What I might actually be autistic about is the color actually.
Check this image. The viewsonic has perfect srgb coverage while the koorui misses huge chunks of the blue hue, who cares about its coverage beyond that, it's going to be clamped either way.

there are some videos comparing 360/480hz OLED (without BFI) with 360/540hz LCD (strobed) and it's close enough that you might not even perceive the blur reduction unless you're extra sensitive to it
but yeah BFI is a PITA to implement and goes against what OLED is even good at in the first place (HDR and high brightness granularity) so I get why it hasn't seen much evolution yet
>>103160135
you should make absolutely sure the Viewsonic doesn't compromise its color accuracy with strobing enabled if you really care about it. I've had multiple monitors exhibit extreme color shifts with strobing enabled
>who cares about its coverage beyond that
tons of people actually but for your usecase it's indeed pointless

Kek. They should stick with 14900k on their gaming lineup until novalake drops and only offer 285k on their business machines where it belongs.

You'd be better off asking /mkg/, but I just replaced the $60-70 K4 with their $210 Q6 Max flagship. K4 was a very sturdy board, didn't have any problems with it for almost 5 years, even though I treated it like shit. The Q6 has been the best board I've typed on, by far, I would say they're a solid brand, but it's probably worth doing more research on the specific model you're interested in. They have a spinoff brand called Lemokey, targeting gamers, that's apparently more affordable but with the same quality.

I've decided to go with a cheap 1080p instead.
koorui 24e3 which has a 8 bit panel and extremely good response times for pixels seem attractive, MSI MAG 256F has 8 bit + 2 frc but I cannot find anything whatsoever about its g2g responses.
It's also 89 ppi instead of 92, never used a 89 ppi monitor can you even spot the difference from 92?
>>
>>103160280
Lungs are animu?
>>
>>103160291
NTA but calibration can't always fix color accuracy, depending on how flexible your monitor is with color settings and if it has other issues (gamma change with temperature comes to mind).

Don't count on Windows to act nice with ICC profiles either, some programs just straight up won't take account of them.
>>
>>103160335
That's why you use global calibration via DWM_Lut.
Yes, some panels are very badly behaved.
I imagine that gamma changing with the temperature of the monitor is like a pre-2012 thing; it sounds insane. You would visibly see it even if it shifted a little, particularly if you have some fond test images.
I have a Dell U2414H 60Hz from 2014 that hasn't even shifted much in its default profiles; my manual calibrations last me months with no shift when verified. Good panel.

Thoughts on this build for 5080/5090? Wondering if I could cut costs by switching to an 870 RS Pro for the motherboard, a phantom spirit for the cooler, and by finding a cheaper PSU, or waiting for a good sale.
>>
>>103160365
>gamma changing with the temperature of the monitor is like a pre-2012
I wish, but while uncommon it's still very much there even on very expensive displays.

Issues like these are hard to observe in a review scenario where you only spend a limited amount of time on each monitor, hence why I believe Rtings and others need to diversify their testing methodology (especially with OLED).

Crazy how there is no universally good monitor
There is one or more of each pc component that will do everything great with zero compromises for its use cases

But no such case for monitors, even top range oleds dont do everything perfectly, always one bit where they cheaped out, there is not one monitor that does everything

>>
>>103160688
Your Nvidia GPU crashes in Gdeflate games compared to AMD and you have to compromise on Linux. It also connects to your display which dictates your VRR and color output so it's way more important
>>
>>103160703
Using loonix is the compromise, you are trading functionality and stability for freedom

It doesn't actually work in cudimm mode. It only works in bypass mode on zen5 so you don't get the benefit of cudimm

Should I wait for RTX 5 cards? I don't do much if at all AAA gaymen, mostly indie games, but I do lots of SD generation and drawing, modeling quite a bit. I've looked around but new grafix cards are still expensive as shit and there doesn't seem to be a good reason to upgrade to AM5/Zen 5 yet.

I'm definitely looking into upgrading my monitor, I feel constrained for space.

the fact is even the shitty A620/B840 is enough because pcie is forward and backwards compatible so even if you've got a pcie 5.0 nvme drive for some reason in two years time it will just run at 4x pcie 4.0.
also, even the 4090 is barely affected by running in 16x pcie 3.0 so its not like a 16x 4.0 slot is going to be obsolete any time soon.

Monitor total package power when running Prime95 on small/smallest, it'll do 120W on 4 GHz all core at 1.3V override. That goes up to 150W at 4.1 GHz. The 3700X was a hot chip and often suffers from overvolting OOB even beyond this.

The Phantom Spirit 120 SE is almost half the price of the Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360 where I live, which its self competes with the new Noctua cooler on price.

The PS120SE can be had for around $51 since retailers actually began stocking it here at the eleventh hour (low stock albeit) so you don't have to pay chink sellers second hand. The Liquid Freezer III 280 is $94.
>>
>>103162123
>nta but a 212 is more than capable of dissipating
It might be a quirk with the 3700X packaging wise, since it eats the chip at that clock speed doing Cinebench, or it could be the nature of Prime95 being a synthetic power virus. I concluded the stability test was a failure because it couldn't pass Prime95 without an error on one of the cores, though it passed Cinebench MT. Checking HwMonitor however revealed the 95c temperature that it hit on the cooler, though the paste might have been too old.

