Reposting this from last thread because it was right before the new one was made: >Phase Power DesignCan someone explain this to me, and what exactly I would need to be able to OC a 9800x3d to a respectable clock? I'm not looking to do crazy cutting edge shit, it would just be nice to squeeze out a noticeable performance boost 5-6 years down the road when the chip starts to show its age. All the $200-250 x870e (ASROCK at least) mobos only have a 14+2+1 phase power design. Whereas the Nova has a 20+2+1 and the Taichi Lite / Taichi have 24+2+1. That seems like a big gap to me, but I'm clueless on this stuff and google searches aren't exactly giving me definitive answers.

>>103198312I asked the same question in one of the past threads. I can't find the thread, but basically the Anon who replied said that it's mostly a marketing gimmick unless you are trying to reach very high clock speeds. Boards used to be built with terrible phase power designs, and then suddenly they started to overbuild their VRM's, as he put it, and it mostly became irrelevant for the average user since even cheap boards won't have issues. Just buy the Nova if you're a game, the layout makes more sense and I say this as someone who bought the Taichi and already regret this because the two PCIe slots will bifurcate, whereas on other designs like the Nova, you can stick something in the x4 (AFAIK) and it won't do that; so you've got an expansion slot while I don't unless I want to run at x8/x8.

>>103198675It's a literal set-it-and-forget-it product, the value of it depends on how long you plan to keep the processor.Almost retard-proof too considering it is conductive. Performance isn't the best, but you're not buying carbon sheets to maximize heat transfer.
>>103198675Their only advantage is that you never need to replace them. They offer roughly the same temp performance as slightly better than middle of the pack thermal paste, but can't touch liquid metal (don't buy this) or phase change. Honestly, if you're that lazy, undervolt your CPU, buy the best AIO you can, and throw that thing on there. The most you'll have to do is replace the AIO every 3-5 years; which you would probably do anyway depending on how frequently you rebuilt your computer.
>>103198312You shouldn't prefer the Nova over the other boards because of the power phase design. It's overkill. Just a nice to have. Even 14+2+1 are more than enough. No, you should prefer the Nova for it's quality-of-life features like the EZ release lever, the heavy backplate that stabilizes the board, the outstanding efficient thermal pads, the many M.2 slots that don't even take lanes away from the GPU. You should prefer it for its superior value literally across the board. It's worth waiting for it if you can.https://www.igorslab.de/en/asrock-phantom-gaming-x870e-nova-wifi-in-test-cheap-taichi-alternative-with-experience-report-teardown-material-testing-and-thermal-modding/

>>103198829That's a money question. If you can afford the Nova you should definitely get it. If not then you have no choice anyway. The Nova can do overclocking while remaining cool and stable easily. The only constraint is: it has no BCLK engine like Taichi. But you don't need this arcane stuff anyway, it's for hardcore overclockers only, it was en vogue for CPUs that have no unlocked multiplier.

>>103199185>Pixel response times and that gsync module might be infinitely more valuable than the HDR meme.ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH, give me some real some suggestions without breaking the bank.
>>103198955This is only true on the heaviest of loads but most of the time it's a 2 to 4 degree difference. I considered an AIO for a while but finally decided on going with air in the end since AMD is efficient anyway and the 9800x3d keeps very low temps.
>>103199209Monitor unboxed is your best bet, he measures 60 - 90 - 100 - 120 - 144 and max hz response times at various overdrive modes, so buy the cheapest that has the best results. Make sure the overshot is small as well as you do not want inverse ghosting that's noticeable.
>>103199092Have motherboards or other pc components historically gone down in price in the past few years?
>>103198675Tried it, I got better temps with my trusty old IC graphite. Then I swapped that out for a Gelid phase change pad that's not so reusable and get 5C better on average. Those Gelid pads are only like 5-7 bucks so I'll just stick with those as long as they're available. And they are kind of reusable like any thermal pad, you can lift off your CPU cooler and it'll stick there being a gelatinous square as it does.

