Just ordered an MSI 4070ti Super Shadow OC for $712 before tax. Putting it in my current setup will bring my total TDP to 464W so I'm wondering if my 600W platinum corsair PSU will handle it, or if it could end up frying/damaging my new shit. I do know its not ideal in terms of efficiency however.

Also, I opted to trade in(Newegg) my Powercolor red devil 6600xt in for $121. Is that good enough of a deal to follow through with sending it in once i get the new gpu in or should I just keep as a spare/throw it into my home lab?
Pic rel is my current setup with the new card. If I have to, I have a 750W gold rated semi modular atx PSU that i can fit into my case but it'll be a bit of a hassle since the cables arent as nice as my 600W, along with the fact that its a lot larger

Should be fine. For one you very rarely, if ever, run everything at full tilt simultaneously. For two, a lot of that other stuff isn't pulling from the 12V rail so it doesn't "count". Finally, PCPP's wattage calculator really overestimates some components - that U12A would need to be running both fans at 2k RPM to hit 10W.

That PSU has a modern LLC resonant topology so efficiency is nearly flat from 10-100% load.

It should run a 4070ti just fine. Worst case scenario, turn off PBO on the 5900X (it halves the ryzens power usage and temps for 10% lower clocks/performance) or undervolt the 4070.

At least for modern titles, with 1440p using DLSS with a minor tweak can upscale the 1080p native image with the same performance. (change the quality scaling from 0.67 to 0.75 for exactly 1920x1080 rendering)

The specs section for this board only says that if the third M.2 slot is in use, the second PCIE slot will be disabled. It doesn't say anything about the 1st PCIE slot being downgraded from x8, or the USB-C slots getting disabled. Am I understanding correctly the only M.2 tradeoff with the Steel Legend is not being able to use the 2nd PCIE slot? I have no idea what I'd use a 2nd PCIE slot for, and I don't think I'd ever need more than 3 M.2 slots, for a total of 10-12TB storage, so this seems like it might be the most ideal board for me. Only thing I don't like is no backplate and no 5GB Lan (although I'm not even sure I would need this desu).

Go to windows power settings, advanced, and set maximum CPU speed from 100% to 99%. This will keep everything normal but prevents the usage of turbo clocks like what PBO does. My 5600G never hits 50C this way even in games that push both the cpu and gpu to max. With PBO on it hits 70C frequently.

This way if you need that extra 10% higher clocks, you can restore it by editing the power settings again, so without needing to reboot and mess with clocks. Pretty handy.

Alternatively you can set up a fixed voltage/clock speed, but in my experience if you do that, it will fail to automatically lower clocks and park cores in idle, resulting in much larger power usage.
You can also cap the power in PBO to a lower PPT like 65W, but I haven't tried that, editing the windows power settings is just so much easier, and I don't care about minmaxing settings cause the cpu is already fast enough.

That took awhile because Ada discovered some memory instability. Think I fixed it tho with more voltage. Got to test a few nights with tm86 and tm5 etc to be sure.

Point is my case really doesn't get hot at all even with a 14900k and 4080s. I don't know total system power but my UPS was registering 705-725 watts of draw let's subtract 125 for my nas monitors and modem/router and say 575-600w is the system. Really not so bad. Especially with my case fans running at a silent 70% speed.

SSD is 4tb SN850X from Amazon but otherwise, rate/hate me. The aim of this build is that it lasts me 8-10 years for 60fps minimum maxed settings mostly on Indie/A/AA games rather than the newest unoptimized AAA titles. Nah it should work, I have the same card and resolution but intend to upgrade sometime between 2029-2031 and by then it'll still be comparable to 60 tier cards which even today are perfectly passable at 1440p with some tweaked settings. Had my gpu all comfy in its vertical mount and screwed in, plopped in the 12 pin and it wouldn't go all the way. Trying to counter the push force in both directions while it was vertically mounted caused shaking and it was pretty scary so I had to unscrew and unmount the fuken gpu just to fully push the connector in without worrying about breaking something. Is the quality control on these things bad or are they just like this by design needing 20kg of force to fully insert.

If you have to backup/restore/reinstall your OS, it will be a ton more safer and easier if it is on a separate drive. Or at least a separate partition, but a separate drive is better because you can just image/restore the whole thing. I had to do that literally a month ago. It's a fucking life saver.
If I had everything on the same drive, I could've lost weeks of actual work, this way all I lost was a bunch of entries in the browser history because all my work stuff was on another drive.

Also, keep in mind that retards just save everything in the Downloads folder, so putting that on a storage HDD will make it so their system drive will basically never fill up, and they won't ever have to buy a new machine "because this one is full".

The gigabyte board has all the functionality I want desu while also being more futureproof with pcie 5. SPDIF is a feature missing from the asus board that I do actually use daily. I'll see what they allow, it's store dependent these days, you used to be able to swap mobo and ram in the bundles but they cut down on that.

Even with a 4080+5800X3D, I don't know if I play many games that I could take advantage of that refresh rate. Best Buy usually has pretty forgiving return policies, I might just take the ultrawide home for a test drive and if I don't immediately fall in love then I'll return it and look into the options you've suggested. Windows 11 24H2 is the only answer if you have a moderately modern setup, no idea if LTSC is there yet though.

I don't think this idle thing with multi-monitors is still a thing.
If I remember right, it's just your GPU not going to the correct power state (thus keeping clocks high) to maintain video output if it thinks it'd drop out or create artifacts.

I haven't seen this happen since my 1080Ti and you can fix this with Nvidia Inspector by forcing power saving states.
The difference is like 15w of power consumption if you really care.

DDR4 ram is also cheaper than DDR5 and the difference in performance doesnt really matter for gaming
finding a decent B550 mobo should still be doable for ATX and mATX sizes, though not for long since theyre probably out of production
