I have an s20 fe that's battery is going to shit, I'm debating on s24 fe or regular s24, I work outside doing labor so I feel like the superior screen glass would help but at the same time the s24fe is discounted nicely at my Best Buy atm.

Guys, is it normal for modern phones like the Poco X6 Pro to run hotter than older models?I just upgraded from a 2020 Motorola to this phone and literally without doing anything (I'm not even planning to install games), just with the screen on, there's noticeable heat both on the back and screen area. I got it no more than an hour and a half ago, and during the initial setup, it was warm the whole time until now (Not to an uncomfortable level of high temperature but I think it's exaggerated, or I don't know.). After that, all I did was open the themes app and I think it got even warmer. Right now, after being idle for about 7 minutes with the screen off, it's finally starting to feel normal, solid cold, like my shitty Motorola would while doing low power tasks.
>>103230886I make over 500k, it's not about needing that extra $21 a month but rather the thought of saving money with no effort or inconvenience

Will it start having random problems like Motorola phones? Will it have shitty battery life like Samsung phones?Just wanna align my expectations before spending a thousand dollars on it.
>>103231453Sorry, false alarm, I think. I installed the OS update it asked for, then charged the battery to 100%, let it cool down (10 min), and now it's as cool as any other phone, all the time... heh
>>103231489Uh huh.
>>103231704I have a 9 pro. It's okay. I only got it because I had busted the screen on my pixel 7. I copied my entire setup over and things work the same, so I can't complain.Since I root my phones, Google helpfully disabled all the dumb AI features for me so I'm not getting distracted.I usually have it on a charger all day long while I'm at my workstation, so for all I know the battery life could be horrendous and I wouldn't know.I'm sure it has very cool features and/or hardware, but I don't care. >>103231787I used to do that, but I've become lazy in my old age. nowadays, I'm just happy unlocking the bootloader and having magisk patch my firmware's boot partition.I still customize things here and there, like having adaway spam a giant /etc/hosts file to blackhole most ad servers, or using nova to customize my home screen.I could still run any weird root-based hack I want, like having a full debian distro running in a chroot or somesuch, should the itch come.>>103231812Ah, maybe. >>103236792I'm not arguing that SD cards aren't inferior. I'm saying the price of the expanded memory is a scam.
>>103236814Let me put forward something. Making two different models of a phone has an associated cost. What's cheaper? Only making the 256gb version of a phone and having it at a moderate introductory price point, or making the 128gb version of the same phone? You have to have two different shifts assembling those two different versions. You have to have them separately binned, packaged, marketed, etc. So does the douchecanoery of having a gimped storage version of a phone even make financial sense?
Anyone here only use a smartphone and no computer? I am curious how people, especially from developing countries, interact differently with their smartphones and life in general.
>>103236877And expounding, the lower memory version is a liability. Because it'll be cheaper. Nobody's going to upgrade from a 128gb version of a phone to the 256gb version of the same phone. That upgrade will be to a later model or a pro model. So it just doesn't make sense. Sure, you get $100 extra if they OPT to upgrade to that next tier. But what if they don't? What if they don't, nobody pays, and you end up selling off the 256gb and 512gb versions of the phones to a warehouse seller like Woot.

>>103229555How do you inbred byproducts of the absolute chaos that ravages human societies see the dystopic horror that the smartphone market has become?A OnePlus One from 10 years ago can still do 98% of what new devices can't, to say nothing of the 98% users who actually need just enough juice to like posts and gurgle down the goyslop their (((social media))) masters feed them, making a OnePlus One five times as powerful and capable as what they actually need. And yet (((companies))) insist of raping the earth and foster wars to extract more minerals and make more smartphones, thousands upon thousands of different but same models every year, increasing prices world-wide while spending more and more on (((marketing))) (may everyone working in marketing and advertising drop dead right now) in order to convince masses to buy increasingly retarded and feature-missing devices at higher prices. This is a level of waste and retardation that should be cleansed with public executions. They will sell phones large enough to be called TVs, with better optics than the human eye can perceive, with enough power to reverse entropy, enough memory to store the universe, each of them produced at the cost of a whole planet's population and resources, but no audio jack because of course you need your phone while scuba diving, and you will pawn your DNA to buy it because some fantastically produced TV spot and omni-present, intrusive, AI-based advertising will convince you need it if you want to be the cool kid who reads all the newest tweets.Holy fuck Marx was right, Teddy was right, there is no end to this horror until the nukes finally start flying and cleanse the world. Next time no America please, not if I have to make americans into compost by hand, one by one.