She'd hand me a cigarette and light both of ours like in a film, and I have never even smoked before, but rolling with the theme of a dizzying couple of days of degeneracy, I'd feel obligated.Come Sunday evening, we'd both be just about over it, and anticipating the big Monday to come, meetings with PMs, TSMC engineers, press conferences. Finally, when I'm nodding off at 8pm from hunger and lethargy from the cigarettes and empty balls, she'd dress, pack up, and leave when I thought she was just out of bed using the washroom.I'd wake up Monday morning, the curtain allowing an inch of sunlight to cast on the foot of my bed. Just realized that DLSS can be tweaked with minimal effort, you can even tell it to use the maximum LOD for 1080p.You can also tweak the default 0.67 for quality to 0.75 or 0.775 for some visual improvement and still amazing performance.Doing this means you beat the TAA.
>>103199748I'm replacing my Tomahawk right not because I'm getting intermittent USB dropouts. Fixed it temporarily with a powered USB hub. I would advise spending $50 more for something else, maybe a X870E if it's available; but I'm American, so I'm not sure if the price difference is the same in the EU.
>everyone shitting and fardign themselves about the 5090 potentially being 2-2.5k USD>basically every single 4090 costs more than 2.5k currently I dunno guys. I am not saying Nvidia should be allowed to get away with these prices but maybe, just maybe, we shouldn't acting like this isn't the new normal. I am also pretty interested in seeing how their distributers like MSI, Gigabyte, Asus, and so forth try and deal with the margins. If the 5090 CE is 2.5k straight from Nvidia, there is no way that they're going to be able to squeeze people for like 3.2k. They can't possibly move enough units at that price point.

