why are the cables for the mobo white but for GPU black?
also the cables from the 24 pin connector look so clutered and chaotic.
I basically want to copy this build but with better cable managment.
which PSU should I go for if I want all white and tidy cables+connectors?

Also way overspending on the PSU, something basic like this (still semi-modular) is plenty for $65 less:

Also for the same price as the 4600G swap it for the 5500GT, same core count but Zen 3 instead of Zen 2 based with slightly higher clocks.

Cheaper B860 & B850 boards soon not that really matters because Arrow Lake is a disaster and for AMD 600-series chipset boards support Zen 5 anyway.
>>
>>103073201
Really strong elastic bands. I didn't want a bare M.2 and I had a couple heatsinks leftover from my last build. Nice aluminum heat sink, thermal pads and the bands. No idea the longevity, but they seem strong. Set of 8 was like $10.

Planning on upgrading soon, probably once black friday sales start. Thoughts on this? Upgrading because the 1080's starting to show it's age and I'd like this thing to last another couple years
5800x3d prices are asinine so I'll live with the little drop in performance with the 5700x3d
GPU needs to be Nvidia. I use VR a lot and from a friend's personal experience AMD drivers have a ton of issues there. Also to dick around with local AI of course. Don't think I can go higher than 4070tiS for both PSU reasons and budget reasons
as for the RAM, is it better for me to just slot in another 2x8 or should I just throw those out and grab a 2x16? Grabbing another 2x8 would be cheaper at least but I know MBs and their DIMM slots can be finicky little shits
the compatibility warning just lists that I need to update BIOS

It's better to get 2x16, which might not be THAT much more expensive.
Consider checking out aliexpress for a 5700x3d, I think it's like 180 CAD there. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007108289451.html
However if it's more expensive than I remember, consider CanadaComputers. They have a bundle for a 5700x3d & 32gb 3200mhz CL16 for 300 cad (probably + shipping and taxes but whatever)

Has anyone here used both the Arctic P14 Max and the BeQuiet Silent Wings 4? Are the SW4s worth the price or should I just go for the P14s? I don't mind if the fans are not completely silent and make a bit of noise, as long as it's a consistent noise and not a weird hum or such.

Found a used 3090. Is it a good buy at 750bux? I'm a thirdie and new xtx and 4080s cost around 1200bux post taxes. I was thinking about using it for llama and I have one high refresh rate monitor.

>is it better for me to just slot in another 2x8 or should I just throw those out and grab a 2x16? Grabbing another 2x8 would be cheaper at least but I know MBs and their DIMM slots can be finicky little shits
Once you start throwing out your old RAM, may as well just buy AM5 and an R5 7600. Unless you know you need more RAM, I'd just stick to the 16 GB you've got.

Make sure you update BIOS before removing the old CPU
>>

Gaming has the AMD on top. Productivity has Intel on top. At least 14th gen Intels. Supposedly, the 9800x3d will show big gains in the productivity area.

I'm not too sure, I think I remember there being a 7600+mobo+ram bundle like a month ago that I no longer see there, but I don't think you need to rush it since most if not all the other bundles I saw are still up

This isn't relevant to me personally, as I don't foresee myself buying an x8 lane graphics card. However, for poorfags, it's extremely relevant, as likely low end RTX 50 and RX 5000 will be x8 lane graphics cards designed for PCIe 5.0
>>
>>103073462
>Once you start throwing out your old RAM, may as well just buy AM5 and an R5 7600.
doing so would give up the advantage of being on the AM4 chipset. He'd spend like what, 200$ more for equivalent performance?
That bundle I showed is 300, 7600+32gb 6000CL30 + mobo is 550. That's 250$ for something that doesn't perform better (or if it does, only marginally). All you get in exchange is the ability to slot in a new cpu in a few generations, but that's the exact thing he's trying to do now that you're trying to talk him out of.
>>
How to best clean out an old heatsink and fans to bring it to my next build? I flushed the heatsink with hot water, there's still some dust caked on that I can't reach between the fins. The fans I used q-tips to remove all visible dust, do I have to open them up somehow to clean inside?

Assuming you can trust intel with their new 5 year warranty included for free with 13/14th gen and 0x12b bios update, and you dont really care about the power draw, the 14900k is an overall better cpu right now than the 7800x3d.

I've taken an oath against chiplets so I'm gonna be stuck on intel until one of these two companies makes a cpu that isn't for niggers again. I can kind of tolerate an io die because that's not really any different than the old northbridge designs but multiple compute? Stop being niggers. E core P core it's easy to see it for what it is, a transitory cope by intel for them not having a good enough architecture to challenge amd. I do believe intel will get rid of them as soon as possible. Shitlets save so much money though, who cares about latency? We will be selling 64 core chips with 4 chiplets and still 2 goddamn niggertastic memory channels 6 years from now also pcie lanes will go from 24 to 20 somehow.

