Get DDR5-6000 CL30 for lower latency. It's not that much more $.
"Mini" "Micro" "Nano" etc is never a good idea for obvious reasons but if you think you really need it "cute" I will just let you suffer the consequences.
Consider a larger NVMe SSD unless you intend to dedicate the 1TB to OS and User Profile only and get another SSD for games, work and storage. 1TB is not much cheaper than 2TB. Other than 2TB vs 4TB.

But is this smart? Also I only have 16GB of DDR4 RAM and sinking even more money into AM4 to upgrade that seems like a mistake since it's end of line for the platform. And yes, 16GB has been becoming an issue for some things I do so the 32 being standard with DDR5 is appealing now that prices have come down

well the 5700X3D = 9600X/7700X
even if you go stupid cheap on the motherboard and ram for AM5 its still $250 over the price of a 5700X3D or $200 over a 5700X3D + a 32gb of 3600 CL18
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/GyHwPJ
so the question is, do you want to spend $200 and hold on AM4 or $400+ on AM5 for the same performance, bearing in mind that AM6 will probably be 2028.
unless you think there might be something wrong with your motherboard I would stay AM4 but that is the option.
of course you can get a better motherboard/ slightly worse cpu on AM5 for about $330 btw if you get a 7500F off Aliexpress. its the 7600 but with an IOD that has the igpu disabled.

What am I missing out on by buying the cheapest 32GB CL18 3600mhz DDR4 ram from T-Force instead of more expensive sticks with the same specs on paper? I realize the actual modules that the ram uses may not be the same... CPU is 5800x3d.
>>
>>103211429
>unless you think there might be something wrong with your motherboard I would stay AM4
It's kind of shit vrm wise and only has a single m2 slot which when populated shuts off half the sata ports. I am leaning towards just biting the bullet and going AM5 for the faster memory and newer platform for future upgrades. I could definitely go 7500F but that only shaves a tiny bit off a 7600 and having an igpu can have its uses. An extra 250 isnt going to break the bank

that's fair, the B650M HDV/M.2 will handle all of AM5 and going with the 7600 is a good pick, I personally don't really feel the need for a igpu but I don't blame people who do want one.
the silicon power ram is okay because all ram uses the same chips but, I would jump up to team group as a minimum if I'm honest just because of warranty.

Hello pcbg, I would like to build my first PC. I will also need a monitor but the rest of the peripherals I already have.

My budget for both the monitor and PC is $4-5K USD. I live in the USA.

Should I plan the build out and start ordering parts during this Black Friday sale coming up or wait until after Christmas maybe in January when the new nvidia series is supposed to release?

Which do you think it the better option to get the best deal?
>>
I'm tempted to splurge on a case that's going to last me multiple builds and I'm especially drawn to the Fractal Torrent and Lancool III from what I've looked at so far. It seems like I wouldn't have any reason to complain about airflow with either so it's coming down to other considerations.
I like how the Torrent can actually come with solid panels rather than everything being glass since I don't care about faggy RGB, and I like its overall shape and silhouette. A lot of the smaller design choices around the Lancool III give it a premium feel like those hinged panels. What do you guys think? Is there anything else I should consider alongside them?
>>
>>103211924
I'm going to buy now, personally. With a budget like that you don't really need to worry about Black Friday deals, and with tariff shit there's probably going to be a run on parts around then so you may as well get what you want while you can.
>>
how many fans can I realistically put connected to each other using only a single motherboard port?
>>
>>103211945
Fair enough, thanks anon.
>>
>>103211933
I got torrent compact with tinted glass, it's nice. Fractal makes solid cases. I fucked up though, my GPU doesn't fit without removing lower fan. So don't take Compact if you got chunky GPU.
Temp wise it's slightly better than my old R5, but I run all fans at ~600RPM and it's somehow quieter.
Easy to buld in too, and the fan hub is nice. No clue about Lancool, but from what I remember it's not that good at lower RPM.
>>
>>103211954
depends on RPM, calculate it, all fan voltage data is available
I'd use a hub with separate sata power connection though.
>>
>>103211924
CPU suit and peripherals get now, everything top tier is out and next gen is in 2 years.
But wait for next gen GPUs, the best time to buy is first month after next gen comes out to squirm out every bit of max performance in most amount of time.

so if the port is 1A and each fan is 0.3A only 3 then, thanks

>>
>>103212069
no. here is my logic: X3D is worth it only for high fps targets, which are not achievable in anything but e sports and 9700x can do that anyway.
for gaming you want moar cores and high IPC, for quicker loading, to brute force shit optimizations, quicker shader caching, less pop in etc.
it is also better for all rounder application because of slightly higher clocks.
X3D and 9700x have same IPC and multicore basics.
I wouldn't touch current intel because of e-cores, but I guess if you want to tweak something all the time it's the way to go. How the times have changed.

