a-at least I'm not p-p-poor...
I wish there were objective commentaries about radeon versus nvidia gpus.
Im going insane my ram and mobo haven't left china its been over 2wks and i already have my 9800x3d ree
>>103265715Opa recommendation 265k is a joke its the worst cpu intel have put out more than my rustoliumn intel 136k
>>103265715Unfortunately the current feature difference (RT, DLSS) requires a subjective assessment. Is RT worth the FPS penalty? Is the performance gain and AA from DLSS worth the artefacts? Can't decide that for you, sorry. The closest thing to an objective take I've been able to come up with is: below the 4070 you can't afford RT so prefer Radeon*. Above that you probably want max graphics, else you wouldn't be buying such an expensive card, so prefer Geforce. The intersection point - 7800XT/4070/7900GRE/4070S - is murky and almost entirely subjective.*Unless you really prefer DLSS over lowering settings.
Thoughts on the Lexar NM790?Are SSDs without dram worth considering?
>>103265795It's fine. SSDs are all about the specs vs. price. The NM790 is frequently among the cheapest high-layer TLC HMB drives so it's often a good buy for a standard no-frills gaming rig.>Are SSDs without dram worth considering? Most "DRAMless" NVMe drives have HMB now - they use your system memory for FTL caching. It's only marginally slower than onboard DRAM and not really noticeable in casual (gaming/office/web) use.DRAMless SATA drives, on the other hand, cannot use HMB so should only be considered for bulk storage or ultra low budget rigs.
If the memory I bought is unstable what should I return and get instead? Slower ram?

I want to upgrade from 16GB to 32GB RAM on my B450 Mortar MAX board for 5700X3D.I thought about 3600mhz/cl16 but I checked the mobo specs and what's up with the weird memory support?>Supports 1866/ 2133/ 2400/ 2667Mhz (by JEDEC)>For AMD Ryzen Gen3 (R5/R7/R9)>Supports 2667/ 2800/ 2933/ 3000/ 3066/ 3200/ 3466/ 3733/ 3866/ 4000/ 4133 MHz (by A-XMP OC MODE)No 3600mhz but there's 3733, 3866 etc?Should I even bother with 3600mhz for 5700X3D or 3200Mhz/CL16 like OP says is fine and I should focus on getting dual-rank sticks instead (those seem to be easier to find in 3200 in my area). This is just for games, not for pushing AIDA numbers and whatever artificial tests.

What percentage of the total cost of the PC (without periferals) should the graphics card be?

Just when I think I'm about to hit the purchase button I read some shit review about the GPU and get apprehensive about it>this ASUS TUF GPU seems to be well liked, but it costs $60 extra and their customer support is non-existent according to some posts>this MSI GPU is on sale and has good reviews, but it's cheaper because the parts are of lower quality and might end up noisy/whiny>this other MSI GPU is supposed to be the cream of the crop, but MSI is also kinda dodgy about customer service apparently>this Gigabyte GPU seems like a good deal, but the card is of average build quality and they also have questionable customer serviceSomeone please tell me about Zotac. Are they any good? They seem to have more positive reviews, but at the same time they have much fewer reviews so what I see is only the positives.Alternatively, tell me that none of this matters and to just buy a card.I'm leaning towards the MSI Gaming RTX 4070 Ti Super 16G Gaming X Slim or the Asus TUF GAMING OC 4070 Ti super

Is 1440p worth it if i dont play vidya at all just browse and watch shit? I kinda wanna get a 27 monitor just bc for my eyes the bigger screen seems better but ive read 1080p on there looks atrocious

Higher end hotter CPUs are going to be better for you because again you can just undervolt them when you don't need them to run hot.if your primary use is gaming I'd do an X3D chip instead but for productivity the X chips are better.

>>103268080"future CPU support" depends on AMD not on the mobo manufacturer, they're on the AM5 socket right now, their previous socket AM4 started in 2016 and AM5 came out in 2022. We have no idea when AMD will make another new socket but generally 6 years is about how long they last, but getting a 9800X3D means you're on the latest socket so that's the literal best you can do.Gen 5 NVMe and USB4 are not really common now but they will be in the future so it will be nice to have.Like the other anon said you should go ASrock, brand matters for mobos more than features generally because of the software that comes paired. I got an ASUS mobo bundled in with my cpu and i kind of regret it because every optional BIOS feature just makes performance worse and their ArmouryCrate software is god awful bloatware that you have to uninstall immediately.>>103268154no it will still perform much better than a 9700x, obviously the performance will be lower than not undervolted though.

can somebody please enlighten me on some things about RAM? I'm building for a 9800x3d rig, had my sights set on corsair dominator titanium ram, white coloration (most of the build is white). Haven't settled on a mobo yet, but pretty much the only ones that officially support dominator titanium ram are Aorus boards, at least as far as their official QVL lists indicate. Doing some research on these sticks, it turns out that corsair didn't make these with EXPO (AMD) configuration, just XMP (Intel). I've never did this much of a deep dive into RAM specs before so I'm kinda lost as to what this means, I've seen people with this ram in their AMD builds and they say it works fine, but I'm not sure what "fine" means, if it's running at significantly reduced speeds and they just aren't aware or what. Also, is 6000 speed still recommended? I'm trying to be mindful of all of the nuances for RAM this generation, like only using 2 sticks because 4 screws up the speeds, but I've also heard that 6000 is (or maybe was?) the recommended speed, despite the fact that they make sticks that go up to 8000 now and with every denomination in between. I see people talking about how they just picked up 6400 speed sticks to go with their 9800x3d, is 6000 no longer the recommended? are these people just unaware? does it not matter?

