Was it worth the upgrade? I'm thinking of upgrading my PC and buying a new case / PSU to have two PCs.
If I remember correctly you can only have 2x140mm fans in the front when you're using the 5.25 bay drive which kinda sucks for me.
It's almost impossible finding a case that has 4x USB type A FP connectors and a 5.25 drive bay without having shit glass everywhere.

I got pic related EPS extension cables, they're 12 inches. It's kind of too long and the connectors meet with my PSU cable right where there's a cable management strap so I can't cinch it down.

Anyone tried terminating these themselves? I'm thinking I could just cut it in half and put on a new connector. Just interested what tools/parts I would need. I'm sure it's more expensive to buy tools but I don't mind, I can use it many times on more cables in the future.

Back when I built my last PC I went for the MSI B450 tomahawk max. It was a reliable mobo with everything I needed and more and many people seemed to agree that it was one of the best value options of the generation.
Is there anything similar for AM5? I haven't paid much attention to hardware in recent years, but I feel like it is time to upgrade again

Yes. Stay way from it, literally buy any other CPU form AMD.
Unless you want to use stress test software instead of using your PC for potentially weeks to months as you RMA cpu after CPU to get a non factory defective one. If you can do that, then yea the one wil silicone lottery is the best CPU until 9950x3d releases

>>
>>103207480
>do you think it'll be quieter if I build my own NAS in a noise dampened case like fractal or bequiet?
probably, but a hard drive is still a hard drive, and if you go for the larger sized ones they make a lot of noise. my synology nas does basically go to sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity though, so it's not that bad

Are RGB fans something I should avoid if I play in dark and only care about monitor contrast? Lancool 216 sells for the same price with or without leds. Can they be disabled?

>>103207476
Elaborate on why I'd need to benchmark it over and over? Thus far it seems great, doesn't have core parking issues as far as I can tell, took my blender and fusion as well as slicing times down 10 fold from my old CPU.

Yeah just don't plug in the RGB nozzle
>>
>>103207553
Yea it's amazing on paper, comes factory defective unfortunately in large numbers.
It instantly crashes with stock settings, so exactly maximum speed or slower JEDEC ram when you put it trough and avx2 or a sha3 test which are computationally intense and probably have to do something with how power is quickly distributed in the CPU.

I had to return mine, settled with 7800x3d.

>>
>>103207607
in bios you make sure the ram as it the maximum advertised supported speed with stock timings, so no oc profile and in windows you run the aida64 has a sha3 test if your cpu does not shut down in say 5 - 10 minutes then you're golden, test at 6000mhz then with timings.

the define 7 feels far more spacious without that giant ass drive cage the R5 had and the lower part of the case is infinitely better designed if you need more storage drives
you are correct about the front fans if you need that upper drive bay you are limited to 2
my new define 7 is glass garbage because the one with solid side panel was almost twice as expensive so im taking my older define 7 side panel for my new build and giving the glass panel to my dad when he gets my current setup

Is this really necessary if I don't plan to overclock or undervolt the CPU? Just curious, googling shit about sha3 I'm seeing a lot of people saying it's not a very good test as you'd almost never stress your CPU like that with gaming or rendering.
>>
I'm in a similar boat as the guy a few posts before me and could use some feedback on a build. My PC hasn't felt TOO old but I may be in a position where it will soon because Wilds felt like it ran like ASS with moderately high settings.

It's not available w/o glass side panel and a normal panel is not even available as accessory. This is a shame because I like the front design. But that's it. Why couldn't they make it more flexible? Like beQuiet do, picrel. No exhaust in the top is always less efficient as warm air naturally tends to rise. The Fractal is an aircooler only case for people who are sure they will like that glass panel even in the future (I learned that I didn't when I grew up).

I'm planning my first built PC, the idea is to use it to run 3D sculpting software (Zbrush mostly, so I need a good CPU) and play games like cyberpunk 2077, rdr2 and soul-like games at best graphic settings.
Budget is around 2000€ without monitor, this is what I came up with looking around these threads:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/VH7K8Q

Any advice on what can be optimized and/or changed for cheaper parts without loss in performance?
>>
>>103208033
4090 was Wayy outside the average gamers price range, and the 2nd best thing that cost like 1.3k€ was pathetic in its performance compared to 4090, then you got the naming scheme retardation where 4070 was named 4080, then the 4060 got 8gb vram while having like 15% of the cores of 4090

its one utter fuckup of a generation
>>
First time build, can someone take a look and give advice?

I'm in the UK. Budget is around 1200-1300. Might be willing to go to 1500 if something is considerably better. I'm just aiming for a basic 1440p. My monitor currently is a 1080p 60hz and I will be upgrading it later.

Main use will be gaming/movies/web browsing. Main game I'm interested in is Monster Hunter Wilds.

Mainly concerned with the brands. I chose inno3d because it was cheaper. Looked them up and some people say they're fine but have 1%-2% less performance than the rest. Some have also said they run hotter and louder, and their customer service is non existent but which puts me off if true. I assume waiting a week or two for black Friday would be smart as well?

Thanks in advance.

