles available at this time. We appreciate your interest, and will keep your resume on file in the event a suitable position becomes available in the future (you do not need to re-apply, we will contact you).

I have heard that you are seeking L1 help desk positions for "Windows Networks" in a hostile, toxic, agile environment. I have 5+ years experience with Windows Server 2008 and can pop a melon-sized target with .223 at 200 meters. I've also heard that you are seeking a position for such a person to operate on an off-shore arctic platform, and also have need for a P25 trunked radio administrator general HF/LF radio operator. I've got over a year at sea doing exactly that, but I guess that's not good enough.
>>
Fuck it, maybe instead of moping and trying to be an IT nerd, I should get into shape and just go pilot or SAR or something. It's looking like it'd be easier than making any kind of money off of computers.

Fuck it, I'm a great shot and scared enough of death to know cover exists; does Xe have IT positions? How does one become a radioman for Executive Solutions? Does GardaWorld do anything at sea? I've been "happily" employed for a while, but it's all AD monkey shit inbetween telling users to stop shoving bubble gum in their laptop fans, how do I leverage that into something fulfilling? i dont wanna deploy again unless i have to but having deployed how is that not enough experience for the local ferry service

why would hiring even more developers that are cheaper even fix any of the current problems? Especially when we cant even refine enough useful items

On an unrelated note, how is the job market in Europe? My current employer just starts to annoy me with their incompetence
>>
Had two interviews last week, recruiter calls me on Friday for one and says the team loved me and are finishing some last couple things but 99% sure an offer is coming my way
2nd interview the interviewer tells me I am a great fit and asks me when can I start. Took 4 months with 5 years of experience but it's looking good

pajeets never goes to construction work unless they have no other way.

It's also the reason they swarmed CS because they could lazing around while being praised as engineers.

Yeah interviewed at close to 30 companies, probably sent over 200 applications in total only applying to senior level roles. I did get an offer 2 months ago but it was a company 100 miles away and I researched the company further and found it wasn't as stable as I was led to believe.
>>
>>103062313
why do you need to cope with that
>>
>>103062776
I went a year unemployed. Hundreds of applications, a couple dozen screener calls, and 5 or so "full loops" (5 or 6 rounds)... all rejected. And then last week I got 3 offers at basically the same time... One was pretty low, but I expected that from them. The other two were more than I was making before, one significantly more... Idk what happened. Can't just be the interest rates. Maybe I finally got better at interviewing, or maybe I just got lucky. Who knows...
>>
>>103062896
I had some final round interviews a few months ago too but no offers. I’m actually glad in retrospect because the offer I’m taking is absolutely perfect in every way and I am actually excited about work for once. So I guess it pays not to be desperate and wait for the right opportunity.
>>
>>103063076
Probably all of the above, plus increased hiring of mid level/seniors fueled by investors getting fomo about AI.

My patience is extremely thin.
Another one: "corporate says you MUST upgrade this shit internal app to Tomcat 11 and Java 21".
It's some shit done with JSP and Netbeans 6 visual web editor ages ago. It was done when JSP was transitioning to JSF and you have scriptlets and half baked beans (generated automatically by Netbeans but also touched manually by people, a clusterfuck) rather than face components or whatever, so it's not straightforward to update.
"What do you mean it doesn't work, it's enterprise, just update it."
Sick of meme frameworks, if they want a meme framework they can create a React team and make them do all the frontend shit and micromamage them to hell and back.

Who should I vote for, twg? I'm legitimately evenly split between kamala (less chaos, slightly better economic policy, obvious downsides), not voting at all (maybe the moral choice) or Trump (tiny chance at reversing American decline at the cost of extreme instability and more billionaire corruption). Bonus points go to the candidate who will do the most damage to the software industry.