That, and a point-and-shoot digital thermometer to tell me when the glass had gotten to 80°C. Just one more thing: lithium batteries get less stable the more charge they carry, so you'll want to wait to heat the phone up until the current battery has run down in charge. Like, datasheets for batteries list more stringent temperature ranges as the charge level increases. This is less of a concern if you're replacing the battery outright, but it's still good practice for safety. Doing it yourself is easy; it's like adult Legos. Rarely but sometimes does happen) this is whatever Anker one we stock at work is.>The USB port on my PC, rarely. Only ever plug in for data transfer really.I thought I might prolong the phones lifespan by wireless charging, reducing wear on the USB port, but then I got the Corolla and Auto needs wired connection so the phone gets plug cycled 2x daily anyway... The battery usually stays between 20-80% but often peaks at 100. It's at 100% much much more often than it's at 5%I know you can replace USB ports but I don't and won't. I consider modern phones completely non-user-serviceable. Unless the mfr includes an obvious and easy way to get in (basically no modern phones do), taking a phone apart to replace the battery or USB port or anything else, the phone will never be the same again and you compromise any IP rating you may have had so I just do my best to make the phone last as long as I possibly can without having to take it apart.

Leaf-fag hereAnybody on Koodo atm? Is it worth waiting for their black friday deals
I just realized something. I never experienced old school smartphones properly, because I had no mobile data until like 2015, and was heavily limited with my data cap until straight up 2019, when it loosened up to like 5GB a month and I started using my phone a lot more. I've had smartphones since 2012.My old phones' batteries seemingly lasted a lot, because I barely used them! It's not like they had amazing battery life and SoT, I just only did like 1 hour SoT per day or something stupid like that. Nowadays I do at minimum 3h and that's "light usage" days, while heavy days can go up to 7 hours of SoT.Now I finally understand why my classmates back in high school years ago brought their chargers to school - they actually used their phones, because they had internet on them, and needed to top up their tiny 2000-3000mAh batteries midday.thank you for reading my blog
>>103239611That looks comfy too, but I prefer the dialer because I can choose contacts directly.
>>103247730I had internet on my phone all the way back to my first in 2011 yet never really needed to carry a charger. Hell that first phone had a 1500mah battery.Phone battery life did get a lot better over time though.
>>103247471Same. Especially with Black Friday deals coming up, suddenly a phone I didn't consider because it was too expensive is only $200 above what I want to pay instead of $500. A lot more palatable.
>>103247730Older baseband programming was also pretty garbage, I improved my LG G3's battery life by almost a third when I rooted it and set my own per-network connectivity rules.
>>103244935You can encrypt your iCloud backup where this data comes from (unlike Google Drive and Android backup which may include text messages, which could be subject to warrants.) >>103244825Depends if you like OneUI (I don't) or if you want to run custom ROMs the the 9PXL. Generally for me I prefer the software on Pixel, but the hardware is superior on the S24U. If you are considering the S24U might be worth waiting until January(?) for S25U with a far superior chip (catching up to iPhone 16 Pro's chip more or less). Pixel 10 will have a better, but not superlative SoC but won't arrive until later in the year. Even if you are set on a specific model like S24U you may get discounts once the new model is released.