A) https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FfZVnp

>>
>>103208891
gaming on the igpu is pointless, it's always capped at 100% and your latency is 10-20ms higher than with the cheapest second hand GPU from aliexpress only from that, there's way more latency from the higher frametime

sorry meant new GPU from aliexpress, those very cheap ones pulled from laptops etc

Monitors just seem to be the most difficult thing to buy, IMO. The sheer variety between them, even from ones in the same series is staggering. It makes any purchase I've ever had with a monitor a confusing mess that just leaves me with regret. I want to get a really nice new monitor, but I also know that spending like 1.5k on a monitor is fucking retarded. And OLED sounds cool and all, but apparently most brands have a bunch of required protection systems that you can't avoid. Then it just goes on and on and on when you drag in all the other panel types to really make a mess of things.
>>
>>103208902
no, gaming on the igpu is perfect and you should game on the igpu only where ever possible. it's energy efficient, consumes much less power. BAR runs fluid 60fps 1080p, same as on a dgpu.

>>103208922
Seems like native 8 bit panels are inherently slower than 6 bit + frc, keep that in mind when choosing.

I have my doubts about the 7800x3d dropping in price even after 9800x3d launch desu. I don't have a specific budget but I don't want to overpay if I don't need to. For example, I don't think I need a 9800x3d since i'm not playing AAA shit nor do I have a top of the line gpu, only a 3070.

It doesn't really matter at the end of the day because it's not a crucial part to this specific build, but come on, man. How does shipping something that weighs like 2 ounces take 9 whole fuckin' days when I could get the same damn thing from the other guy at the same price in one day.

seriously though 450-600w is the limit of those stupid 12vhwpr plugs does that mean oc versions will need 2x12vhpwr?
>>
>>103209568
I doubt they'll go to 16 cores on the normal CCDs, on Zen6C yeah but normal CCDs will be 12 cores will full cache.
still think AMD should release Zen5+ next year

im not falling for this again

it's going to come out in a few months, then you have to wait another few months to stabilize, then another few months for a sale, then suddenly now it's wait for zen 7
>>
>>103209568
I don't want to wait for zen 6 because those prices are going to make these look like a bargain. Does 7600x3d being 6cores hurt it bad compared to the 7800x3d?

>>103209290
the 7600x3d bundle kinda sucks now, they subbed in way shittier mobo and ram. I am strongly debating just buying the CPU itself and getting the other parts separate. I still don't know if it's $130 better than the 7600x though. Efficiency doesn't mean the world to me since its not like 7600x is a hard to drive chip to begin with
>>
>>103209608
Oh, boo, no need to have a melty at being late to the party. It's not going anywhere, the cards aren't out yet and you can't afford them anyway.
>>
>>103209682
only in multi threaded workloads but I also heard it's less efficient despite having 2 cores less but not sure
>>
>>103209702
I see. It just feels kinda wrong to spend $300 on a 6 core chip since games are starting to take more advantage of 8c

See, 5xxx being expensive and scalped just in time for that retarded tariff situation to make everything even worse has me thinking I should refresh shit now and if it's not optimal oh well, at least I won't be sitting around in 2028 with a nine year old PC.

Also those cases you guys were talking about all look pretty good. I'd like to make sure the next one I get is something that actually has some longevity because I keep needing new cases when I do new builds because GPUs keep getting bigger.
>>
>>103209562
so 1000w is recommended?
>>
>>103209711
It felt wrong to me paying that for a 8 core too but I came to terms with it.
>>
>>103207720
you don't need to upgrade right now, hell maybe you can skip zen 5 / 8000xt all together. Especially if you only play those 2 games (mh will always be an unoptimized mess).

god i really hope 7700x + 7900xt is enough to play MH wilds without ever dipping under 60fps at 1440p max settings

but id have to see if the xtx is even good considering gpu chiplets are new tech

if you need a good cpu go for the 9800x3d, good luck finding a 7800x3d for 390. and maybe for 3d sculpting nvidia is better compared to amd?

>>
>>103209870
yeah i mean thats why im so hesitant, i want a high end gpu but again out of principle i dont want to be ripped off
maybe ill just save my money for when i can go all crazy on 13800x3d and 12900XT or something at the end of AM5

to be fair the 7800xt im comparing it to is also the bottom model (ASUS dual) so thats why it was only $599
>>
>>103209818
That's an idea, I never take into account that I can sell shit since I never consider buying used parts. Maybe I should pull the trigger on that build after all then.

I guess I should get moving on it then. I don't have any more real questions around my build aside from what case to get and whether there's any mobo in particular I should consider over others if I were to buy today.

>>
>>103210367
Being frank, there is also the aesthetic factor. Aircooled CPU's just look bad and always have. There was once the novelty of bigger and bigger heatsinks to look forward to, and interesting designs were discarded due to being inefficient compared to square blocks with two fans. At least with AIO's, you got some interesting customization options to choose from.

>>
>>103210548
That is honestly why I dislike them. It's part efficiency, part structural constraint (RAM clearance, 99% of cases being thin rectangles). Same with the radiators all being squares or rectangles, but there is genuinely no reason why someone couldn't make a radiator that was an entirely different shape that fit a unique case not lose out on performance, whereas air cooling will always just be a bunch of fins and copper pipes in the shape of a square because it's the most efficient shape to disperse heat. Like, Phanteks wanted to get crazy and make some sorta truly bizarre case, they could also make a radiator that would work just fine provided you could fit 120mm fans somewhere.

> seiStill! Silent Base 802
The Porsche Turbo among PC cases. Engineered in Germany. Best case on the market because design follows function. With one/two exceptions: I don't like my three 140mm front fans partly blowing against the horizontal stiffeners and the frame that is designed narrow enough to also allow 120mm fans. This requires some actual Dremel work that I have been too lazy to do until now. I also don't like the tiny hexagon holes in the grate that covers the rear fan. How is air supposed to effectively pass it? There should be a removable grill just like we had them in former times. This is another Dremel job to do. Why is everything so tiresome?
