>Building new computer>Now my social media is taken over with content creators spamming overpriced GPUs, CPUs and every other component >Go look at any benchmark for average cards>They're doing 60fps on max settings on 1080p/60hz which is still what 99% of people use Is this what getting old feels like. Back in my day stable 60fps and max settings was the goal, everything else was a waste of money.

>>103229832>60fps at max settingsAt 768p. Then, it eventually moved up to 1080p, and got stuck there for over a decade.
>>103229848Well its 56% 1080 and 20% 1440. But even still people don't need a godlike card even for 1440.

reposting from previous thread to get more help/input:Just ordered an MSI 4070ti Super Shadow OC for $712 before tax. Putting it in my current setup will bring my total TDP to 464W so I'm wondering if my 600W platinum corsair PSU will handle it, or if it could end up frying/damaging my new shit. I do know its not ideal in terms of efficiency however. Also, I opted to trade in(Newegg) my Powercolor red devil 6600xt in for $121. Is that good enough of a deal to follow through with sending it in once i get the new gpu in or should I just keep as a spare/throw it into my home lab?Pic rel is my current setup with the new card. If I have to, I have a 750W gold rated semi modular atx PSU that i can fit into my case but it'll be a bit of a hassle since the cables arent as nice as my 600W, along with the fact that its a lot larger
>>103229878>464W so I'm wondering if my 600WDo your other components need 136W of power
>>103229865You kind of do need a top tier card for 1440p max. Especially with RT. On the other hand max settings, RT excluded, are pretty pointless nowadays due to diminishing returns - hard to notice 4k textures at max draw distance. Things change.
>>103229878>I have a 750W gold rated semi modular atx PSU that i can fit into my casedo italso what the fuck is that msi nvme?
>>103229845If you don't desperately want a new PC right now you should wait.
>>103229878>I'm wondering if my 600W platinum corsair PSU will handle itShould be fine. For one you very rarely, if ever, run everything at full tilt simultaneously. For two, a lot of that other stuff isn't pulling from the 12V rail so it doesn't "count". Finally, PCPP's wattage calculator really overestimates some components - that U12A would need to be running both fans at 2k RPM to hit 10W.>I do know its not ideal in terms of efficiency however. That PSU has a modern LLC resonant topology so efficiency is nearly flat from 10-100% load.
>>103229878The platinum Corsair is one of the highest tier PSUs, it would most likely vastly outperform a semi modular 750w PSU (no high tier 750W is semi modular). It should run a 4070ti just fine. Worst case scenario, turn off PBO on the 5900X (it halves the ryzens power usage and temps for 10% lower clocks/performance) or undervolt the 4070.
>>103229878ITX is stupid expensive, if you go for matx instead you can get motherboards for half the price. You can still find decent cases which don't take much desktop space, Jonsbo makes a lot of creative small form factor cases for example.
>>103229878600w seems a little light for a 4070ti. Hell I have a 3080ti and a 13700k, and I'm often wondering if the EVGA 850 GQ, 80+ GOLD 850W from nine years ago (fuck me, where does the time go?) might be less than perfectly adequate.