>>103269346There was one guy who got unlucky with some USB dropout issue, but it doesn't seem to be a widespread issue with the X870 Tomahawk. Most people here will recommend you to get an ASRock board. If the memory combo deal is good and the seller offers a robust return policy (accepts opened & tested boards), it's up to you to weigh the cost benefits over potential problems.Whichever board you buy, be careful with the socket pins, and don't leave a mess with the paste that could get your return denied. This isn't just an MSI/Newegg advice.

Black friday deals seem to suck, but I need a new computer. tl;dr is that I'm currently stuck using a shitty lenovo laptop and want some sort of light gaming desktop againIm leaning towards an ITX build with a ryzen 8700G APU, since it can run basically anything at 1080. Everything i've seen online has said to get a cheap CPU and gpu for slightly better performance (like an i3 and 1080 for $300) but i'd rather just be able to hold off on adding a gpu later if there's ever a deal. The 8700g seems to only be about 10% weaker than the 7700x in most benchmarks, and wouldn't be a cpu bottleneck when I do get a GPU down the line. So is using an APU for a year or two really as dumb as much of the internet says?plan tl;dr>build with 8700g for 1080p gaming>upgrade with a dGPU when I can>build will have more longevity than going last gen

Ryzen 5 3600xRTX 3060 TiI'm thinking about buying a 144+hz monitor, because I've been stuck at 60hz forever. Should I even bother buying a 1440p monitor, or do i stick with 1080p? I mostly play competitive multiplayer games so I guess I should be fine running them on 1440p. On the other hand, I'm afraid that if I ever want to play some new AAA games, I'll end up upgrading my CPU and GPU, because I won't be able to run them at the screen's resolution. What do I do?

Finally did a major upgrade to my PC. Since I was upgrading to a new PC socket, had to change pretty much everything.Anyway, I got a RAM that says 6000, since that's what you guys recommended my CPU. But it runs at 4800 by default. And it's been years (or decades more like) since I dabbled in overclocking. So I have a question (stupid probably), but how do I make full use of this 6000 RAM? There's an OC page in BIOS. Can I just pick the 6000 preset for RAM OC in there and it'll work? Or do I have to do something else? Thanks.

>>103269872your CPU will probably hold you back from hitting 144fps in most new games, regardless if you go 1080p or 1440p. anything (poorly) made in UE is probably going to have shit frametimes, which drives me nuts personally at leastid say get the 1440p and enjoy your boomer shooter games in the meantime, and then look into upgrading CPU and GPU soon if you can at all afford it. i believe prices for most sought-after components will go up by 30% every half year at this rate
>>103268370Not a poorfag and I do have an OLED TV, strobing still mogs though.
>>103269872>>103269937to clarify by "shit frametimes" i mean the game renders 120 frames a second, but the first 119 of those come in the first 0.2 seconds and then your CPU stalls the remaining frame for the last 0.8 seconds. most noticeable when you play something like dark and darker and the game runs certain physics and AI shit at a fixed rate. or when you play fortnite and the game constantly loads in shit and stutters your shit.i think GPU is generally something you should cheap out the most on if you are into competitive gaming. you can usually dial down the settings enough to hit a consistent 120 fps or 144fps with good (!) frametimes. you probably won't need to upgrade your GPU for 144hz/1440p if you are willing to deal with rough visuals in a lot of games

Bros, got a big dilemma. My 2700X has never been stable with my X470 motherboard unless I run very specific settings (C-states off, CnQ off, LLC High and other small things). It didn't bother me once I narrowed down everything but now I want to upgrade (to a 5950X, I think) and I realize I'm not sure whether my CPU or my motherboard is the one with issues.I don't think it would be worth staying on AM4 if I had to buy a new board as well but I don't have another CPU to test with, do I just order a new CPU and pretend it's broken or something if it turns out the motherboard is at fault?
>>103269967what you're thinking of is "frame pacing". very not talked about enough..because AMD Ryzen sucks at frame pacing
>>103269652no just buy a 4060 and forget about upgrading.your idea is stupid because you clearly have money if you are buying a 8700g.you don't need a 8700g or 7700x.Buy a microcenter bundle if you live near a microcenter (if you want an overpowered CPU for your 4060).Or just pick a CPU that matches a 4060 (I heard you can get a cheap 5700x on AliExpress, you could even go full on retard with buying an aliexpress xeon bundle for like $70 + buy ram to fill all 4 channels, it's about as good as a 12100f / ryzen 5500 depending on what you need, just make sure the xeon CPU is supported by windows 11, and note you only get 1 nvme slot).
Hopefully you got it before the price went up

But both are not supported by windows 11), it's not even a CPU bottleneck.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kaDQekbM7012100f probably runs better because of the GPU bottleneck is smaller due to running on 720p or something.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNs1AaNDJ-E
>>103270079maybe but what im talking about has more to do with the way games are programmed. a typical UE game maxes out your GPU for 99% of time, but then blasts the fuck out of your CPU for the remaining 1%. the result is that if you look at your performance graphs, you'll be comparatively more often bottlenecked by your GPU, but the few frames when your CPU is bottlenecking will hurt your feel of the game harder. like, if you ever play a UE shooter and it feels like your aiming is just weirdly floaty or janky, it's usually because of inconsistent frame timesthis is all anecdotal though so i may be totally wrong
