Isn't that concept proven to be not working in first place?
Sometimes rising the back of laptop just by a little allows for more air exchange and it might be enough.
Are you mobile with this laptop or does it lie on desk most of the time?

Its on my bed most of the time, the last laptop fan I had worked somewhat okay especially in the summer and my MSI laptop only has one fan so a external fan is needed
>>

>Its on my bed most of the time

the problem with beds or soft surfaces like that is that the vents get suffocated

>- What are the reason to not buy it? What would be the price barrier for such device?
The N100 is just Alder Lake with 4 E-Cores, this sounds good for power efficiency but for active use you really want P-Cores since you don't want to get annoying slowdowns and it's debatable if you really get more efficient if you also have to wait twice as long for everything
Boxes with the i3-1215U (2 P-Cores 8 E-Cores) go for below 300
>- Are those CPUs only available as integral part of mobos?
Yes
>- Are there manufacturers / mobos tier in such matter?
Yes, Intel or Asus NUCs would be the gold standard but I don't see cheaper ones crapping out on you
>- Are there any other CPU models worth attention?
AMD's R3 5300U looks interesting

The cheapest one on your ISP's approved list, or just rent from your ISP unless it's abusively expensive. Modems are poorly standardized. It doesn't pay to invest in them usually.

Because ISPs usually incentivize you to not buy your own by making theirs really cheap to lease or simply part of the bill. They don't want people getting married to modems because there are no good modems.

I'm on an old thinkpad with mcafee trash trying to get rid of it. McAfee framework is running at 100% cpu making it basically unusable. Try to stop or end it in task manager, error 5 access denied. ive got a couple of questions
is it possible to play say a 4k video on a 1080p screen without the video quality suffering?
and would a 4k screen on a laptop be pointless and pretty unnoticeable or would it be an improvement over 1080p?
>>
>>103103922
It's possible and you would (technically) get better quality due to downscaling.
>>
>>103103922
No, it is impossible to play 4K on 1080p.
3840x2160 pixels do not fit into 1920x1080 pixels. It's 4x the amount, so any way you spin it you're losing at least 75% of the detail when fitting 4K onto 1080p.

Now here's the catch.
Is 4K even 4K? No. Most of the time, it isn't.
There's this thing called autism, I mean, chroma subsampling and video compression scams.

If you have a 4:2:0 4K video that video has lossy 3840x2160 luminance values per pixel (lossy compressed so not much actual per-pixel detail) and has absolutely ZERO per-pixel color information as it stored color in 2x2 chunks.
Effectively this means LOSSY 4K video can be downsampled to deliver a higher quality 1080p than a lossy 1080p video, so in effect 4K = 1080p.

The moment you put for example a lossless screen recording or something with actual fine detailes rendered properly in 4K you lose all that when scaling down, but if you're watching youtube videos or netsheckels shows you'll always get a higher quality visual output when downscaling the 4K streams onto your 1080p display. The key thing is they're all lossy 4:2:0 streams with less-than-stated resolution so they're not "real" 4K.

Fake 4K is basically just better 1080p. Fake 4K delivers 1920x1080 information for color which for some retarded 1:1 isn't the standard. It should be, but it isn't, because of muh REDUCE FILESIZE AT ALL COSTS!!! autism.

Nah, you can just download an entire channel by feeding yt-dlp the channel URL. Just make sure to set min and max sleep interval, write subs, and sponsorblock-remove sponsor.
>>
>>103104145
By simply possessing a video with 3840x2160 pixels and viewing it fullscreen on a 1080p display it will be getting downsampled by default in most players by your GPU.
>>
>>103103517
Blades aren't really meant for use ouside of their carriers/hubs/whatever. Get a motherboard with ECC support and a case that supports or includes hard drive back planes. Ideally with a mini SAS connector.
You don't strictly need ECC but it helps prevent bitrot.

>>
>>103104624
What's even more shameful is how it has actually gotten worse over time.
They continually drop bitrates and switch to inferior codecs.