Dumb question about OLED
Can I use BFI (through software, not supported by the monitor) on OLED without damaging it?
I heard that OLEDs are good for it but I'm not exactly sure.
>>
>>103212599
How much of a meme is this? I'd rather not get a liquid cooler if I don't have to
>>
>>103212620
BFI via software is pointless, makes the motion feel choppy as it has to literally refresh one black frame it's not like strobing where every single frame is refreshed but during a % of it the backlight is off creating the same effect but without damaging the motion
>>
>>103212643
They say that about every CPU that doesn't include a cooler. 120W TDP I know is fine to air cool, the 170W TDP ones I would still try it and see, if it hits 90-95C during your usual workloads then water cool it. If it only does during benchmarks, don't bother, it'll throttle itself at the worst of times.
>>
>>103212669
?
It's much smoother on RetroArch and MAME than not using it. I can use it on a 360hz OLED and that shit has practically no motion blur.
Problem is if there's enough CPU usage it doesn't work all that well, and obviously you get much lower brightness.
>>
>>103212691
>?
black frame insertion
>insertion
>frame
>>
>>103212620
OLED doesn't need BFI it's already sample and hold technology.
>>
>>103212699
I'm just saying it doesn't feel choppy to me, in fact it's the opposite
>>

It's a very high refresh rate if you game at 360hz so you might indeed not feel it too much but my point is that in those 360 frames many original game frames are GONE, they do not exist anymore, their part in the feeling of motion is gone also on OLED I don't think it works too well since BFI reduces your perceived or measured brightness and I don't think you have the headroom on OLED.

It would feel very bad for movies or video games at 60-120hz range.
>>
>>103212712
BFI is a method in software or hardware to reduce the sample and hold blur :P you're confused or uneducated on this topic
>>
>>103212178
>"bottleneck"
again, it's useless if you play at 60-120fps for 98% of games. but important parts still intact without X3D.

>>103212149
they are doing some retarded shit again, how did I run this game 144fps 1440p on 7900XT and 7700x? that's why I never trust them and techpowerup, it never lines up with my experience.
>>
>>103212724
Also for your original answer, would it hurt IT? You bet, your individual organic leds have to push twice or more the brightness than they would without BFI at all times pretty much.
>>
>>103212712
sample and hold is unnatural and causes image retention
>>
>>103212728
it's irrelevant at 240hz+

>>103212736

>what about x y z
anyway you were wrong before, you realize?
Also last time I'm entertaining your random drivels:
You cannot play 90% of video games at 240hz and it's not irrelevant, otherwise pro gamers wouldn't use BFI to cope with the blurriness at 240hz even if they have the pixel response time to alleviate it a lot, maybe 500hz we're speaking of pretty similar territory
>>
>>103212763
>otherwise pro gamers wouldn't use BFI to cope with the blurriness at 240hz
pro gamers are using TN monitors, BFI works on LCD.

they set games up to be repeatable and they average the results, you might have gotten a best of 144fps but not an average.

>>
>>103212797
let's go about it this way, for the duration of 100h game I can run it at 144fps for 87h of it and at 90fps for 5-7h, the rest of the times is spent in menus. Is this testing method relevant to real life expectations for the people making purchase decisions?
I'd rather people spent less on hardware for the same experience.

>>
>>103212724
>many original game frames are GONE, they do not exist anymore
yes. replaced by a brief period of black frame (for bfi) or screen going black (strobing)
thats the whole reason why our eyes perceive it as smoother motion
>>
>>103212915
in the initial 12th gen release windows put all programs in the background on the E-cores
i don't know if they still think that's a good idea or if it's been fixed
>>
>>103212745
crt didnt work the same way. they were impulse displays aka rolling scan
where the fuck do you get your misinformation from?
>>
Why did we skip 1800p?
>>
>>103212918
it's not replaced at all for strobing, when you strobe you show every original frame but a percentage of it, say 30% is with backlight turned off so the held previous frame is not perceived by you, you just see a series of frames that are perfectly updated but with flicker now

bfi does indeed replace an entire frame in its process, it tells every pixel to turn black for a full refresh again a strobed frame is a full frame with a percentage of it being "black" due to the backlight being offline
>>
>>103212936
which results in smoother motion compared to stock sample and hold
>>
>>103212881
>>103212915
>>103212922
Windows lag is often due to outdated Windows. People don't read patch notes and realize they fixed over 1000+ graphical and performance issues with 24H2. They didn't just add a new start menu and copilot.