>>103199933my issue with his site is, as someone who isn't PSU literate with all the voltage mumbo jumbo, i cant actually figure out which one he is endorsing
>>103199933was initially considering pic related 750W or 850W, hoping it goes on sale. The 850W right now is only CAD$10 more so might even go for thatthe non-3.0 super flower in >>103199583 i only started considering because it was cheaper
>>103199390RX 6650 XT is exactly the same performance as 7600 but might be cheaper. You don't need 6800 but it's the next logical step if you can find it for less than $350, anything in-between is not worth it.
>>103199946just ventiliate the room anon and it'll be fine
>>103199963pic related Corsair RM750X "Shift" i mean..
>15900KYS - 500W>5090 - 600WIs it possible that this next gen gaming rig, at full load, could trip a breaker during one of the classic nvidia power excusions?
I bought into the meme. Will make money selling my 3950x.
>>103199973no i tried it's hot as fk in summer, and now it's gonna be cold as fk in winter because i dont think the wall has insulation in itthe window is also huge
>>103197890would anyone else pay money for pin-ups of mommy su
>>103199994soon we'll have to run a second power supply on a different circuit just for the GPU.
has there been any leaks for what the shrouds are gonna look like for the 50 series? if they arent different than the 40 series consider me waiting for the 60's
>>103199851> extremely fucked connector that melts your gpuWhat are you fantasizing there? It has always been retarded users not ensuring proper seating of a cheap third party plug in the socket of the GPU and bending the cables with side panels in too small sized cases. These people were not willing to wait for their PSU manufacturer to provide them adequate qt adapters like picrel from beQuiet.
>>103199775>getting intermittent USB dropoutsThat's unlucky, but I can't stay I'm too surprised because my B450 Tomahawk MAX also has USB issues. If I ever use my mouse wired moving the cable just slightly will create dropouts, same for my audio interface. >I would advise spending $50 more for something else, maybe a X870E if it's availableSadly the only X870E board I could get is the Nova and it's already 400€ here, it's just rough.>>103199955Is it really? It's white so either this or the Steel Legend would fit my build better, but I want to make sure I won't regret it in the future. From what I gather the main differences are PCI-E lanes allowances and VRM capabilities, although I imagine the latter doesn't really matter unless I were to run a 9950x3D with heavy OC.One day I should probably get into motherboard intricacies so I can figure this out myself.
>>103199996Isn't buying from Aliexpress or whatever Chinese website this is a great way to get malfunctioning parts or scammed?
>>103197890thermal pad recommendation for vram?looking to buy some from aliexpress
>>103200089No, they have buyer protection.
The fans in my case decided to reset to the rainbow puke color today, is this something that happens often for rgbfags? At least it gave me an excuse to get rid of msi center and use openrgb
>>103200157my mobo has some RGB in it, when i turn it off eventually it turns back on after some update or something. i just gave up loli hope the mobo i just bought doesnt have RGB again that i cant turn off permanently without bloatware
>>103199994you need >1800w to trip a 15a breakerdoubt unless you have other high draw shit on the same circuit
>>103199994>>103200032>>103200183At the very least, there won't be any more power strip usage. Those things start to melt at 1200w
is the NZXT C1500 worth the $350 price tag? I'm wondering if it's one of those "you buy it once and you basically never need to buy another PSU again" sort of thing
>>103199855fucked up how the 3070 was the last good consumer level card nvidia ever made
>>103200243it wasn't good because it was samshit, you could argue that 4070 super is the last good one but then it also has one big flaw, the 12vhpwr cable slapped in for no reason
>>103199996I thought about doing this but my b350 mobo probably can't handle it. I mean, the bios supports it but VRMs are a different story. And buying a b550 board to support a 5700x3d feels silly, even if it would be like 200 total for the cpu and the board
>>103200248I'm still using my 3070 since near launch and haven't had any issues with it outside of being mad now that it's only an 8GB card and that will start to show in the next couple years
>>103200232>never need to buy another PSU againPSU is prob the first thing to shit out in many pc builds imoi cheaped out before (never again) and after a few years that old pc would just shut down if my GPU power usage spiked during a gamemaybe u wont have to replace it even after 10 years but i wouldnt feel good bout it
>>103199994Flash an unlocked bios and run 800W into the gpu and you shall get thereWill they even release a 295K? 285K already seems like a paper launch just like the 10900K
>>103198549>>103198624You have to let people make poor financial decisions, because that's the only way that they can learn to be responsible with it.
>cinebench r24 maxes out my 7800x3d at 80C >steel nomad loop maxes out the hotspot at 70c with a delta of 15c1 year later and my cooling still holds up, its gamer time
>>103198607Like I said, it's a man.
>>103199221air works way better on the 9800x3d anywayaios cant cool them well since the hotspot is off-centre and concentrated on the bottom right. i've bought a am5 offset mounting kit to offset my 360 aio so that the cpu isnt overheating under 100% loads without CO
>1350w>has 2 16 pin connectors>has atx 3.1 compatability but is atx 3.0 compliant>single rail>only $270am i missing something why would you not just go for this PSU
>>103199994>>103200183In other words don't vacuum and play video games at the same time
>>103200073The Pro RS did fine with the 9950x in the hardware unboxed review, good VRM temps. I think the Steel Legend has better usb ports or something, that's about it. For just the x870 I don't think any of the boards are bad unless you need the features of the x870e.
>>103199835>>103199583Those two are fine PSUs, the new ATX 3.x standards raised the minimum requirements on transient spikes, but the high-end ATX 2.0 PSUs were already meeting or exceeding those requirements. An example is the older ATX 2.0 Corsair RMx and better models, they just changed the box packing to ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5 compliant and bundled a compatible 12VHPWR cable because the products were already overbuilt. The two Super Flower units you linked are probably in the same situation, the only downside is having to buy a separate 12VHPWR or 12V-2x6 power cable if you want one.https://store.cablemod.com/product/cablemod-basics-e-series-12vhpwr-90-degree-pci-e-cable-for-evga-g-g-p-p-t-black-16-pin-to-dual-8-pin-60cm/
>>103199962Depends on your priorities.Pick an affordable PSU in the list with the lower transient response deviation if you're planning to install a high-end video card.If you're a noise schizo, pick one with the lower(est) noise. If you're a power efficiency schizo, go with the overall best average efficiency, including low power draw scenarios. If you don't care for the specifics, open the relative performance chart and buy the best one you can afford.
>>103200555looks like it's the FSP Hydro Ti Pro 1000w thenbut how come I can't find any store listings for the 3.1 version? On their site they clearly have one, but when you go to amazon or newegg they all show the old model in the pictures, even the ones whose title explicitly state "12V-(2X6)"
>>103200569FSP isn't as well known, people who comb through PSU reviews are a subset of a subset of DIY PC builders. They're probably selling these near-cost & just managing inventory levels.
>>103200580so how can I guarantee I actually get the 3.1 version? even the model numbers are the exact same