H.265 for example is inferior to H.264 because they all use H.265 for retard shit racing to the bottom. They also have different tests to skew results in favor of H.265 being "better" than H.264 at lower bitrates and delivering inferior quality because they'll do low pass filtering then measure per-pixel or per-block artifacting and it's no surprise why the nu-codicks do better

they're compressing inferior detals with a blurrier target where all skin (like foreheads) lose their actual fucking texture and they measure the outline edges while ignoring the fine high frequency details

I'm not a luddite
I know H.265 is technically better and has a higher potential and supports bit-for-bit lossless in certain modes
but NONE of the big tech companies is using it for those purposes
it's a bit starving scam where they all try to deliver the shittiest quality and bitrate possible before people

There's no reason why we had 8Mbps 1080p on Netflix 10 years ago and we're getting 1Mbps 1080p on Netflix (for example their own content, Wednesday show, not even 3rd party) no codec is 8x as "good"
we are literally being jewed by these fucks

Yeah, what the other Anon said. I'd assume any good modern media player that's using your GPU to decode the video in HW is downscaling a 2160p frame into the 1080p output of your monitor. You shouldn't need to do anything, you just play a 4k video. Only thing is that you might run into dropped frames if your system is not fast enough to decode 4k video.

Pretty soon I'll be applying for a government job (Australia) that requires an advanced security clearance and as part of that its likely I'll have to give permission for the government to search my internet history. I'm not particularly worried since I don't look at anything illegal, but like most people here I am a degenerate and while I can cope with some spooks knowing my browsing data I'd obviously rather they weren't looking at my history.

My question is: how much would They actually be able to see, cause I can't really get a clear answer? They wouldn't be wiretapping me or taking my device to scan or anything, but would they be able to do more than just check social media and shit cause stuff online ranges from they can only see stuff like domains and a vpn protects you to they can see your whole browsing history and can get full access to shit like your google account.

Again, not worried just kinda wanna know if I gotta brace myself for some dude in a suit to ask why I sometimes jack it to furry porn and write gay ass fucking fanfiction.

I have an actual clearance from Canada. different countries so grain of salt, but clearance requirements are standardized by NATO so there isn't much fluctuation in the requirements from country to country

>its likely I'll have to give permission for the government to search my internet history.
I didn't, and this is not something investigators of any sort routinely do.

Consider the question of how they would even do it? if they need you to provide your browser user profile, lol lmao thinking that wouldn't be a bigger pain than it's worth when dealing with non tech savvy clearance seekers. if you had to relinquish your entire device, it's both a huge expense for them to handle and do forensics on all that hardware, and a massive liability since you would be giving up your gear voluntarily and expect it back in the same condition.

How "internet history" comes up in criminal cases is usually by quasi-legal seizure of a device or subpoena to a specific service like E-mail or social media. I don't believe security clearance investigations are enough for search warrants or subpoenas but also I'm not a lawyer and not Australian.

However if you're been an idiot and used your personal email to sign up to e621, that will show up in a casual search anyone can do so they could find out about that. Think less "Swordfish" and more "Kiwi Farms"

Also keep in mind that these investigations' objective isn't to find out if you're a gross dude, it's to find out if you are either dishonest, easy to compromise by hostile agencies, or already a hostile agent. And "Easy to compromise" isn't "likely to get hacked because he uses WeChat" it's shit like "has been bankrupt 9 times so might sell secrets to cover debts"

i'd disagree. the age of the medium assumes a landscape monitor between 20 and 30 inches in size.
4chan looks really dumb on really big monitors, but is usable and you can just zoom the page a bit. phoneposting is a pain in the ass because thumbnails are too small to see and even short posts take up the whole screen. but that's a good thing, fuck phoneposters

when 4chan was made, which i'll remind you was a clone of an existing imageboard, 20" monitors were not common, most people didn't have bigger than 17" in my experience around 2003, unless they had an LCD, of which the bigger (of the common sizes) was 19"

>but didnt notice if they say if your project should have a main.py or something
You don't. You can use whatever file as the starting point.
This also goes for the main function: there is no defined function name for the main function. You can use whatever name you'd like, just don't forget to call it so the function is ran when you execute the file.
However, if you do have a __main__.py file, this is considered the file to execute when you execute an entire folder (or .zip file) containing python files.
>>

Nope. Having next to no conventions is the main reason why Python is so beginner-friendly.
>Also any recommendation for external software to run besides ruff?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KISS_principle
Ruff is the best linter and formatter for Python, but if you're just figuring out how Python works using it will work more against you than for you.
Ignore all the configuration bullshit and just start writing software.
>OOP
Please don't. OOP is terrible. Python isn't Java. You're not forced to adhere to OOP principles. You're free!
Instead of learning OOP, start writing actual software instead. Go make a file parser, add pyplot to your program, create a nethack clone...
All in all, ignore ANYTHING that is not actually writing software. Write first, optimize later.