You probably don't 'have to' but you should.
No, it won't damage the CPU, at worst, if the BIOS is super old, it won't post. Also, flashback is so painless and easy to do that there's no reason not to. But like >>103162181 said, the BIOS is new enough on these that the 9000 series is already supported. You'll still want to update to the latest version though.
>>
>>103162153
IIRC P95 hits current limits which could cause a crash if you've got everything locked down. Packaging is definitely a consideration too - those big 32nm chips were a lot easier to keep cool. I certainly wouldn't recommend one for a 9800X3D but it's not like it'll trip the thermal shutoff at stock settings; rather cut boost which is enough reason to avoid it when you've spent $500+ on the CPU.

I was sitting at newegg they said they would drop at 9am. refreshed the page every 10 seconds from 2 minutes before until 9 then every 5 seconds from then until 2-3m after. then i saw the -out of stock- thing. was like wtf?

I was on a rebbit discord (bapc) and checked there and someone said, right when i opened it, its available on amazon.

Also I should say these prices look pretty high. In the US and west Europe they're more like $35. You might want to have a look around for other dual 120mm towers just in case the Thermalrights are overpriced due to demand/customs. Cooling is a pretty solved technology so similar designs will have similar performance - if, for example, there's a Jonsbo or ID-Cooling dual tower closer to $35 it might be a better deal. There's also the Silver Soul 135 and variants to consider if the PA/PS are being pumped due to network effects.

>Nah honestly just buy the cheapest one
Consider the following however; ram clearance. From the pictures to me it seems like the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE variant has a stubbier posture and sits much lower to the motherboard.

The regular Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 though 7-8$ it may be has a higher clearance (37mm) for memory and a higher mass (1030g vs 760g for the SE) and faster fluid bearing fans (2100 RPM) versus magnetic fans (1500ish) and a24 vs 27 dba difference.

I don't see reviews mentioning this, however performance somehow seems to favor the SE more often than not which seems impossible to me yet there it is.
>>
>>103162309
Lucky we don't even get Newegg or Amazon 9800x3d here in aus
>>
>>103162391
Oh yeah for sure you need to check clearances. I just meant that the performance differences are not relevant to the types of CPUs that these will cool so there's no point agonizing over all the different variants. With the exception that the PS120(*) should be preferred if the price difference is negligible.

Well, I don't really care about RT. As for the GRE, I know it's a great card, but it's poor value in France and most of europe as it's priced way too close to the 7900 xt.

Also where I live, the 7900 xt is currently priced on par with the 4070 super custom models.

The GRE is basically the only AMD card that has gone up in price

Fuck now the 7500f sold out on ali fuck scalpers up the ass
>>
>>103162523
Yeah it could be that or it could be network effects. Happens all the time with "commodity" components. There's a lot of buzz over those coolers because they're genuinely good value in the major markets. A small Polish importer catches wind of that, gets a few in, and sells them at a high margin. Meanwhile there's dozens of, for example, ID-Cooling A620s sitting on shelves at 160zl because everyone wants the Thermalrights.
Basically what I'm saying is that these are meant to be cheap and that they're very similar to other cheap dual towers that may be cheaper because everyone in the West is focused on the TR models (which bleeds in to other markets).

It was the first few runs of the reference design cards that had the heat pipe issues, shouldn't be a problem on anything with a custom cooler.
Sapphire's Pulse is a perfectly fine lineup, but be aware that a 2 fan design on an 800-tier card will likely be quite noisy under load. If it's not a large price bump you might want to track down a triple fan design instead

i'm swedish so i wouldn't use amazon but the margins are similar here (about 25% higher cost for 15% tighter timings)

Should I try my luck with a 360mm Liquid Freezer III? How many years can we expect these AIOs to last before catastrophic failure?

I am willing to get one if it means I can keep it maintained over a decade or indefinitely. The price point next to the D15s and PS120's is very tempting for someone wanting less noise.

A LF III 360 is $105 here where I am, or double the PS120. The ability to soak up more heat during loads and summer interests me as much as keeping quiet during desktop use.
>>103163319
Partly for this reason I like air coolers because they never fail, I can always take them off or fire up an old dusty machine. Pump maintenance failures and entropy of the pipe material worries me but it is too interesting now for such a price point, even if I might be better off spending elsewhere right now or if it's overkill for my chip.

Couldn't help myself. I found a guy hocking a 9800x3D for 500 on Facebook Marketplace and grabbed it yesterday. I don't care how he got it, but it's mine now. Now I don't know what AIO to get to deal with the temps. I don't plan on building anything for a month or two, but reccs would be good. The Hyte is cute, but can it actually handle the temps from a 9800x3d?
>>
>>103163434
GeForce Telemetry is never going away. In fact they're doubling down on it. Driver install forces telemetry on you and any GDeflate game also sends telemetry to Nvidia.

nawktuahs are a scam at this point because good AIOs have gone real cheap and thermalright air coolers are also better and cost effective anyways and last just as long as your nawktuahs not to mention being four times cheap

currently using my 4 years old gpu now, all was fine until I stupidly upgraded to a uw monitor from a 1080p one this year so unfortunately my framerate number dropped.

>>
>>103163448
I don't see a point in spending more than $60 on air coolers for most chips precisely because it competes with AIO, but like fuck if people can make those last for a sizable chunk of their life (5-10 years) on their own.

This >>103163055 anon is right. Silent cases built with solid panel to separate you from noise inside. While their panels actually do their job the irony is that it causes even more noise.
Here's the logic:
1. You put your components inside a box with no holes
2. Due to poor airflow hot air mostly stays inside and doesn't get replaced with fresh air fast enough
3. Your hardware starts to heat more
4. Fans begin to work harder, trying to cool all this shit
5. The PC prodices more noise because fans spin faster and louder
While with a well ventilated case your hardware gets fresh air, stays cool, your fans chill (some might even stop spinning like certain PSUs do) and therefore your PC is nearly silent.
