There has to be a better/faster way to be notified of deliveries. It's insane how long it takes. I had a package dropped off at 4:14, and was signed up for text alerts from UPS. I didn't get the alert until 4:32. And I just now received the email alert from the merchant. The only reason I know the exact time is because that's what it says on the delivery, and I happened to answer the door when the guy dropped it off.

I haaaaate the idea of my several hundred/potentially a few thousand dollar packages just sitting outside for even a few minutes these days. I am considering renting a PO Box specifically for the 5090 when it drops in January.

>>
>>103240778
find out how hot your GPU gets during cyberslop or ue5. then test how low you can go with the max fan speed at that temperature before it starts rising even more. from there you adjust the max fan speed up to a noise level you can live with. my GPU stays well below 75 on about 60% fan speed which is pretty quiet.
obviously make sure your GPU gets the airflow it needs. bottom intakes work wonders if they have enough pressure and breathing room.

Google 'AM5 Motherboard Spreadsheet'. Open the document, click on the X870E tab and compare the lane-sharing, bifurcation, and other notes sections between the two. I can't link it here because 4chan thinks it's spam, but it should become extremely obvious once you look at the Nova's notes and then look at the Carbon's notes.

splurge a bit more on gpu, the build should usually be more lopsided towards gpu nowadays
with that gpu you will never hit 180hz anyways, so either downscale with monitor and go higher on gpu or find some more money to pour into gpu
stick with amd of course, and keep in mind new gpus are coming so think about your time horizon and how that's going to affect the prices

Everything looks fine for the most part imo. The only hangup is probably the RX 7600XT, since the performance increase over the regular RX 7600 is not worth the price increase. The only thing the XT has going for it is the increased amount of VRAM.

That build should be at least competent at 1440p, but I agree with >>103240929 , if you can spend a bit more on the GPU.

Current build is an RTX 2080 + i5 9600k + 16GB RAM from very early 2019. Is pic related alright? I'm now on neetbux for a few months so I'd like to squeeze in an upgrade. I already have the OS, storage, peripherals, case (forgot to remove it so ignore the cost it adds), and some aftermarket fans. I'm gonna rip my current build out and put it in an old case to give to a friend (or sell for very cheap) so he can put his own storage and OS in later.

How big of a jump will I get going from a Ryzen 3600 to a 5700x3D at 1440p? I'm thinking of just upping my ram to 32GB and dropping in a 5700x3D and riding out AM4 for another 5 years.

Are there any recommended 1440p monitors that are better than, say, the aoc q27g3xmn, but still come in below $500? It seems like they all have huge drawbacks in that price range until you get into OLEDs at around $600 or so

They absolutely would not budge on substituting parts in the bundles. Said corporate got on their ass about it a month ago and they no longer can. In fact it's so rigid, if they're out of one of the parts for one of the bundles they can't sell the bundle until said part comes back in

There are some quirky shit like some ASRock boards not playing nice with a few Corsair SSDs.
The cause of some of these issues were the drive being in MBR format when Windows installation need them to be in GPT format.
Then there's some other strange shit below.

to guy last thread:
thanks again for responding. i think i will steer clear of mac simply because of the compatibility issues with a lot of games, plus i know how windows works already. like i implied, battery wouldnt be a *huge* factor because i will likely be in a situation to at least charge it in use. that is very interesting to know that you can simply turn off the gpu to save battery; is that easy to do? also, i actually do have a steam deck... but the model i have doesn't have wifi 6 compatibility for some reason, so unless i have the chance to use hotel wifi or a wifi 5 network (i've looked at the places i frequent, no dice), i can't really download more games onto it. very disappointed in valve.
overall though, i would say i just want the uses of a desktop (gaming, browsing, media storage) in a mobile format, and i want to have it all in one device; im willing to suffer non-maximal gaming performance and lesser quality than a thousand dollar monitor for the sake of it being mobile. so, i decided i would probably like a laptop. it would game better than my phone/deck, it would be less of a headache to organize media than an android tablet, and have the QoL (wireless mouse, usb slots for external storage, desktop websites, actually good size screen, easy to mod games) that those other devices lack.
browsing amazon, ive found an hp victus 15.6 gaming laptop with just a 3050, which sounds fine enough for the games i would play on it. what do you think? is hp a good brand these days?

Wondering if someone can help a retard out. I bought a PSU off Newegg and it came with "Super Flower MEGACOOL 140mm fan, Triple-Pack, 12-pole motor" model: SF-PF141-BK_3P.

It comes with a remote control to control the fans, but I have no idea how this is supposed to work. Each fan obviously has their own fan cable, and then an extension, and they threw in a SATA cable with a female connection. I want to use these for the top of my case because apparently they're very good and I got them free, so bonus, but I don't know how to control them. Let alone how I am supposed to daisy chain all of them together. The box came with no instructions aside from a note that the SATA connector needed to be used if I was using more than one of these fans together but as I mentioned I've got no idea how to daisy chain them since the cables that came with them don't allow for it.