The specs section for this board only says that if the third M.2 slot is in use, the second PCIE slot will be disabled. It doesn't say anything about the 1st PCIE slot being downgraded from x8, or the USB-C slots getting disabled. Am I understanding correctly the only M.2 tradeoff with the Steel Legend is not being able to use the 2nd PCIE slot? I have no idea what I'd use a 2nd PCIE slot for, and I don't think I'd ever need more than 3 M.2 slots, for a total of 10-12TB storage, so this seems like it might be the most ideal board for me. Only thing I don't like is no backplate and no 5GB Lan (although I'm not even sure I would need this desu).
>>103230170>Would you recommend that I mess with undervolting the CPU in bios? I've see vids on how to do it and it seems fairly simple albeit a bit time consuming with seeing if certain voltages are stable.Go to windows power settings, advanced, and set maximum CPU speed from 100% to 99%. This will keep everything normal but prevents the usage of turbo clocks like what PBO does. My 5600G never hits 50C this way even in games that push both the cpu and gpu to max. With PBO on it hits 70C frequently. This way if you need that extra 10% higher clocks, you can restore it by editing the power settings again, so without needing to reboot and mess with clocks. Pretty handy.Alternatively you can set up a fixed voltage/clock speed, but in my experience if you do that, it will fail to automatically lower clocks and park cores in idle, resulting in much larger power usage. You can also cap the power in PBO to a lower PPT like 65W, but I haven't tried that, editing the windows power settings is just so much easier, and I don't care about minmaxing settings cause the cpu is already fast enough.
>>103230159That advise probably dates back to when HDDs were the only solution you had for storage. Back in the days when a system could be good, but still take 20+ minutes to truly fully boot up. After that came the old wives tale of SSDs suddenly becoming slow (still faster than HDDs) if you actually use the storage space provided.
>>103230272>>103230170There's PBO2 Tuner windows application that lets you set temperature, power and/or frequency limits while still keeping dynamic clock and parking.Has to be reapplied on every reboot and wakeup though, can use windows task scheduler to do so.
>>103229894>You kind of do need a top tier card for 1440p max.LARGELY depends on what you play. If it's esports slop or anything that's not AAA you can do 1440p high refresh rate with even a mid tier card. RT is a meme though, i'm not counting that
>>103230159That advice is from the era of 240GB SSDs costing over $100. I would know, I'm still on one of those for my OS drive but that''s going away with my new build and being replaced with a 2TB nvme
That took awhile because Ada discovered some memory instability. Think I fixed it tho with more voltage. Got to test a few nights with tm86 and tm5 etc to be sure.Point is my case really doesn't get hot at all even with a 14900k and 4080s. I don't know total system power but my UPS was registering 705-725 watts of draw let's subtract 125 for my nas monitors and modem/router and say 575-600w is the system. Really not so bad. Especially with my case fans running at a silent 70% speed. The anon probably went to bed. Oh well.

>>103230577Raytracing is widespread it just runs like ass so most people turn it off. There's a cult following of people who will sit there and upscale from 480p and use fake ai stable diffusion sloppa frames and strobing to imitate higher fps but in the end you still get much less fps than running native without rt.It pisses me off because there's so much clickbait about how "OMG 1000 dollar gpu can't even get 60 fps in cyberpunk a 4 year old game at 1080p????? What is Nvidia doing!!!!!" With people in comments all drooling and nodding to each other about how Nvidia are scammers or how game devs aren't optimizing anything at all but it's literally all because of niggertracing. Turn it off and fps goes up by 4-5x minimum sometimes a fucking order of magnitude and you don't need all these stupid ass frame gen and upfailing features.

>>103230552>serious question, what happens if i end up playing indie games 99% of the time with a 7900XTXNothing. Your computer draws as much power as it needs. Cap your frame rate and its fine.

Also fuck the 12 pin niggervidia uses. Just had my first run in with the bloody benchod today. Had my gpu all comfy in its vertical mount and screwed in, plopped in the 12 pin and it wouldn't go all the way. Trying to counter the push force in both directions while it was vertically mounted caused shaking and it was pretty scary so I had to unscrew and unmount the fuken gpu just to fully push the connector in without worrying about breaking something. Is the quality control on these things bad or are they just like this by design needing 20kg of force to fully insert.
>>103230159>>103230186>>103230193>>103230282>>103230451If you have to backup/restore/reinstall your OS, it will be a ton more safer and easier if it is on a separate drive. It's a fucking life saver. If I had everything on the same drive, I could've lost weeks of actual work, this way all I lost was a bunch of entries in the browser history because all my work stuff was on another drive. Also, keep in mind that retards just save everything in the Downloads folder, so putting that on a storage HDD will make it so their system drive will basically never fill up, and they won't ever have to buy a new machine "because this one is full".