>>103212955
motion is the same as with sample and hold you just do not perceive the blur anymore but with BFI you perceive something new, choppy motion that's incoherent because game frames are gone and it skips around now

Buy the MSI one. It's literally the same panel. The only differences are that it doesn't come with G-Sync, and it uses a different proprietary operating system that controls the features and so forth. it's semantics but i personally consider the mobo to be the "main" part of the pc, so when you swap that it becomes a new pc

msi pricing is horrendous in eu and more than asus was on sale, and their firmware and osd is ass
at this point im just gonna cope and wait for more 1440p480hz oleds to drop and they will probably be even cheaper, im taking the high refresh cope, maybe, they weren't on sale either
I can't make up my mind

This. Even if you keep every other part the same, your motherboard treats all those other parts as new. Further, it requires you to pretty much disassemble your entire build and then reassemble it to replace the motherboard. No other part requires this or has the sort of impact/time involvement as the motherboard. If you didn't change the RAM? Well, maybe your new motherboard doesn't like that RAM and you have issues with hitting the same timings and speed. Same for the CPU. Blah, blah, blah.

Look at 5000D instead if you insist on corsair. I seem to remember 4000D having clearance issues with some of the 4000 series gpus

>>
>>103214305
I had to take out my mobo to unscrew my top fan. It has long screws that go in from the bottom. I made it an intake fan so I have positive pressure.
>>
>>103214277
idle looks alright, the 9700f and 9th gen in general are just hot cpus. intel put solder tim on that line of cpus but left the die too thick (they later fixed it on 10th gen) which made them really bad at passing heat to the cooler.

>What you can do is buy a PCIe card that adds 2 NVME m.2 slots.
Those are tricky, most have 1 m.2 m key for nvme and 1 b key (or was it a or e I forgot) for sata plus an external sata input. Basically it adds 1 nvme m.2 slot and converts one sata to m.2 sata.

There are bifurcation cards but those require a full x16 lane, and my motherboard only supports x8x4x4. So that means 3 NVME slots, and an inability to use any videocards.
There's a chink x8x4x4 adapter that gives two x4 nvme slots and a x8 PCIE low height card, but that leaves you with exactly two options for videocards which are faster than even AMD onboard graphics.

>>103214233
Yeah, I figured this was my only choice, my mobo only has two 10G USB ports (one USB-A and one USB-C). But I guess any external enclosures would still be backwards compatible with 5G USB ports.

i kept looking for fixes and found on reddit some advice that said to disable intel's turbo boost.

i did that, and now it's totally fixed. idle temperatures are lower, pc is quieter, and even when gaming the temperatures get to 70° max.

i don't know what turbo boost is, but it totally isn't worth it. my fps in game are basically the same, but the temperatures dropped -30°.
>>
dont know if this is the right place to ask but are there any good modern monitors in something like 4:3 aspect ratio
accurate color is the most important for me along with a higher resolution but thats secondary

the last few mhz take up a disproportionate amount of total power (think final 0.3ghz for 30-40% of total power) because power scales exponentially with operating voltage

thats because you're hitting the frame cap of 60
in games that are heavy or if you have unlocked fps where cpu performance is the bottleneck, you'd see a 10-30% reduction in performance from the reduced clockspeed

32"4k240hz with 480hz 1080 dualmode makes more sense if you think about it logically. When you use 480hz, you're going to be turning down your graphics quality anyway, so 1920x1080 is fine.

some online FPS games are not that heavy and can run very fast, and people generally run them at low settings to make the most of their high refresh monitor

most game engines cap somewhere around the 500 fps mark

>>
>>103214874
the negative part here is I hear the dual mode thing can be buggy and janky
and 1080p on 32" is not that good
and obviously you are losing 1440p480 which would be the potential one
and while we are at it dualmode vs non dualmode 4k now we are comparing woled vs qdoled, the newest qdoled is probably the best in terms of clarity and its glossy too plus hdr plus colors
hard choices
there are also no good sales on the dual mode ones either rn