If you're building something in the middle of the pack? Yeah, basically. Mainly because at that price point all of the stuff will work without a fuss. There is basically a bell curve. If you are buying very cheap, you are likely buying what you have to and that can mean you are buying substandard parts with bad QC, or has more quirks about what works with what and is poorly documented if at all. Meanwhile on the other end, if you are building something very high end with all of the newest parts and using some niche stuff and you're pushing performance then you are also likely to run into QC issues due to these being new batch products, there being undocumented or unknown conflicts, a lack of software updates, critical flaws that were overlooked, etc.

Is it a good price for an AM5 prebuilt that I can upgrade? All I'm really thinking about upgrading are the cooler and the ram, for which i'd have to spend roughly another 130 euros, 140 usd.

Aren't most phones on ~100 nits all day long as they auto set their brightness?
Also I doubt that the average phone user sits at least 6 hours per day on the phone with 200 nits+ brightness without ever closing the screen once.

So on average that would explain why phone users don't get burnins but on average tv and monitor users get them.

Of course. Everything your computer does effects 1%s. Fan control software, all those services for rgb you run, programs that poll for updoots, everything.
>>
>>103244305
Please post benchmarks of this having any relevant, not within margin of error, impact on performance.
If you were to overload your GPU with multiple 4k monitors trying to run DSC then maybe I guess (though it'd prolly just drop out video), but I highly doubt it has any impact whatsoever otherwise.

Also would need to be tested with DXGI flip models and MPO to confirm Windows isn't doing something fucky with DWM in dual monitor setups.
>>
>>103244491
You ought to check reviews for both drives. In theory on-board DRAM should have lower latency but the 970 is old now so a modern HMB drive might well beat it by dint of incremental optimizations. In any case I'd expect the difference to be super marginal and not worth worrying about.
Indeed, in your position I'd allocate them by capacity - use the smaller drive, presumably the 970, for Windows and the larger one as a game drive. Makes reinstalling easier since games are generally tedious to reinstall. That is assuming the 970 still has a good chunk of life left in it - if the NAND is worn you should use it as the game drive since it won't be written as hard in that role.
>>
>>103244503

Doesn't really matter. Get the cheaper one. If they're the same price, Team is better known so maybe more likely to honour warranty. Maybe.
If it's DDR5 you're presumably buying a guaranteed Hynix A/M bin (i.e. ≥6GT/s @ ≤10ns 1st word). PCBs are standardized and you're not pushing crazy voltage so the heatspreader just needs to "exist".
If it's DDR4 then you're presumably buying mystery meat 3200C16 stuff.
The exception is if you want to manually OC it. In that case look for a teardown to make sure the heatspreader is properly attached. Again with price equality I'd favour Team.

The MSI site says it has addressable RGB lights but none of the vendors I am looking to buy it from say it has any sort of RGB connectivity. As far as I can see there aren't multiple versions of this specific DDR4 board, but who am I to trust here?
I was going to trust MSI since there is no version of it I can see with no ARGB but I find it weird how everyone I am looking at seems to exclude them.

The other board I am looking at is basically at the same price but just with no argb and less connectivity. I think it has slightly better VRMs but I am using a 12100f so it doesn't matter.
And I already have argb because my case included it, otherwise I wouldn't go out of my way for it. But since it's there, I may as well.

I'm really wondering whether I should shell out 150€ for the X870E Nova instead of the cheaper X870 (Pro RS, SL or Tomahawk).

>more NVME slots with better lane management
Doubt I'll ever use more than 3x NVMEs, and I could just plug additional ones into a USB3-4 enclosure later if needed.
>better VRMs
Future proofing for Zen 6 maybe? I have no plans on using a dual CCD chip but in a few years from now it could mean a possible upgrade to some 11950x3D for platform longetivity.
Not sure how much VRMs matter so it might be same-ish for all mobos.
>clear CMOS button
Absolute godsend, but I usually just plug the reset button from my case to the CMOS jumper or repurpose Sanwas to it.
>more USB3
Good, also makes me steer at least towards the Steel Legend or Nova.
Pro RS doesn't have the "Asrock Lightning Gaming" ports, which sound gimmicky but could prove useful for 8000hz mice/keyboards if I understand correctly. I assume it reserves 2 individual XHCI controllers (hopefully from CPU and not chipset) for 2 dedicated ports?
>WiFi, ethernet
Internet maxes out at 2.5Gbps in my country currently, in the future it would likely go straight to 10Gbps in which case I'd get a dedicated card with SFP.

Kind of a blogpost but I'm curious to hear some more opinions, especially if I'm missing something.

>>103245104
You don't need pbo on 7800x3d, especially since all it does is shoving more voltage to try get higher clocks, but due to cache being placed on the die it heats up too fast and it cannot dissipate the heat so it has to downclock soon after.
Instead of pbo, use curve optimizer and put a negative all core value of 20 or higher to have better sustained clocks.