>>103230977What this guy said, and if you're a Euro, you're already paying tariffs anyway. So you'll just get double fucked. As for buying a GPU right now though? That's retarded. The 40xx series hasn't gone down in pricing, in fact, it's gone up. And even though Trump is going to get into office at almost the exact time CES happens, the tariffs won't go into effect for at least six months while they figure out what to tariff and what rate and whether or not certain shit gets exemptions and so on. It's going to take time. That doesn't mean there is a grace period though. We've already seen the articles about Zotac, so expect to see more FOMO over the next few months. Combined with panic buying, the FE cards may be the only ones on the market before the rollout of the tariffs which will allow these cock sucker partners (who will probably have been hoarding cards the entire time) to price at tariff rates without having paid any import taxes on top of the already insane margins they attach over the MSRP. It's going to be bloody. All I will suggest is that you either get a reference 5090 or 5080, or at least hope you can without it being scalped or purchase a high end 40xx card from someone who is trying to sell theirs at the start of next year to prepare for the 5000 series. That's the Goldilocks Zone for pricing, and I hope to god none of you miss it.

>>103232612What is your budget? What PSU do you have? Are you planning on upgrading your psu?
>>103231358The RAM isn't great, and neither are most of the bundles. They were better before they swapped out the good components
Where the fuck were these mobo+RAM bundles when I was built my PC years ago? did I forget to take advantage of them or something?I'm almost done getting all the parts for my deal, basically getting the mobo+32GB RAM for paying $50 extra over the CPU price, the MOBO had proper integrated IO + VRM heatsinks, and the RAM was actually 6000cl30 tooJust need to get a 5-pack of P12 MAX (these are really cheap too, only CAD$55 for 5 fans which are pretty much neck to neck with overpriced phantek/noctua etc)
>>103232567Lol, recommending the newer, more expensive option technically still counts as talking me out of the one I posted. Are you talking about the AW3225QF? I'm not sure I'm ready to make the jump to 4K, mostly just wanted to see what the OLED and ultrawide hype was about and $650 seemed like a decent entry point for a model that got decent enough reviews.
:) :) :) :) :) :)
>>103232642Still cheaper than buying components separately but yeah the ram is a major let down and absolutely something to upgrade if possible.
>>103232647you decide what you want in the end of the day
>>103232661Grats anon, what monitor are you pairing it with?
>>103232679right now i only have a couple viewsonic 1440p 144hz monitorswant to get a 4K OLED monitor/TV soon, really leaning towards just getting a ~45" LG C3/C4 whenever there's a good saleI understand it won't be a good idea to do multi-monitor set up with different resolution/hz. I'll keep the monitors on the side since they're nice for multi-tasking/ADHD but i'll have them plugged in my laptop instead of the gaming desktop.sounds stupid but my work had me realize how much nicer having a 2nd monitor is
>>103232702>I understand it won't be a good idea to do multi-monitor set up with different resolution/hz.Why? I use a 1440p 240hz and 4k 60 scaled to 1440p. Why would they not work?
>>103232456Not until CES 2025Weaker than the 7900XT
>>103232716>Weaker than the 7900XTGod no. WTF AMD? YOu are AMDed to me. 4080s is looking mighty juicy.
>>103232647NTA but I'd highly suggest ditching ultrawides, especially OLEDs.It's the easiest type of monitors to burn-in because of how you deal with black bars and windows, on top of being a sub-par OLED panel by today's standards. For the same price you should get a 240hz/360hz 1440p QD-OLED, it's a far better option.
>>103232715i took some anon's word for it about vsync, it works but your GPU idles hotter apparently (i guess i could just turn off the OLED TV if im not gaming/watching)ill test it myself when it comes to ihow does your GPU idle temps compare between having 1 monitor vs 2 different monitors?
>>103232715Size probably, imagine how big a 42" TV is on a desk compared to regular monitors. Hard to pair with anything without taking up space or it looking dumb.
For a new build should i be going w10 LTSC or w11 LTSC at this point? Probably w11 LTSC for newer CPU optimizations right?
>>103232441>gigabyteyou get what you fucking deserve
>>103232738thats a good point i didnt think of that either
>>103232672>>103232722Even with a 4080+5800X3D, I don't know if I play many games that I could take advantage of that refresh rate. Best Buy usually has pretty forgiving return policies, I might just take the ultrawide home for a test drive and if I don't immediately fall in love then I'll return it and look into the options you've suggested. I don't plan on upgrading any of my other hardware for a while, my display is the only part showing a little age right now being IPS.
>>103232266what did they do to the 870 series?
>>103232738Yeah, size is a reason.>>103232736I don't have a gpu yet. I'm torn between 7900xtx and 4080s. I want it for some AI workloads, but I'd like AMD. Apparently it idles higher with multi monitor, you can use one monitor from igpu to fix this. Temps should not be an issue, stock it consumes 300w? That is not crazy so temps should be fine.
>>103232747Windows 11 24H2 is the only answer if you have a moderately modern setup, no idea if LTSC is there yet though. It runs better than Win10 and also has very great features for latency and stuff (universal dxgi flip mode, "Game Mode" enabling better scheduling, CPU optimizations, HDR, ACM and the list goes on).
>>103232441What PSU?
>>103232736If you care about idle temps for some asinine reason turn off zero rpm fan mode
>>103232716>Weaker than the 7900XTthere's no reason to think the 8800XT would be weaker than the 7900XT350mm2 of N4, 50mm2 larger than AD104 and 30mm2 smaller than AD103
>>103232787Damn alright. I know the LTSC just dropped this year but I don't think its 24H2. I assume I just want pro or is there a different version I should install?