For a dual GPU system, does it make sense to go with an AIO for the CPU so that the ambient heat is pushed through the rads instead of using a dual tower cooler that would need case fans to exhaut the heat out

Using an aio on the cpu set as an exhaust is indeed the best temps your gpu can get. Negative pressure (more exhaust than intake) is also better temps; though usually recommended against because it's dustier.

Amd need to turn a ccd off on their 9950x (core parking became mandatory on zen 5) to avoid calamity latency penalties related to effectively having a dual socket system. They gave up trying to fix it with scheduling so they just have half the cpu kill itself. It's pathetic. Intel's continued attempts to use scheduler optimizations and APO to fix the big little problems without just shutting down half the chip is kind of admirable in a way

your best bet is to have a pc enthusiast friend who would be willing to both help you pick out parts and assemble it for you. The problem with prebuilts is they cut corners for margins in many, many ways. If you can't build the system yourself with love and care, have someone else who will; you can't get that from any sort of business unfortunately. Your second best bet would be like a computer shop probably, not a big name, a locally owned one.
>>
>>103075706
Not necessarily. You will always pay more for less quality components unfortunately. Learning some basics here will help you sort any issues you may come across with a prebuilt. Having someone help you with a build is the way to go if possible. Modern computers are basically legos so if you have any mechanical mind you will be fine building your own.

Outside of games like total war where the cpu actually matters, for 90% of games the CPU is only a factor if it's not heavily bottlenecking your GPU.

its a bit above the sweet spot of 200€ for a cpu to have stock issues
7800x3d was simply unmade to push people to buy the new more expensive cpu

Physically too far away from the CPU, would be molasses slow. Think about how bad the latency regression is on Arrow Lake and thus the gaming performance and that's just moving the IMC off the compute tile but still on-chip.
>>
>>103077647
Reyard here, in that case why does Intel benefit so much from faster ram if it's so far away from the CPU?
>>
>>103077647
>Physically too far away from the CPU, would be molasses slow
Not really, though it would be more appropriate to call such a thing L4 cache. Light can travel 3 cm in 1 nanosecond.
>Think about how bad the latency regression is on Arrow Lake and thus the gaming performance and that's just moving the IMC off the compute tile but still on-chip
This is Intel's fault, AMD moved the IMC off the CCDs in Zen 2 and their architecture has much better latency characteristics.
>>103077674
It still goes faster even if it's slow compared to moar cache.

The corners of the "X" form points of stress concentration. The vibration from being dropped flowed to the weakest point of the card--those corners, and snapped them off.
You can see examples of this in action on those submarine disaster analysis videos.
Hollow half domes ironically are stronger in compression than filled half-domes because of this property.

Depends
If you are using hard tubes or ZMT/EDPM tubing, you can get away with a few years with decent coolant.
Soft tubes you probably want to change coolent more often.

Just don't use straight tap water or use tap water when mixing coolent.
>>
>>103079004
i'm probably going on 2-3 years with my koolance coolant which has that as it's lifespan. i'm just wondering what happens beyond that. Is it just going to get worse performance or will it start clogging my blocks / corroding them?

I was originally just using distilled water with biocide but that was eating my blocks away when I checked them.
>>
Man what's the deal with ASRock making most of their mobos white, like they're the best price but it would look so out of place for my build, same with the MSI Pro one.

In the same vein, is the MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk a good buy? I plan to use the PCI 5.0 features down the line when they start becoming available.

It all depends on the current condition of the loop. if there is nothing corroding or growing then the coolant has life left in it.

Coolent life could be near indefinite assuming everything is proper. I've only had my loop for 2 years so I can't speak from experience. I do know AIOs are literally mixed metal loops but have no issue with 5 years+ of use, no reason an all copper loop can't last as long without service.

Once I get my bits and pieces together to extend my loop, I'll see if XT-1 Nuke actually has a 5 year life

its horribly expensive, those noctua fans cost $32-$40 EACH
if you want to do it for noise so you can set your fans to lower rpm, then go ahead, but anything beyond 1 exhaust+2 intake gives little to no benefit in temps

undervolt it and make sure it gets enough air, if your case lets you install fans on the bottom then absolutely do that

only way I can see it making sense is if they really need efficiency and the client is willing to pay for the extra $20 to achieve that.

assuming Im not getting a bottom-of-the-barrel SSD thatll break in a year, does it really matter what SSD you get if its just for gaming? did we reach the point where load time is limited to how well the game's loading optimization (or whatever its called) is?

CPU single core performance matter more for loading time than the difference between random gen4.0 nvme drives

Power scales exponentially with clock speeds whereas performance scales linearly so the chip will be more efficient. At least within reason. Once you go below around 2.5-3ghz the power reduction really starts to fall off.