EH. Don't you have anything better to spend your money on? I have an OLED, but I switched from a 34" 2560x1080(!) 144hz monitor, and it was a fuckhuge improvement, but your current monitor isn't that bad. I'm not saying you shouldn't go for it, but buying an OLED is pretty much a luxury thing.
>>
>>103245308
>I live right next to a substation
ah yeah that'll do it. A UPS would certainly be the best thing to put out precisely 220V from 250V.
otherwise you would have to find a 10:11 transformer or something.

Is it worth getting a 1440p monitor if I mainly watch yt and browse? I got a new pc this summer but had to use some trash decade old 27'' 1080p monitor and it looks and feels terrible for my eyes. Initially I wanted to go back to a 24'' 1080p one (which I used in the past and was fine) but I do kinda like the larger screen size, I just dont know if its really worth if i dont play that much videogames.
>>
>>103245219
My 7800X3D barely breaks 80-82c on cinebench and I cool it with a Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE.

you probably have poor contact/didnt use enough paste/both. remount the cooler
>>
>>103245272
Most good PSUs are rated for 100-240V so 250 should be within the safety margin but you really don't want to eat those margins as a matter of course. You could try finding some sort of "ruggedized" model with >250V input capability but frankly that sounds more expensive than a UPS. With that said do make sure the UPS can actually reduce the output voltage - overvoltage is not what they're "normally" built to prevent. Also, like the other anon said, you maybe want to get this fixed at the utility level. Should end up saving money in the long run provided a simple solution is available - if it's been decades since the last visit something might have come on to the market since.
>>
Holy shit, turning off PBO and using curve optimizer dropped my max temp to 79 and under 100% load it's at 70 max. Way cooler. My coreclock is also reaching 4.99 Ghz, before it was topping out at 4.8.
>>
>>103245353
Yes, the difference is huge between 1440p and 1080p, but you might wanna consider 4k at this point. If you don't game you can easily run 4k on desktop, but you also have to set some scaling, as on 100% everything is very small.
>>
>>103245370
make sure it's stable. I had a -30 working for 5 mins before it crashed, -25 crashed too, and so did -20 but it took longer
>>
>>103245370
You can also set a power limit, so the temps may go down even lower.
>>
>>103245370
That's great but make sure to run a stress test with variable loads (I like OCCT) for a few hours, undervolting tends to cause crashes particularly when switching to a low power state.
>>
>>103245385
What did you run to test it
>>
>>103245353
In that case I'd be thinking 4k. 1440p has benefits for browsing - more real estate - but it's a compromise resolution that lets you get good gaming FPS without spending $3k on the PC.
Since you're not gaming you could easily drive 4k on an IGP and get both more real estate and integer 1080p scaling. Do bear in mind that you may need to move some stuff around to fit a properly sized 4k panel - the 27-32" ones have a pixel density (generally) too high for native scaling.
>>
>>103245370

Whats the difference between QHD and WQHD? Im currently looking at a 27 inch monitor and in the title it says its WQHD while on the pictures along other information like IPS, hz etc iz says QHD. Some googling says WQHD is for a wider screen but from what Im seeing its just a standart 27 inch screen im looking at so not extra wider or anything.

2560x1440p is both QHD and WQHD, don't pay attention to this.
we used to differentiate widescreen monitors (16/9) from normal monitors (16/10) back then and 16/9 1440p monitors were rare

Since the 9800x3d is supposedly an oc beast, does it make sense buying a high end x870 board with really good VRMs?
I have never overclocked before so I don't know how much they matter.
>>
>>103245619
>does it make sense buying a high end x870 board
They're mostly for I/O, if you're just looking for OC performance all X870 boards are more than adequate for the 9800x3D. Supposedly some handle 8000mt RAM better but it's still mostly luck-based.
If you can afford something like the X870E Nova then go for it, but the X870 Pro RS is perfectly fine too. Don't get a B650 unless there's a huge price gap, Steel Legend is fine for a 9800x3D too though.

any 2x16gb and 2x32gb kit with 6000cl30-36-36 timings are 16gbit A-die that's currently the best as it has the tightest timings
2x24gb and 2x48gb kits that are 6000cl30 are 24gbit M-die which clock higher (useless on ryzen) and have slightly looser timings

A wired Realforce is unironically the final boss of keyboard durability, both in theory and in practice. The capacitive switches do not require physical contact to trigger a keypress and they simply do not fail.

For mice, optical switches generally solve the usual problems but most mice with optical switches still have other points of failure. For example since Razer switched to optical switches for the main buttons it has become a common complaint that the mousewheel or side buttons fail early. Honestly you're probably better off forgetting about mouse durability and if cost is an issue then opt for cheaper chinkshit brands instead to save on each purchase.