Oh and if you want ideas for things to program that isn't leetcode problems, check out: https://adventofcode.com/

I'm sorry to say, anon, but recruiters only rarely actually look at someone's code.
It's much more important to have a diverse portfolio so they are assured that you're not just a one-trick pony.
Bonus points if you're working on or have worked on software that people actually use.

OOP is terrible, but if you feel most comfortable writing OOP code, then by all means; go for it.

That logic doesn't follow at all. You'd be wiring inferior surge protector in sequence with surge protector, which does nothing. Sometimes UPS batteries just die prematurely. It doesn't need to have a cause outside the battery. If the UPS is kicking in literally all the time and the batteries are dying from wear, you need a more robust backup. Maybe something involving a flywheel.

Nah you're practically limited by the wires in the wall. Surge protectors don't block surges, they just short line to neutral if the difference between them goes too high. If a UPS has AVR it can use its transformer to absorb transients, which makes it better.

I recently brought an S23 Ultra Pro. I'm facing 2 problems with it.
First, it doesn't seem to connect to my PC or laptop via USB. My previous phone could connect with no problem and I could transfer files. But, when I connect this phone with USB cable to my PC, it just charges but doesn't transfer files. I changed the USB configuration in settings to trasnfer files but it doesn't do anything. It doesn't show up as connected.

Secondly, I connected it with a pen drive which on one end has a USB port and the other end is a type-C port that can connect to my phone's port. It successfully connects then but then I face problems with file transfer. It copies files upto a point and then says "Maximum number of characters reached". What does it even mean? Somehow one time it successfully copied a bunch of large files, but again, now I face the error trying to copy a small file. Storage shouldn't be a problem since it has 256 GB storage.

Posted here last week, following up.

My BIOS seems unable to apply the onboard XMP profile to my RAM. Should be 1.35V at 3200Mhz, but I'm stuck at 1.2V 2666Mhz. BIOS update fixed nothing.
I'm thinking to just try manually OC'ing my RAM in order to reach 3200 target - which is what these sticks are advertised for. Does that seem like a reasonable next step?

Side note, really fucking annoying having to cold start the PC each time attempting to fix this because I have a platter NAS array in this system, so not good on the drives.

On the guest? It's the host's job to host a DHCP server.
And why do you guise even do DHCP like everywhere at all times? Can't you just give your devices - virtual or real - an IP-address and be happy?
>ip link shows that wlan0 and wlan0.100 have the same MAC address

Wireless? You are majorly confusing me.

Although your story didn't give much info. You basically said "my VM has an adapter named wlan and it runs a DHCP client"
>>
>>103114022
Super crude solution that can easily lock you out:
>know where you are going to visit and who's internets you are going to be using
>very slowly figure out what IP blocks those ISPs are using
>fashion a firewall rule to only allow those blocks to access the service in question
Retards call blocks "ranges". (a block falls under the definition of range but it's still stupid as they are addressed as blocks, not ranges)
Used this when hosting a simple link page on my home server that I accessed only from my work phone. Required defining a handful of blocks even when I only moved around my small town, the IP pool is state-wide.
ip saddr { 217.140.128.0/17, 213.28.0.0/16, 193.208.0.0/14, 176.72.0.0/16, 109.240.0.0/16 } ip protocol tcp tcp dport 4443 accept

^ NFtables entry that allows a handful of IP blocks to access TCP port 4443.
Yet another stupid ass solution:
>security thru obscurity: run the service at weird upper port
Like the mentioned 4443. Doesn't protect anything but makes your usual port scanner miss it. They likely aren't doing full scans on you.