>>103232804No downsides to doing so? I've used w10 pro for years on my existing build
>>10323278724h2 is a bugfest. why are you recommending it here lol
>>103232780I don't think this idle thing with multi-monitors is still a thing. If I remember right, it's just your GPU not going to the correct power state (thus keeping clocks high) to maintain video output if it thinks it'd drop out or create artifacts.I haven't seen this happen since my 1080Ti and you can fix this with Nvidia Inspector by forcing power saving states. The difference is like 15w of power consumption if you really care.
>>103232864>bugfestI haven't heard of truly relevant and widespread ones but please indulge me.Anyways it's not like there are better options for now, all newer Windows versions are fucked in some way.

>>103233045No in my country there aren't any bundles
>>103233066aliexpress then? ive never bothered with it but apparently people are just buying 5700X3D for like $100-$150DDR4 ram is also cheaper than DDR5 and the difference in performance doesnt really matter for gamingfinding a decent B550 mobo should still be doable for ATX and mATX sizes, though not for long since theyre probably out of productionyou wont be able to upgrade the CPU anymore since it's AM4 but you can prob hold off on upgrading with a 5700X3D until AM6 comes out anyways
>>103232874I think the power state issue is still there in 7900xtx atleast on loonix.

I have a i7-6700k and a GTX 1080, which should I upgrade first? Considering waiting for the 50 series to come up before upgrading the GPU. Of course would be upgrading my mobo and RAM as well whenever I upgrade the CPU which is partially why I've been holding it off.
>>103233367I could go over, but I'm trying not to convince myself to just scrap the build, and get a pre-assembled mini-PC. This is going for minimum desk space so I can shove it in what is effectively a study room. That's why I'm not including a gfx card.

>>103233625>my cpu was like 70% off or somethin so i figured gpus were around the sameBF/CM were a lot better 10 years ago. Nowadays with widespread price comparison, spot deals, and JIT logistics there's simply not as much margin left. Especially for current-gen products where the retailer has less incentive to sell through before Christmas. You might find good deals on last-gen components if the stars align vis. release dates but it seems the next gen cards will be released early next year - there won't be much RTX40/RX7000 stock to shift by November '25. Nvidia reportedly ceased production of their top end SKUs this month. To sum up, by all means wait for a new card if you're happy with your 1080. Don't worry about it dying in 6 months instead of a year because CM won't offer a huge discount. If you think tariffs will massively increase the price then buy now because next gen midrange won't be out until mid 2025.

The RTX 2060 from 2019 technically has RT hardware but struggles to hit 20FPS in modern RT games.Right now I'd say the 4070 is the minimum for "true" RT i.e. not the super minimal patched on stuff you get in eg. Elden Ring. As always though it does depend on the game and the implementation. Just don't expect a 4060Ti to get smooth 60 in native path traced titles.
